plus i was thinking of doing this as a series

Hi! I've just finished "Traveler" (the tag "Matt Bomer in everything" is working so well with me) and I was wondering which are your thoughts about the show? Personally I liked it. I think it was entertaining, Matt got a lot of time on screen and that is always good. What do you think about the show and Matt's character?

Wooo! I’m glad you’re digging the Matt Bomer in Everything series! [x] :)))

I liked Traveler. It was entertaining and had a lot of action and intrigue. Plus, I love Viola Davis, so it’s a bonus that she’s also in it. I wish she and Matt had more scenes together, but i get that the plot didn’t really allow that. lol. And I loved Matt’s character, Jay. The most level-headed, least douchey of all the guys. I dig him. :)

No Pain, No Gain”

Based on a Miraculous musing that I shared last year (that I can’t seem to find on my main blog) about Master Fu taking Nino under his wing to become the next holder of the Turtle Miraculous and awesomely enough, I’m not the only miraculer who shares this thought. The very first time I saw Master Fu, I immediately thought of Mr. Miyagi cause you have to admit, the resemblance is definitely there and since then I’ve been itching and hoping that the series would do a Karate Kid inspired episode where Nino comes to Master Fu for help.

Like maybe there’s this new schoolyard bully with the hots for Alya who starts targeting Nino specifically due to his relationship with and somewhat own romantic interest in our foxy gal; constantly challenging him to foolish fights for Alya’s love. Being the nonchalant character he is, Nino dismisses the bully’s initial advances at harrying as he wasn’t the type of guy to want to fight anyone.

And in similar Karate Kid type of fashion, Master Fu firstly meets Nino after he saves him from being pummelled by said bully and his comrades when they suddenly cornered him after school. Following that event, Nino is forced to fight back against said bully; seeking out Fu for help, practically begging him to teach him how to fight; a request which Fu surprisingly accepts.

This is how I imagined Fu’s first encounter with Nino to be like. And after helping him the first time, Master Fu starts to acknowledge potential in Nino—a potential which inspires him to start training him to be his successor. I imagine that at first Wayzz wouldn’t be too keen with the idea of Nino one day replacing Master Fu as his new master cause I figured that, unlike Plagg, Tikki and possibly the other kwamis, Wayzz is the one who’s been with his original holder the longest; considering that Fu is over 100 years old. While the others had had to change holders over the years, Wayzz has been with Fu since the day one and is very much loyal to him.

But ultimately I imagine once he sees Nino’s good qualities, Wayzz will begin to warm up to the young lad and actually starts to care for his well being; seeing a lot of the qualities in Nino that he did in Master Fu that made him love him as his master. Plus I think this kind of scenario could be great for Nino’s own character development as a teacher-mentor relationship with Master Fu can certainly help mould him into a stronger individual and hero. Not to mention that it’ll be really touching to see Master Fu have a sort of father-son/grandfather-grandchild/close family oriented relationship with at least one of our young heroes and I think Nino would be the perfect candidate to bring out that side of him. We don’t know if Fu used to have any kids of his own. I doubt he ever did given his duty as Miraculous holder and Ancient Guardian (and even if hid have some, he probably outgrew them since he’s practically immortal). So yeah, I’d love to see that kind of bond with Fu, Nino and Wayzz in the series, if possible.

Do I think Master Fu will choose Nino as his successor for the Turtle Miraculous? Indeed I do.

However, do I think he’ll just hand it to him on a silver platter like he did with Adrien and Marinette? HA! Hell no! I think Master Fu will go full Mr. Miyagi on Nino and make him work for his miraculous, putting him through a rigorous training regimen to build his strength and test his worth. Plus it’ll be good for comical moments when Fu unintentionally pushes poor Nino too far and has to be scolded by Wayzz for getting too excited and overdoing things with his student. Poor Turtle Sensei just wants to see his Turtle Kouhai succeed XD

Would love to see this become canon but…for now these are all just headcanons of mine. In the meantime, a squiggle meister can dream…and draw, am I right? Alrighty I’ve rambled enough on this. As always, I hope everyone enjoys this week’s newest ML squiggle art and I hope you also enjoyed my Miraculous musing (granted you actually read all of that). Feel free to share yours over on my main blog if you have any.

Until the next squiggle piece, y’know my motto, staaaay tune for more precious star kids!  (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

You went to the cafe every morning, in hopes of spotting Jungkook, to somehow attempt to make everything right. For the first few days, he either wouldn’t hear you, or simply ignore your presence. Not to mention, Y/F/N was always near him.

You couldn’t message him from Sarcastic Princess, because one, Jungkook wold be even angrier how ridiculous this was getting for him. He wasn’t a fan of drama and that was just what was going to happen. Second, Y/F/N knew some shitty things about you, including why you never revealed yourself to Jungkook, and you knew she wouldn’t hesitate to tell Jungkook if you in any way ruined her chances with him. Hell, if you even thought about texting him as Sarcastic Princess, she could somehow convince him you’re were some CIA level hacker. She was that manipulative.

Then, those days when he was alone, he’d give a forced smile as if he didn’t care at all by what you’ve done.

“Hey, Y/N,” his eyes would gaze over the store as if looking for someone.

“Look, Jungkook. I know I lied but–”

“Can we not talk about this? It’s over with. I got my pen pal, and that’s all I ever wanted,” He spoke, sternly, the last few words expressing more meaning than said.

That’s all he ever wanted. Just his pen pal. He never really was your friend, he was hinting. He wanted you to think he didn’t care at all about what had happened, or you for that matter. And that hurt. A lot.

He would leave, making a dumb excuse to meet up with Y/F/N. This went on for two weeks. She never hung out at your dorm anymore. Scoffing just thinking about it, you two never had much in common. She was more outgoing, popular, had a better style while you liked to stay in and watch time go by wearing your comfiest clothes.

It was only until you told her about your pen pal when she seemed interested in your friendship. You should’ve known from the start. She was using you. Those times you asked if you were being sly enough, she was just being sly herself by learning to be his pen pal.

But out of all of it, you still had his friends. It was one day, you were in the library, a place you only used to go with Jungkook, when Jimin and taehyung rolled next to you on swivel chairs.

“Hey, Y/N! Jungkook’s not around?” Jimin smiled.

“No. Just in case he hasn’t told you, we’re not friends anymore,” You looked at the computer in front of you, swallowing the knot in your throat.

“Wh–what?” Taehyung gasped, quite dramatically.

“Yeah, I lied to him. And he found out.” Now it was their turn to hate you.

“Finally let him know you were his pen pal?”

Choking on a breath, you coughed. “What?”

“C’mon, Y/N. The way he spoke how you spontaneously entered his life, accidentally when his pen pal gave him her room number? Not that hard to see through,” Taehyung shook his head, but held in an amused smile.

“But–”

“He’s an idiot. That’s why he didn’t suspect it. Why didn’t you tell him, anyway? He was in your room.”

You blinked at the boys’ curious faces.

“Uh, Y/N?”

“I think we broke her. She was sad, remember?”

Letting out a sigh, you looked down. “I lied because he was disappointed. You should’ve seen his face when he saw me, wearing my usual comfy clothes, messy hair. It wasn’t what he expected nor wanted.”

“Idiot,” Jimin shook his head to himself, referring to Jungkook.

“But you two became friends! Surely, now he would understand why you felt that way. Why is he mad?”

“Because I wasn’t the one who told him. Psh–She didn’t even tell him the truth. Just made it a bigger lie.”

“She?” Taehyung asked.

“Y/F/N,” You spoke as if the name was poison on your tongue.

The boys looked at each other and clenched their jaws. “Y/F/N. Oh, we’ve heard of her.”

“You have? All good things I assume because she’s pretending to be Jungkook’s pen pal.

“Hm, from him, she’s okay, I guess. But we don’t like her,” Jimin frowned.

“Nope. At all,” Taehyung confirmed with a nod.

“Why not?”

“All she does is take away our time with him. He’s never around because they’re too busy hanging out. We’re glad she’s not his pen pal. We were really rooting that it was you.”

“That sure sounds like Y/F/N. I wish I would’ve known her motives sooner before I lost him.”

“You didn’t lose him,” Taehyung placed a hand on your shoulder. “Just tell him everything you told us.”

“I can’t do that. He’d still hate me. And when it comes to how much he hates me now and how much he’ll hate me if I tell him, I think I’m fine right now. Plus, why would he believe me after everything? Why would he even care?”

