The crown was adorned with 1541 stones in
total, including 1469 diamonds, 36
emeralds, 34 rubies, 2 spinels, 105 pearls
among other stones, but most importantly, a
spectacular 150carat emerald set at the
center. It weighed 4.3 pounds.
It had been centuries since an Iranian empress had been crowned and there was no appropriate crown for the occasion. The task of making a crown fell to Van Cleef & Arpels. Unable to bring the priceless stones back to
Paris, Pierre Arpels had to create this impressive jewel in the
Central Bank’s basement in Teheran.
It was worn just once at her coronation on October 26, 1967.
