Berena Appreciation Week - Day Four:  Alternate Universe

Police Investigators AU
DCI Campbell moves into town after a particularly arduous divorce, hoping to leave behind one jerk of a husband and the jeering of her colleagues in her previous precinct- seems like everyone had known about her husband’s philandering except for her. On her first day she gets assigned with the infamous Bernie “Big Macho Detective Inspector” Wolfe. Expecting a large, gruff man to follow up on that nickname, she’s surprised when she meets a lithe blonde in a fitted pantsuit. However, she is no less infuriating for it, not giving Serena even an inch to operate in and getting under her skin, always and instantly. Serena now understands why DI Wolfe’s reputations exceeded her. But after a particularly grueling night of obs where Serena feels like no amount of Shiraz could ever exorcise the cold from her bones, she starts to understand her colleague. She finds out Berenice Wolfe is also an honorary member of the ‘Club of Embittered Ex-wives’; her husband being responsible for her demotion to being a DI in West-Yorkshire after not being able to accept the fact that his wife of 20 years had turned out to be a lesbian. He was still warm and cosy in what once was their London townhouse, while she was cryofreezing her bones in Yorkshire. They become close friends after; Serena finally finding a colleague whose advice is worth listening to and not meant to knock her down a peg or two, Bernie finally finding a colleague whose respect is worth earning and who doesn’t care about whatever rumours might be floating about. Solving cases with new found efficiency they soon become a force to be reckoned with. When they are asked for help on the case of Tommy Lee Royce- wanted for kidnapping and multiple incidents of voluntary manslaughter, amongst which a police officer- they meet up with Bernie’s old friend Catherine. When Catherine gets heavily injured after an incident with Royce, Bernie cannot help but blame herself as they sit besides her bed. She should have known Catherine wouldn’t wait for reinforcements and she should have just gone there, been there for her friends. Serena tries to console her and somewhere between well meant words and soft caresses their lips touch. Only breaking apart when Catherine’s sister Clare enters the room.
“Seems like I owe Catherine 10 quid.”

So I tweeted the information about the police investigation into the murder to the actors who were in the scene they were filming because I figured that they were more likely to get information out to their fans who might have been there.

Colin being a really solid guy retweeted it.  And boy are my notifications a mess.  I thought talking to Adam was crazy… good cause though.

Except for the whole murder thing, Courtney James seemed like a lovely young woman. She was bright, articulate, a dedicated college student and well liked waitress at a popular restaurant.

I met her when she was sitting in an interrogation room at the precinct. She was a bit on the larger side, dressed conservatively in pastel colors and minimal makeup, and when I came in, she introduced herself with a polite smile, as if we were meeting for a job interview as opposed to a police investigation. She had declined to have an attorney present, so I got right to business.

Missing at Sea - The Disappearance of Rebecca Coriam

24-year-old Rebecca Coriam’s dream finally came true in 2010 when she beat hundreds of applicants and got the job on the Disney cruise ship, “Disney Wonder.” It was a much sought after job and Rebecca was perfect for the role - she was outgoing, bubbly, and could connect with children. After being hired, Rebecca travelled to Florida to train for the job at Disney World. Rebecca spent four months at sea in the Bahamas before going home for two months. Afterwards, she returned to America to work on the Disney Wonder which was sailing from Los Angeles to Mexico. The 1,000 foot ship could accommodate 2,400 passengers in 875 staterooms plus 1,000 crew members.

On the 22nd of March, 2011, Rebecca’s parents’ received an alarming phone call from Rebecca’s colleague. Rebecca hadn’t turned up for her shift that morning. When a colleague went to her bedroom, she wasn’t there nor did she respond to her name being called from the public address system. A crew member decided to trawl the cctv footage from the past 24 hours. At 5:45am, Rebecca was spotted speaking on the phone in the crew area. She appears to be distraught. A young man approaches her and asks if she is okay to which she replies: “Yeah, fine,” before walking away. This is the last ever sighting of Rebecca. Later, people would suspect that maybe Rebecca had been a victim of sexual assault. In the video she is clearly distraught and is wearing men’s clothing. She was in the vicinity of the medical centre which was situated on the same deck.

After it became evident that Rebecca was certainly missing, the U.S. coastguard was notified as well as the FBI. As the search on the ocean was underway, Rebecca’s parents’ were en route to the Disney Wonder. The Bahamian police would announce to Rebecca’s parents’ that they believed she had been washed overboard by a large wave and that foul play wasn’t suspected. After just a day of investigation, police were satisfied with this explanation. They questioned some crew members but never bothered to question any passengers. Police even gave her parents’ a flip flop that they claimed was Rebecca’s. It had been found at the edge of Deck 5, where she was supposedly washed overboard. However, the flip flop had someone else’s signature and cabin number. It didn’t belong to Rebecca at all.

