Cosplay, Fanart and Plagiarism

(gif curtesy to Mel)

TL;DR: An artist traced (!) my cosplay photo without permission, gave me zero credits, sold the prints at a con and denied she’s ever seen my photo.

First, both of us, the cosplayer and the photographer, want to say that it would never have come to this if the artist would have immediately apologized to us in person, instead of being extremely rude to us and letting things escalate. A simple sorry and taking down the prints would’ve sufficed.

In the beginning of January, being hyped with the new SU episodes, I immediately fell in love with Blue Diamond and cosplayed her. Two months ago, a friend let me know that an artist she saw drew a fanart based on my photo. I was extremely flattered and happy, but also kinda sad the artist gave me zero credits. Us cosplayers and photographers work really hard to get a nice result, and everyone is happy when their photo serves as an inspiration for another artwork. I wrote a letter to her stating that I love her art, but I’d like her to credit me as a source of inspiration (adding the screen shot).

For two months, there was silence. I tried it again a few weeks ago, but again, no response. Okay, what can you do…

Last weekend we had a big con in Germany with a huge artist alley and both of us, the photographer and the cosplayer, attended. Suddenly, a friend came to us and said that there’s a girl selling this exact drawing. We were puzzled and decided to go to her booth and look at it ourselves.

Hi. I hate seeing anyone cry (especially Hobi because it’s heartbreaking), but I think it is important as fans that we remember these people we see as perfection are in fact just actual, regular humans like me and you (just with a lot more social cred and talent).
They aren’t always happy.
They aren’t always sexy.
They aren’t always thug.
And they don’t always wear their true emotions. In fact, most of them wear a facade.
We, as fans, need to remember that no person is perfect, no matter how close you can get, and that these idols are allowed to have human emotions like the rest of us. They are allowed to feel anger, pain, loss, depression and anxiety.
They are allowed to be vulnerable too.
And we HAVE TO LOVE THEM STILL.
Because if you don’t love them when they show you their true colors, you just love the facade, not the person behind it.

THEY ARE NORMAL HUMAN BEINGS TOO AND DESERVE TO BE TREATED AS SUCH.

Dear idols,
Please show us your true emotions so that we may empathise with you and love you on a whole new level.
You don’t have to be strong and perfect all the time.

- Your Loving Fans.

[Seo Byung Gi’s Pop Culture Review] Meanwhile, Just Like a Marvel Movie… BTS is Flying

BTS’ Sky Dome concert was, in one word, enormous. Going from AX Hall in 2014 to Gocheok Dome in 2017, BTS’ concert have risen to a global scale and level.

BTS (Rap Monster, Suga, J-Hope, Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook) began their world tour for their “2017 BTS LIVE TRILOGY EPISODE III in Seoul” on February 18th-19th at the Seoul Gocheok Sky Dome. They will continue by holding 19 concerts in 11 cities for a total of 8 countries: Chile, Brazil, USA, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Australia.

BTS is the 4th singing group to perform in Gocheok Dome following EXO, PSY, and Big Bang. With their recent 2 concerts, BTS had 40,000 people in attendance.

Many reporters flock to artists’ concerts and fan meetings for content. However, it’s not easy for them to sit through a fan meeting. That’s because they’ll be hearing lots of cringeworthy words that are difficult to swallow if you’re not a fan.

On that day, after BTS performed their songs for 2 hours and 40 minutes and with their new song ‘Spring Day’ remaining, they engaged in a long talk with the audience. This was the time with their so-called fan-club named “ARMY”.

On that day, after congratulating J-Hope for celebrating his birthday and as he began to relay his thanks and other words, those words didn’t seem that cringeworthy. The reporters weren’t “ARMY”, but they were able to feel the sincerity that the group was trying to convey. Hearing them say things like, “You guys are the sky and we’re flying in that sky” and “Whenever we read your letters, we think 'So this is the kind of life they’re living’, 'So they have these kinds of sufferings’, and we’re glad that we were able to learn that. From now on, let’s grow our wings and go towards more spring days” made me realize how BTS wanted to communicate.

The concert that day was quite a sight to see. The 5 sequenced videos that were shown between stages were fantastic. While their stage was sophisticated, it also felt like a cyber world from a Marvel film.

The 7 members’ dances were cute, adorable, marvelous, and alluring. They were glowing with health, too.

BTS stages consisted of group tracks, solo tracks, 4-member tracks, and 3-member tracks, but there was still an overall feeling of balance and harmony. A big strength of BTS was that with 7-member idol groups, there’s always a chance for members to be divided into the mains and the subs, yet not of the BTS members were falling behind at all.

