“I know what you are.”

“What?” Shiro asks, like he’s halfway off a cliff, full up with tilting. Waiting for the fall.

“Someone whole,” Keith tells him, hands spreading out on Shiro’s arms, his chest. “Someone good.”

EDIT (Jan. 2017): So when I drew this, I wasn’t aware of any hard proof that Lance/Keith/Hunk were under 18… but now that some more info suggesting as much has come out, I’ve chosen to stop shipping this pairing (that said, I DO NOT condone harassment/shaming of shei*h shippers). I’m only leaving it up because the drawing is in circulation already anyway. I’ve explained myself so please don’t send me any harassment over it.

What are your favourite Polish songs?

1. Pidżama Porno - Ezoteryczny Poznań
Pidżama Porno is my childhood - my mom used to get angry when I was listening to them (Śni mi się monstrualna pizda, żarłoczna jak kosiara - I dream about monstrous cunt, greedy like a mower). Złodzieje zapalniczek and Bułgarskie centrum chujozy are my favourite albums.

2. Budka Suflera - Jolka, Jolka
This is a song that everyone knows. Give me some vodka, friends and Jolka, Jolka - we’re gonna cry while singing this. I also love their another song called Jest taki samotny dom. Go check out videos from Woodstock 2014, it’s so emotional…

3. Czesław Niemen - Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod
He’s one of the most famous and important Polish singer-songwriters. My favourite song is Bema pamięci żałobny rapsod because: lyrics are from a Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s poem; Niemen didn’t spell “ł” but “л”, and he played the organ. Check out also: Wspomnienie, Dziwny jest ten świat, Sen o Warszawie.

4. Łona i Webber - Błąd
This is a great example of Polish rap/hip-hop which is INTELLIGENT (surprise!). You should not only listen to it, but also watch it. This song is about… reading books! My humanistic heart is so happy that this song and video exist - there is a line “[…] mam tu tę książkę, kolubrynę, autor raczej Nobla nie weźmie” - “[…] I’ve got a thick book here, I don’t think that the author will get the Nobel Prize” (in the video Łona reads a first volume of “Chłopi” by Władysław Reymont. This book is anything but small. The author actually did get the prize as a first Polish author). Oh, and don’t learn Polish from their songs - they make mistakes on purpose. Check out also: Gdzie tak pięknie?, To nic nie znaczy, Rozmowa z Bogiem.

5. Gooral - W moim ogródecku
The lyrics are in Podhale dialect (but I’m not sure) which is the best shit ever. They usually cover some traditional Gorals’ songs. My favourite versions of their songs are from Woodstock 2013 because they performed with Mazowsze - the most famous traditional Polish folk band. But check out their official video - it shows a water rescue of GOPR (Mountain Volunteer Search and Rescue). Other songs: Karczmareczka, Zbójnicki, Ohoho, Pod jaworem.

6. Romantycy lekkich obyczajów - Lodziarka
The song is about giving a blowjob at the bus terminal. The lyrics are glorious - it’s a mix of pathetic and low language (”Tu poczujesz piękną woń obeszczanych wokół drzew” - “You will smell a beautiful scent of pissed on trees”).

OH MY GOD I CAN’T INSERT ANY VIDEO ANYMORE - CHECK LODZIARKA HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0GRER9YSxs

7. Łąki Łan - Łan Pała
A very specific group - not sure what kind of music is that. But I can assure you that their concerts are the best in the whole world. They dress up as insects and forest animals, their lider drinks water (or sth else maybe) from a watering can during the concert. The lyrics have little meaning, don’t bother to understand them.

8. Domowe Melodie - Zbyszek
They used to make their music at home (Domowe melodie - Domestic Melodies). The vocalist sings about different things - a murder (Zbyszek), abortion (Grażka), techno (Techno), horrible boyfriends (Jacósiu) etc.

