Do you have any tips for someone looking for plus sized things on wholesale websites?I get really discouraged shopping on them bc everything seems to be one size ;___;

i definitely do! i’ve been doing it for a while (like 3+ years now?) and though there are times you get stinkers (like i risked buying something that was Exactly my measurements figuring it might stretch and just. nope! no stretch! lmao) i feel like the amt of times i’ve had successes definitely outweighs that and makes it worth it? it’s so expensive to get plus sized clothes in general at major retailers that are marketed towards us so on my fashion blog i try to teach people about as many cheaper plus sized options as possible!

  • probably the easiest tip i can think of–lots of wholesale places actually have plus sized sections now! newchic has a whole plus sized section that is actually plus sized and some pieces go up to like size 26 or so, for REAL cheap. you can check out my review on them here. the dress i bought and the top were both size 22 and cost $6.87 and $11.99 (respectively) at the time of my order. other places might not have a dedicated section, but you can type plus and look at things.
  • just because something is one size fits all, doesn’t mean it won’t fit you. some things–like tshirts, cardigans, sweaters, etc are actually truly oversized and can fit a large range of folks. the key to knowing if it can fit you or not is to look in the item’s description and read the measurements. make sure if it’s a jacket or a sweater to take specific note of both the bust and the shoulder measurements—there have been lots of times where things would fit one of my measurements in that regard but not the other, so i nixed buying it. lots of people forget to even look at shoulder measurements and get things that are too narrow to pull over their head. and if something doesn’t have measurements? don’t consider buying it. it’s just not worth the risk.
  • know. your. measurements. know them by heart, and update them before making a purchase. even if you think things haven’t changed since the last time you measured, measure so you can make sure. i don’t buy anything online without doing this and comparing mine with what’s on the listing.
  • buying something that isn’t fitted automatically improves your chances. batwing tops, “boyfriend” cardigans, swing dresses, etc are all a lot easier to find in your size, and if the size is slightly off then you’re probably still going to be able to fit in it.
  • take note of the materials, if possible. a chiffon dress that is exactly 1 inch smaller than your bust measurement isn’t going to work. you’re either going to tear it up trying to put it on or it won’t get on in the first place. however, a dress made out of jersey knit that’s 1in smaller than your bust and loose everywhere else might be fine. ribbed fabric (think like, the stretchy 90s sweatery looking stuff) stretches awesomely and is really trendy right now and really easy to see online since it’s such an obvious texture. lots of wholesale places have the materials listed in either the title or the description, but some places will say stuff is chiffon when it isn’t Real chiffon, so you need to still look at things with a critical eye.
  • accessories are literally always a safe bet. i’ve never ever ever bought an accessory from a wholesale place (jewelry/bags/shoes/hats/etc) and been disappointed. if with nothing else, you’ll always be safe there.
  • keep your expectations realistic and have a back up plan. it’s super easy to shop online if you’re thin, but shopping online as a plus sized person is a whole different ball game. if you’re not willing to incur the risk of the super cheap prices, then shopping wholesale just might not be for you. if things end up not working, returning things to wholesale sites is possible, but it sucks. no one wants to pay for return shipping (no one=you or the company–the price for shipping stuff overseas is ridiculous and it’s a big hassle on both ends) and so lots of places don’t even want to deal with it. the dress you just bought could be a total bust, but you gotta remind yourself it’s $6. have some sort of back up plan if things don’t work. since i run my fashion blog, i like to do follower giveaways sometimes for things i’ve bought that i don’t want to keep, or sometimes i will resell pieces on storenvy for around the same price or a bit cheaper to get my money back.

all that said, if there’s an item you’ve found that not sure about, folks can send me an ask w/ their measurements and the item on my fashion blog and i’ll look at it and give them advice on if i think it’s doable or not. i’ve built up a lot of experience doing this and gotten an eye for it and am willing to lend that eye to folks if they need a little extra help.

I can never find those cliche pastel striped panties in plus size, is there a website that sells plus size lingerie of that style?

if you’re talking about the types that you see a lot in anime, i’ve never seen them in plus sizes. the only places i’ve seen them for sale is places like aliexpress or cosmates, but they’re usually one size fits all and absolutely tiny. :/

sorry anon, i know i’d love a pair or two for myself bc they’re so cute!

You know what I hate? I hate when I’m online trying to buy a “fatkini” to rock for the summertime and the plus size website has skinny girls wearing these bathing suits. I don’t want to see a girl who is a size 2 rocking a “fatkini” I want to see a girl that’s a size 20 wearing one so I can get a better idea of what that “fatkini” is going to look like on my size 20 body. Is that really too much to ask for? Plus size women modeling bathings suits made for plus size women.
