Man Booker prize 2017 longlist – in pictures
Find out more about the 13 novels in contention this year for the most prestigious prize in the British books world

I will admit, I was initially shocked! I’ve already read six of the 13 books. I don’t know whether to be happy or disappointed at how easy it will be to read the remaining seven before the shortlist is announced!

The only book/author I had never heard of is Elmet by Fiona Mozley, a debut I’m now looking forward to. The more I dwell on this list, the more pleased I am with it. I have used the Man Booker as a tool for discovering new authors, but this year I happened to stay ahead of the curve I guess! These are strong choices and I’m excited to read the rest of the longlist.

*slams fist on table* give autistic characters more diverse roles than “precious confused child” or “socially awkward super-genius” you COWARDS

Wildly Popular Reblog: Even better, how about [the exact trope that the OP was reacting to in the first place played perfectly straight]?

Some Uplifting Words

If you are having a hard time, just think about this for a second. If you were a fictional character, you would have a huge fan base no matter what. People would love you for who you are- love your skill, your flaws, your aesthetic, your looks. People would ship you with other people, remember your quotes, and be obsessed with how relatable you are. The best part of this thought is the fanart people would make- OH GOD THE FANART! If it makes you feel better, make some fanart of you and your own story, because that’s the best one there is. ❤️❤️

I can’t post more than 10 images, but after this, that girl deleted my friend @maepisu’s fic.
Could you help me to share this so people can know how piece of shit this girl is? And this way knowing that you can’t trust her. My friend got her work deleted and there is nothing she can do, I am very angry, this is unfair. And you can also appreciate how she insulted her for not writting english properly being a bilingual, when she just knows how to speak english, I hate this kind of people….
So please, help us sharing this to tell other people about her.
Thank you for your help.

Remove everything that has no relevance to the story. If you say in the first chapter that there is a rifle hanging on the wall, in the second or third chapter it absolutely must go off. If it’s not going to be fired, it shouldn’t be hanging there.

“We can argue about whether that’s the most famous first line in English literature or whether the honor belongs to the opening sentence of Moby Dick or A Tale of Two Cities or 1984,” says linguist Geoff Nunberg. “But there’s no other opening sentence that lends itself so well to sampling, mash-ups and adaptation" than that of Pride and Prejudice.
