pilgrim statue

My mom while setting up pilgrim statues as thanksgiving decorations: maybe I should get some Native American statues instead of these huge assholes

Unsere Lieben Frau von Fatima

The pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Fatima in Alzen, Germany.

The statue was brought to Germany from Portugal in the Marian year 1954 and was crowned by the archbishop of Cologne. That same year it was taken on a tour through the diocese, a tradition that still continues.

“I looked out this morning and the sun was gone/Turned on some music to start my day/I lost myself in a familiar song/I closed my eyes and I slipped away…”  Central Park’s Pilgrim statue was a gift from the New England Society.  This reminds me of the first record I ever bought.  I had never heard anything quite like “More Than A Feeling” by Boston.  I still consider it to be one of the finest “gifts” to come from New England:)  (Photo taken on April 6, 2016)
