pokey poke

Poke bird knows my given name and pronounces it perfectly (unlike most humans), but she VERY rarely uses it.  Today has been an unusually rough day, and we were just sitting in silence, but then:

Pokey: Shobana.

Me: (turns to look at her) What, Poke?

Pokey: ……………….. :tongue click:

Me: That’s nice, Poke.  (goes back to my work)

Pokey: Shobana.

Me: (turns to look at her) What, Poke?

Pokey: ……………………………………………………………. Are you okay?

Me: ;_;

The funny thing is, her asking actually did make things better. :)

ever notice how there’s three ways to say pokemon? most people I’ve met pronounce it ‘pok-a-mon’, that’s just how we’ve always said it. But there’s also the people who take it more seriously and pronounce it ‘poke-eh-mon’, which is what ‘pokémon’ is intended to sound like.

and then there’s those who know about pokemon but don’t really care- newscasters, some of our parents, etc.. who say “pokey-mon/poke-ee-mon”

I find that pretty interesting.
