'I know they are going to die.' This foster father takes in only terminally ill children
The children were going to die.
By Hailey Branson-Potts

Mohamed Bzeek knew that. But in his more than two decades as a foster father, he took them in anyway — the sickest of the sick in Los Angeles County’s sprawling foster care system.

He has buried about 10 children. Some died in his arms.

Now, Bzeek spends long days and sleepless nights caring for a bedridden 6-year-old foster girl with a rare brain defect. She’s blind and deaf. She has daily seizures. Her arms and legs are paralyzed.

Bzeek, a quiet, devout Libyan-born Muslim who lives in Azusa, just wants her to know she’s not alone in this life. “I know she can’t hear, can’t see, but I always talk to her,” he said. “I’m always holding her, playing with her, touching her. … She has feelings. She has a soul. She’s a human being.”

What confuses the rest of the band/orchestra about the instruments
  • Piccolo: How do they manage to hit those high notes without killing their ears?
  • Flute: Why do they hold their instruments sideways?
  • Clarinet: Why are they always complaining about reeds?
  • Saxophone: Why do they keep playing jazz solos at random times?
  • Oboe: Why are you carrying a knife?
  • Bassoon: What are you???
  • Trumpet: How are they so confident in themselves if they don't know any of the notes?
  • Horn: Why are they always so put together all the time?
  • Trombone: Why do they keep acting like 6 year olds?
  • Euphonium: Why are you so offended by being compared to tubas?
  • Tuba: How do you not get bored by having to play quarter notes all the time?
  • Violin: Why do you care so much who's violin 1 and who's violin 2?
  • Viola: Why do you stare at the violins dreamily during rehearsal?
  • Cello: Why are you always out of tune?
  • Bass: Why are your parts so boring?
  • Percussion: How do you manage to play so many different instruments?
  • Piano: How do you manage to play different things with both your hands?
  • Accordion: why
Once Upon a Time adds Jane the Virgin star in mystery role

Once Upon a Time has tapped Alison Fernandez for a mysterious role in the upcoming season 6 finale, EW has learned exclusively.

The actress, who played a younger version of the titular character on Jane the Virgin, will appear in the season finale, with potential for more episodes should the show be renewed for season 7.

Details on her role are being kept under wraps, but TVLine recently reported that the ABC fairy tale drama was looking to cast two roles in the finale: a formerly hopeful-turned-cynical leading man and a mischievous 10-year-old. Fernandez would seem to fit the latter role, while the recently cast Walking Dead alum Andrew J. West would fill the former — though we have a theory on that character.

In addition to her role on Jane the Virgin, Fernandez’s credits include Fresh Off the Boat, Orange Is the New Black, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The Clark Doll Test was created by Dr. Kenneth Clark and his wife, Marmie Clark. It focused on stereotypes and self perception in relation to race. Clark wanted to show that segregation in schools was misconstruing the mind of young African American children and causing them to internalise racism and view themselves as lesser. In the test, African American children ranging from 6-years-old to 9-years-old were shown two dolls - one was white and one was black. They were asked a number of questions such as:  Show me the doll that you like best or that you would like to play with. Show me the doll that is the ‘nice’ doll. Show me the doll that looks 'bad.’ Give me the doll that looks like a white child. Give me the doll that looks like a coloured child. Give me the doll that looks like a Negro child. Give me the doll that looks like you. The test showed that the children preferred to play with with white doll as opposed to the black doll. The children were then asked to colour in a human figure with the colour of their own skin - the majority chose a lighter shade. As well as this, the children gave the white doll positive attributes such as “good” and “pretty” while describing the black doll as “bad” and “ugly”. 44% of the children said that the white doll looked like them as opposed to the black doll. This test indicated that African American children, even as young as just 6-years-old, suffered internalised racism due to segregation. The findings paved the way for an increase in psychological research into areas of self-esteem and self-concept.

This is Aslan! He’s a 6 year old goldendoodle, but he looks like a little golden retriever with a long nose. He loves playing fetch (as retrievers do) - @doyouwondertoo

Hello! So today we are learning about soft frat bro Tyler Paul Seguin aka Segs or Seggy. He is a 6’1” 24-year-old Canadian forward for the Dallas Stars and wears #91. He was drafted 2nd overall in 2010 to the Boston Bruins. He made the roster the first year and his rookie season went on to win the Stanley Cup with the Bruins.

