Fine Arts students from Oglala Lakota College recently put on an Art Show at the Suzie Cappa Art Center in Rapid City, SD. The concept of the show is Misconceptions of the Reservation. Each artist demonstrates their interpretation of this in their own art forms. These photos by Angel White Eyes are of people from the Pine Ridge Reservation who overcome the statistics and break the mold of preconceived notions of people living on Pine Ridge. The show will be up until the end of July.

From the Bernie Sanders rally in Pine Ridge, SD today (5/12/16).

Bernie only spoke for a short time (it honestly felt like 5 minutes, at least under 15 minutes), but he spent a lot of time doing a Q&A with tribal members. The questions weren’t pre-screened, so the results were varying to say the least, but I appreciated that he seemed more interested in listening to us and our critique of the issues surrounding our rez than talking at us.

I didn’t get a selfie with Bernie because he was Too Cool™ (everyone wanted a selfie with him), but I shook his hand and got in a conversation/selfie with Jane. She had a lot of questions about the housing situation on the rez, which was impressive. If she ever decides to run, I’d throw in my vote for her.