They displayed an even bigger strength by being able to command the flow even under such a strong atmosphere. They’re not just being trendy, but watching them run towards their goal and seeing their story of growth unfold makes you want to cheer them now. We want to examine how they overcome their 'Blood, Sweat, and Tears’ from school and the temptations of youth.

Both the beautiful Jungkook (Begin) and his appealing stage and the pink-haired Jimin (Lie) with his blindfolded performance showed that their stages were no easy feats. Suga showed his charms with 'First Love’ through his rebellious yet sorrowful rapping.

Rap Monster’s 'Reflection’, the soul-captivating V’s 'Stigma’, and J-Hope’s 'MAMA'—who projected childhood photos of himself—all showed emotional performances.

In the handsome Jin’s solo track for 'Awake’, a string sound was presented in both the intro and outro. From this performance, you can feel that Jin is good at singing ballads. The lyrics were concretely conveyed.

Regarding reactions that the music video for the new track 'Spring Day’ reminded some of the Sewol tragedy, Rap Monster stated that he’d “leave that up for interpretation to those who watch and admire the video”, also adding that “we have given donations to services that support those affected by the Sewol tragedy and to families of the deceased”.

Although all idol groups grow, I could especially feel BTS’ evolution and identity through their performance that day. They don’t have just intensity. When J-Hope sang 'MAMA’ and when Jin sang 'Awake’, the lyrical and emotional feelings come straight to life.

They effectively combine strength and smoothness, aiming straight forward but also straying, rationality and emotions. That is how they removed the feeling of them being machine-like idols.

All in all, BTS’s strength to push their music along is slowly growing. They are not content with simply directed songs and music videos. They are determined to be a “concept idol” group. Music that internalizes with you and takes the lead, that is the strength they use to push their music and make their storytelling even stronger.

Of the idol group concerts, the performance the BTS showed that day will be one worth remembering.

Picture caption: dark green text on a light green background “Tips on How to Be a Better Trans Ally:
-put your pronouns in your bio. This helps normalize that appearance ≠ identity

-offer to go to the bathroom with your trans friends -ask them whether they want you to use their old name/pronouns around parents/family/etc

-don’t out them without their consent

-if they tell you something is transphobic, LISTEN. Change your behavior. Don’t deny it.

-don’t make a huge deal when you mess up on pronouns/name, correct yourself and move on

-do not ask what their genitals are, no matter how you phrase it. Asking someone whether they are biologically a or b, what they were assigned at birth, this is all the same and its all transphobic.

-understand that no matter how hard you try, you will probably do something transphobic. That’s okay, simply apologize and move on. Learn from your mistakes! We all make them.

-don’t ask what surgeries they are getting or how they have/are transitioning. If you aren’t a doctor to which this information is pertinent to their health, you don’t need to know”

I haven’t done a redbubble update in a while, so this is some of the new stuff.

Also, some other things:

There’s a buckykingofmemes twitter now, which is here, and it updates exactly the same stuff as this blog does, but without the tags.

Would you guys be interested in me archiving some of the asks/answers and storytimes in AO3? I can set up a series or a multichapter fic to do that, if you’d like me to.

A couple anon questions:

(For mod Hel) where do you find all the time to answer these? XD (thank you BTW): Bucky might be the king of memes, but I’m the king of procrastination. Most of the art gets drawn while I’m in class, which is why it’s kinda eh sometimes: no references. The posts happen whenever, and usually I answer asks when I’m bored, and I totally don’t get to all of them. I get like 10+ asks a day. And right now I’m supposed to be studying for the Torts midterm I have on friday, but you can all see how well that’s going.

Hey, mod - Mind if I use the Howling Commandos story in a fic, if I give you credit for it? You are more than welcome to do so with any of this blog content, but please link back to me, and I love when people send me links to their work, just because I love to check it out!

Generally, if you’re sending a message for mod hell-me, not bucky, and you want a response, please sign in! I don’t like to break character on this blog, so I’ll leave them unanswered. Otherwise, you’re welcome to hit me up at hellenhighwater, which is my (theoretically) main blog. Mostly it’s nonsense, but I’m more down with answering anon messages there, since there are so many less. And I swear I won’t go and stalk your blog if you send me a logged-in ask, and you’re always welcome to ask me not to publicly publish your ask if you’d like.

To the rest of you lovely people who have been sending me holiday greetings, thanks! There’s too many of you to respond to individually, but I do read and appreciate it a ton. You’re what makes doing this nonsense fun!