After Rebecca’s parents’ went back to Britain, they discovered that somebody had been using Rebecca’s bank card. Another glimmer of hope that she was still alive came in September, when somebody changed her password on Facebook. They decided to investigate further and uncovered a crew member on the ship had said “Disney knows exactly what happened. That phone called she had? It was taped. Everything here is taped.” Many, including Rebecca’s family, believe that Disney knew exactly what happened to Rebecca but are covering up to save face and to protect their brand. To this day, Rebecca is still listed as being missing at sea.

Taurus: Mushishi - 46 Episodes (2 seasons)

“Mushi”: the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply “being.” They are beyond the shackles of the words “good” and “evil.” Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.

This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.

So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a “Mushishi,” Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushishi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world’s hierarchy of life.

Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.

It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself.

Since we have our leaked/not really leaked Steven Bomb from the CN app, there’s obviously a lot to analyze. For this post I’m going to focus on the gem everyone’s been screaming about:

Aquamarine. And to be fair, the little blue gnat is pretty interesting.

We all knew her introduction as an innocent wasn’t going to last. Between the leaks and CN releasing all of the eps at once on the app, the effects this might have had was kind of lost. But it is worth noting that when things are going her way or someone has something she needs and she thinks she’s going to get it without a fight, she does revert back to her child like demeanor. Meaning that although she is far from innocent, her introduction truly was not an act on her part. That said, just like Navy, she is entirely aware of the effect her demeanor has on other people. So she uses it.

Oh no! You found us.

Unlike Navy, Aquamarine’s behavior surpasses conniving and borders on straight up evil. As far as I can remember, she’s been the only villain in the series to date that has to threatened to kill humans in any context- let alone use them as hostages.

Can you remind me… I mean my memory is perfect. But, our orders were to bring back six humans. I’m just not sure. Did they specify… alive? You know, I don’t think they did.

The people she’s threatening have done nothing to her. They place her in no actual danger. She straight up does not care one way or the other about the crystal gems. (actually no one from homeworld seems to care about the crystal gems aside from Rose Quartz, but that’s for another post) What she does care about is the fact that they’re standing in the way of an easy completion to her mission.

Which begs the question: if an agate terrifies, what the heck is an aquamarine supposed to do?

Her design and demeanor scream perfectly stuck up prefect on a power bender, but what is her role in gem society? Is she an investigator/ police officer or is she some kind of intergalactic dog catcher? Her powers are good for offence and defense. But as death threat happy as she is, her magic wand’s ability to capture and throw at great distances does not actually harm those she uses it against. It just serves its purpose: it either captures something she’s after, or gets rid of something that stands in her way.

That said, she has no problem ordering Topaz to inflict deadly force.

And then there’s this:

I know what you’re thinking Topaz. It seems a little suspicious that “my dad” is also a Steven. But you know… if it means getting out of here, I’ll believe it.

So here’s Aquamarine. She’s use to being both the most intelligent AND the most powerful person in any given situation. And what has it done? It’s made her lazy.

She knows as well as everyone there that Steven is definitely not “my dad”. And to be frank… she gives no fucks whatsoever. She thinks this is below her, and is willing to do as little work as possible to fulfill the minimum requirement of a task she was given.

Not to mention that once again, she’s placed the dirty work of this on Topaz. If she gets called out for this, she’s set it up so that Topaz will take the fall.

I would say that she’s intelligent enough to be aware of all these things, but she also doesn’t care about any of it.

And that will be her undoing.

coronalthoughtejection  asked:

Ok, let us assume that literal cultists have summoned a literal monstrosity, and literal monstrosity has literally torn them to literal pieces, and then vacates the premises. Morning shift walks in, sees the carnage, calls the police. How soon would the forensics team get there after the responding officers? How would they respond to 4-5 bodies torn to pieces? Where would they start, what would they do?

Alright @ coronalthoughtejection . First off- wow that is a lot to take in just as a mental image. Unfortunately my response will also be based on some assumptions and varies greatly depending on where exactly in the world your cultists are summoning monsters.

