people the world could use a little more of

moon phases.

new moon:
setting intentions.
active energy.

waxing crescent moon:
resting, focusing.
passive energy.

first quarter moon:
taking action.
active energy.

waxing gibbous moon:
trusting, holding faith.
passive energy.

full moon:
acknowledging.
active energy.

waning gibbous moon/disseminating moon:
receiving, expressing gratitude.
passive energy.

last quarter moon:
returning, giving thanks.
active energy.

waning crescent moon/balsamic moon:
reflecting, resting, restoring.
passive energy.

  • new moon: the moon is literally new. a rebirth. use this moon for intentions to do with fresh beginnings, starting again, cleansing.

  • waxing moons: the moon is increasing its size, it is opening; use these moons for intentions about gaining, growing or expanding.
  • full moon: the moon is at full charge, and can be the most powerful phase in the moon cycle. use this moon for intentions to do with power, clarity, or psychic ability.

  • waning moons: the moon is decreasing its size, it is closing; use these moons for intentions about ridding yourself of something (or someone), or purging.

application to the craft:

focus is the most important aspect of bringing an intent to manifest itself. focusing your energy can be made simpler by working with a compatible energy in the world as you focus that intent.

if the world around you is releasing an energy complementary to yours, it can be easier for that energy to find its way into reality; as opposed to facing any natural adversity.

  • cast passive energy intents in passive phases of the moon. (tranquility, creativity)
  • cast active energy intents in active phases of the moon. (strength, control)

this, in my opinion, is the concept of “the power of thought.” when more than one person thinks a thought, that thought holds more weight. this could explain why people practicing or praying together can often yield stronger, or more immediate results. it is a similar reasoning as incorporating tools and ritual into magick, as well.

your energy is a power in itself. but using the power of the elements, the environments, and the world can serve to add to that power.

The mad bartender.

God I spent countless hours as a teen playing on a heavily modded and roleplay enforced ultima online server. I played Cedric Sartone, simple farmer turned tavern owner who eventually turned it into THE BEST PLACE IN TOWN. It was poppin every night, I was buddies with every adventurer, soldier, mage, druid, and ranger that played the game. After they went out and grinded their skills and did their quests, I was waiting for them with a warm fire and plenty of ale. I’d buy their ingredients and make awesome food and booze (max level cooking!) and was privy to all the gossip.

Little did they know I had a side hobby, I was brewing massive amounts of the most gamebreakingly toxic poison possible. For over a year I roleplayed with these people as a simple barman, pretended to be their friend and confidant, and then during a harvest festival where every player on our server was in attendance and I was payed to provide the food and drink… I poisoned every last morsel of food, every drop of drink and after the reagent delivered his speech and all of these fools raised their goblets for the toast and took that deadly sip, I stepped onto the stage and revealed what had happened. They where all going to die, and die they did.

Now this was a permanent death server (hardcore rpers mind you) and some had been playing those characters for 8 years and there they all were, collapsed and dying. Soon they were all unconscious, as you could only die if you went unconscious three times in one day or if a certain psychotic bartender came and cut off your head… which I did to every player in our group of 38. They were all there, and unfortunately so was I.

Revenge against what, you ask?

So the server had a pretty strict policy regarding pvp and pk, essentially the GMs had to determine if there was in character justification for any instance of disputed player killing, obviously my situation prompted a call for an investigation. I understood those rules from the start though, and I kept a written log in the game where I detailed my character’s building hatred of every single other player character in the world. He would keep track of every little thing from petty slights, to unpaid tabs, but more importantly I adopted the little mannerisms that people roleplayed to develop their characters into the madness of mine.

So Elias was always whistling, well I recorded how infuriating Cedric found it in his journal, and soon he had multiple journals packed full of a thousand reasons an unstable maniac could use to justifiably (re: server rules) murder anyone. The reagent who was also the server admin had some ornate cloak with a custom texture, so I wrote like three pages about how pompous it was, and extrapolated what kind of insufferable prick he must have been for wearing it.

I would just write one or two things down every day for over a year, so I had many books full for the GMs to locate in the tavern basement and read through. The result was that they found my massacre to be in good form and in-character, so the server was not rolled back and instead they decided to reset and implement a new landmass they had been working on. Some people were really pissed off, mostly a handful of the veteran players who had been top dog for several years in their little gladiator arena.

