I disagree with the notion that it is acceptable only to criticize an idea and not the person who is conveying the idea. Ideas are not singular concepts or independent variables, they depend on people to express them and promote them. In this sense, I am comfortable with disliking the person who promotes an idea just as much, if not more so, than the idea itself. This point of view will be objected to by people who disagree with the belief that a person’s actions or opinions defines them, but for me, it does. If you express misogynistic attitudes, you are a misogynist. If you spew racist rhetoric, you are a racist. Done and done.
