Pinoy Love Quotes and Sayings

Pag kasama SILA.
tawa ako ng tawa kasi masaya. Pero pag kasama KiTA, di pa tayo tumatawa.
SOBRANG SAYA ko na!

Pinoy Love Quotes and Sayings

Response to your epic post about why fiction matters

I agree with every single thing you said, Darth.

Maybe I should start by summing up why fiction matters using the words of one Albus Dumbledore: “Of course it’s happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should it mean that it is not real?”

Because isn’t that what fiction is? Something that only happens in the imagination of the reader? Because that doesn’t mean it wasn’t real to the people who read it. That it doesn't matter. Because it is real. And it does matter. A lot.

I give you kudos for the Voltes V mention, because as a Filipino I really hate how people romanticize the Martial Law era and the banning of the aforementioned show really just shows how desperate Marcos was to hold on to his power. But I think there’s a better example out there in history.

I’m talking about Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. For those who aren’t Filipino, they’re novels written by Jose Rizal and are about a guy who suffered misfortunes due to the machinations of Spanish authorities and later returned to exact his revenge on them (really a narrative of how Filipinos suffered under the Spanish occupation). It was banned by the regime, of course, but people still kept reading them in secret. Rizal (and his works) was considered a subversive so threatening that he was arrested, exiled, thrown in prison, and executed at the age of 35. Which, of course, made the books spread like wildfire amongst the natives.

The kicker is that he was that threatening. He never held a weapon in his country’s defense but he inspired the people who did. People the Filipinos considered heroes credit him and his works for their desire to fight back. In fact, killing him just made things a whole lot worse for the Spaniards, who eventually had to sell the Philippines to the US and fake losing a battle with them just so they won’t have to deal with the Filipino revolutionaries.

And it’s pretty damn telling how much he and his works mean to the Filipinos that his novels are mandatory reading in every high school in the country. That he, a writer- not the people who took up arms- is considered the national hero.

The novels were a fiction. But that didn’t mean they didn’t tell the truth. That what Rizal wrote wasn’t real. That they didn’t matter. Because it did.

So of course Marvel letting Hydra!Cap exist got a lot of people riled up. Aside from the atrocious timing (really, on Cap’s 75th anniversary and right after the release of Civil War?), it shows how little they cared about what matters to the fans, and even to the original writers.

Cap is a fiction, yes. But the ideals he represented, the Dream he was loyal to, the river of truth he plants himself upon? Hell noAnd those things? They matter

And now they tell us he was never that guy? And expecting us to like it? What. The. Hell.

And let’s be honest here- they really only did it so people would be curious enough to buy the next issue to see if it sticks (which it won’t). The problem is, if that was the case they could have just as easily done it by listening to what the Cap fans want. #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend, anyone?

Also - I wasn’t gonna hold my breath on the #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend thing - whether it was gonna be Sam, Bucky, Tony or whoever else.  But as so many pointed out, it’s kinda telling that Marvel chose to make their “controversial” move by turning Cap into a symbol of hate - no matter how temporary it is or how it’s gonna be retconned - instead of pushing forward a character change that would represent acceptance and love.

I’m scared that you might hurt me like what others did, i’m scared to fall so deep in love with you, i’m scared that you might find someone better than me, but i’ll take the risk because i really do love you. Even if we’re far away from each other, i’ll trust you for everything you say. I don’t want to think about the future or where we might end up to. I just know to myself that this feelings are for real. I wish that you feel the same way too. I can’t promise you that it’ll be easy, but i can promise you that it’ll be only you, that i will love you until the day you give up on me.