I only did any of it because my first character was murdered by some overzealous asshole who just used his character to project his inferiority complex. He killed me on my second day on the server because I wandered into the funeral of his friend (it was taking place in the middle of town and there was a crowd, of course I was curious) and because I was not invited and he was a known prick it was found justifiable for his character to kill mine because of the emotional turmoil blah blah. So yeah I said f*ck that, and rolled a new character who was ostensibly eager to please and non-threatening. I won.

13 Reasons Why controversy

Because the response to 13 Reasons Why has been so controversial, I’d just like to point out some things.

As explained in 13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons, the suicide scene was shown BECAUSE they wanted it to be painful for the audience to watch, as well as the rape scenes. Not because they wanted to be gruesome or inconsiderate, but because it is REALITY for so many people in the world and a lot of people like to pretend these things don’t exist or shield themselves from the reality of it; they ignore it because they’ve never gone through it, so they don’t care so much. So then when they see these scenes, they will be made uncomfortable and see what people are really truly experiencing and that it is not something that should at all be sugarcoated or ignored. IT IS REAL.

Secondly, for those saying it’s disgusting for them to show these scenes, THERE ARE WARNINGS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODES THAT SHOW RAPE AND/OR SUICIDE TO NOT WATCH IF IT WILL AFFECT THE VIEWER IN ANY WAY. These warnings are given specifically so that if you are not comfortable watching or believe it would cause a trigger, you should not even watch. So the fact that people are bashing the show for showing these scenes in relation to them being a trigger, the warnings are already made very clear in the beginning. They did take this step to make sure it wouldn’t just pop up and be any sort of triggers. The producers knew very well to be wary of that.
The show also worked with a lot of psychiatrists, psychologists, and leading experts in teen-suicide prevention. Though this still may not be enough for you to think they did everything right, they again did have the warnings. They are very aware that it could cause triggers and put some people in danger, but THAT IS WHAT THE WARNINGS ARE FOR. DO NOT WATCH IF IT COULD DANGER YOU. VIEWER’S DISCRETION IS ALWAYS ADVISED.

THE SHOW WAS NOT CREATED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. IT IS TO SPREAD AWARENESS FOR ALL THE ISSUES (suicide, rape, bullying) AND POINT OUT HOW LITTLE THE SIGNS CAN BE AND HOW MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND HELPFUL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE TO THE PEOPLE AROUND US. As also talked about in Beyond the Reasons, they want to promote teaching boys the proper ways to approach a girl and gain permission to become intimate with her, always getting the YES to teach boys respect for women. This is very important because as most people know, it has always been extremely hard for rape victims to get help because of the “what were you wearing” “were you flirting” “did you lead him on” “did you directly say no” arguments that are so wrongfully executed—instead, 13 Reasons Why knows that this is an issue, as somewhat shown in the scene with Mr. Porter as he questions Hannah. So in the after show, they speak about how parents need to be teaching their children more about consent and less about just protecting yourself, covering up, etc. They are aware that the real issue is with proper consent, and that is a very important message to get across.

Coming from someone who has battled depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts, I must also point out that EVERY SINGLE PERSON, EXPERIENCES, THOUGHTS, REACTIONS, ETC ARE DIFFERENT. What one person suffering depression thinks may be different than another. Hannah Baker’s story is very unique in many ways yet also extremely relatable in many ways to many, many people and girls around the world. JUST BECAUSE YOUR STORY MAY BE DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN HERS IS INCORRECT OR LESS/MORE THAN ANOTHER’S. There are a lot of people who can relate to feeling as though you are NOTHING and of no worth to the people around you, just a burden that only disappoints everyone and makes their lives worse. This is a very real state of being and depression and feeling of complete worthlessness that people can reach in their lives, especially some young teenage girls, like Hannah Baker, and even myself, that will lead to suicidal thoughts, attempts, or completely following through with, like Hannah. They believe the world and their loved ones would be better off without them. Again, as someone who has attempted suicide as a teenager and worked for years to fight depression and overcome it, I can say that while the suicide scene did make me uncomfortable and was extremely painful to watch, I was not offended. I knew of the warning at the beginning of the episode, read it, and continued to watch because EVERYONE HANDLES THESE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. I UNDERSTOOD the purpose of including the scene and making it so graphic and realistic. IT’S REALITY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE EVERYDAY AND IT SHOULD NOT BE SUGARCOATED OR SHIELDED FROM THE WORLD; it needs to be made more AWARE OF by those who like to turn a blind eye to it, but it is exposed WITH WARNING. So again, if some feel as though a scene like this would be a trigger, IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT WATCH. Everyone is affected differently and they did not just insert it with no consideration for the affect it could have on those battling the same wars as Hannah.