In a backwoods, small town kind of setting, a forensics team may take up to 12 hours to arrive. Even considering the fact that there would be some hussle due to the eviscerated bodies, you could still be looking at 6 or more hours. The scene would not be empty during this wait period though- the responding departments officers would begin to document and may even begin evidence collection without the Forensic Team. Many small police departments, like what would be responding if this happened in an out of the way place, have officers trained to collect evidence properly. I have no doubt in my mind that the big city forensic team would be called in to assist for a 5 body piece together. In a large, metropolitan city, response time would likely be much faster. Especially if its 5 eviscerated corpses. More than likely within the hour if possible. In both cases, the first thing that is done is that the scene would be secured. Before I forget, no one can do anything to the scene until it has been released by the medical examiner (in Canada anyways. Not sure about other countries).

Once the big boys in the forensic unit arrive, the lead investigator/ officer in charge would decide the best way to fully document and examine the scene. Photographs and written notes are always always ALWAYS taken first, before anything within the confines of the scene are touched. It is generally easier to do this in indoor scenes than outdoor scenes. My bias for summoning monsters makes me think decrepit basement, but its up to you as a writer/ thinker of these kinds of scenarios where exactly the scene takes place. Keep in mind for outdoor scenes that weather is a bitch and will ruin every piece of evidence it can be it with rain, wind or snow.

After the documentation of the scene is completed, evidence would be collected from most important to least important. This is a sort of judgement call on the investigators part, but usually goes from DNA (which is easily degraded or contaminated) to things like footwear impressions and fingerprints (which will usually remain unless purposefully disturbed by the rain).

After that the peeps back in the laboratory will try and get everyone’s bits back together as best they can to identify how many victims there are. Investigators will try and figure out how these people relate to one another, and how they came to be ripped to shreds.

The rest is up for you to decide. Does the monster rip any more people apart? Can the police identify this monster? Can they be swayed to believe in the existence of a supernatural creature, or is it up to the religious studies major to put the pieces together for the police (pun so intended). A lot of case work is following leads, and so it is up to you to figure out what the police will find, what that will tell them, and how quickly they can put the resources together to stop a literal monstrosity.

Happy Creating!

Freddie Gray died 2 years ago today — and Baltimore is still seeking police reform

  • It’s been two years since Freddie Gray died from injuries he sustained while in custody of the Baltimore Police Department.
  • But in the Charm City, “still ain’t shit change,” Black Lives Matter movement activists tweeted Wednesday.
  • Even if little appears to have changed on the police force or in the ways officers treat city residents, there has been some movement.
  • In April 2015, the state’s attorney’s office charged six officers in connection to the neck and back injuries Gray sustained, which led to his death, during a rough ride in a police van on April 12, 2015, after days of protests and civil unrest in the majority-black city.
  • Although those officers were acquitted in trials or had charges dropped against them, the U.S. Department of Justice investigated police abuse and sued the city into a police reform agreement known as a consent decree. And now, it’s up to city leaders to follow through on those reforms, civil rights leaders said.
  • “To this day, no officers have been held responsible in a court of law for the conduct that led to Mr. Gray’s death, and it’s likely none ever will,” Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said in a statement released Wednesday.
  •  "The only justice we can hope for now is the meaningful policing reform that the residents of Baltimore so deeply deserve.“ Read more (4/19/17)

Man leaves Jesus painting outside mosque in possible hate crime — unaware Muslims love Jesus, too

  • The Nassau County Police Department is investigating a possible hate crime where an unidentified person left a large painting of Jesus hanging on a cross outside the Hillside Islamic Center in Long Island, New York.
  • An employee at the Hillside Islamic Center found the painting hanging from the mosque’s fence Friday, an NCPD spokesman said in an email.
  • Abdul Aziz Bhuyian, the mosque’s president, told Island Now that surveillance footage shows a man riding a bicycle to the center and pulling a shopping cart with the painting just after midnight on Friday.
  • Bhuyian said he is sure the man “wanted to provoke” members of the mosque. “Had he had good intentions, he would have come to us,” Bhuyian said, according to Island Now. “We’re always here.” Read more (7/11/17)

anonymous asked:

Do you know where that JD AH comment you just reblogged is from?

it’s from an article from the black mass premiere in toronto in 2015 when she was being her abusive and manipulative self:

Here’s the article

At the Sept. 14 premiere of Johnny Depp‘s new film Black Mass at the Toronto International Film Festival, photographers captured the passion on the red carpet between the star and his wife, Amber Heard, who kissed and cuddled for the cameras.

But away from the shutterbugs, a source says, the newlyweds got hot and bothered in a different way. Amber, 29, hovered near her hubby as he schmoozed, and when she saw him chatting with a young woman, the source says, “she stormed over and tried to butt in.”