“Y/N…”

“I can’t tell Jungkook. Not gonna do it. Sorry for trying, boys, but I’m fine and I deserved this. Sure, I wish he could have the same outlook you two have but I’m not willing to risk it.” You stood up in your seat to leave when your heart dropped to the floor. You couldn’t move.

“Tell me what?”

OOOOOkdshjfasdfkdjsf Wow who did two updates for the same series in a day??? Hello, yes, I did… Also, hey remember when this was fluff? Lolololol

Part 12?👀 (aasdfgh i know y’all want it)

Fairy Tail series is done but it seems you guys forgot something...

So yeah, we did get a bit of open ending but won’t you just stop complaining and think that Mashima might show it in the anime instead. I mean, I do admit that the last chapter was a bit lacking but then again, I’m not even surprised since the past few chapters didn’t show much that the series is ending so that’s why we got that final chapter.

But don’t forget guys, Hiro Mashima is the lead anime project for the new FT anime, and somehow I think he will add extra scenes to our favorite ships or characters in the anime since maybe he thinks it might be better with animation and music plus with voice acting as well.

Let’s be happy for Mashima for giving us this series that we love and try to look forward for next year when the anime is out ^^

zadjatheifrit  asked:

What was it like getting your first gig as a director on a show like Ducktales, and what does it mean honestly to be a director?

Hey! Like doing anything for the first time I was in complete denial that I could direct and thought I was going to get fired everyday. After about two months I got into the groove of things and found out I really LIKE directing! The multitasking, the collaboration, apparently I’m into that shit. Unfortunately I had to leave DT early bc I was moving on to develop my own project full time.

Your second question interests me a lot. Most people think a director for feature film and a director for TV do the same things. They don’t! I don’t know what it’s like to direct a film but here’s what my situation was like on Ducktales: I was one of 3 directors. I had a team of 3 (awesome and amazing) board artists that I was supervising; making sure their separate scenes flowed into one cohesive episode. My boss, the showrunner Matt Youngberg, basically does what I do on a macro scale. He supervises the directors and makes sure all the episodes flow into one cohesive series (plus attends an atrocious amount of meetings). I don’t write, though I may suggest changes if some problems arise. Luckily we have a super collaborative team where we have an open dialogue with the writers. I also spend a lot of time with editors figuring out the timing of everything. (That’s a part of the process I really love. If you’re thinking of directing start stock piling a music library! Your future self with thank you!) I do a million other tiny jobs but my main goal is making sure my episodes are fun.

Every director prioritizes different things and every show defines a director in a different way. Many shows have Assistant Directors. (Ducktales doesn’t.) Some shows don’t even have directors, they have storyboard supervisors, different name for the same job. Sometimes directors are also writers, sometimes they attend records, sometimes they board sometimes they don’t etc etc. But no matter where you are you always have the same goal: to make your episodes CLEAR and ENTERTAINING. Everything else is secondary.

Full Esquire Interview - CHRIS EVANS IS READY TO FIGHT

“HIS SUCCESS AS CAPTAIN AMERICA HAS MADE CHRIS EVANS ONE OF HOLLYWOOD’S SURE THINGS, WHICH MEANS HE CAN DO WHATEVER HE WANTS WITH HIS FREE TIME. SO WHY JUMP OUT OF AIRPLANES AND GET INTO IT WITH DAVID DUKE?

BY MAXIMILLIAN POTTERMAR 15, 2017

The Canadian commandos are the first to jump. Our plane reaches an altitude of about eight thousand feet; the back door opens. Although it’s a warm winter day below in rural southern California, up here, not so much. In whooshes freezing air and the cold reality that this is actually happening. Out drop the eight commandos, all in black-and-red camouflage, one after the other. For them it’s a training exercise, and Jesus, these crazy bastards are stoked. The last Canuck to exit into the nothingness is a freakishly tall stud with a crew cut and a handlebar mustache; just before he leaps, he flashes a smile our way. Yeah, yeah, we get it: You’re a badass.

Moments later, the plane’s at ten thousand feet, and the next to go are a Middle Eastern couple in their late thirties. These two can’t wait. They are ecstatic. Skydiving is clearly a thing for them. Why? I can’t help thinking. Is it like foreplay? Do they rush off to the car after landing and get it on in the parking lot? They give us the thumbs-up and they’re gone.

Just like that, we’re at 12,500 feet and it’s our turn. Me and Chris Evans, recognized throughout the universe as the star of the Marvel-comic-book-inspired Captain America and Avengers movies. The five films in the series, which began in 2011 with Captain America: The First Avenger, have grossed more than $4 billion.

The two of us, plus four crew members, are the only ones left in the back of the plane. Over the loud drone of the twin propellers, one of the crew members shouts, "Okay, who’s going first?”

Evans and I are seated on benches opposite each other. Neither of us answers. I look at him; he looks at me. I feel like I’ve swallowed a live rat. Evans is over there, all Captain America cool, smiling away.

While we were waiting to board the plane, Evans told me that as he lay in bed the night before, “I started exploring the sensation of ‘What if the chute doesn’t open?’. . .”

Oh, did you now?

“. . .Those last minutes where you know.” As in you know you’re going to fatally splat. “You’re not gonna pass out; you’re gonna be wide awake. So what? Do I close my eyes? Hopefully, it would be quick. Lights out. I fucking hope it would be quick. And then I was like, if you’re gonna do it, let’s just pretend there is no way this is going to go wrong. Just really embrace it and jump out of that plane with gusto.” Evans also shared that he’d looked up the rate of skydiving fatalities. “It’s, like, 0.006 fatalities per one thousand jumps. So I figure our odds are pretty good.”

Again the crew member shouts, “Who’s going first?”

Again I look at Evans; again he looks at me. The rat is running circles in my belly.

I look at Evans; he looks at me.

Another crew member asks, “So whose idea was this, anyway?”

That’s an excellent question.

I ask Evans the same thing when we first meet, the evening before our jump, at his house. He lives atop the Hollywood Hills, in a modern-contemporary ranch in the center of a Japanese-style garden. The place has the vibe of an L.A. meditation retreat—there’s even a little Buddha statue on the front step.

The dude who opens the front door is in jeans, a T-shirt, and Nikes; he has on a black ball cap with the NASA logo, and his beard is substantial enough that for a second it’s hard to be sure this is the same guy who plays the baby-faced superhero. Our handshake in the doorway is interrupted when his dog rockets toward my crotch. Evans is sorry about that.

We do the small-talk thing. Evans is from a suburb of Boston, one of four kids raised by Dad, a dentist, and Mom, who ran a community theater. The point is, he’s a Patriots fan, and with Super Bowl LI, between the Pats and the Falcons, just a few days away at the time, it’s about the only thing on his mind. You bet your Sam Adams–guzzling ass he’s going to the game in Houston. “Oh my God,” he says, doing a little dance. “I can’t believe it’s this weekend.”

Like any self-respecting Pats fan, Evans is super-wicked pissed at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Evans won’t be rolling to SB LI with a posse of Beantown-to-Hollywood A-listers like Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck. For the record, he’s never met Damon, and his only interaction with Wahlberg was a couple years ago at a Patriots event. Evans has, however, humiliated himself in front of Affleck.

Around 2006, Evans met with Affleck to talk about Gone Baby Gone, which Affleck was directing. Evans was walking down a hallway, looking for the room where they were supposed to meet. Walking by an open office, he heard Affleck, in that thick Boston accent of his, shout, “There he is!” (Evans does a perfect Affleck impersonation.)

By then, Evans had hit the big time for his turn as the Human Torch, Johnny Storm, in 2005’s Fantastic Four, but he still got starstruck. As he tells it, “First thing I say to him: 'Am I going to be okay where I parked?’ He was like, 'Where did you park?’ I said, 'At a meter.’ And he was like, 'Did you put money in the meter?’ And I said, 'Yep.’ And he says, 'Well, I think you’ll be okay.’ I was like, this is off to a great fucking start.” Stating the obvious here: Evans did not get the part.

No, Evans will be heading to the Super Bowl with his brother and three of his closest buddies. Like any self-respecting Pats fan, Evans is super-wicked pissed at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for imposing that suspension on Tom Brady for Deflategate. Grabbing two beers from a fridge that’s otherwise basically empty, Evans says, “I just want to see Goodell hand the trophy to Brady. Goodell. Piece of shit.”