To say Clay was an easy solution and could have saved Hannah by loving her—no, he could not have saved her by just loving her, that is not what this story is even saying. Hannah does explain at the end of her last tape as she exits the school that some people cared, but she felt it was only mediocre, not enough for her to want to stay and feel NEEDED and truly LOVED. So no, they are not saying Clay could have kept her alive by simply loving her, or that love can save someone, it is much more complex than that. What they are saying is that people can care, but not showing how much they truly care can affect someone in the ways it affected Hannah. It was not just one boy’s love that could have saved her, but the love and care of many people, for them to show that they truly cared about her being alive and DID NOT see her as worthless, an object, just another person on earth. She needed to feel as though they NEEDED her to stay, that they genuinely cared about her as a person and that her life was truly worth something, because she did not feel it was. When Clay says he could have kept her alive if he wasn’t so afraid to tell her he loved her, he simply means he could have given her a sense of hope, a sense of belonging on the earth, that someone truly, whole-heartedly valued her life and her as a human being, not an object.

The actress who plays Jessica also explained that she reached out to a family member who is an actual rape survivor, and she stated that she was pleased that the show was “not shying away from the ugliness” of these scenes because viewers will see what these people really go through–again, another topic that is usually sugarcoated and instead needs to be addressed.

13 Reasons Why is a unique way of telling the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide, and the reasoning for bringing it to screen was MOSTLY to promote awareness and shine light on things that are not talked about enough that the youth suffers every single day, things adults see as “normal teenager struggles,” “small stuff,” “it only feels like the end of the world and really isn’t,” etc. This show is being spread more than even expected, and that is a very good thing for those who are in need of help and have parents or peers that once ignored their problems and will now tend to them.

**an issue cannot be tended to/made aware of/more properly prevented if it is just sugarcoated rather than slapped in people’s faces (those who don’t realize how severe it is) like this show does. it can really change things and leave an impact.

**if you are at risk for triggers and do not feel you are currently healthy enough to watch this show, please take care of yourself and do not watch. or, skip episodes 9, 12, and 13 and read up on them instead. these are the episodes that can be triggers for those at risk, if you weren’t yet aware.

**also feel free to stop by my inbox and talk to me if you need someone to talk to, or just would like to speak more on the subject.

10 Things About Love Only Introverts Understand

People assume introverts are not as romantic and affectionate in relationships, but they’d be surprise to find the opposite. Relationships are almost sacred, and our most significant aspect within our heart. We only open up to a select few. We aren’ snobby, but it is important for an introvert to feel safe in their vulnerability. The open up to people they feel they can trust. Everything, especially emotions are magnified exponentially. Some may say we even love more. Since we don’t give ourselves away freely, it’s hard for us to let go of the people we let in our weird little world. The kind of love we get immersed in is different from your usual high school love story, and takes on a more matured and meaningful depth, and here’s the top 10 reason why being in love with an introvert could be the most special thing you’ve experienced :

So, I get that that ending bit was supposed to be like “there’s a little bit of Ashi out there in the world even though she’s gone” and all that.  I get the logistics and where it was coming from!

On one hand that’s sort of driving the “good things/people can come out of the worst situations” point home (Aku is the worst thing to happen to the planet but without his existence Ashi wouldn’t exist, etc, etc).

On the OTHER hand…

That ending could have used just one or two more scenes.

Bear with me for a moment, okay!  It’s late, I’m sad Ashi didn’t make it through the finale - just let me have this.

So, picture this:

The Ashi Jack knew disappeared during their wedding.  Leaving a grieving Jack, back in his own time with his old family and friends, but still sad.  He sits by that tree, somber.  Suddenly, a little ladybug flies up to him, he stares at it a moment before smiling.  He looks out over the hills as the sun shines on him and the tree he’s under.  The lighting is warm and it’s a strong callback to another scene we saw in the first episode of the season:

All of these are meant to represent Ashi.

Okay?  That’s the scene we saw already.