9. Lao Che
I can’t choose one song - check out the whole two albums: Gospel and Dzieciom.

GOSPELhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPKGHa5n6VA&t=150s
DZIECIOMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lCTFejDQFY&list=PLLlZimyvW9V40MtNZLNU6mniI8duZLECg

10. Kult - Baranek
The chorus are from second part of Adam Mickiewicz’s “Dziady”. The whole song is about cheating and a fool boyfriend who still thinks she’s all pure and loyal.

Przychodzę do Was z takim tematem chyba na czasie.
1) Przestać spędzać czas z ludźmi niewłaściwymi, ludźmi którzy mnie niszczą, ludźmi którzy nie wnoszą niczego pozytywnego w moje życia a nawet emanują złą energią.
6) Przestać natarczywie wracać wspomnieniami do złej przeszłości.
Zaczynać i kończyć dzień uśmiechem.

Superman DID save people in Man of Steel

To all the Man of Steel haters who say that Superman didn’t save anyone in the movie, lets look at all the instances in which he did.

1. Superman saves the oil rig and coast guard crew

2. Young Clark saves the bus full of kids

3. Clark saves the girl at the bar from being harassed by that douchebag

4. Clark saving Lois from the armed robot in the scout ship

5. Clark saving Lois from falling in the escape pod

6. Superman saving the soldier from falling from the helicopter

7. Superman saving Colonel Hardy from Faora

8. Superman destroying the world engine and SAVING THE HUMAN RACE

9. Superman saving Lois/Dr. Hamilton and the rest of the flight crew from Zod

10. Superman catching Lois as she fell from the plane

11. Superman saving the family from Zod’s heat vision

So there you go. Now you can’t sit there and say that Superman didn’t save anyone. Because that’s a load of bullshit and you have to be blind not to see it

Swedish Cardamom & Cinnamon Buns

These pillowy, soft, cardamom and cinnamon laced buns are possibly my favourite thing to bake, and eat - and bake for other people to eat, come to think of it.  I could rhapsodise about how wonderful they taste, and how good they make your kitchen smell while they bake, but I think they speak for themselves - try them once and you’ll see. This week they were a bit of a celebratory bake too, as I wanted to create a post to say thank you to Tumblr for featuring my blog in the ‘Trending Blogs’ section of the site over the past few days - I’m really honoured to be featured, and figured nothing says thank you like a nice bit of baking.

I’ve used lots of different recipes for these buns over the years, but this latest version yields, in my opinion, the fluffiest buns for minimum effort. Double up the quantities if you’ve got freezer space, because they defrost beautifully for the sort of rainy day when you need a bun, and don’t have the ingredients or inclination to make them.

In a large mixing bowl, weigh out 500g flour, ¼ teaspoon salt, 75g sugar, and 3 and a half teaspoons of dried fast action yeast. Remove the seeds from 6 cardamom pods, and grind them finely in a spice grinder or pestle and mortar. Add the ground spice to 240ml milk and 75g butter in a small saucepan, and heat through until the butter has melted. Let the milk and butter mixture cool down to tepid, then whisk in one egg. Add the egg, milk and butter mixture to the dry ingredients and mix together thoroughly to form a wet dough. Work it in the bowl with your hands until it comes together, then knead it briefly on a surface for 3-4 minutes, without adding any extra flour. (The dough will come together smoothly, and quite quickly - you don’t want to over-knead, as you’ll be rolling it out thinly later and if the dough’s too elastic, you’ll find this tricky. That’s also why, proportionately, there’s less yeast in this recipe than you might expect for the amount of flour.)

Pop the kneaded dough back into the bowl, cover it with clingfilm, and leave it in a warm place to rise for 1 ½ hours. Five minutes before the dough’s ready, preheat your oven to 220C, and make the filling by beating 75g softened butter with 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon and 30g dark brown sugar. Punch down the dough, roll it out into a thin rectangle measuring 50cm by 30cm, and spread the cinnamon butter mixture all over, leaving a small margin around the edges.