In Evans’s living room, there’s not a single hint of his Captain Americaness. Earth tones, tables that appear to be made of reclaimed wood. Open. Uncluttered. Glass doors open onto a backyard with a stunning view of the Hills. Evans stretches out on one of two couches. I take the other and ask, “Just whose idea was it to jump?” Since we both know whose idea it wasn’t, we both know that what I’m really asking is Why? Why, dude, do you want to jump (with me) from a goddamn airplane? “Yeah,” he says, popping open his beer, “I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Settling in on the couch, he groans. Evans explains that he’s hurting all over because he just started his workout routine the day before to get in shape for the next two Captain America films. The movies will be shot back to back beginning in April. After that, no more red- white-and-blue costume for the thirty-five-year-old. He will have fulfilled his contract.

“Yeah,” he says, popping open his beer, “I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Back in 2010, Marvel presented Evans with a nine-picture deal. He insisted he’d sign on for no more than six. Some family members thought he was nuts to dial back such a secure and lucrative gig. Evans saw it differently.

It takes five months to shoot a Marvel movie, and when you tack on the promotional obligations for each one, well, shit, man. Evans knew that for as long as he was bound to Captain America, he would have little time to take on other projects. He wanted to direct, he wanted to play other characters—roles that were more human—like the lead in Gifted, which will hit theaters this month. The script had brought him to tears. Evans managed to squeeze the movie in between Captain America and Avengers films.

FOX Searchlight

In Gifted, Evans stars as Frank Adler. You don’t get much more human than Adler, a grease-under-his-nails boat-engine mechanic living the bachelor life in Florida. After a series of tragic circumstances, Adler becomes a surrogate father to his niece, Mary, a first-grader with the IQ of Einstein. He recognizes that Mary is a little genius, and he does his best to prevent anyone else from noticing. Given the aforementioned circumstances, Adler has witnessed what can happen when a kid with a brilliant mind is pushed too hard too quickly. Then along comes Mary’s teacher. She discovers the child’s gift, and a Kramer vs. Kramer–esque drama ensues.

During a moment in the film when things aren’t going Adler’s way, he sarcastically refers to himself as a “fucking hero.” Evans says the line didn’t lead him to make comparisons between superhero Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) and Everyman hero Frank Adler. But now that you mention it . . .

“With Steve Rogers,” Evans says, “even though you’re on a giant movie with a huge budget and strange costumes, you’re still on a hunt for the truth of the character.” That said, “with Adler, it’s nice to play someone relatable. I think Julianne Moore said, 'The audience doesn’t come to see you; they come to see themselves.’ Adler is someone you can hold up as a mirror for someone in the audience. They’ll be able to far more easily identify with Frank Adler than Steve Rogers.”

Dodger. That’s the name of Evans’s dog, the one who headbutted my nuts and has since done a marvelous job of making amends by nuzzling against me on the couch. Evans got him while he was filming Gifted; one of the last scenes was shot in an animal shelter in Georgia. Evans had wanted a dog ever since his last pooch died in 2012. Then he found himself walking the aisles of this pound, and there was this mixed-breed boxer, wagging his tail and looking like he belonged with Evans.

Dodger is not exactly a name you’d think a die-hard Boston sports fan would pick. His boys from back home have given him a ton of shit over it. But he has not abandoned his Red Sox for the L.A. team. As a kid, he loved the Disney animated movie Oliver & Company, and his favorite character was Dodger. Anticipating the grief he was going to get from his pals, Evans considered other names. “You could name your dog Doorknob,” he says, “and in a month he’s fucking Doorknob.” Evans’s mom convinced him to go with his gut.

Right around when Evans was wrapping Gifted and heading back to L.A. with Dodger, the 2016 presidential campaign was still in that phase when no one, including the actor—a Hillary Clinton supporter—thought Trump had a shot. He still can’t believe Trump won.

“I feel rage,” he says. “I feel fury. It’s unbelievable. People were just so desperate to hear someone say that someone is to blame. They were just so happy to hear that someone was angry. Hear someone say that Washington sucks. They just want something new without actually understanding. I mean, guys like Steve Bannon—Steve Bannon!—this man has no place in politics.”

Evans has made, and continues to make, his political views known on Twitter. He tweeted that Trump ought to “stop energizing lies,” and he recently ended up in a heated Twitter debate with former KKK leader David Duke over Trump’s pick of Jeff Sessions for attorney general. Duke baselessly accused Evans of being anti-Semitic; Evans encouraged Duke to try love: “It’s stronger than hate. It unites us. I promise it’s in you under the anger and fear.” Making political statements and engaging in such public exchanges is a rather risky thing for the star of Captain America to do. Yes, advisors have said as much to him. “Look, I’m in a business where you’ve got to sell tickets,” he says. “But, my God, I would not be able to look at myself in the mirror if I felt strongly about something and didn’t speak up. I think it’s about how you speak up. We’re allowed to disagree. If I state my case and people don’t want to go see my movies as a result, I’m okay with that.”

Trump. Bannon. Politics. Now Evans is animated. He gets off the couch, walks out onto his porch, and lights a cigarette. “Some people say, 'Don’t you see what’s happening? It’s time to yell,' ” Evans says. “Yeah, I see it, and it’s time for calm. Because not everyone who voted for Trump is going to be some horrible bigot. There are a lot of people in that middle; those are the people you can’t lose your credibility with. If you’re trying to change minds, by spewing too much rhetoric you can easily become white noise.”

Evans has a pretty remarkable “How I got to Hollywood” story.

During his junior year of high school, he knew he wanted to act. He was doing it a lot. In school. At his mom’s theater. He loved it. “When you’re doing a play at thirteen years old and have opening night? None of my friends had opening nights. 'I can’t have a sleepover, guys; I have an opening night tonight.' ”

That same year, he did a two-man play. For all of the twenty-plus plays Evans had done up to that point, preparation meant going home, memorizing lines, and doing a few run-throughs with the cast. However, for this play, Fallen Star, he and his costar would rehearse by running dialogue with each other. Hour upon hour, night after night.

Fallen Star is about two friends, one of whom has just died. As the play opens, one of the characters comes home after the funeral to find his dead friend’s ghost. Evans was the ghost. Waiting backstage on opening night, he knew he didn’t have every line memorized, but he had the essence and emotion of the play down. Onstage, he remembers, “I was saying the lines not because they were memorized but because the play was in me. I was believing what I was saying.”

He was hooked. He wanted to do more of this kind of acting—real acting. He wanted to do films, in which the camera was right on him and he could just be the character, rather than theater, in which an actor must perform to the back of the room.

A family friend who was a television actor advised Evans that if he wanted to go to Hollywood, he needed an agent. Toward the end of his junior year, he had a ballsy request for his parents: If he found an internship with a casting agent in New York City, would they allow him to live there and cover the rent? They agreed. Evans landed a gig with Bonnie Finnegan, who was then working on the television show Spin City.

“I just fucked off. I lost my virginity that year. 1999 was one of the best years of my life.” Until it wasn’t.

Evans chose to intern with a casting agent because he figured he had more of a chance to interact with other agents trying to get auditions for their clients.

The kid was sixteen years old.

Finnegan put Evans on the phone; his responsibilities included setting up appointments for auditions. By the end of the summer, he picked the three agents he had the best rapport with and asked each of them to give him a five-minute audition. All three said yes. After seeing his audition, all three were interested.

Evans went with the one Finnegan recommended, Bret Adams, who told Evans to return to New York for auditions in January, television pilot season. Back home, Evans doubled up on a few classes the first semester of his senior year, graduated early, and went back to New York in January. He got the same shithole apartment in Brooklyn and the same internship with Finnegan. He landed a part on the pilot Opposite Sex. Even better, the show got picked up and would start shooting in L.A. that fall.

“I know I’m going to L.A. in August,” Evans says, recalling that period. “So I go home and that spring I would wake up around noon, saunter into high school just to see my buddies, and we’d go get high in the parking lot. I just fucked off. I lost my virginity that year. 1999 was one of the best years of my life.” Until it wasn’t.

He wasn’t in L.A. for even a month when he got a call from home. His parents were divorcing. Evans never saw it coming.

Family and love and the struggles therein are part of what attracted Evans to Gifted.

“In my own life, I have a deep connection with my family and the value of those bonds,” he says. “I’ve always loved stories about people who put their families before themselves. It’s such a noble endeavor. You can’t choose your family, as opposed to friends. Especially in L.A. You really get to see how friendships are put to the test; it stirs everyone’s egos. But if something goes south with a friend, you have the option to say we’re not friends anymore. Your family—that’s your family. Trying to make that system work and trying to make it not just functional but actually enjoyable is a really challenging endeavor, and that’s certainly how it is with my family.”

the plane, a decision is made.

“I want to see you jump first,” Evans shouts my way.

Of course he does.

Like any respectable and legal skydiving center, Skydive Perris, which is providing us with this “experience,” doesn’t just strap a chute on your back. First, you go to a room for a period of instruction. Then you go to another room, where you sign away your rights.