Now, picture this:

The camera pans out on Jack, and that’s the last we see of him. It’s not mentioned, but he knows in some way or form, Ashi survived.

Then we get a glimpse of the alternate timeline, a future without Aku.

In it, we see some familiar faces - but the entire timeline has obviously been altered.  We see some glimpses of the Scottsman’s daughters - some of them are keeping the ancient battle traditions alive - some of them are builders and engineers.  We see humans and some aliens in a big city. We catch a glimpse of the talking dogs running a museum to educate their kids about their ancestors.  We see a whole lot of things.

And then finally, we catch a glimpse of a young woman with dark hair. Enjoying a walk through a park, listening to birds chirping in the trees.  She gets to the top of a hill just in time to see the sunset.  The tree she’s under is illuminated a soft rosy pink.  The sun shines out over the hills around her, and she breathes in deeply - feeling an undeniable sense of peace.

Finally we see her face - this is Ashi, only in this NEW timeline she wasn’t created by Aku’s magic and a cultist (this time she and her sisters were created by two humans, surprise!).  But she’s still Ashi.  And this Ashi gets to live the life she always deserved to have.

Parallels

wait. @anti-support-group

based on this post, i came up with something.

what if anti is not only afraid of being retaliated, but he’s scared of not being taken seriously and he’s scared of loosing us?

look and listen at him each time.

he mentions that we’ve lost, that this is our fault, that someone was weak, in order to make us feel something towards anti, to make us compelled to keep watching to see what else he has to say. Yet, overtime, we move on to the next meme or video that Jack’s posted up.

After he sees that the Anti hype is low, he strikes up again trying to make sure he’s relevant again. Notice how far he went to keep our attention as to showing up at Jack’s PAX panel.

I think of this like Undertale, where we’re Frisk and Anti is Flowey/Asriel.

Think about it.

Flowey continues on saying how he is the prince of this world and how he’s killed people over and over again, trying to prove dominance and trying to strike fear into Frisk, yet, it doesn’t necessarily work as the player notices the backstory behind how Asriel became Flowey.

He gives up his flower form, taking up all the souls and becoming someone much stronger and powerful and decides to strike more fear into the player, killing them repeatedly with his powers. Much like Anti killing/corrupting the rest of the egos in order to gain more power, becoming more serious and angry at the jokes and foolery we’ve created with his name. (my personal favorite is trash goblin, but that’s beside the point)

‘In the Asriel battle, he tells the player phrases like:

Every time you die, your grip on this world slips away. Every time you die, your friends forget you a little more.”

Then we can do everything ALL over again. And you know what the best part of all this is? You’ll DO it.And then you’ll lose to me again.”

(Also, keep in mind how well liked Frisk is by these people. Similar to how Jack is well liked by us and the egos as well, with Schneeple telling how great Jack was and how he tried to save him. Look how far the support got them.)

Much like when Anti says:

“That doctor thought he could save him, but he was mine! He was weak! Just like the rest of them! I’ve always been in control!”

“This is my world! All these creatures! There are no strings on me.” (much similar to the saving powers that flowey has to the player, giving him an advantage in the game).

Instead referring to the audience, Anti refers to Jack and the people tried to save him.

Towards the end of your battle with Asriel, he tells how he doesn’t want the game to end, he reveals to, you, the player, how alone he’s felt, and how afraid Asriel’s been since the first player, the one you named, died.

Asriel has been underestimated before and hasn’t reacted kindly to it, he’s left little hints that he’s been around and causing trouble throughout the game, he thrives off of this attention and uses this against the player until he reaches his tipping point, and unlike anti, he breaks down because of this power, realizing his actions and what he’s done without a soul.

Anti hasn’t mentioned it, but he is desperate. He’s reaching the tipping point. He’s shown the emotion, rather than directly telling us. He would do anything to keep this attention.

Anti has to constantly reassure to the viewer that he’s always watching and that he’s in control. He knows we haven’t been taking him seriously and we’ve been using his name against him than for him.

He’s afraid of us leaving and ending this game of chaos with us, he doesn’t want to go and fade away yet, and he’ll even killed/corrupted some of his own kind to do it.

Also, keep in mind that Anti called Jack’s body home, and he even tells how “this” is his world, do you think he wants to loose it? With us just retaliating so quick, showing how powerful we really are?

