I conducted an interview with her. I know you will grow to love her as much I have!!
Born and Reside: England, UK and I live between Devon and London.
Occupation: Freelance Print Designer and Artistic Director of Awesix Media
What would you describe your roll in the fashion industry?
I have always been a fashion enthusiast. A lover of garments, prints, accessories, bold imagery and starting my blog last year was the best thing I could of done. It is an outlet for all the things I adore. I am a plus size blogger and so very proud of my size.
When did you first start to take an interest in fashion?
Fashion started to make me “tick” when I moved to London. I started experimenting with vintage and bright colours and I became obsessed with prints. Studying at Chelsea College of Art and Design really helped me open up and start to dress the way I wanted to. Being in London opened my eyes to the world of fashion and since then, I’ve not looked back!
Who are some of your favorite fashion icons?
Alexander McQueen for his exceptional ranges, Mary Katrantzou, Jean Charles de Castelbajac and DVF for their fabulous prints.
Where do you find inspiration?
It’s a cliched answer, but I find inspiration from everywhere. Social Networking inspires me on a daily basis. There is such a strong unit of plus size ladies and gents online and seeing so many fabulously curvy people, dressing so well makes me so happy. I take inspiration from blogs, the catwalks, celebrities, vintage trends, magazines. You name it, I’m inspired by it.
When shopping, what are some key things you assess before you make a purchase?
I love online shopping. Sites like ASOS are dangerous! I spend so much money each month! I tend to be very decisive when it comes to clothes and accessories. I seem to get a gut feeling about them and know if they will suit me or not. I love affordable fashion with the odd extravagant purchase. When I find an item of clothing in a shop, charity shop or vintage shop I always ask myself “will I feel special when I wear this?” I have learnt to dress for myself and no one else. If i like it, I don’t care if you hate it!
How do you see the plus size industry booming in the fashion industry today?
The plus size market is growing and growing. I am overwhelmed by the growth and I love it. It is becoming more and more accepted and you can see the confidence in people growing across the globe! Sites like Instagram and Tumblr are at the forefront of this growth, connecting people and allowing us plus size people to feel accepted. More and more High Street shops are bringing out plus size ranges, designers are using plus size models in their catwalks and I couldn’t feel any more proud than I already do, to be part of it!
Where do you do you see plus size fashion in 30 years from now?
It’s going to be the norm. We wont feel like outsiders. I see more and more of the top designers producing plus size ranges and I see all our favourite High Street shops dressing us. I hope that the fashion available to us matches that of the “skinny person”. I would like to be able to wear what ever my size 8 friend can.
Where are some of favorite places to shop?
My number one place to shop has to be ASOS. I am slightly obsessed actually. Other great plus size ranges can be found at Evans, Simply Be, Very, Newlook, AX Paris and Forever21. I also shop in shops such as River Island, H&M, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins. You can also find me hunting for items in vintage and charity shops.
Lastly, Do you have any last words you want to leave for curvy girls everywhere? Be proud of your size. What ever it is. Dress for yourself and no one else and experiment with fashion….its so enjoyable.
