Running May Be Good for Your Knees
Knees of runners showed substantially lower levels of two types of cells that can contribute to inflammation and promote arthritis.
When people tell me I am ruining my knees for old age I roll my eyes* and explain that regular running can actually help cartiledge to regenerate. I had a knee injury in high school from soccer and I found that it wasn’t until regular running in college that my knee became strong again. It hasn’t bothered me since.
“The widespread argument generally follows the lines that running will slowly wear away the cartilage that cushions the bones in the joint and cause arthritis. But there is little evidence to support the idea, and a growing body of research that suggests the reverse. “