ARMY CHALLENGE!

inspired by jeongeunji’s pink panda challenge and gongchanida’s bana challenge!

small guidelines: you don’t have to make gifs for this challenge, nor do you have to stay consistent with the entire challenge. you can make a text post for one, an edit for another, and a gifset for the third if you like, or you can stay consistent throughout all of them. also, the number next to each prompt (1-4) dictates the number of posts you should make. for example, if you choose to make gifs for your favorite music videos, then you’ll make four separate gifsets, and so on. when captioning things like edits and gifsets, you don’t need to include the number, just the prompt.

please do not use uneditable fantakens/fancams. if they are editable, then please credit them and follow their rules appropriately. you can find editable fancams in this tag on the bangtan tumblr page. (by the way, real recognize real no longer allows editing! it says they do in the tag, but they don’t anymore.)

tag all of your posts with #army challenge so that i (and others) can reblog them! if you plan to partake in this challenge, please reblog it so that others can see it, and please include a link to it in the caption of your posts. i can’t wait to see all of your lovely work~

SimmingwithSaints’ Tire Swing with 1 Pose:

Hey guys so I made a deco tire-swing. It’s not perfect and you will probably have to use an OMSP 125%-150% to make a tree big enough to not have a branch going through the Sims head. Depending on your sliders you have there may be some clipping. The shine that are in my pictures have been fixed in the V2Swing in the Zip! I made one pose for an adult with the swing download, I may make more later and have them in a linked download! I would love to see any poses you make to go with my download so tag me please ! Also in order to see the trees when you zoom in for pictures use cheat: “testingcheatsenabled true” then use “fadeobjects off”

In this download:

-Tire Swing (Decor-Plants-37 §) .package and .sim3pack

-Pose (postlist compatible-preview picture is from blender)

-Animation File of pose

TOU:

Please do not take credit of my mesh

No recoloring my meshes

Do not convert to any other game! (You can always ask me if you can!)

Please give credit if I give you permission.

Do not include the Tire Swing in your download if you make poses for it and please link my blog!

Also if there are any issues please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Boku no Hero Academia vs Riverdale:
Kacchako vs Bughead

So to begin, I’ve never seen an episode of Riverdale so I can’t comment too much on Bughead but I saw this edit floating around Facebook and my mind immediately went to Kacchako when I saw it and read the words. It was so fitting for them so I decided to make my own edit based off of the one on the right. Of course, it’s nowhere near as good as the original but I wanted my own little spin on it :) And I know Bakugou doesn’t look as happy as Jughead on the bottom but I really wanted to use the screenshot of him when he said “Where do you see fragile” since that was such a defining moment for Bakugou and really showed how much he acknowledges Uraraka

(Also, if you know the original creator of the edit on the right, please let me know right away so I can credit them!)

adhdninjachick  asked:

It's the beginning of the month and I work at a big WIC/EBT-accepting store. Pray for us.

I realize the check process for WIC is a pain in the ass and that some recipients are just as bad as some customers paying by cash or credit, but this is very hurtful. I’ve been on food stamps and WIC before. Having to pull out the WIC checks or EBT card when paying is just so awful you have no idea. The judging look from not just customers in line but the cashier as well. Please don’t blame them based on their payment method. Blame them based on their behavior.

I once was buying milk and the cashier said as loud as he could when I was sliding my card “OH EBT”. I wanted to cry on the spot. The lady behind me turned up her nose and he just sneered.

EBT and WIC customers are still customers and there are a variety of customers. We have positive stories here as well as the bad ones. This just revives a whole lot of bad memories for me… -Abby

EDIT Even if this meant they’d be busier it’s still insulting.

I need to take a break…

for the many of you who have been asking about my vietnam war era hamlet ideas: i finally typed up a little something to share with y’all about my future directorial plans. i plan to keep shakespeare’s original text in the production, with minor changes and/or cuts as needed. (the only major cut would be gertrude’s death, i think it’s important for her to be alive at the end, and you’ll see why.)

this production focuses on the conflicts between younger and older generations, american hyper-praise of masculinity and what it means within the concept of war, and what happens when people put trust into political institutions blindly. this production also exploration of sexual identity and queerness, drug use, and how war affects all aspects of life.

(sidebar: these are all original ideas of mine, so if you end up using them, citation/credit is necessary. if you end up doing a vietnam war era interpretation of hamlet after reading this, please tell me, i want to hear all about it!)

If you want to use my artwork...

Please. Please ask first beforehand. I’m totally okay when people reposting my fan arts on other social medias, but don’t crop / blur the watermark.

Secondly, regarding the usage of my oc pictures for RP or repost or personal use, i’m sorry, i do not allow it. Repost with permission, please. Unless if you want to rp as one of my oc, please keep them in character and do not alter their profiles. And of course, please ask first or at least give proper credit.

