Jemma woke up excited that her soulmate mark had finally appeared overnight. The binary coding etched into her skin that she traced lightly, wondering when she would finally get to meet them and what the coding meant. Instinctively she knew that whoever was her soulmate would carry some kind of science mark on their skin to represent herself. She vowed to keep an eye out for it and take a chance whenever it came.
Skye wasn’t sure what to do the day she woke and finally received her soulmate mark, a molecule of some kind printed on her wrist. Growing up in foster homes and seeing so many of them broken she had long decided that she didn’t want a soulmate. Didn’t need one. She took to wearing a leather bracelet or long sleeves to hide the mark. She took to warily looking at people’s wrist, hoping to avoid anyone with anything computer related that she knew in her heart would show there.
College offered both of them a change. Jemma met Leo, a sweet hearted boy who could have been her soulmate had the sign on his wrist not been a whale and their feelings more like siblings. The two of them still became fast friends and offered to keep an eye out for each other though.
The day she met Antoine and saw the microchip etched in his skin she knew this was Leo’s soulmate and introduced them. This meant that Leo and her spent less time together after that, but Antoine gave her the idea to look at the computer lab where he had ducked into every now and then thinking his soulmate might show up there.
That night she walked by it expecting it to be empty but found someone clicking away. Excited and nervous at the sudden possibility Jemma entered, finding Skye typing away, shirt rolled up and soulmark showing a molecule. Eyes alight and a fluttering in her heart Jemma went to introduce herself but as soon as Skye saw her mark her eyes widened and she packed up to leave, rushing from the room.
Disheartened Jemma tried approaching her in the cafeteria the next day having heard that she ate there sometimes. She tried to explain that it was okay if Skye just wanted to be friends, she just wanted to get to know her. Plenty of soulmates didn’t fall in love after all. Skye got the feeling that this girl was determined when it came to things she cared about and agreed.
The problem coming only after spending months and months with Jemma, being opposites but something binding them together that Skye couldn’t explain. She realizes that she’s in love with Jemma and wonders if maybe she feels the same. Throwing caution to the wind Skye kisses Jemma that day, who merely grins back and says finally.
