Pack Hierarchy

As everyone knows there are different “positions” in a dog pack: alpha, beta, gamma/delta, epsilon, zeta, iota, kappa, and omega. I’ve been asked on multiple occasions “How do I know where I fall on the chart?”. Well, here this is a post to help decipher the differences between the four main positions. If your pack is larger, you can incorporate the other positions into your hierarchy and assess the differences on your own.

ALPHA: no one is above them, takes charge, leader mentality, stern, demands respect once it’s earned, most dominant, protective, strong, refined, respects others but will not be swayed from their position, understanding, urges their pack members to explore and learn

BETA: will take charge when need be, loyal, versatile, will allow someone above them (an Alpha) when respect is earned or when they are forced from their position, obedient, independent when alone, reserved, determined, will challenge their Alpha

GAMMA/DELTA: can take charge but normally doesn’t want to, friendly, wise, doesn’t mind sharing their position with someone of equal status, problem-solver, good friends with their equal, fluctuates between dominant and submissive, quirky, unique, usually younger

OMEGA: (there can be more than one omega in a pack) does not like to take charge, shy, playful, energetic, enjoys someone being above them, treats everyone as their superior, can be annoying and knows it, comic-relief, skittish, easily scared, childish

Thiam headcanon where Liam (or Theo your choice) won't shut up and everyone is getting hella annoyed at the rant (even though he's making a valid point) and before anyone says anything Theo (or Liam ) just straight up kisses him to shut him up. And not like a peck like a FULL BLOWN KISS. And shocks everyone into silence. What happens after is your choose I just really wanna see this

OOH WHAT A PROMPT!! thank you SO MUCH!! as always i am totally ready for new hc prompts. i love you all :D

  • when liam starts comparing supernatural things to historical events, stiles gets it. understanding and rationalizing the (pretty wacky) supernatural can lead a person to do some crazy things. human behavior, at least for the most part, is predictable and rational.
  • and a lot of times, stiles appreciates it. liam, for all he comes across as anger anger go go rawr, is one of the more well-read military history buffs stiles knows and when he picks liam’s brain, the connections liam makes are, frankly, inspiring. it’s saved their asses on occasion, when everything they’ve come up with isn’t viable for one reason or another
  • unfortunately, it’s the opposite of helpful when it comes to a plan already in motion.
  • a group of sidhe (which stiles quickly finds out are lydia’s supernatural cousins, which is amusing for about two seconds–or until lydia starts glaring at him for teasing her) has come to beacon hills and they’re starting to kidnap young girls and women as brides, which obviously has to stop
  • but the sidhe never do anything for free: even their information has a price. they’re old-fashioned that way. besides, they’re only ever bound to their word; otherwise, they can and will do anything to convince you to stay, and they’re the absolute masters of half-truths, which makes them dangerous to bargain with.

Wolf pup and Border Collie play date

Nikai the 9-week-old gray wolf pup and Faye the 13-week-old border collie pup had a playdate (filmed June 16, 2014)

The two cute canids met up so that Nikai could benefit from socializing with another puppy. Faye is a perfect date for him - patient, intelligent and boundlessly energetic - she likes to control the toys, but she constantly engages Nikai and is completely comfortable roughhousing with him.

Nikai is the newest adorable addition to the Wolf Conservation Center’s Ambassador Pack. Today, as an Ambassador wolf, Nikai helps WCC wolves Atka, Zephyr, and Alawa open the door to understanding the importance and plight of their wild kin. No longer a pup, Nikai has become a powerful presence in the fight to preserve wolves’ rightful place in the environment.

Yesterday’s fluffy guests for the surprise Lunafreya shoot were in fact WOLVES. You have not been kissed until you have been kissed full on the mouth by a wolf.

@somelikeitblue and I did this shoot with a nearby educational facility/team that uses these animals as ambassadors to educate people - often kids - on the role wolves play in our ecosystem, and to debunk myths about them in general. Logan and Cana are so well-behaved and obviously very loved…I can’t wait to show you guys the end product! And shout-out to Lopti for being a trooper as my human tripod even though neither of us could feel our fingers.
