5 Years Later
Your face showed up on screen, “Hey, guys! Today is June 25th and you know what that means?” The camera turned to face a little girl with your eyes and nose, but Poe’s skin color and black curly hair, “It’s Shara’s fifth birthday! Say hi, baby girl!”
Shara, dressed in a purple princess dress, smiled and waved, “Hi! I’m five now!”
“Yes, you are! Can you show us with your fingers how old you are?” Shara held up five fingers, “That’s perfect!”
In the back, Poe could be heard, “Princess?”
“Yeah?” You call out listening for Poe.
“Have you seen my-oh. Nevermind!”
You roll your eyes at the camera, “So forgetful that one. Anyway, it’s 10:25am and everyone will be here at 12. Shara woke Poe and I up at around 8 because she was so excited. Also,” You brought the camera down to show your protruding baby bump, “I’m at the end of my first trimester hitting my second! Shara’s so excited to meet her baby sister.”
Poe walked into the room, “I can’t believe I’ll have another girl who’s finger I’ll be wrapped around.” Poe kissed your cheek and waved at the camera, “Hey guys!” He walked away to the kitchen.
You gave a content sigh, “So that’s it right now. I’ll be vlogging more when everyone arrives.” You stopped the recording and set the camera down.
I opened up the door and gestured them inside. Not knowing what was coming next. My palms were sweaty and I could barely think straight. Trying to think of why they would be here. They went and sat over at the couch, giving each other a look. Craig, the tall one, ushered me to sit down on the couch across from them so they could begin with there questioning. I felt Eric’s eyes burning through me. I silently gulped to myself as I took a seat.
“Miss Greene, we were sent down here by our supervisor to follow up on the case that involved Mrs. Mayfair. Are you familiar with her? She lived down the street from you? In the big, blue house?” Craig said gently.
“Mrs. Mayfair was a wonderful lady. She had a heart of pure gold, I can tell you that. She would always come down to the library where I work at, and get tons of books. She loved to read. Her and her husband were like saints around the community. She was like the fairytale grandma everyone wanted. She even babysat for my little sister a few times.” I said softly.
Before Craig could say anything, Eric interjected.
“Do you know if Granny had any enemies?” he said rudely
His rude tone caught me off guard, which me even more nervous
“Umm… Not that I know of Agent. Everyone around here loved her. She wouldn’t hurt a soul. Wait a minute, I heard that she tripped going down the stairs and the blow from her head hitting the floor killed her. When it happened, she was alone.” I said
“That’s what the other investigators thought, until some new evidence showed up.” Eric said bluntly.
“Is there anything else about that night you can tell us about? Did you happen to talk to her that day at the library or outside?” said Craig nonchalantly, as well as giving Eric a dirty look.
I didn’t know why, but for some odd reason I felt close to these guys. Even though the short one was kind of douchy. It was weird. Like I was supposed to know them. Their names sounded familiar too. Like you’ve heard of those names before, but you couldn’t place where.
“She was actually supposed to babysit my little sister that night, but she canceled saying that she didn’t feel good.” I said.
“At what time did she cancel on you?” Craig said curiously
“I believe it was around 7 o’clock.”
“Ok, thank you for your time Miss Greene. My partner and I have some business to discuss. Also, do you know of any good motels around in the area?” said Eric
“Umm yeah. If you get a motel room around here you will want to go to the Baymont. I heard the have really nice rooms down there for a good price.” I said.
Eric went outside to get the car and Craig gave me his card.
“If you see anything suspicious around the area, or anywhere at all, just let us know.” Craig said caringly, giving you a comforting smile.
His hands felt warm when they touched yours as he handed you the carded. I also got that weird close feeling that I was getting earlier. I looked at his face and by his expression, I could tell that he felt it too. His eyes were studying my face until he heard his partner honk his horn. We broke out of the trance and he bid me a good day. I watched them drive off in the sleek, black Chevy impala.
“Cool car.” I thought to myself as I shut the door.
I still couldn’t shake the feeling like I was supposed to know them…
As I opened the door to the impala, I couldn’t help but think about Y/n. Something was different about her. Different from all the other people we ever met during a case. Everything went normal, but I couldn’t help but get this strange feeling. She was beautiful, but I wasn’t attracted to her. Maybe it was just that scared and she was home alone. I don’t know. It just felt like some sort of a connection.
I glanced over at Dean, to see if he was getting the same vibe I was. As my eyes met him, he was opening up a bag of beef jerky and shoving his hand in. Not a care in the world look on his face. I rolled my eyes and started the conversation.
“So do you think we have case here?”
“Well, since Mrs. Mayfield’s husband is nowhere to be found, and after the intel we collected around town about the couple, we might have a case.” Dean said, after he took a big swig of his beer.
“Dude, it’s not even noon yet. Really?” I said
“What? Well if somebody didn’t fill up the cooler with his poop juice protein shakes, and pack some waters, we wouldn’t be having this discussion, Sammy!” said Dean.
I rolled my eyes again, and decided to question him if he felt the same way I did after leaving Y/n’s house.
“Hey Dean, do you, do you like feel weird after visiting the last girl’s house?” I asked curiously.
“Yeah, I hate kids” Dean said
“No, I mean weird.” I said
“What do you mean, weird?” giving me a quizzical look.
“I don’t know how to describe it, but like maybe we are supposed to know her. This case just feels like a different one.” I said, speaking out my thoughts
“Hmm… Huh. Not as weird as the suicidal teddy bear, Sammy. Not as weird as that one.”
I shook my head, remembering the case. Trying to get that image out of my head.
‘She was hot though for her age” Dean smiled smugly.
“Dude she’s like nineteen, and you’re 30 something.” I spat disgusted
“A man can dream, Sammy!” Dean said playfully
“You’re unbelievable” I say, as I look out the window
“I’m just messing with you, Sam. Come on, so you feel a connection? I kinda did too.” Dean says seriously.
“Really?” I ask him
“Yeah, just something about her face looked so familiar like I’ve seen her somewhere before. I couldn’t place my finger on it though.” said Dean
“Do you think we should look into her more? I could ask Cas to co-”
“Woah, woah, woah. Look we’ve seen thousands of faces, in thousands of different places. We’ve might of just saw some some similar features as Y/n. I don’t want to scare the poor girl. Especially when Cas uses his angel mojo. You’re reading too much into this, Sammy. This was just supposed to be a simple case.” Dean let out a huff.
“Since when do ever have simple cases Dean? Oh right, never. This happens to us every time. Thinking that something is nothing, when it really is. There is something about that girl and I am going to figure out what it is. Whether you help, or not.”
Dean tilted his head to side and pondered this. Then he spoke.
“Fine, we will look into this. We will get Cas to help us, but I don’t want to look stupid if it turns out to be nothing.” Dean agreed
We pulled up to the motel, and parked right in front of it
“Don’t worry, Big Brother, you always do.” I smiled and got out of the car.
The window was down, so I heard Dean when he said “Shut up!”
As we went inside the motel, my thoughts were still of Y/n. Hoping, that she stays safe and whatever got Mrs. Mayfield stays away from her.
