poisonous-tree

Someone once told me that human beings have three dimensions: how you see yourself, how others see you, and how you want others to see you. The closer the distance between the three dimensions, the more at peace you are and the more stable you become.

I was angry with my friend;
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I waterd it in fears,
Night & morning with my tears:
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night.
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine.

And into my garden stole,
When the night had veild the pole;
In the morning glad I see;
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

camp swap thing

An idea I had about how Jason would have handled Thalia dying and her tree being poisoned if he’d been Greek. Enjoy!

Jason tucks his knees to his chest, fingers picking at the scab from where he cut his leg racing Annabeth. He scoots backwards, shifting his weight until the bark digs into his back. The press of the roots on either side of him is a gentle weight that let’s him breath. Camp is gone, somewhere on the other side of the hill that he can’t see or hear. Here it’s only him, his thoughts, and his sister.

“Luke said I did a good job today.” Jason’s muttered words break the silence of the hill. “He said I could be the best swordsman in camp soon. I just need to get a little bigger.” He glances at his arms, studying the faint white scars that stand out against the tanned skin. “I think you’d be proud of me. I don’t let Annabeth get into fights but I don’t let anyone be mean to her either.”

He waits, his words drifting off into the rustle of the wind through the branches. He holds his breath, listening for a creak or a groan or anything. He waits until his lungs burn as much as his eyes do before sucking in a shaky breath.

Jason stares at the dirt beneath his shoes, at the scattered needles and pinecones, at the empty hill stretched out before him.

“I miss you Thalia. I- I hate being in that cabin. I hate being alone. Please- I- I don’t want to go back there.” He blinks, pushing back on the pain that ripples up through his chest, bubbling into something that settles over his eyes and in his lungs.

The first soft, broken sob breaks from him and he clamps down on it. Luke’s voice echoes in his head, the voice that says that Thalia is gone, the voice that tells him it’s the god’s fault.

Dryad au

Dryad’s are tree nympths, they are basically bound to the tree and I just- So much can be done with this hellllpppp.

- Tree nympths having specific characteristics of the tree they guard/posess. For example they may have ivy growing out of them and the leaves of the tree in their hair.

-Tree nympths who gaurd the wildlife in the trees, for example squirrels in oak trees.

-Dryad’s who posess bonsai trees being tiny.

-Tree nympths who posess fir trees being hardy and able to resist very low temperatures.

-Nympths that posess deciduous trees (trees that lose their leaves during the winter and autumn) looking like normal people but looking very tired and less full of life.

-Parkour masters.

-Campaigning to protect trees in the city, or atleast move them from the city to somewhere new.

-Tree nympths who use photosynthesis? Sunbathing tree nympths sleeping just next to their tree.

- Tree nympths decorated with Amber.

-Tree nympths who are able to posess a new tree so long as it is the offspring of the previous which is still alive.

-A monkey puzzle tree nympth visiting a jewellers shop who takes jet from a nearby mine, and finding jet from the leftovers of one of their old trees. (Jet is fossilised monkey puzzle).

-Agressive tree nympths who come from hawthorn or monkey puzzle.

-Nympths that live in your garden.

-That nympth witnessed your shameless house party.

-Modern nympths that decorate their tree on special occassions. Person A not liking the apple tree covered in decorative lights and demanding the dryad takes them down.

-Stop climbing mi tree.

-Naga that shares a tree and sleeps in the branches and helps protect the ree and in return can sunbathe on that one branch that sticks out.

-Bees honey being a part of the food source for the nympth.

-Throwing acorns at that centaur/person you don’t like.

-Nympth territory fights. “Scccuuusseee mmmeee III was going to plant mmyyy beech tree here!”

-Nympths with strong wills having pheonix trees (trees that will always regrow when you cut them down and poison them).

-A tree nympths mental state affecting their trees health.

-A tree getting an infection and a nympth bursting into the garden center like: I NEED YOUR FINEST PESTICIDE.

-I’m pretty sure it’s apple trees that do this but apple tree nympth finding out their tree will be the only one not being cut down and quickly collecting samples of other trees and adding them to the apple tree (as apple trees can merge and support other trees theresoneinNewyorkwhichisfabulous) so their nympth friends can stay alive.

- Nympths that merge like above getting all kinds of flower and leaves on them.

-Willow tree nympths having the flowing dangly branches for hair.

-Palm tree nympths having a personal umbrella-

fight-me-boi  asked:

Poisonous plants with pretty flowers? For my story I'm having a nerdish inventor type character flirting with an heir to a crime empire the inventor is kinda saying you're beautiful but deadly

Hi, Fight-me-boi. What is probably the most poisonous tree in the world is the manchineel tree. But I’m not going to recommend your character use it. For a few reasons a)I can’t find pictures of its flowers to be able to say it’s beautiful and b) it’s so dangerous that standing under one in the rain can give you blisters and inhaling the smoke of one burning can make you go blind. If you search for images of them, there are signs posted on them to warn people to stay away because of how dangerous.

I started with that because you weren’t completely clear on how poisonous you wanted the plant to be. Going off of the “beautiful but deadly” I’m going to try to stick with plants that can kill humans.

My favorite flower is Lily-of-the-Valley. But even though it looks so dainty, the plant contains 38 different cardiac glycosides. All parts of the plant are toxic.

Hemlock is a classic poison, but there are actually two famously poisonous hemlock plants. Poison hemlock is poisonous if eaten and will numb the extremities with the numbness creeping in until the lungs are paralyzed. Water hemlock, which is considered the most poisonous plant in North America, causes violent, painful convulsions and cramps.

Aconite, aka wolfsbane, aka monkshood, aka devil’s helmet, is another traditional poison. It was used by shepherds to poison arrows shot at wolves that would prey on the flocks and the poison ultimately works by respiratory failure.

Larkspur is related to Arconite and is similarly dangerous. Brief contacts with stems and leaves can irritate the skin and ingestion will lead to respiratory paralysis, and thus death.

Oleander is quite pretty and very toxic. The entire plant, including nectar, is poisonous. It’s said that as little as 100g  is enough to kill a full-grown horse.

Yellow Jessamine has similar alkaloids to strychnine which makes it quite poisonous, even to honeybees gathering its nectar.

There are many many more poisonous plants that fit these criteria. Too many to show in one post.  Some of them are:

Foxglove
Golden Chain
Mother of Millions
Windflower
English Broom
White Snakeroot
Angel’s Trumpet
Autumn Crocus
Suicide Tree
Deadly Nightshade
Mountain Laurel
Calla Lily
Laburnum
Bloodroot
Adenium obesum

I hope this helps.

His eyes were molten, roiling contradictions; she didn’t understand how they could be cold and hot all at once, ugly and beautiful, inhuman indifference and burning devotion, euphoric destruction and violent tranquility.  “I want you, care for you, not for any resemblance or name you bear but because I know you, for all the dark, twisted imperfections that make you mine and not theirs, that make you perfect. I love you, Sansa Stark. Nothing you do or say can change that.”