You may be wondering how the star of a billion-dollar franchise with two pictures to shoot gets clearance to jump from an airplane—never mind the low rate of fatalities, as Evans has presented it. So am I.

“Well, they give you all these crazy insurance policies, but even if I die, what are they going to do? Sue my family? They’d probably cast some new guy at a cheaper price and save some money.”

Thinking the answer is almost certainly going to be no, I ask Evans if he’s ever gone skydiving before. Turns out he has, with an ex-girlfriend. Turns out that ex-girlfriend is now married to Justin Timberlake. Evans and Jessica Biel dated off and on from 2001 to 2006. They took the leap together when Biel hatched the idea for one Valentine’s Day. According to media accounts, Evans was recently dating his Gifted costar Jenny Slate, who plays the teacher. “Yeah,” he says, “but I’m steering clear of those questions.” You can almost feel his heart pinch.

“There’s a certain shared life experience that is tough for someone else who’s not in this industry to kind of wrap their head around.”

We end up broadly discussing the unique challenges an international star like Evans faces when it comes to dating, specifically the trust factor. Evans supposes that’s why so many actors date other actors: “There’s a certain shared life experience that is tough for someone else who’s not in this industry to kind of wrap their head around,” he says. “Letting someone go to work with someone for three months and they won’t see them. It really, it certainly puts the relationship to the test.”

In Gifted, there’s a moment when Slate’s character asks Adler what his greatest fear is. Frank Adler’s greatest fear is that he’ll ruin his niece’s life. Evans’s greatest fear is having regrets.

“Like always kind of wanting to be there as opposed to here. I think I’m worried all of a sudden I’ll get old and have regrets, realize that I’ve not cultivated enough of an appreciation for the now and surrendering to the present moment.”

Evans’s musings have something to do with the fact that he has been reading The Surrender Experiment. “It’s about the basic notion that we are only in a good mood when things are going our way,” he says. “The truth is, life is going to unfold as it’s going to unfold regardless of your input. If you are an active participant in that awareness, life kind of washes over you, good or bad. You kind of become Teflon a little bit to the struggles that we self-inflict.”

He continues: “Our conscious minds are very spread out. We worry about the past. We worry about the future. We label. And all of that stuff just makes us very separate. What I’m trying to do is just quiet it down. Put that brain down from time to time and hope those periods of quiet and stillness get longer. When you do that, what rises from the mist is a kind of surrendering. You’re more connected as opposed to being separate. A lot of the questions about destiny or fate or purpose or any of that stuff—it’s not like you get answers. You just realize you didn’t need the questions.”

This here—this stuff about surrendering, letting life unfold, taking the leap—this is why he wanted to go skydiving. It’s why that sixteen-year-old took the leap and did the summer in New York; it’s why he took the leap and turned down the nine-picture deal; it’s why he got Dodger. Surrender. Take the leap.

And so I go first.

Oh, one important detail: Novice jumpers like Evans and me, we don’t jump solo. Thank God. Each of us is doing a tandem jump. Each of us is strapped with our back to a professional jumper’s front. I’m strapped to a forty-four-year-old dude named Paul. Considering what’s about to happen, I figure I should know a little something about Paul. He tells me he used to own a bar in Chicago. Evans is strapped to a young woman named Sam, who looks to be twenty-something. She’s got a purplish-pink streak in her black hair and says things like “badass.” In fact, Sam introduced herself  by saying, “I’m Sam, but you can call me Badass.”

At the plane’s open door, my mind goes to my wife and two teenage sons, to those I love, and to the texts I just sent in case my chute fails. Then Paul and I—well, really mostly Paul—rock gently back and forth to build momentum to push away from the plane, to push away from all that seems sane.

Three.

Two.

One.

Holy fuck.

HOLY FUCK. This is what I scream as we free-fall from 12,500 feet, at more than a hundred miles an hour, toward the earth. Which I cannot take my eyes off of. I think about nothing. Not living. Not dying. Nothing. I simply feel . . . I have let go.

Suddenly, it all stops. I’m jerked up. Paul has pulled the chute, and it does indeed open. This is fantastic, because it means we have a much better chance of not dying. But it’s also kind of a bummer. I had let go. Of everything. I had chosen to play those odds Evans had talked about. I had embraced jumping and letting life unfold.

Now I had been jerked back. I would land. Back on the earth I had been so high above and from which I had been so far removed. Back in all of it.

Once I’m on the ground, safe and in one piece, a staffer runs over and asks how I feel. I say, “I feel like Captain America.”

The staffer runs over and asks Evans the same question. He says he feels great. Then he’s asked another question: What was your favorite part?

“Jumping out,” he says. “Jumping out is always a real thrill.”

“Hey, DumDum. Where is he?” you asked, never slowing a step.

“Afternoon, Y/N,” the mustachioed man replied, answering your question by hooking his thumb toward the garage.

Stepping into the cavernous garage, you searched for the long-haired brunet but grew impatient. “James Buchanan Barnes!” you shouted into the echoing space, then seeing a head pop up in between cars.

ok ok ok so i keep seeing all these memes about the mcelroy brothers and i am left with two questions: who are these people? and they are HILARIOUS where can i consume their content? i honestly have no idea lmao

IVE NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITED TO ANSWER A QUESTION IN MY LIFE

ok ok ok so the mcelroy brothers are these three rowdy boys called justin, travis, and griffin mcelroy, and they are some good good boys that are all delightfully funny and overall gr8 individuals.

justin is your oldest brother, editor-at-large, and seriously named his d&d character taako (pronounced like taco). his face does the squish when he laughs.

travis is your middlest brother, sexpert (maybe?), very scared of spiders, and did a hit. is a sweetheart and also has a beard. is starting a series called carrey on where he reviews jim carrey’s movies.

and griffin is your sweet baby brother, and forbes 30 under 30 media luminary despite being a completely ridiculous individual but we love him for it.

I was first exposed to the mcelboy content through youtube! griffin and nick (not a mcelroy but a pretty funny dude) do videos on polygon like car boys, coolgames inc, and touch the skyrim. griffin and justin do a really great series called monster factory! plus griffin also is currently doing his peacecraft series which is A+

there are also a lot of animated shorts on youtube for their podcasts and shows, if you just want to dip ur toe into their content!

another place for sweet mcelroy content are the podcasts they do! one of them is called “my brother, my brother and me” (mbmbam) and its a really fun podcast/’advice show for the modern era’ where the boys answer yahoo questions, and its been running for i think seven years!

mbmbam is through maximum fun, which has a whole host of other lovely podcasts, some of which the boys are involved in (bunker buddies, trends like these, shmanners, sawbones, and rose buddies, i wanna say thats it but i honestly have no idea). heres a nice list of them all

another good podcast is The Adventure Zone (taz), which is a dungeons and dragons podcast that griffin DMs! it has their dad in it! its really great, and i highly recommend it even if u aren’t into d&d!

you can get all these sweet podcasts 4 free through itunes! (tho max fun has em for rss if itunes aint ur jam)

they also just released a tv show for mbmbam! you can watch one of the episodes FOR FREE on youtube, and then u can watch the rest through seeso!

and that concludes your introductory course to the mcelboys. have fun!

Snowbaz Memories - The Sun’s Birthday (0.4k)

It’s @eroticgropefest‘s birthday, ya’ll! :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!

@bazwearsjeans organized this lovely fanfiction series, all in honor of Katie’s birthday! So here is my contribution to it (: Plus with Simon’s birthday coming up in a few days, I thought this would be perfect!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE AND SIMON!

Baz

Snow doesn’t know when his birthday is.

None of us do.

I hadn’t realized it until last week, when Snow had told me that he was thinking about getting a sword. I had immediately told him that I would buy it for him (in hopes that it would help him towards moving on with the past), and then an argument ensued; something that always happens when I offer to buy him anything. So I compromised, telling him that I would gift it to him on his birthday. Snow’s eyebrows furrowed instantly.

“I don’t have a birthday,”  he said, and rather casually, I might add.

I frowned at him. “What do you mean you ‘don’t have a birthday’?”

“I mean, I don’t have a birthday, Baz. I’ve never had one. I don’t know.”

“That’s…” And then I thought about it. Back at Watford, Simon had never once mentioned his birthday. Nor had anyone else. There was never any evidence of it in our room, or during any of the times I was trying not to be consciously aware of him.

“You really don’t know?” I asked. “Did the Mage never tell you when your birthday was?”

He shook his head. “Never.”