You see, at the end of the pacifist route of Undertale, Frisk/YOU didn’t retaliate. You literally saved him with your attention, and determination to make things right. So, why can’t we do it again with Anti?

Do you think Anti is willing to just let go of something we created with and for him?

So; much like we had to save Asriel in Undertale in order for him to restart and bring everything back to zero, we have to not only save Jack, but save Anti in this as well, to just restart and bring this all back to zero.

The House In the Suburbs

This is a Hotch x reader requested by an awesome anon where Hotch kept his relationship with you a secret from the team because he wanted to see where it went then about a year or two later, hotch, jack, and you, are moving into a house in the suburbs and when Hotch is submitting the change in address to update his file Garcia notices and notifies the rest of the team, leading Hotch to confess the relationship and invite the team over for a barbecue to meet you. This one ended up being kinda long, but I actually really like it and I hope you guys do, too! Please enjoy! :)

“Why do you refuse to tell them about our relationship, Hotch?” You barked, “I know that they’re like family to you!”

“Y/n,” Your boyfriend warned you, his voice low. He could feel the heated argument hurtling toward him, like an eager grenade clip barely hanging on.

You took a deep breath, steadying your heart rate for a moment, “Do you not think we’re going to last? Is that it?” You were hurt and confused, red in the face, doing all that you could to control your rampant anger at your boyfriend.

“I don’t think that at all,” Hotch took a number of large steps toward you. You could tell he was tempted to wrap his arms around your shoulders, but the anger still emanating from you warned him to do otherwise, “Y/n, I really like us. And that’s it right there. I don’t want us to be us and six other people- just us,”

You thought for a moment and Hotch could physically see you softening at his words. He laughed a little under his breath, “Us and Jack of course if that’s alright,”

“Are you kidding!” You couldn’t hide your smile anymore as your anger evaporated, “Jack is literally the best kid in the world!”

“Well,” Hotch chuckled, finally allowing his palms to settle around you, “Then I don’t see a problem here,” And with that, he pressed a kiss to your lips, the argument from mere moments before completely vanished from all mediums around.

“Hotch, babe, do you know if I have any more pairs of socks here?” You called from your boyfriend’s bedroom. It had been over a year since the long-ago fight.

He boyfriend stepped out of the bathroom, still-foamy toothbrush stuck into his palm like a wand, “What?” Hotch thought aloud, “I don’t think so,”

You groaned loudly, “It’s so difficult to have stuff in two different houses! I never know what I have at one and not at the other,” You resigned to stealing one of Hotch’s warm pairs of socks that were three times too big for your feet but would make do.

“Well, why don’t we just get a house together?” Hotch shrugged as if the suggestion was the most natural, easy thing to say in the entire world.

“What did you just say?” You looked up at Hotch in shock, eyes wide in surprise, only one sock slipped loosely onto your feet. His notion was flooded with such excited, crazy spotaneity, it threw you off your feet.

“Let’s sell our places and find one for just us,” Hotch was smirking, enjoying the thought of his own idea. It was rather romantic of him, so spontaneous yet so earnest and meditated.

You were frozen, still in shock. How could such a life-changing idea be uttered with such impossible nonchalance? Hotch was getting uneasy at your lack of response, but within another moment, your face burst into a gargantuan smile. Leaping off the bed, ignoring the cold feeling of the hard wood slapping the bottom of your sock-less foot, you wrapped your arms around Hotch, pressing your lips to his in another fateful kiss. When you pulled away, you were smiling like the Chesire cat.

“What do you say we start house hunting?” Hotch laughed

“I’ll go get my laptop!” You squealed in excitement, jutting out of the room like a train on fire. Hotch’s laughter at your enthusiasm drifted into the hallway. You could hear him finally putting his toothbrush away as you returned.

“Garcia?” Hotch knocked on the technical analyst’s door, pulling it open and entering, “Do you have access to my personal file? I need to update it,”

“Of course, boss man,” Garcia smiled, hot pink lipstick pulling apart to reveal an ivory set of sunshine. She turned to her computer, typing away momentarily before the printer in the corner of her office spurred to life, coughing up his personal file, “Make the changes on that paper then send it to HR, sir,”

“Thanks, Garcia,” Hotch said, marking the paper against her desk.

“Sir, do you mind if I ask you what exactly you’re changing?”

“My address.”

