John F. Kennedy would have turned 97 today. And fifty years ago marked the release of commemorative postal stamp featuring his portrait alongside an image of the eternal flame at his gravesite.

Today on VERSO, we have a story about all sorts of Huntington connections surrounding the stamp, the photograph, and the Los Angeles Times (latimes). Mark Twain is even in there. Have a read.

captions: A commemorative JFK stamp (top) issued on May 29, 1964, was based on a 1958 photograph taken in Santa Monica by William S. Murphy of the Los Angeles Times. The second image shows the stamp with Murphy’s portrait of Kennedy.