Third, commissioned pictures are strictly not allowed to be used. They are exclusively for my clients and a part of my portfolio. Please keep in mind, that some people worked so hard to pay artists to make their characters alive.

I know i may seem like very insecure about it. Some people kept telling me “if you don’t want people to steal it, don’t fucking post it” and whatsoever. But i have rights to speak up my mind. I put a lot of effort on every piece of my ocs, and for people to take and use it for their own ocs, i just can’t //sigh. Well sorry for the rant. I have no grudge against anyone. I just can’t keep it for myself..

anonymous asked:

as a person who creates content myself, I do not understand why you're so pressed about your work being posted. If someone reposts mine and just goes credit: then whatever I'm chill with it why are you making such a big deal out of it, nothing you share on the internet is private and of course people will share it around, you need to chill the fuck out

So here I am, trying to get away from all the negativity in this site and on the internet because I have spent months trying to convince myself to not delete this blog and have been getting more reasons to delete for the last few days. And then I came into my blog to find solitude on the one hour I had before my exam and comes this message. To be honest, I wanted to just delete this message and block your ass from my blog, but since you have rudely told me to “chill the fuck out”, so I closed my app instead, walked into campus with a wide fake smile over my face and hoped that I could “chill” within the next hours of the exams so I can respond to you properly.

Now, since you told me yourself that you are a content creator, I need you to imagine this. Imagine yourself creating whatever content you make. I don’t know how long you need to make them, but let me just generalize it by how long me and my fellow writers needed to write. Let’s say you spent almost a full week creating your content - planning, choosing the images and concept of your content, working on them to be exactly how you wanted them to appear, then finalize it with editing. You lose hours of sleep, losing concentration on your class/work, and even think about the content while you’re out with friends - and then you feel the anxiety about posting them on the internet. You spend minutes, hours, contemplating in front of your screen, thinking - “will people like it? Is it good enough? will I have notes?” And then you take a deep breath and click that “post” button, and off the children of your creation went to the surface of the internet and beyond reach of your followers. And then the whole day and the next you find people looking at our content, giving likes and reblog, adding notes, commenting, giving feedbacks and spreading them around more with reblogs. Imagine how you feel. Doesn’t it feel exhilarating? Do you feel good about yourself and proud to see how people react to your creation? Of course you do.

Now come the reposters. Imagine they come to your blog, copy your creation and repost them on their blog/site/page. They don’t ask permission, they don’t ask if it’s okay to repost them with or without credit, and they don’t credit you properly (no links, just names, not even your full url), or even worse, they repost without taking your captions either. Imagine people coming to their blog, finding the content, and then praising them, giving them likes, reblogging the contents on their blog, adding their notes. Do you feel the spread? Do you get the notes? Do you receive the messages of the viewer asking you if you can share more quality contents as the ones they found? No. They will talk to the reposters. They will add the reposters’ notes. Do they come into your blog to give you a praise? No. Because I know that there are people who are too lazy to find source when it is not added, and because credits without linking back does not bring viewers back into your blog as the source. Do you feel good about this? Do you really feel proud having somebody else receiving feedbacks and praises (and probably more followers) of your hard work instead of yourself?

This is what happens to us. That is what we feel. This is what we are up against. Yes, I am well aware that this is the internet. People have easy access on every content being shared throughout the internet, and the only thing that I am asking (along with everyone else) is to be respected. Why is it so hard to respect our preferences of not having our work being distributed without our knowledge? Why is it so hard to respect our wish to protect our work? Aside from this blog, I also create things for a living. I have my work taken, stolen, being rebranded by plagiarists in real life. It sucks. It hurts. But the most painful thing I have to endure is losing money. Now we spread our work and our contents here for free, and the only thing I gain from sharing my contents are people’s feedbacks, the notes, the likes, the reactions and the respects. Nothing more. Now if I lose all of that, what else do I have left? Why is it so hard to have people ask for permission first? Have you not seen content makers asking people to “not repost”, to “not cut the credits on pictures” and to “not delete caption”? Have you not seen gif makers adding their credit on their gifs instead of captions because people repost them without their knowledge? Do you think people would do this if they are okay having their content reposted?

Look, if you are okay having your credits taken away from you and your content, then it’s fine with me. If you’re okay about people reposting without permission and proper credit, then I have no say on it. If you are okay with plagiarism, then please do not attempt to impose your personal preference to us when we are all here trying to protect our work the only way we can. And if you don’t agree with me, then it’s fine with me. Just don’t tell me how to feel or think, because you have no idea what it’s like to be me.
