“You don’t have to walk away for nothing
You know that you’re not the only one
You could be an ocean all around us, or you could be an island on your own
But you know you’re not alone”
Finally got Wastelands in my hot clumsy fingers when I returned home last week and have been listening to this on repeat. This is my favourite track so far and immediately it stood out when I went to the listening party back in July. I think I love it so much because, like many songs that become a favourite, it sort of fits in with how I’m doing now and assures me it’s going to be OK.

TROYE Sivan’s music success was almost inevitable, given his millions of fans online.
But the 20-year-old from Perth is taking nothing for granted as he transitions from social media celeb to mainstream international pop star, notching up his first No. 1 with EP Wild.
“It means people listening to the music, which I think is the best thing,” Sivan told Confidential.
“Obviously I’ve got this online community and every time I put something new out, I’m never sure if that online community is going to translate to listening to my music. This feels really good.”
Sivan, who has modelled for Saint Laurent and appeared in Hollywood film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is poised for huge global success.
Wild pre-sales went to No. 1 in more than 41 countries. And Taylor Swift gave him a shout out on social media when she noticed Wild sitting at No. 4 on the US iTunes chart, one spot ahead of her. That endorsement blew Sivan away.
“Obviously there is help in the fact that she has 63 million followers and it goes out to all of those people. I guess I shouldn’t really be looking to other people for validation but of course I do, and to see it from someone who is arguably the most famous and successful artist in the world right now, it is amazing.”
Sivan hopes he can keep the relationship going with Swift. It has been suggested he will join her on stage on her “1989” tour to Australia this year.
“There hasn’t been any calls yet, but that would be insane, really cool,” he said.
A collaboration with Lorde is also a dream. But in general his plan is to hunker down and work hard, touring to support the EP with an album slated for release later in the year.
“I just love making music so I want to keep creating,” he said.
“I don’t know if I have a tangible end goal, I am just so happy doing what I’m doing. As soon as I stop enjoying it, maybe I will move into something else. Maybe acting, graphic design, something fun.”
With interest peaking in the US and elsewhere around the world, he doesn’t know how he will take the attention.
“I feel celebrities seem to be always so over it and I don’t know if that is real or if that is just them acting cool or something,” he said.
“I don’t know if you can prepare for it, so I’m just going to take each day as it comes.”