So Snow doesn’t know when his birthday is. I even went so far as to ask Bunce, and she simply shrugged and told me that no one knows. Which has led to where I am now: sitting at the kitchen table with Bunce and a dreadfully confused Snow.

“What’s going on?” He asks, raising an eyebrow at me.

Bunce sits a large plate of cake in front of him.

“What is this for?”

“It’s for your birthday,” I say.

He frowns. “I already told you, Baz. I don’t have a birthday.”

“You do now, Simon,” Bunce says, sitting next to him. I pull out a long box from beneath the table and place it next to him.

Simon narrows his eyes at both of us, then opens the box.

“You actually got me a sword,” he says, although it almost sounds like a question.

“I did,” I say. “I had it made to resemble the Sword of Mages.” Created by one of my cousins, but I don’t tell Simon that. Oh, the irony, I think.

He pulls the sword from the box and examines it thoroughly.

“I got you something too, Simon,” Bunce says, and then she gets up and walks off to her room.

Simon places the sword back into the box. He grabs my shirt collar and pulls me into him, kissing me intensely.

“Thank you,” he whispers against my lips.

“Of course, Simon,”

He then pulls away and gives me a curious look. “But why did you choose today to be my birthday?”

“You’re the sun,” I say. “It only makes sense to have it on the summer solstice.”

tyrion is not a targ

Non-Targs with white- or pale-blond hair:

  • Tommen Baratheon
  • Marei (who incidentally is almost certainly Tywin’s bastard daughter)
  • Justin Massey
  • Cassella Vaith
  • Edric Dayne
  • Leo Tyrell
  • Kem of the Second Sons

Targ children who have atypical Targ features:

  • Alysanne (blue eyes)
  • Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey “Velaryon” (brown hair, brown eyes)
  • Elaena (streak of gold)
  • Bittersteel (black hair)
  • Baelor Breakspear (dark hair, dark eyes)
  • Valarr (brown hair, blue eyes)
  • Daeron, Maekar’s son (brown hair, unknown eye color)
  • Duncan (black hair, unknown eye color)
  • Steffon Baratheon (black hair, presumably blue eyes)
  • Rhaenys, Rhaegar’s daughter (dark hair, dark eyes)
  • Jon Snow (brown hair, gray eyes)

Madness from Targ-Targ unions:

  • Maegor
  • Helaena (though trauma-induced)
  • Aegon III (“ ”)
  • Baelor I
  • Maelys I Blackfyre (?)
  • Aerys II
  • Viserys

Madness from Targ-nonTarg unions

  • Rhaegel (who in fact was likely only “simple,” not mad, considering two of his descriptors were “gentle” and “sweet,” and he seemingly had perfectly normal relations with his wife and three children)
  • Aerion (only considered a jackass, not mad, until he drank wildfire, and even that wasn’t until he was 40 years old)

Infant deaths/birth problems from Targ-Targ unions:

  • Jaehaerys I/Alysanne (x4)
  • Daemon/Rhaenyra
  • Aegon IV/Naerys (x4)
  • Aerys II/Rhaella (x8)

Infant deaths/birth problems from Targ-nonTarg unions (excluding those induced by black magic):

  • Viserys I/Aemma Arryn (x2) (note Aemma was half-Targ herself, and Viserys was the result of an incestuous union)
  • Daemon/Mysaria of Lys (note Daemon was the result of incest, and as a Lyseni, Mysaria was of Valyrian descent)
  • Daemon/Laena Velaryon  (“ ” and as a Velaryon, Laena was of Valyrian descent)
  • Valarr/Kiera of Tyrosh (x2) (likely more a result of the stress of the storm/spring sickness than any genetic problems)

And if we exclude Valyrian bloodlines, that leaves Valarr and Kiera as the only Targ-nonTarg union to have any reported problems. Not to mention fully outsourced unions are almost completely problem-free, and quite fruitful:

  • Daeron II/Mariah Martell: 4 children
  • Daemon Blackfyre/Rohanne of Tyrosh: 9+ children
  • Maekar I/Dyanna Dayne: 6 children
  • Aegon V/Betha Blackwood: 5 children
  • Then there’s Aegon IV’s innumerable unknown bastards

I should also add that as first cousins, Tywin and Joanna were genetically incestuous, Joanna is only one of countless women in this series who were perfectly healthy yet died in childbirth, there are more than 13 other characters who are dwarfs, and considering there is no known history of achondroplasia in the Lannisters (or the Targaryens, for that matter), Tyrion’s condition is nothing more than a sporadic mutation.

But y’know, you do you and keep thinking that Tyrion’s appearance and Joanna’s death are the result of him being secretly a Targaryen despite all evidence (AND THE ENTIRE FUCKING NARRATIVE) indicating otherwise.

Fic Recs Mega Post

Whenever I write one of these posts I’m struck by the sheer amount of incredible writing talent in this little fandom of ours. It is quite astonishing, and it’s a privilege to get to read all of this wonderful work. Below there’s a small selection of the fantastic stuff I’ve been reading recently, featuring gods, monsters and feral jungle men - and that’s just for starters!

Storms (series) by @lovecrimevariations (KareliaSweet): This frankly astonishing series starts out in barnstorming but fairly innocuous style in Where Are The Storms I Was Promised, in which Will Graham, famous monster hunter, is called to deal with the Wendigo that’s been terrorising an entire town. And then it proceeds, over the course of a further six instalments, to document the beautiful, bloody, often painful course of the relationship between Will and Hannibal, constantly deepening and recontextualising the ‘verse as it goes. Reading this series is almost like watching a really good magic trick – every time you think you’ve got its measure, it pulls something new and surprising out of its hat. And it’s not just flash and sparkle either, the writing is utterly beautiful, the characters are perfectly captured and it is both deeply funny and enormously moving (I was genuinely weepy a number of times throughout). Plus, it also features a majestic, powerful, do-not-under-any-circumstances-fuck-with incarnation of Bedelia, who is worth the price of admission all by herself. Seriously, she was my favourite part of this whole series and I love it beyond any sense or reason. If you have any love of writing whatsoever, read this series, it is a masterclass.

You’ll be in my heart by @starkaryen: Based on the totally beautiful art (here and here) by @camilleflyingrotten, here Will is a scientist on an expedition to find and study gorillas. Instead, he ends up finding Hannibal, a mostly-feral man who lives in the jungle, has an adopted gorilla family, and takes an immediate shine to Will. Who, because this is Will and Hannibal, finds himself taking a shine right back. And all is rosy in Camp Hannigram, until Jack damn Crawford sticks his nose in (like always) and threatens Hannibal’s way of life. As befits the utterly gorgeous artwork, this fic is just lovely from start to finish. It features a particularly adorable version of Hannibal – the scenes in which he indulges his obsession with Will’s safari hat are nothing short of precious – and a charmingly earnest Will. It’s a simple, innocent bit of loveliness, which is rather refreshing in this dark and sophisticated fandom of ours XD.

(Also, if you’d like a little more Tarzan AU, this time with an A/B/O flavour, check out Hannizan by @hotsauce418, which is just pure filth and utterly wonderful with it XD.)

We, the common by @thelongcon23 (thelongcon): A retelling of the show (and beyond) in omegaverse style, this fic alternates masterfully between Hannibal and Will’s POVs as the omega becomes fascinated, obsessed, and ultimately falls in love with the alpha. The result is that while the course of events remains largely the same         (Will still gets framed and gutted, and they still go over the cliff in each other’s arms), others change drastically (the way Will locates Hannibal in Florence, for instance, gets a very clever omegaverse twist). And their relationship after the fall? Well, I can pretty much guarantee you’ve never seen it go down quite like this before. If you’re looking for fluff, I suggest you go elsewhere, but if you’re after passion, intensity, and that terribly Hannigram sense that love and cruelty are not mutually exclusive, this is the fic for you. The writer has a firm grip on the characters’ voices and motivations and is uncompromising and incisive in their betrayal of both. This is not necessarily an easy read (particularly towards the end, when Hannibal gives Will a reckoning of his own) but it is a compelling and fascinating one.