“I didn’t know you were moving!” Garcia cheered, “How exciting! Is Jack thrilled about the whole thing?” She twirled a dancing purple pen between her fingers, feeling the soft ball of fluff perched on the end brush softly against her fingertips.

“Oh yeah, Jack is ecstatic about the whole thing. Of course he’s hesitant about having a woman in the house again,” Hotch answered distractedly, focused on writing the correct words and numbers on the paper.

Hotch didn’t notice the way Garcia’s jaw completely dropped all the way to the floor, revealing a cavern of awe between the fuschia paint of her lips. She had to shake herself out of her astonished trance. Hotch hadn’t even noticed.

“Hold up, please,” Garcia stopped him from writing any farther, leaning forward and snatching the pen right out of Hotch’s hand.

“Garcia! What are you doing?”

“What woman are you moving in with?” The vibrant blonde questioned. When it came to the personal lives of her friends, Garcia’s interrogation skills rivaled that of the BAU’s. The technical analyst’s bright orange floral sweater combated the stern line that consumed her now-unsmiling lips, a curious eyebrow raised.

Hotch backtracked in his mind, flushing white, “My girlfriend,” He answered, accepting his route of no escape from his allied cohort, “We’ve been keeping the relationship to ourselves for awhile. Less pressure and all that. Please, don’t tell the rest of the team, Garcia,” Hotch practically begged.

She leapt from her seat, “Oh no, oh no, oh no,” Garcia shook her head, rising to Hotch’s height with the aid of her much-too-high heels, “Hotch, you know me, there’s no way I can keep a secret like this!”

“Can you at least try?” Hotch pleaded with her, “I don’t think we’re ready to have the rest of the team know about our relationship yet,”

“I’ll try,” Penelope emphasized the pivotal word, drawing it out so that he would remember that she had used it, “But I can’t make any promises. You know how antsy I get when people tell me secrets!”

Okay, so maybe Hotch really shouldn’t trust Garcia with secrets. Nobody should. It took one single day for Garcia to spill the news about Hotch’s secret to the rest of the team.

“Hotch, I’m so sorry,” Garcia rushed into his office nearly out of breath. She panted the words without context.

“What?”

“Forgive me?” The technical analyst cringed at her own words. She still hadn’t confirmed why exactly she was apologizing to her boss. But she didn’t need to because a mere moment later, in walked the exact reason itself. The team.

“So, Aaron,” David smirked, leaning nonchalantly against a bookcase, “We hear you have a girlfriend,”

“Yeah, when can we meet her?” Emily added, getting straight to the point

They were all smirking. Why did they have to be smirking?!

Garcia looked like a puppy that had been kicked. There was no way he wasn’t going to forgive her, but still he couldn’t help but feel helpless as his mind grappled for an answer. Hotch finally opted for an easy sigh, looking wordlessly up at them.

“Oh, come on Hotch! You have to let us meet her!” JJ pleaded. Spencer chimed in in agreement a moment later. Even Spencer was desperate to meet their his girlfriend. There was no way he could keep this contained anymore. No way. All hope was lost. Abort mission.

Hotch sighed again, “Alright, why don’t you guys come over to our new place on Sunday? We’ll have a barbecue and you guys can meet her. JJ, you can bring the kids,”

“There ya’ go,” Morgan smiled, patting his boss on the back, “Now was that so hard?” He laughed.

The agents all filed out in one globular mess of a mob, like a clique of raucous rabbits. Garcia stayed behind, wringing the rows of rainbow bracelets climbing up her arms.

“Sir?” She asked hesitantly, “I’m sorry for telling them. I know how much you wanted to keep it a secret. I’ll make it up to you. I’ll tell you one of secrets then you can tell them! No, I’ll babysit Jack for a whole day! Actually, I’ve been told I’m not very good at babysitting… How about I-”

Hotch caught her off with a laugh and a wave of his hand, “It’s fine, Garcia. Really. It was only a matter of time until you guys found out anyway. If you want to do something to make it up to me, then you can show up at the barbecue on Sunday, how does that sound?”

Garcia’s lips exploded once again, “I’m very excited to meet her, sir,”

And with that, Garcia scurried out of the unit chief’s office without another word.

The barbecue. The day had finally arrived and the freshly painted house buried deep in the suburbs was buzzing with palpable excitement. Jack couldn’t wait for all of his favorite people to visit, overjoyed to see Uncle Spencer and Uncle Dave and Henry once again. The adults on the other hand (you especially) were incredibly nervous.

