Braver than you think...

It had been a week since he had resolved to ask her, but a HYDRA attack had sidetracked him. Staying late to finish the reports and accompanying paperwork on a Friday night, Captain Rogers saw that while everybody else was gone, Agent Coulson’s office light was still on. This was his chance, he ran down to the corner shop across from HQ. Coming back up with his arm behind his back, he slicked back his hair with his pocket comb and softly knocked on her door.

“Agent Coulson, do you have a moment to… um… talk?”

It had barely been a week that the two of them had returned to work when Director Fury walked in on their lunch in Pippa’s office and gave them a new secret assignment.

T'Challa, the ruler of Wakanda and sometimes Avenger, had been acting uncharacteristically strange in public, and the country seemed on the brink of civil war– a liability to the store of Vibranium there. S.H.I.E.L.D. could not have that fall into the wrong hands, so they were to take a QuinJet that evening as diplomats and to gather intelligence.

“This is beyond secret, an off the books mission. No one but yourselves will know where you are going. No pilot, no backup, but I know the two of you most likely wouldn’t want it anyway.” Fury gave one of his death stares with his good eye, and Steve tried to be as stoic looking as Pippa was.

“Yes, sir. I understand.” Steve nodded.

Steve heard people talking but couldn’t understand what they were saying. When he identified Pippas voice, He straightened up in the bed trying to arrange the sheets to cover as much of himself as he could. He wanted to hide what he could from her.

“Of course you can come in, Pippa.” His voice was still raw and ragged from his talk with Bruce. He tried taming his hair with spit slicked fingers as she pulled the curtain back.