Cookies by @desperatelyseekingcannibals (TigerPrawn): Now, those of you who are after some fluff, here’s some of the best around. Tiger’s non-cannibal AU is an absolute treat, full of emotional idiots, kick-ass women and a totally adorable kid (and I don’t say that lightly cos kid!fic ain’t my thing!). It all starts when Will accompanies his daughter Abigail as she goes door-to-door selling cookies for charity and finds himself face to face with the ever-so-handsome Doctor Lecter. And then somehow, before he knows it, Will is agreeing to a date in exchange for Hannibal buying all of Abby’s stock, and soon finding that he might have stumbled into a real relationship. Not that it’s smooth sailing, of course, this is still Hannigram we’re talking about! It is my deep and ardent belief that Hannibal dreams of being a romcom when it grows up and with this utterly charming, romantic, as-sweet-as-its-name-suggests fic, that dream is made a reality. Anyone who’s ever wanted to see Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter fall in love the old-fashioned way (you know, without all those annoying stints in prison and near-fatal injuries), treat yourself and read this fic. I guarantee it will melt even the most dark and twisted of hearts.

Picture Imperfect by @shiphitsthefan: Will Graham is a very special alpha – unlike many of his sex, he can be trusted not to turn into a hormonal animal around omegas. It’s how he’s made his career as a photographer. That is, right up until he’s in a room with concert harpsichordist Hannibal Lecter and everything goes to hell when they scent each other and can barely keep themselves from ripping their clothes off and bonding right there and then. Seems like they’re true mates and it’s only a matter of time before they give into their urges – so Will, being a decent and respectful alpha, has to get this courtship show on the road before that happens. Well, mostly before that happens. Given the UST inherent to the plot, this is every bit as intensely, stupidly hot as you’d hope, but it’s also a really clever, thoughtful exploration of the omegaverse concept, set in a ‘verse in which omegas are the ruling gender, a nice reversal of the usual a/b/o setup. Plus it has an almost indecently adorable version of Hannigram, in which progressive Will and traditionalist Hannibal attempt to conjoin their lives so that they can get on and shag already! Smart and sexy a/b/o is one of our fandom’s greatest strengths and this is truly just an exemplary version of it.

Space Invader II: A Very Darko Sequel by @devereauxsdisease: A sequel to the utterly wonderful Space Invader (and if you haven’t read it, I’m begging you, go remedy that this instant), this return to Dev’s Spacedogs ‘verse sees Adam and Nigel still ensconced in blissful coupledom. So blissful, in fact, that it’s making Darko wonder if he might want some of that relationship stuff for himself. Cue the appearance of a certain sassy lab tech last seen working for the FBI. That’s right, Beverly Katz is alive, in town and about to rock Darko’s world XD. This is just an utter joy to read, stuffed with Dev’s trademark mix of fantastic dialogue, heartfelt emotion and wickedly dirty jokes. And best of all is her way with the characters, all of whom are wonderfully loveable and who work beautifully together. I spent the whole fic marvelling at the way in which these disparate characters come together and feel like they were always meant to be that way – they make a lovely, entertainingly weird family and are never less than an utter delight to spend time with.

Forgemaster by @llewcie: Valhalla Enchanted by way of the Greek gods now, in this peerless piece of sweetness by the lovely Llew. Char and Ella are the new Dionysus and Aphrodite (in this ‘verse, the gods can retire and be replaced) and live like brother and sister, i.e. bickering, winding each other up, pushing each other’s buttons… They particularly like making bets, which winds up with Ella making Char agree to three dates with Hephaestus, being played in this fic by One Eye. Given that One Eye is unsociable, ragged, and constantly dirty from his forge, Char is less than impressed with his companion and says so… somewhat unfortunately within One Eye’s earshot. So when, despite himself, Char finds himself falling for the blacksmith god’s charms, he’s got a lot of work to do to convince One Eye that he’s worth the trouble! Llew has the charm turned up all the way to eleven in this gorgeously frothy, funny little comedy of errors, with a sweetly vain version of Char melting under the steadily growing appeal of One Eye’s gentle strength. If you need cheering up for any reason, this fic should be your first port of call.

Pure Imagination by @constructfairytales (beforethedawn and Destinyawakened): Stranger Things was one of my favourite shows last year (admittedly it’s no Hannibal, but what is?). It was smart and weird, and as an 80s baby it pressed every last one of my nostalgia buttons, from soundtrack to costume design. So, of course, it was with nothing but delight that I started this crossover AU, in which Will is police chief of the town where young Will Byers goes missing and Hannibal is the psychiatrist he brings in to counsel the traumatised community. And I wasn’t disappointed – this is a fantastic blend of Hannibal’s surreal romanticism with the full-on monstery weirdness of the ST ‘verse, with plenty of unexpectedly but pleasingly fluffy Hannigram at the centre of it. Though it follows the basic plot of ST, having Will and Hannibal involved inevitably shakes things up (Will’s empathy is given a brilliant twist) and predictable this certainly ain’t. Instead it’s fun, thrilling and playful, with at least one story development that genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. And did I mention the Hannigram? Cos, yeah, there’s no slow burn here. Our boys are goners from the second they meet and the intensity of their connection is all kinds of wonderful.

The Estate by @bokuno-jinsei: Amusingly, the tags on this fantastic fic eventually turn into a short plea for Will Graham to stop thinking so much (a plea which anyone who’s written the over-analytical little shit will know is hopeless). Fortunately, Will clearly paid no attention, and so we readers are treated to this charmingly introspective piece of canon divergence. So, Hannibal gets as far as sitting Will at the dinner table in Florence. But, before he can get out his bonesaw, he seemingly has second thoughts and so Will wakes some time later to find himself ensconced in the last place he expected to revisit – Lecter Castle. Where, he finds, Hannibal has decided to change the game between them: if Will agrees to see if they can live together, Hannibal will cease any attempts to change or influence Will. So the pair find themselves as the unlikeliest of roommates as Will wrestles with his demons, his desires and, inevitably, his feelings for Hannibal. Anybody who enjoys intense conversations, brewing sexual tension and Hannibal in waders (yes, really), step this way, you’re in for a treat.

Inevitable by Vulcanmi: I do adore canon divergence. And I have a weakness for prison fics (love Hannigram falling in love while incarcerated). So this fic is entirely my jam. It picks up in the second half of s3: Hannibal is in jail, Will is “happily” married to Molly, and Jack is still desperate to have his pet empath back on board to deal with the Tooth Fairy. Except in this ‘verse, Will decides not to give into Jack and remains with his family, far away from Baltimore. In order to make it up to his former boss, though, Will writes a letter to a certain inmate, suggesting that he offer his services where Will cannot. Of course, it’s not the last letter Will ends up sending to Hannibal. Not by a long shot. And we all know what happens once Will gives Hannibal an inch… (hey, I didn’t mean that kind of inch, you filthy perverts!). Though it starts out as an angsty exploration of Will’s determination to separate himself from Hannibal, somewhere along the way this fantastic fic transforms into a twisted yet adorable romcom, as our murder muffins confront their feelings and try to figure out whether there’s any version of the world in which they might be together. And, frankly, it’s an utter delight to read. One for those (*raises hand*) who like their hurt/comfort 20% hurt and 80% comfort.

Inside the Imitation by @belladonnaq (Belladonna_Q) with artwork by @reapersun: A confession. I’ve never seen The Thing (because I’m a scaredy-cat who doesn’t watch anything that could remotely be described as scary. “But Vic, isn’t Hannibal scary?” Yeah, yeah, I contain multitudes, now hush mango, I’m working). However, I’ve never let ignorance get between me and my Hannigram and so I jumped headfirst into the The Thing/Hannibal crossover which, fortunately, works utterly brilliantly with absolutely zero knowledge of the film. So, once again Jack Crawford finds reason to call upon the services of Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter. Except this time, it’s not in order to investigate the Minnesota Shrike, but a strange case with its roots in a decades-old tragedy in Alaska. Soon things turn weird and monstery and Will and Hannibal find themselves reluctantly (well, as ever, Will’s reluctant, Hannibal’s thrilled) investigating a burned-out government building with something truly frightening at its core. This is thrilling, clever and wonderfully creepy, a fantastic reframing of canon (especially the Hannigram) and tons of fun throughout. I have to admit, I did not see the twist coming in this fic (though that’s possibly because I’m a dim bulb when it comes to plot) and it was delivered brilliantly, turning everything on its head and upping the stakes for our beloved murder muffins. Oh, and make sure to check out @reapersun’s fabulous artwork that accompanies the fic, it’s staggeringly gorgeous.

The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: Volume 2 by @fragile-teacup: A continuation of the marvellous The Spaces Between series, this picks up a little after volume one, with our boys enjoying Argentinian high society. Unfortunately, while the end of the previous instalment hinted at full-blown murder husbandry, it quickly turns out that Will and Hannibal haven’t quite sorted out their feelings to anyone’s satisfaction (you’re shocked, I can tell). Fortunately, we’re pretty much out of slow burn territory here and the idiots manage to get their act (mostly) together just in time for some ghosts to rear their perfectly-coiffed, millionairess heads and throw a spanner in the works. This sequel continues the achingly lovely tone of its predecessor, with romance a-plenty amongst bouts of emotional idiocy and bloodlust. It’s sweet and tender without compromising on the intensity and darkness of our beloved boys and builds their relationship with care and patience, allowing for a believable building of trust and love between them. It is, in other words, a treat to read in every way, so get yourself to ao3 and have at it!

