Microsoft E3 2015 Briefing: Recap Post

Mod South here. Sorry for dropping out during the MS stream. My Internet went on and off and then died. Here’s what happened:

  • Halo 5: Guardians was of course present. There’s a new huge 24-player mode called “Warzone” which looks insane. Game’s coming out October 27, 2015.
  • Keiji Inafune’s Comcept and Armature Studios are developing ReCore, featuring a female survivor to some sort of apocalypse and her FREAKING ROBOT DOG. Coming Spring 2016.
  • Xbox One will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360. While this is excellent news, I would have enjoyed an explanation on why now and not at launch.
  • There’s a new Xbox One Elite Controller coming out. Sleaker design and a couple additional triggers, plus a Steam Controller-inspired haptic-feedback-powered touchpad instead of a dpad.
  • Fallout 4 on Xbox One will be compatible with PC-made mods
  • Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is a thing! BEST NEWS
  • Something something EA Access whatever
  • Forza Motorsport 6 is also a thing, and to celebrate it a car was dropped on the stage. Videogames!
  • Confirmation on Dark Souls III which would have driven people insane if it hadn’t been so severely leaked.
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division will get an exclusive beta on Xbox One this December. That doesn’t sound right, because it sounds like The Division is coming out some time in the next 10 years, and we all know that’s nuts.
  • Showing some Rainbow Six Siege, which will apparently include free copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2 on Xbox One. Can’t complain when there’s free stuff involved.
  • The developers of Gone Home seem to be making a new “game” called Tacoma.
  • Introducing a new Steam Early Access-inspired system called Xbox One Preview. What could ever go wrong?
  • Announcing Ashen, an indie developed Journey-esque game.
  • There was a Cuphead trailer and you all need to start paying attention to this game because it’s gorgeous.
  • Beyond Eyes, “a game where you guide a blind girl in search of a missing friend by using her remaining senses to visualize the world around her.” Coming to PC and Xbox One.
  • MOBA game thing Gigantic getting a beta on Xbox One and PC (Windows 10) this August. Neat.
  • Remember when Rare was great? Just in case you didn’t, Microsoft’s launching Rare Replay, bundling 30 Rare classics for $30. Seriously though, that’s an incredible deal. A bit sad that it’s like a “Greatest Hits”, because bands only get that when they fade into obscurity, so… We know what that means for Rare.
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider coming November 10. Looking pretty decent. Still keeping that generic title though.
  • To debut the Xbox One Preview program, here’s Dean Hall, creator of forever-in-Early-Access YouTube’s darling DayZ, introducing his new game, ION. Hopefully he’ll finish this one someday.
  • Guess who’s back? Rare’s back! The current one! Sort of. They’re working on their “most ambitious title to date”, a pirate-themed MMO (seriously) called Sea of Thieves. I’m sorry for the cynicism, but I just can’t get excited about it when there’s Yooka Laylee coming out next year, and also “Sea of Thieves”? Seriously? That’s the most generic pirate-related title that has ever been written. Hopefully it turns out good tho!
  • Fable Legends has a character looking like the Dragonborn from Skyrim and, after the “Scrolls” fiasco, I smell a lawsuit.
  • The cat’s out of the bag – Microsoft is developing Gears of War 4, and we’re treated to all its grey, meaty goodness. All new characters featured. Coming exclusively to Xbox One. Holiday 2016. Also coming out, this one on August 25th, is Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, because what better way to celebrate backwards compatibility than HD remasters?
  • And finally, VR! An impressive Hololens Minecraft demo that looks too good to be true, but hopefully is. It’s impossible to describe it with words, so just check the video recap post later on for the full demo.

Pretty strong presence from Microsoft this year. They weren’t kidding when they said this is their strongest lineup yet. Hopefully they’ll deliver on all this