When Johnny, 52, continued the conversation, she “looked livid” and quickly pulled him aside. The source says, “She talked to him like a child. Johnny smiled awkwardly and seemed to calm her down, because the next minute they were holding hands again and she was all smiles.”

According to the insider, this volatility is nothing new for the couple, who wed in February and bicker about everything from his female fans to Johnny’s recent weight gain. She’s bothered so much that Amber has begun dictating his diet. “She says he looks like a mess now,” says the source.

“Amber is very loving toward Johnny — but if things aren’t the way she wants, all hell breaks loose,” the insider says.

Friends who’ve witnessed the actor bend to Amber’s controlling ways are wondering what happened to his rebellious spirit. “He’s blinded by love,” the source says. “He’ll do anything she wants — and she knows it.”

there are more stories like this example: at the lone ranger premiere in disneyland she was super rude to everyone basically, she pulled him away from fans at the airport in tokyo in 2015, when they were on their honeymoon, at the Hollywood Film awards in 2015, she hits him multiple times during that stupid Overhaulin’ episode he did specially for her

combine this with Doug Stanhope’s statement:

We’d watched it build like this since before they were married. We’d watched her manipulate and f— with him for years. We didn’t say a word. To each other, yes, but never to him. When your friend is in an awful, abusive relationship — man or woman — …

and the statements from his bodyguards and the police:

normally she was the one who had to be physically pulled off of Johnny. Reportedly she would throw bottles, scream and “charge” at him. The guards will testify during the restraining order hearing in June.

On May 21, 2016, officers responded to a domestic incident radio call…” LAPD Sgt. Marlon Marrache says. “The person reporting the crime [Heard] did not insist on a report and no report was warranted. There was no evidence of any crime. A crime did not occur so the officers left the scene and left a business card.”Marrache adds that if there had been any signs of abuse, officers would have conducted an investigation, regardless of what Heard said had happened.

We find that Amber Heard is a multiple abuser and deserves nothing!

i’m disgusted and sorry because this post was not respectful for his privacy, but i can’t stand an abuser being glorified simply because she is a woman

On the 27th of April, 2013, California police received a phone call from a distraught boy. It was 12-year-old Isiah Fowler. He told the stunned officers that he had been at home with his 8-year-old sister, Leila Fowler, when an intruder with long grey hair was spotted in the house. According to Isiah, he had been in the bathroom when he heard an unknown voice say “Hey, I know you’re in there..” before he heard his little sister screaming. Isiah said he then came out of the bathroom and saw a tall man with grey hair fleeing from the home. It was then that Isiah claimed he discovered Leila, on the floor and bleeding. She had been stabbed to death. She had been inflicted with over 20 separate stab wounds; it was overkill.

The Fowler family rallied together, donning t-shirts with photographs of Leila’s smiling face plastered on the front. They spoke to the media and urged anybody with any information to come forward. Isiah was often at the forefront of these tearful gatherings. He was a loving brother to Leila… or was he? Within days, investigators noticed discrepancies with what he had claimed took place and what the evidence was showing. For one, it was evident that Leila had been stabbed to death whilst in her bunk bed but had somehow ended up across the floor - there were no bloody footprints meaning she did not walk there herself. Furthermore, a steak knife was discovered placed back in the kitchen drawer. This knife blade had been bent and contained traces of human blood. Another inconsistency was the length of time from the so-called attack to when Isiah called the police. When investigators arrived, Leila’s body was cold to the touch, indicating Isiah took several hours to call the police. When he called 911, he didn’t even mention that Leila had been stabbed until a minute and a half into the conversation.

Isiah, who staunchly denied he was guilty, was put on trial for the murder of his sister. He was found guilty and shall remain in custody at the O.H. Close Youth Correctional Facility until he is 23-years-old. A motive for the senseless murder was never offered.

Kshama Sawant on why Seattle needs an independent investigation into the Charleena Lyles shooting

  • There’s never been a better time to familiarize yourself with Seattle City Councilwoman Kshama Sawant, a socialist pushing some of the most progressive policies championed by the American left.
  • In June 2014, thanks in large part to Sawant’s organizing, Seattle made history by becoming the first U.S. to begin the process of raising its minimum wage to $15 an hour.
  • On June 20, the Seattle City Council voted unanimously to pass Sawant’s bill requiring landlords to provide tenants with voter registration forms upon move-in, a move Sawant said would fight voter disenfranchisement.
  • Later that same week, in the wake of public outcry over two Seattle police officers fatally shooting Charleena Lyles, a pregnant black mother of four, Sawant drafted a petition calling on the city council to appoint an independent community-led committee to investigate possible police wrongdoing.
