pickled cabbage and carrot

Vegan diet so far.. 🌱🍏🍐

Yesterday I had the most delicious salad; avocado, mushrooms, ginger, pickled carrot and red cabbage. Nomnomnom!!!

Today I’ve eaten a single piece of gluten free, wheat free whole grain toast, with soy butter (I think it’s soy, it’s vegan butter) and some raspberry jam for breakfast followed by a soy latte 👍🏻

So I’ve been doing really well. Being vegan again is great and I’m super happy, so YAY!!! 🍠🍉🍏🌽🍆🍎🍑

Earlier at #mopho …

After much deliberation, we got the papaya salad and pickles. Both were disappointing. The papaya salad was mostly lettuce with a tiny bit of shaved papaya. The carrot and cabbage pickles was unlike any Vietnamese pickle.

We didn’t have high hopes that the mains would impress after the starters. But the #bunrieu - #ricenoodles with #homemade #fishcakes in a #tomato and #seafood #soup - tasted amazing and reminded me of my childhood.

Hats off to Mo Pho for the fantastic soup. I’ll be coming back soon but might skip the salads next time.

SoomSoom Vegetarian Bar, 672 Lexington Ave., New York (Midtown East), NY 10022

With multiple locations throughout Manhattan, SoomSoom offers fresh, healthy, filling, low carb, affordable vegetarian Middle Eastern eats. A sandwich and a drink can set you back under $10. The falafel and hummus are made in house and the sandwiches are cooked to order.

SoomSoom is Kosher and the short menu includes pita sandwiches, salads, hummus plate, soup of the day, sides, and beverages. Order at the counter. They’ll call your name when your order is ready. Get your own utensils. Seating is limited to a few stools and tables, plus a counter at the window. There’s a sink and soap in the dining area, which is very convenient and much appreciated.

The salad/toppings bar has many toppings but they aren’t labeled unfortunately. I spotted fried crispy pita strips (get these), cabbage slaw, beets, olives, carrots and cucumber, pickled onions, red peppers, pickles, sauces, baba ghanough, cucumber with tomato, pickled red cabbage, etc. Most of the items are crunchy salads or pickles. I liked every topping that I tried (and I tried most of them).

* Soom Soom original ($7.50 + 50 cents for hummus): pita (white or wheat) with falafel and unlimited salad bar. At first I tried jamming the toppings into the pita but then I decided to add toppings to the paper pocket that was serving as a sandwich holder. I could not see the falafel or taste the hummus afterwards because I added so much! The falafel balls were big and crispy on the outside. The warm wheat pita was super thick and spongy, almost like an English muffin – never had a pita that thick before. The pita was so good. Toppings were good too and the meal was filling because of my topping loading skills. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn’t try so many toppings but I couldn’t help myself.

Mr. Froyo was still hungry after eating his green omelet sandwich but he didn’t go crazy at the salad bar. I was so full that I could spare him a few falafel balls.

Delivery is available.

4 out of 5 stars.

I like to bake the ancho chile panko-crusted fish in a hot oven with a drizzle of olive oil. The fish comes out perfectly crispy.
