Clarke gets cast on a rainy Friday and really, she should have known that the rain was a indicator, an indicator for how crap the day was going to turn out. She’d only auditioned for the play so she could get some extra credit (she expected to get an extra for her role, not this) and now she was the female lead.
It was by dumb luck that she happened to check who would be playing male lead and her love interest.
Yeah, the rain should have given away what a bad day (semester) it was going to be.
I know I’m ahead of everyone else, but today is the 11th for me! Welcome to the future. And I hate dealing with such a massive time calculation between EST and JST. So I figured a handful of hours early would be ok.
I got you for the
Expanse Valentine’s Day Shipper Exchange! I did a photoset with complimentary drabble. The prompt you gave me was with Amos and Naomi and “Something from their history, I’d like to know more about their past and why they’re so protective of each other.”
This takes place before the start of the books and show. I’m filling in an unspecified thing here, but I’m going with when Amos and Naomi are both on the Cant but Holden isn’t in the picture yet.
Archaeological photographer Bellamy Blake is looking for something that will kick-start his career. Comic book artist Clarke Griffin is in a writing slump for her next series. A chance meeting, two lottery tickets and 80 days spent together traveling around the world might be just the answer they’ve been both searching for. That, and their unexpected partnership.
“Seriously, Griffin? You want to base your next comic book off of my boring life?”
Clarke huffed and rolled her eyes, the fingers of her left hand playing with the hem of the borrowed shirt, betraying her nervousness.
“Not your life exactly, just the archaeological part of it.”
Bellamy shook his head and sat on the edge of the bed, leaning against her shoulder.
“That part of my life has been pretty unsuccessful so far. I don’t think that bodes well for your comic.”
“Oh, please, you’re better than you think. Plus, I’ll add in some mystery, action and magic realism, and make the character a female and my success is guaranteed.”
“Yeah?” His smile was wide and delighted, and Clarke was mentally cursing how distracting his freckles were under the low light of the room.
“Yeah,” she said back, her voice lacking the sharp edge she meant to infuse it with.
He leaned closer until she could feel the heat of his bare arms seeping through the threadbare shirt and sinking into her skin, her face and chest flushing because of his close proximity. “I better stick around then; you’ll need all the help you can get with all the archaeological slang.”
Bellamy glanced at her lips and she licked them instinctively, but then he got up from the bed and grabbed the sweater that was on top of his suitcase.
“We better get going then; out next stop is in Italy and I would hate you to miss all my ramblings about the Roman history there.”
Clarke waited for him to go to bathroom before she released the breath that had been stuck in her lungs, embarrassed and mad at herself for thinking that he was going to kiss her. They were just friends, right? Partners even - Clarke was going to take advantage of all his knowledge, and Bellamy was going to have a lot more exposure due to having her character being based off of him. It was a win-win situation for both of them.
She had lasted these past 40 days, she could last another 40 without complicating things between them.
She could deal with some silly physical attraction.
She glances at the shallow, blue water and looks back to him, trying to focus on his grey-blue eyes. He presses his face to her shoulder and attempts to get some sort of reaction, scraping his stubble lightly against her bare skin. She remains stagnant like the water in front of them. Emma always knew something was going to happen, something big and yet she wasn’t expecting this.
“Say something.” Dylan says fighting the urge to wrap his arms around her, but she looks like she wants distance. “Emma, I, I am so sorry I didn’t tell you before.”
“You saved my life Dylan…you risked yours for mine.” She says it stoutly and lets the words hang thick in the air. “You’ve waited this long to tell me?”
“I wanted you to get better and needed to make sure that you were going to be okay. I didn’t want to put the added stress on you.” Dylan says honestly. He reaches to grab her hand. “I don’t want any lies between us. I want you to know all about my past, no matter how dark and scary it may be. I wanted you to know.”
“I know,” She responds and breathes out. She can’t be mad at him because if he didn’t do that, she wouldn’t be alive. Emma continues to think quietly, but inside she has already forgiven him for everything he has done, including saving her life.
She’s seen him hurt more times than she cares to remind herself. And that’s just the times she’s witnessed. The countless dangers his profession parades him through would leave her in a constant state of anxiety if she allowed it.
But this time feels different. Things are in flux. A sense of foreboding hangs over their heads. And so this time she’s given in. He’s kissed her goodbye, they’ve whispered what could be last words to one another.
As the convoy exits the gates she say’s a prayer to a deity she can’t believe exists but he’s sure of. It’s selfish and she doesn’t believe it will do any good. But strangely it comforts her. She hopes he’s found the same peace.