As ever and always, if I’ve miscredited anyone or if there are bad links, please let me know and I’ll correct it ASAP. Happy reading, lovely fannibals!

THOUGHTS ON WANDER OVER YONDER’S STATUS ON THE ANNIES

What a night! I was honestly a bit nervous and excited (well seeing that I was rooting for Wander’s nominations). So here are my overall thoughts.

Best Animated TV/Broadcast Production for Children: ADVENTURE TIME

Best Directing for a TV/Broadcast Production: PEARL by Patrick Osborne

Best Character Design for a TV/Broadcast Production: TROLLHUNTERS - Victor Maldonado, Alfredo Torres and Jules Rigolle

3 NOMINATIONS; 0 WINS

Ouch! Well, so much for trying to sway more on Wander since it’s still cancelled. Well, I guess Disney doesn’t want to bring it back just because it lost all of the Annies.

……………Or…

I don’t think it’s that over, Wander fans. Remember, just because we lost doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. It’s alright that it lost to these three other noteworthy shows that do have much hard work like ours.

Trollhunters getting a few wins seemed a first for a Netflix series (well okay it’s made by DreamWorks Animation, and Anton Yelchin’s death did build its own support system), plus Pearl’s Directing win was pretty obvious since they thought he had much bigger creative juices in exploring different formats including Google Spotlight Stories. And as for Adventure Time, I guess animators and artists liked the more experimental episodes nowadays since it had a stop-motion bit that felt funny and well-crafted (correct me if I’m wrong). So congrats to them, and be sure to thank them and support their works too!

And the MOST important thing to also remember: Disney doesn’t care whether their shows or films win an award or not (but at least a win does boast extra recognition, hence why they focus more on their films like Zootopia and Moana than their animated shows). And Wander Over Yonder NOT winning any of them DOESN’T affect their thoughts on whether it’s still noteworthy to revive based on the wins. They can only decide by the influence of its MONEY, REVENUES, RATINGS, SOCIAL MEDIA BUZZ, and CHANGE OF MANAGMENT if any exec is interested in Wander and the creator as well.

Let’s not forget some things here:

The Annie Awards (as well as many Award Shows) are just a popularity contest, not a big factor in the studios and execs’ thoughts on what to do with these works that get many wins or have none at all. They do however use the wins to boast publicity and morale to the studio and company, but not necessarily on whether to bring it back or not. The money is what the companies expect the most above everyone else. Whether the show makes lots of revenue, they would pay attention to secondary support (the fans, the buzz, etc.). But if not, they know they got other shows to fill in unless something of a financial/big support buzz shows up through mails and petitions plus purchases that they may reconsider a bit.

So Wanderers, don’t let these loses turn you down from continuing to #SaveWOY. And please DON’T send inappropriate comments/messages to the winning artists/animators and shows just because they beat Wander. They’re in the same boat in making animated shows just like the Wander crew as they are into other shows in the meantime. Instead, give them a kudos to their hard work and also support them if you want to.

So let’s move on from the Annies, enjoy the other parts that you may have had a blast seeing one of your favorite shows or films win at least an Annie. Or that their nominations are actually much more than just a waiting list.

But hey, at least Wander still won 3 Annies throughout its original run, including The Breakfast!

"The Big Picture" ain't all that you think it is Julie!

I just remembered Julie Plec saying in an interview that if anyone’s upset about the finale, then it’s them finding reasons to dislike it.. implying that this is the best thing ever and you and I are just being cry babies and cannot look at the bigger picture.

Bitch, I’m looking at the bigger picture and you know what I see?

A show that began and ended with suicidal stefan who right till the bitter end was convinced that his death was worth more than his life.

I see a guy who lived his whole life thinking he’d never find happiness, only to find it and throw it away as soon as he did.

I see a rapist and a murderer with no remorse get every happiness in the world plus redemption and peace in the afterlife.

I see the girl who started the series thinking she’d never be the one, proven right, coz despite the guy of her dreams marrying her, he still couldn’t choose her over death or his brother.

I see a thematic dissonance where the guy who struggled all his life to do good abd be good despite his flaws was screwed over.

I see stefan happy that he’s dead and not fighting to live. I hope suicide hot lines work bitch, coz you have no idea what sort of message this sends.

I see that development is not something that was meant for stefan. He regressed 10000 fold the last episode. He could never move past his demons. I hope this is not anyone’s story.

This is your legacy Julie :

1. You couldn’t honour a healthy relationship because toxic is all you really know and thats what you call epic.

2. You couldn’t let the good guy have a slice of happiness. Good guys finish last.

3. With this narrative you are basically saying, if things are hard now and one thinks it’s not going to get any better, well, they are right. It’s probably not going to get any better.

4. It’s powerful to let go and die rather than fight to live and be happy.

5. Wedding vows mean nothing. Your spouse is always a step below your siblings.

6. Guilt can never be overcome and channelled into something positive.

7. To be a good guy is to sacrifice your happiness. So don’t be good. It’s not worth it.

8. Be loud and abusive, bully whenever you can, it’ll get you everywhere in life.

This is nt me being bitter. This is me looking at the bigger picture, and it’s ugly.

Enjoy your legacy.

Real people do that. I have at least half a dozen real human being examples where they compartmentalize a part of their personality and they’re able to look at their sexuality in a way where they can kind of grin and bear it. One of my mother’s friends, who was in a 20-plus year marriage and had a kid, came out as gay. But he kept it to himself because he comes from a very conservative culture. Besides that, it’s been there in the subtext throughout a lot of Bobby Drake’s modern history, and there are people who do this. That’s the whole point, and that’s the whole value of this series. People do this to themselves to hide a part of their personality in plain sight

I think it’s still important to have this kind of story in existence because the issues surrounding acceptance and love and tolerance are still present. We live in a post-Glee world, where you can be a high school student and you can sing Beyonce and you can get internet famous before you’re 18. That narrative exists and is wonderful, but there are still people who struggle so much with their identity. I dated a guy who didn’t come out until he was 32. It’s a real thing, and there’s value to that story. And that’s what I was always drawn to with Bobby Drake. When the notion came up that I could be writing this comic book, I started looking at the character, and I was like, oh, he’s hiding in plain sight. I’ve done that, not necessarily with my sexuality, but with parts of my personality that I didn’t think people would like. I would keep it down and read the room. I’d distract with humor. I related to that so much that that’s why I just felt like this needed to be a part of the story. And it was a good way for me to also, as an X-Men fan, reconcile this tension with Bobby and his powers. When he had the Apocalypse Seed in him in Marjorie Liu’s run, he became this towering monolith of a monster. There are all these allusions in Brian Bendis’s run about how powerful he has the capacity to become. And also how evil he could become. And I wanted to use all of this and turn it into a story about a hero choosing to be a hero, choosing to live his life and do the right thing.

Goku and Chichi’s Relationship

”Chichi does nothing but yell and nag.”
“Goku married Chichi without fully knowing what he was getting into.”
“Goku is henpecked.”
“Goku does not have romantic feelings for Chichi.”
“Goku sees Chichi as just another companion.”

And so on and so forth. These are things I usually hear people say about GoChi. And you know what, I don’t understand.

The reason I fell in love with the GoChi ship was because Dragon Ball ends with Goku knowing nothing about marriage, but when Dragon Ball Z comes along we see that despite his initial ignorance he manages to maintain a happy marriage. He had no idea what love was in DB, but in DBZ we see that he has grown to love Chichi.

When people bash GoChi, I always think about the part in the Cell Saga where Goku has just recovered from the heart virus. I’m not even talking about just the kiss; it’s everything. That’s the longest the series allows us to see Goku and Chichi together, so it’s the best window we have into their relationship. Plus, Goku has just escaped death at this point, and usually it is during moments like this that people are most honest about their feelings.

And what feelings do they show us? Let’s take a look at the following screenshots:

Goku smiles as Chichi hugs him. He apologizes for worrying her, then proceeds to swing her around. My favorite part is when Chichi tells him to cut it out but ends up enjoying it anyway. They laugh together like teenagers in love, then he accidentally throws her too high into the sky, but when he catches her, they just laugh it off.