For the shaping part, I’ve made you a handy infographic which you can view here on my recipe page, which is much easier than looking at written instructions. Once you get to stage 6, fold the twisted ends in on themselves, almost but not quite in a knot shape as in the photographs above, and pop them onto a baking sheet, well spaced out. Leave them to prove for 35-40 minutes, before baking them on the middle shelf of your oven for 12-14 minutes. Transfer onto a wire rack to cool a bit, and eat warm. Not that you need me to tell you that.

Big Hero 6 Abigail Pod sequence.  I still look back fondly on the pod sitting in double “launch rings” from an earlier version of the movie.  This was going to be cool.  We went for design change that cancelled out this version.  Maybe this idea was ultimately too tech heavy, but I will always like it.

Q and A and You and Me

Is Momo strong enough to drag an unconscious Marigold to the bed by herself, or did Dale have to help?

She sleepwalked/moonwalked

How do you feel about Failure reuniting?

Cautiously excited

Can Hannelore be asexual, please? A lot of people read her as such, and think that she is, and it’d be pretty cool to have a canon ace character in something as well known as your comic. Maybe you’ve accidentally written an asexual character? I mean, you of course have control over your comics and everything, but… just putting that out there.

I’ve been getting an increasing number of questions like this lately, so here’s my best attempt at an answer.

While I think it’d be great to see more representation of asexual folks in comics, Hannelore isn’t asexual. She’s severely inhibited by her neuroses, but if they weren’t there, I’m pretty sure she’d want to Do It With Boys. And I’d hate to portray her as asexual instead of inhibited, because that would paint a very inaccurate picture of what asexuality is (as far as I understand it, anyway).

Have you ever considered the addition of an asexual character to the comic? I know a lot of writers will shy away from “adding X character” because it’s too easy to write a bad character around that one characteristic. You’ve done so well with diversity, historically, that I just wanted to know if it’s something you’d ever thought about or wanted to do, even if it’s not something you can immediately do now.

I don’t have any ace characters on the drawing board, but who knows. Maybe someday!

Why do webcomics folk so rarely leave the northeast (aside from huge events like SDCC, C2E2, and the like?

Because plane tickets are expensive.

I’m a long-time guitar dabbler and I’ve recently been trying to learn to play metal/metalcore, and the only electric guitar I’ve ever owned is a Squier Strat. I’ve heard for metal I should really have humbuckers, and I picked up a friend’s cheap (I think) Dean and the difference was striking. I want to get another guitar more suited to metal, but I don’t feel like I have the proper experience to judge them. Should I stick with the strat til I improve? Get a cheap metal axe? An expensive one?

If you want to learn metal, playing on a standard strat will be frustrating, which will make you enjoy playing less, which will make you play less. I say take the plunge and get yourself an affordable “metal” axe. ESP/LTD and Schecter are my go-to brands for good, cheap guitars, and make excellent higher-tier instruments if you want to drop some extra cash.

I’d also recommend getting yourself a Line 6 POD. When it comes to practicing and recording on a budget there is literally no single piece of gear you’re better off spending money on.

You hear about the new D'Addario NYXL strings that are coming out soon? I just got a beta set, and I’m liking them a lot so far, just gotta see what they sound like after a week or two.

I’ve always been an Ernie Ball man but I’m willing to try new things!

As someone who earns their income on the internet, what do you think of bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general? Is it something that you would consider ever accepting as payment for your merch or music? Or is that kind of thing left up to topatoco?

I don’t particularly like Bitcoin (unstable, prone to pyramid scheme-esque manipulation) but if something that took its good aspects came along I’d probably support it.

can you give any advice to a recent college dropout that wants to make a webcomic but doesn’t really have the means (nor necessarily the artistic talent) to do so?

Just start drawing! Paper and pens are cheap. You can get a Wacom for like 90 bucks. Scanners are cheap too. Make it fun!

Just got my download of Permanence, and it’s awesome. Are you still planning on re-recording Advances, and what is the timeframe for that?

If all goes according to plan, I’ll actually be laying down the basic tracks for Advances this week! It will be a more prolonged process because my engineer is having a baby literally any day now, but it will get done.
