I’ve been putting these off for so long oh my god.. I hope this makes up for it!!

Alex and Elena had been spending the evening relaxing on the ship, attempting to at least.

The weather was beautiful and the sea was calm, and they both sat peacefully and silently at the bar. Well, Alex was just doing his best not to make it awkward, but, though he’d never admit it, he thought it was very nice to spend time with Elena.

She was everything he could ever want, but he would never say that. He couldn’t even admit it to himself on his own.

Th words ‘I love you’ felt so heavy and meaningful, something he reasoned he couldn’t be feeling now, in a time like this, let alone be courageous enough to say to someone else.

The words hit him like a ton of bricks, and sunk his feelings deep down inside of him, for even he knew that Elena could never love him in return.

“What are you so deep in thought about?” Elena teased gently as she took a sip of her drink.

He shook his head and with a light chuckle responded, “Nothing. Just worried about everyone else.”

She sensed the presence of a lie but chose to not say anything and instead suggested half heartedly, “Maybe you should worry less about them and more about yourself.”

“Oh? Why is that?” He prodded playfully setting his glass on the table heavily and meeting her eyes.

“I care about you, y'know?” She stated and flushed bright red at her own words only to clarify, “I mean, I don’t want you to worry about others too much for your health.”

He smiled and lowered his gaze back onto the drink in front of him, “yeah I suppose so. If I can be completely honest with you that wasn’t what I was thinking about–”

He was abruptly cut off by a handsome man who had tapped Elena on the shoulder, “You’re gorgeous.” He paused and reanalyzed the situation, “Are you two together?”

“Uh– Yes– No– Yeah,” Alex stuttered at a loss for words.

“Mind if I dance with you?” He asked her, extending a hand.

She thought for a moment and then took his hand and with a giggle assured him, “I’ll be right back.”

As they danced Alex reconsidered his options;
Tell her how he feels? No he couldn’t. She’d surely reject him.
Tell her that she’s beautiful? No, that’d just be awkward.
Tell her that accepting that offer made him uncomfortable? Perhaps this could work.

Soon the dance was over, and with it Alex’s drink was gone.

Elena bid her partner farewell and skipped back over to Alex, carefree and ecstatic.

He couldn’t bring himself to ruin that…
But he had to.

“Why’d you do that?” His brow unintentionally furrowed.

“Do what? Dance?” Alex nodded at her words and she continued, “Why do you care?”

“I don’t– I mean– I just.. It made me uncomfortable is all…” he sighed.

“Uncomfortable and jealous?” She prodded and it hit him suddenly that his affection might be all too obvious.

Never had he wanted to hide away as much as he did now.

“Are you okay? I didn’t mean it,” she seemed to be pleading him to say it, to let his feelings explode out of his mouth into words that he just couldn’t form, but at the same moment apologizing for her words and regret in her voice.

“No it’s okay… Maybe it’s due time I just say it.”

That was it. No backing out now. He had done it.

“Say what?” She questioned, not knowing fully the impact of her words.

“I love you.”

“I–… I love you too.”
