“It’s a confusing terrain, especially for an actress. On one hand, you want to be able to disappear into roles and stories, but the way the world has changes, actors have also been given an incredible platform. Like Coco, actors are artists, and artists are built on the foundation of creating truth and portraying real human emotion…I don’t feel comfortable being a silent public figure when there are so many facing adversity and hardships around the world or [who] have no voices or no one sticking up for them. I don’t believe that having an opinion these day interferes with being an artist; I think the two go hand in hand.”
