The Apollo cabin was quiet except for the sound of a sword slicing through the air followed by a thunk as it got lodged into a dummy. I pulled it out and twirled the sword in my hand. Despite being a child of Apollo, my skills with a bow and arrow aren’t as good as my siblings. Instead, I worked better with blades.

And I was about to attack the dummy again when the door opened. One of my sisters walked in and stopped when she saw the sword very close to the dummy’s head. Vickie, my sister, smiled.

“Remind me to never make you angry.” She told me. I gave her a small smile. “The rest of us are heading to lunch. Do you want to come?”

“Yeah, I’ll come in a few.” I assured. She nodded and left.

Once she did, I sighed and waited for a few minutes. Once I waited for almost everyone to go to lunch, I left the cabin. There wasn’t anyone to watch me as I went to get food. Everyone in the Apollo cabin was skinny, or muscular and fit. Everyone except for me. All the others looked good running around in t-shirts and shorts. And then there was me. The one who avoided eating in front of their entire cabin and everyone else in the camp.

As I made my way to get food, I saw Annabeth who grinned at me.

“Hey (Y/N), are you heading to lunch?” She asked.

“Yeah, but I’ve got stuff to do so I’m taking it back to the cabin.”

“Oh, okay. Maybe dinner?”

“Yeah,” I gave her a small smile, similar to the one I gave my sister, and Annabeth nodded.

I helped myself to food and quickly made my way to the Apollo cabin. However, I noticed that the Poseidon table was empty. And since my attention was there, I ended up walking into the one person who sat there: Percy. I was able to stop any food from falling off the plate.

“Sorry,” I told him quickly. His usual smile was on his face.

“It’s okay. Wait, aren’t you eating in here?” He asked.

“I’ve got stuff to do.”

“Oh, okay. What about dinner? We always sit together, right?”

“Yeah, sure.” I nodded.

“And are we still on for archery practice?”

“I’m better with a sword. I don’t understand why you don’t fight with the others.”

“Because then we can suck equally together.” Percy grinned and I rolled my eyes.

“You’re worse than me.” I pointed out before leaving.

Percy and I were great friends. The two of us always joked around and it was the only time I felt comfortable. Probably because we would always be laughing. And everyone assumed we were dating. Annabeth said we may as well be.

After lunch, I left the cabin and went over to the archery fields with my bow and arrows. Even though I had them, I still carried my sword in the sheaf on my hip. I was at the fields before Percy as usual, so that gave me time to practice. I shot some arrows and a couple hit the target. As I knocked back the last arrow, I heard a scream followed by yells. I dropped my bow and arrows before taking off. It was coming from the one of the walls of the camp to stop monsters from coming in. And then I saw one-no, three Minotaur’s. I pulled out my sword from its sheaf and charged.

There were other campers fighting and defending one another. I charged and was able to swing my sword. The blade went through a Minotaur causing it to explode in dust. Its back was to me and it was a complete surprise to it. I heard someone yell my name and turned to see a Minotaur running towards me. I ducked and rolled out of the way before stabbing it in the leg causing it to fall. I jumped to my feet and plunged the blade into its back. I whirled around to come face to face with Percy. There was a grin on his face.

You were late to practice.”

“Sorry, I was busy.” He told me. His hair was a mess and there was dirt on his clothes.

“Duck!” I told him. Percy hit the floor as I swung my sword. But I was too late. The Minotaur swung its arm and knocked me over. It wasn’t done with me as it ran towards me. I threw my sword up and the blade went through the monster as it ran towards me. Dust fell on me and I lay on the ground, breathing hard. Percy held his hand out and I took it so he could help me up.

“That, was awesome!” He told me. I laughed and shook off the dust myself. As we stood there, everyone came up to us.

“(Y/N), how’d you do that?” Someone asked.

“You took one three Minotaur’s!” Another person told me. I smiled. Percy grinned at me.

“What?” I asked him.

“Maybe we could go on a date?”

“What?” I repeated myself.

“What?”

“You asked me on a date.”

“Yeah.”

“Sure. And maybe we can carry on practicing.”

“Deal.”