After his rookie season, the next year he lead the Bruins in scoring and then there was a lockout where he played in Switzerland. When the lockout ended, he resumed play with the Bruins who went to playoffs but were eliminated by the 2013 Stanley Cup champions - Chicago Blackhawks. In July of 2013, Seguin was traded to the Dallas Stars.

He’s played for Team Canada in 2009 for the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (Gold) and in the IIHF World Championships in 2015 (Gold). He made Canada’s selection camp for juniors (U18 & U20) but he didn’t make it past camp. He’s been to the NHL All-Star Game 3 times (2012, ‘15, and ‘16).

Tyler Seguin was known as a really big party boy in Boston. In fact he was a bit of a disaster. He missed team breakfasts that he would be scratched for (it’s a meme). There are pics of him partying after the Cup victory and he’s a mess. That’s why Boston included him in their trade to Dallas. However, when moving to Dallas, Seguin calmed down slightly and his partying antics were mainly contained to offseason and team holiday parties, and he’s kind of a hoe too but it’s chill. His friendship with now team captain and shy awkward boy extraordinaire Jamie Benn helped calm him down in my opinion and a lot of other people’s speculation.

He has a very flamboyant and flashy personality but he also has a very big heart. He has 2 labrador retrievers named Cash (black lab) and Marshall (chocolate lab). In 2012 one of Segs’s best friends suffered from a spinal cord injury, so when he moved to Dallas, he started Seguin’s Stars. This foundation is for people with spinal cord injuries and their family to enjoy a luxury suite at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and after the game, Seguin meets with them for autographs and pictures. One time this girl made a poster for warmups that said “it’s my 16th birthday” or something along those lines and she was wearing a Seguin jersey. He flipped her a puck and then after the game met her to tell her happy birthday.

While he knows he’s hot and takes pride in his appearance, Seguin is actually a huge softie and loves his dogs, his mom and sisters, his friends, and Jamie. He doesn’t fight in games most of the time and is very good at scoring goals. He’s also very sassy and boyish and high maintenance but he makes enough money to be high maintenance so that’s fine. He is the epitome of basic white girl, and he’s also really good with kids. In the past he’s been very problematic, but he was literally a teenager and has actually grown up quite a lot and I think there’s still hope for him to be less of a fuckboy because he is growing out of that. He also has an unhealthy love for Justin Bieber. He loves him almost as much as he loves Jamie Benn.

Okay a high school au in which 17 year old Kent Parson being shoved into a closet to play seven minutes in heaven during a hockey team party.

And of course everyone is a little tispy and laughing and Kent rolls his eyes a little, wondering why he even agreed to this, but he takes it all back when the door opens again and someone is shoving in all 6 foot 4 inches of pure muscle that is defenseman Alexei Mashkov.

(And Kent won’t admit it but he’s kind of had a crush on Tater since he transferred in at the beginning of the season)

And OF FUCKING COURSE Tater has no idea what seven minutes in heaven even is so Kent has to explain it to him and the poor guy’s face goes so red Kent thinks he may have broken him. So Kent rushing to reassure Tater that they don’t actually have to do anything (even though he’s definitely disappointed) when Tater grabs his chin to tilt his head up and pecks him lightly on the lips.

(Now its Kent’s turn to go red) and Tater smiles a little at the reaction before leaning back down to kiss Kent again, harder this time.

And the team opens up the closet seven mintes later and immediately like NOPE because “Put your fucking shirt back on Parson!” “Ew why?” “I for sure saw some tongue…”

After doing so many “BS News” articles, I began getting praise from people telling me that Cracked was the “most credible” news source on the internet. This terrified me. Not just because social interaction exhausts my soul, but because I’m probably the least qualified person to get ALL your news from. Until Cracked, I was a dishwasher by trade. I have no background in journalism, and once punched my friend while sleepwalking. I went to film school, for crying out loud.

Not to compare myself to The Daily Show at all – but my horror was not unlike Jon Stewart’s when all the kids “got their news” from him. But despite his disapproval – we still held him up on that pedestal.

So why was Jon Stewart such a voice of reason in modern America? As he himself once described it on C-Span, the media bubble is a lot like 6-year-olds playing soccer: too busy crowding the ball to see the bigger picture. Meanwhile, political comedians had the luxury that newspapers once did – in that they could fully-digest the news and pinpoint the most important narrative. They aren’t smarter than CNN or NBC or Fox, but rather lack the exhaustion of covering every goddamn thing that happens all the time.

And that luxury-turned-superiority made them a more respected source, suddenly elevating these silly comedy shows to president-worthy pedigree.