I think this is basically a summary of how Goku and Chichi are as a couple. Goku does something silly or stupid, Chichi tries to tell him off, but then she gives in and ends up loving him all the more for his antics.

I think this is how they show affection to each other too. They’re not passionate or intense. They don’t go on candlelit dinners or profess undying love for each other through poetry. Instead, they play in the snow, run around in the rain, and laugh together doing simple sweet things in their simple sweet home in the mountain.

I think this scene also shows how Goku loves and treats Chichi differently from Krillin or Bulma or even his own sons. Have you ever seen Goku act this way around any other character? Case in point, when Goku ITs into the aircraft carrying his friends shortly after this scene, Krillin cries with joy and throws himself into Goku’s arms so fervently that they smash through the side of the aircraft. His reaction is just as powerful as Chichi’s, and yet Goku does not feel the urge to swing him around or do with him the same things he did with Chichi.

Next, is Goku actually a henpecked husband? Is Chichi actually an irrational nagger who cannot accept the kind of person her husband is? Let’s look at these screenshots:

LOOK AT THAT FROWN!

I have this belief that Goku isn’t as henpecked as he seems to be. I believe that he lets Chichi yell and nag because he’s a patient and generally peace-loving person. But here, when people’s lives are at stake and time is of the essence, Goku looks disapproving of Chichi’s stubbornness and looks about ready to argue.

I love this because it shows that Goku loves his strong-willed wife and so he lets her assume dominance in the relationship for the most part, but he also won’t just quietly submit to her when she’s being irrational.

But here’s what makes this even more wonderful:

Chichi reveals that she’s not irrational at all. And Chichi knows her husband well enough to know that she won’t win an argument about this anyway. Which makes me think that she and Goku do argue from time to time; they just don’t do it so publicly like Bulma and Vegeta.

Chichi also shows here that she, despite everything she usually yells about, believes in her husband and in the potential of their son. Goku appreciates this, and thanks her. He understands just how much courage it takes to accept this kind of fate for her family. Master Roshi realizes this too and thinks to himself that Chichi has “nerves of steel”, as befitting the wife of the strongest man on Earth.

Then they just gaze at each other lovingly for a while:

And when it’s time to go, they share a kiss. They kiss for like seven seconds in front of Master Roshi.

If you think about it, contrary to popular portrayal in fanfiction, Goku and Chichi are usually not embarrassed to show their love in front of others.

We see more examples in the Buu Saga, when in front of their friends, Goku tells Chichi that he missed her, when Chichi throws herself into his arms as he is about to go back to the afterlife and he hugs her and holds her hand, and finally when Chichi cries against his chest as they are finally reunited at Kami’s Lookout and he tells her he loves her.

All this done in public, and neither of them act like it’s embarrassing. They treat it as if it were something natural.

Anyway, going back to this scene, the kiss they share here isn’t just a ‘routine’ kiss but something they both genuinely feel like sharing at that moment. How do I know?

Look at Goku’s face right after they kiss. His gaze lingers on her longer and he has this satisfied smile on his face.

And this next part just kills me. Goku goes all serious as he is about to IT away, but just before he disappears, he takes one last look at Chichi. And I’m like, WHOA GUYS, TOO MUCH LOVE, GIVE IT A REST.

But seriously, how can anyone say that he doesn’t love her the way a husband loves a wife?

OK, so I wrote a complaint to the BBC. As I’m not from the uK, I wrote a real letter:

Sherlock Series 4

Dear BBC,

once, you were the beacon of truth and originality. Your shows were groundbreakingly brilliant. As I am a livelong fan of Sherlock Holmes, I was especially delighted by the new adaptation done by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. I followed this series since 2010.

Therefore, can you imagine my shock when I just watched series 4? As I don’t live in the UK, I pre-ordered the DVD and just watched it over the weekend. I loved everything on this series up to The Abominable Bride. But series 4 was not only disappointing, it is, in my honest opinion, pure treachery in regard to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories. Please, let me explain:

Especially The Final Problem has nothing to do with how a Sherlock Holmes story works and it’s a right affront to say that it was adapted from the works of Conan Doyle. because it wasn’t.

No, this is not about canonical purity (like “Eurus wasn’t in the books!” whining). It’s about the structure of the narrative that makes a Holmes story.

Sherlock Holmes is not a magic wizard - he operates by logic. Therefore, his deductions are comprehensible and reasonable. When he explains them, people can follow through (even saying that it sounds easy when explained). The deductions follow logical rules to determine the truth.

Now, by introducing an omnipotent, superintelligent, crazy and therefore unpredictable previously unknown factor like Eurus into the above equation, who, because she’s mentally ill and a genius, is motivated by inexplicable and irrational impulses, the writers literally threw over the board. It’s not a game anymore, indeed, because this is not the Holmesian game as it has been played for decades. It broke the rules, it revoked the contract the writers had with the audience: that when a Holmes story is adapted, the viewer has a chance to solve the puzzle. The lost sister was never foreshadowed in any episode, not even hinted at, before suddenly taking centre stage in the penultimate episode. That, at least to me, is rather cheap storytelling, even cheating on your audience.

Because we didn’t have a chance to figure it out. The writers and the director reduced that beautifully crafted, exciting show to a pile of senseless rug pulls just for the sake of it. There is nothing to analyse, no motivation to look into, no making sense of it. And that is not only true for The Final Problem now, because by carelessly interlocking the Eurus factor with previous episodes, Moffat and Gatiss even destroyed the frame of reference I thought they had established.

Another point I want to complain about, that intelocks with Eurus, is the show’s dealing with its female protagonists. They either sacrifice themselves for the male hero(s) (Mary), are reduced to a sobbing, pining mess (Molly), used in a purely sexual way (Irene Adler) or have to be locked away because they are superintelligent and therefore crazy. Whereas Sherlock and Mycroft were shown to control their mental powers and reign them in to make use of them (Mycroft as a government official, Sherlock at least as a freelancer, albeit with a drugs problem), the sister wasn’t able to channel her extraordinary gift. She doesn’t seem to have got any help, but was just locked away. To me, as a female academic, that says that very intelligent women are also easily bound to go off the rocker because they are too emotional (Eurus apparently killed Sherlock’s childhood friend because she was jealous). I find that depiciton of female genius highly problematic.

And please tell me why the show was marketed with the catch phrases „Miss Me?“ - a hint to Moriarty – and „I love you“ or „Sherlock is in love“? Because Moriarty was only shown in a flashback and wasn’t that important after all, because he was only employed by Eurus; and with whom Sherlock might have been in love didn’t register with me. Certainly not with poor Molly Hooper, or Irene Adler (who’s a self-proclaimed lesbian). Was it the sister he didn’t even know he had? Well, you certainly love your siblings, but I hope you are not actually in love with them, as this indicates romantic interest…

In all, I feel rather let down and a bit cheated by Sherlock series 4. Sorry for throwing that at you, but as I said, I truly loved this show once.

Yours sincerely

This is the reply I got:

On the plus side, it’s not the general ‘NO JOHNLOCK’ response - on the down side, they simply say that you can’t please everybody (true), and, as the series is so hugely successful, it doesn’t really matter if a few people had issues with the series…

Yet I do think that the conclusion is the most vital part of a series, especially if the conclusion throws most of the previous series overboard and retcons large parts of its own narrative.

*shrugs* But what can you do?

@op-norbury

grezzwizard  asked:

Interesting but I think I word my question wrong as I tend to do that sometimes. There is a theory that Chara is the Narrator in the Cannon Undertale game. Meaning that Chara was following Frisk during the game. That what I mean by state. Do you think Chara can become like that in Glitchtale? I find it interesting that they isn't a reference to that in the series or there is but I am a big dumby.

Oh that IS canon in Undertale. Like no doubts, thing is Chara went from being a narrator to a character (pun intended) in glitchtale due to errors.

Plus they don’t have a soul anymore… and they’re in the void… and there can only be 1 DT soul existing at the same time

hello everybody I have an important request! Please Help!

Destiny here! So I decided that I want to sell art at anime expo this year.  specifically

These light up stands! I think that they would be great attention grabbers (bringing more people to your table) and they are battery operated so we wont need plugs! I plan on selling Jojo, Fire Emblem and Touhou (possibly other series)!

My problem is the artist alley tables are sold out and I dont know anyone who is selling. Primary artists can buy secondary artists spots on their table! I was hoping to pay the price plus extra to be able to sell my artwork!

PLEASE share this if its not too much trouble! I’d really like to see how well they do and it would motivate me to start making them again! (these are over a year old!) Thank you so much! If you are an AX artist please PM me!
