Good power plays are often patient. But the Penguins don’t come across as interested in Kessel exhibiting much of that. In Crosby and Kessel, the Penguins have two of the league’s best players on the rush, and they will promote activating this style on the power play, to an extent.
They also prefer that Kessel displays an impulsive nature with the puck. The coaching staff often becomes frustrated when Letang refuses to shoot, instead forcing passes to Crosby and Malkin, both of whom can be demanding.
