Vanessa Hudgens' Father Dies; Star Dedicates 'Grease: Live' In His Honor

Vanessa Hudgens has announced a heartbreaking loss.

On Sunday morning, the star revealed that her father lost his battle with terminal cancer.

“I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer,” she wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.”

Despite her sorrow, Vanessa confirmed in a second Tweet that she plans to appear as scheduled in Fox’s “Grease: Live” on Sunday, and will dedicate the performance to her late dad.

“Tonight, I do the show in his honor,” she posted.

In addition to receiving a flood of sympathies from fans across social media, Vanessa’s Hollywood peers – including her “High School Musical” co-star, Monique Coleman – also reached out to offer their support.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the 27-year-old publicly discussed her father’s prognosis for the first time while accepting the Breakthrough Performer honor at August’s Industry Dance Awards.

“Last year, my boyfriend, Austin, lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer,” Vanessa said at the time. “Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being.”