6 Japanese Actresses who should play "Ghost in the Shell"

(My edit from article on Yahoo Style)

Rinko Kikuchi  -  (picture above)

The 35 year-old actress from Kanagawa famously became the first Japanese actress to be nominated for an Oscar in half a century ten years ago for Babel. More recently, she’s been in Norwegian Wood, Pacific Rim, and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter.

Chiaki Kuriyama  -  (picture above)

The singer, actress, and model hasn’t worked much in America since breaking through as Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill: Volume 1, but that’s because the 31 year-old been busy starring on Japanese TV shows, appearing in films, and even releasing a music album.

Karen Fukuhara  -  (picture above)

You may not recognize her, but the 23 year-old Japanese-American actress (and UCLA grad) will be appearing as Katana in the summer’s upcoming David Ayer film Suicide Squad alongside Scott Eastwood, Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Ben Affleck.

Tao Okamoto  -  (picture above)

Fashion obsessives already know the 30 year-old model for her countless runway and editorial appearances for the likes of Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton, and Ralph Lauren (not to mention the fact that she’s dating The Last Magazine co-founder Tenzin Wild), but the accomplished actress has also appeared in episodes of Hannibal and The Man in the High Castle.

Kiki Sukezane  -  (picture above)

Born and raised in Kyoto, 26 year-old Sukezane is actually the descendant of a long line of samurai, which explains the martial arts and swordsmanship skills she brings to her role as the video game fighter come to life on NBC’s Heroes Reborn.

Kimiko Glenn  -  (picture above)

With Japanese ancestry on her mother’s side, Glenn is of course most famous for her role as Brook Soso on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, but she’s also done appearances on Married, Law and Order: SVU (because who hasn’t?), and Broad City as the annoying cashier at Beacon’s Closet.

Just like others have said, me neither have any problem with Scarlett Johanson as an actress, also I was excited when they announced a film adaptation of this iconic anime character, but this kind of whitewashing is starting to become plain out silly, especially when they actually have a range of Japanese actresses  to chose from.

The Room of Eurus Holmes

I happened upon this rather by chance and then it struck me as highly interesting. Here we see Eurus’s room in the very moment she sets fire to Musgrave Hall, i.e. this happens shortly before she is removed to an institution, right?

According to what we are told this is the room of a 5- or 6-year-old “era-defining genius, beyond Newton”. A girl who taught her older brother to play the violin. Who was “aware of truths beyond the normal scope”. Whose “abilities were professionally assessed more than once”.

So what would we expect to find? Books, for sure. Maps. Scientific equipment. Maybe an early personal computer. A violin, for heaven’s sake!

If she had been professionally assessed more than once as Mycroft says, the experts would surely have told her parents how to promote her skills and support her thirst for knowledge. And there would have been evidence in her room because this is the moment before she leaves.

But what we see is a very ordinary room: a blackboard, a doll’s house, stuffed animals, a bedspread with stars on it, plastic boxes with toys - nothing in this room does speak of the extraordinary abilities of Eurus, it does not reflect what we are told about her in any way. What we see is a lonely little girl drawing violent pictures of her older brother, playing with matches.

So, again, we have the choice between sloppy set design and EMP? Eurus = Sherlock? Would love to hear your thoughts.

88-year-old Russell Dermond and 87-year-old Shirley Dermond had enjoyed 68 years of blissful marriage. They lived in a $1 million, 3,300-square-foot home in a gated community on the banks of Lake Ocenee, Georgia, and regularly attended church together. Before Russell, a U.S. Navy veteran, retired, he had owned a number of restaurants. The couple were nothing out of the ordinary - they enjoyed reading, playing golf, going to the movies, and lunching with friends. This uniformity is exactly why it was so shocking when Russell and Shirley were brutally murdered.

On 6 May, 2014, neighbours made the alarming discovery of Russell, laying deceased and decapitated in his garage. They immediately called police who came to search the house and investigate the shocking murder. Russel’s head and Shirley were nowhere to be found during the initial search. It didn’t appear as though this was a robbery gone wrong as the house was not in disarray and nothing seemed to be stolen. The investigation uncovered that Russell had been bludgeoned to death before being grimly decapitated.

Shirley’s body was eventually discovered on 16 May, by two fishermen on Lake Oconee. She was just five miles from the house which she shared with her husband. She too had been killed by blunt force trauma. Police revealed that they believed the killer or killers came to their home via boat. This would explain why they weren’t spotted on the security camera footage from the entrance to the gated community. Russell’s head was never found, nor were the killer or killers. Police were never able to uncover a motive.
