“You know the joke that nobody likes magic? Are you familiar with this idea that nobody actually enjoys magic? It’s kind of true, it’s like old-timey feeling, and no-one wants to love them. But do you like having magic tricks ruined for you? Is that something you get off on? Is that what the post post post generation is into, you get off on the deconstruction of literally everything? Is that it? So we’ll just dissect Santa until he no longer exists, until he’s no longer a thing? Those of you who hate spoilers, who don’t like magic tricks being ruined and enjoy Santa, close your ears for a moment.

How many of you have been going to shows here for some time? It’s okay if you’re a poser or a new kid, don’t feel weird. So there are four kids here who have ever been to any show here in the past, and that’s cool. We’re bringing out a whole new crowd. Those of you who have been around for a minute have seen this stage right here and it’s distinct, and, well, maybe if you’re short you haven’t seen it. But this is the church and this looks like it was made for the play area or something, you know what I mean? It has letters, and numbers, and colors; which are things I’m told that children like in those developmental learning years. And this has been here as long as I have been attending shows here, right? I was talking to Modern Life Is War saying ‘Wow, this is really remarkable. We play clubs where from one year to the next it looks like a bomb hit it. How do they maintain this? What a respectful crowd this must be to not ruin this.’ The sound guy looks at me and goes 'We’ve had about twelve of these.’ ”
