e.l.f Masterpost (based off of this request)

As most of my avid followers could probably guess, e.l.f (eyes lips face) is one of my favorite brands. They have good makeup for an amazing price, most single items are under $5! Great deal, right?! While I haven’t tried their face products (other than a tinted moisturizer that was too dark for me), I have heard good things! An anon asked what cheap makeup brands I would recommend, what products they had, and how to apply those products. Heres what I’ve made for you anon! Hope you enjoy :)

  • Primer - I cannot stress enough how important it is to use a primer, trust me, it makes a world of a difference. Depending on what you want your primer to do determines which you should get (I chose the Poreless Face primer, but they also have a Mineral Infused Primer that offers four different tones/priming agents and a Hydrating primer).
  • Foundation - I included the Acne Fighting Foundation and Foundation Stick, both of which I think are great. Later in the post I will go into how to apply these.
  • Concealer - I chose the Studio concealer, because I felt it was the best of what they had. You can use concealer to add extra spot coverage of blemishes and dark spots without globbing on another pound of foundation, and you can also go a shade lighter than your normal shade to use it as a highlighter.
  • Powder - The Studio Translucent Mattifying Powder is shown here because it will give a similar result as the Rimmel Stay Matte powder (which I will never give up). Use this powder to set your makeup and keep a fresh look throughout the day. Later in the post I will go into how to apply this.
  • Highlighter - Using the Studio Baked Bronzer is a great way to accent your brows and cheek bones (see video on the page to get an example). Later in the post I will go into how to apply this.
  • Blush - I chose to show the Essential All Over Color Stick in Pink Lemonade and the Essential Shimmer Facial Whip in Persimmon. You can both of these products on your cheeks, eyes, or lips but I choose to use them as a blusher. Both of these with blend in great, and you just use your finger to apply and blend in. Easy peasy!
  • Bronzer - I picked the Studio Baked Bronzer in St Lucia and the Studio Bronzer in Warm Bronzer. I have the warm bronzer and while it isn’t the NARS Laguna, its still pretty good for $3. I haven’t been able to get my hands on the St Lucia bronzer yet but from what I’ve read its pretty great too. Both give you a nice sun-kissed look without looking too fake-n-bake. Later in the post I will go into how to apply these.

  • Eyeshadow - I included tons (the entire top row in the picture)of eyeshadows from e.l.f, and barely scraped the surface of what they have to offer. I picked my favorites, which are: the Studio Prism palette in Naked, the Mineral Pressed shadow in Lunch Break and Miss Popular, the Studio Single in Sunset and Pebble (not shown), and the Studio Matte eyeshadow. Later in the post I will go into how to apply these.
  • Eyeliner - Depending on what look you want, you can choose between the Mineral Eye Liner and Studio Precision Liquid Eyeliner. Personally, I like kohl or eyeliner pencils (like the first one) because I feel like I have more control, but like I said, it depends on what you want and how comfortable you are with applying it. Later in the post I will go into how to apply these.
  • Jumbo Eyeshadow Sticks - These are great for create a soft smokey eye (Adam Burrell uses something similar to create Perrie’s signature smokey eye) or to use as a base for shadow. Bottom line: you should have a shadow stick. Later in the post I will go into how to use these.
  • Primer - AGAIN WITH PRIMER. PRIME. PRIME. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS CUTE PRIME. This will ensure that your eye makeup doesn’t crease, smudge, or fall out during the day (so you will look FABUUULOUS even when you may not feel like it). Mineral Eyeshadow Primer is shown here.
  • Mascara - I never feel complete without mascara so finding one that you like is so important. While the Studio Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara isn’t perfect, I can’t argue with a $3 price tag.
  • Brows - I prefer to use a pencil to fill in my brows (and I don’t even do that often) so I chose the Studio Eyebrow Lifter & Filler. If you aren’t used to filling in your brows, DO NOT TRY IT BEFORE YOU HAVE SOMEWHERE TO GO. Practice at night or on the weekends when you aren’t doing anything and you can take all the time you need to mess up and try again. And again. And again. Brows take practice.

  • Studio Matte Lip Color in Natural - This is a good alternative to the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and goes on pretty well. Its great for casual parties, school, or going out with your friends! Line first then fill in.
  • Essential Lip Stain in Nude Nectar - Lip stains are great for school or work because they don’t wear off easily, aren’t too heavy, and look natural.
  • Essential Long-Wear Lip Liner in Mauve Luxe or Natural Blush - When using lipstick, its essential to line your lips. This will make your lips look fuller and create a great base for the lipstick, making it last longer.
  • Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Wink Pink - Any color lipstick is great for a night out or date with your crush, and for me that perfect color is Wink Pink. That pinky nude is trending and I absolutely love it! For more precise application use the Real Techniques Retractable Lip brush.
  • Mineral Lip Gloss in sorority girl - Gloss is great to put on top of the lip liner to add a bit of gloss without wearing lipstick. Sorority Girl is another great pinky nude color that will go great with any look!

How to Apply

  • Foundation - You can use a sponge applicator (although I prefer not to), the Real Techniques Expert Face brush (my favorite), or the Real Techniques Foundation brush. When using liquid foundation: pour about a quarter-sized amount onto the back of your hand, get some on your brush, then apply. Build coverage as needed. When using a compact: Use the brush on the compact and apply. Build coverage as needed.
  • Concealer - I use my fingers to apply but you can also use the ecotools concealer brush. To apply with a brush: put small amounts of concealer where you want it then use the brush to blend it.
  • Eyes - Apply shadow with the top of the right brush. Blend out (if needed) with the top of the left brush. Smudge with the bottom of the left brush and line with the bottom of the right brush.
  • Powder/Blush & Bronzer - Apply setting powder with the first brush. Use the second brush to apply blush to the apples of the cheeks or bronzer (if you haven’t used bronzer before check out this tutorial). You can also use the third brush to apply bronzer.

And there you go! I hope you guys enjoy this and if you want to me to do something like this for another brand or line just leave me a message :)

Enjoy and good luck with all your makeup endeavors!
