What I love about being human was the simplicity of the first draft.
Much like drawing, Toby started out with a basic outline: three people doing a house share in England. Then he added detail. Three people sharing a house in Bristol, each with mental health issues.
And then he added a little drop of crazy.
Three people sharing a house and their mental health disabilities are portrayed through the supernatural, fuck it, let’s make them a vampire (addiction) a ghost (anxiety and agoraphobia) and a werewolf (aggression).
And thus five seasons of amazing storytelling ensued.
