Pictured Rocks Cruises scenic boat tour was the highlight of my weekend trip to the National Lakeshore Park in Munising, Michigan. Our charming captain guided us down 33 miles of shoreline, introducing a variety of rock formations, beaches, sea caves and, of course, the vibrantly colored cliffs. The 2.5 hour boat tour was definitely worth the price of the ticket!

The sandstone cliffs get their colors from ground water mineral seepage. The orange/red streaks are from iron. Copper leaves shades of green/blue. Black is from manganese and white from lime and calcium deposits.