All morning you were fidgety and anxious, wracked with never ending nerves. Hotch did what he could to comfort you, reassure you that these people were going to adore you, but you could tell that deep, deep down, he was just a little nervous, too.

The sound of the doorbell startled you to attention, and you anxiously followed your boyfriend to the door. As the door swung open, you were met with the sight of a bustling group of seven adults, two bustling kids that must have belonged to JJ trailing behind with laughs mounting jubilantly across their faces before they disappeared into the backyard in search of Jack.

Introductions were made and it became fretfully obvious that these people were nothing if not welcoming, if not friendly. Especially Garcia. Instead of a polite hand shake, the enthusiastic woman opted for an energetic hug, wrapping her arms around you in exuberant welcome.

“I’m Penelope, it is so nice to meet you,” The vibrantly robed woman gushed

“Oh, you, too, Penelope,” You smiled back warmly, rapidly feeling more and more comfortable in the presence of your boyfriend’s team.

“What do you say we take this outside?” Hotch suggestion, his arm wrapped naturally around your waist after several minutes of casual small talk.

Laughs and smiles filled the warm afternoon under the smiling golden sun. The kids laughed and played while the adults had their own fun, chit chatting easily the entire afternoon, seizing their rare opportunity for a stress-less day without work.

Garcia and Hotch barely left your side. Garcia, eager to learn all about you and seemingly become best of friends, and Hotch simply never wanting to leave your side. The food was delicious, a scrumptious summer treat on tired tongues fatigued from laughter, yet another embellishment of the increasingly delightful day.

As the food sitting on dinner plates began to disappear, Jack tried to capture your attention, waving his hands in the air from a couple seats down the table. After a moment of zero acknowledgement, Jack said rather loudly across the table, “Mom!”

And just like that, you felt everybody freeze around you, Hotch’s muscles tensed up as if the muscles themselves were additional bones. Garcia’s sharp intake of breath on your other side was painfully audible. You knew about what had happened to Jack’s mother, what had happened to Hotch’s ex-wife. It was awful, a trauma that would forever change Hotch and his son and everybody around them in so many infinite ways. The name that Jack called you could have scared you, could have changed everything, but it was Jack for Pete’s sake, so you turned to him with a muted smile, eyes soft, “Yeah, Jack?”

You slowly felt everybody around you let out a breath. Hotch’s arm tightened around your waist in a different way this time. He pressed a kiss to your cheek, “Thank you,” He whispered subtly to you as chatter resumed. And once again, all was good.

After awhile, Hotch filtered away to work at the grill to finish cooking off the last of the patties simultaneously chatting with Dave, matching beers in hand. You, Garcia, and Spencer, had ventured into the grassy abyss of the delightful backyard to join the boys in their game, running wildly and falling about in the dewy wonderland of afternoon joy.

“I like this one, Aaron,” Rossi commented, watching as you tumbled to the ground with Jack, Garcia plunging down along with the two of you moments later, “Would’ve liked to meet her earlier but…. she’s still a keeper,”

Hotch couldn’t hid the smile that reached his lips even as he brought his drink up to his mouth, “Yeah,” He said happily, watching you from the homely backyard the two of you now shared together, “I know,”

Have you ever made a move on a straight friend you've had? And if so please do tell :O

That’s kind of a complicated question for me. Since I’m mostly read as a girl by people, it’s usually straight guys making moves on me. I’ve never really tried to establish a relationship or sought after someone who was strictly a straight guy, but I’ve had a lot of guys who were “experimenting” with bisexuality use me as kind of a “best of both worlds”. They just wanted a cute kinda masc person who could fill a more dominant role while still having tits. These people usually ended up having some issue or embarrassment involving me being trans, ending with a “it would be easier if you were a girl” or “I can’t get past you being trans”, because they wanted to date a cute little queer boy but were unwilling to actually help support me when being trans was something I struggled with or, since I don’t pass, it became challenging explaining it to friends and family (like they wanted to date a boy, but they didn’t want to come out of the closet, so they just pretended I was a girl, and didn’t consider the emotional ramifications that would have on me). They would discover that being with a trans guy wasn’t “the best of both worlds”, but since they were attracted to what they perceived as my “female body”, instead of terminating the relationship they would subtly encourage and me and manipulate me into being more feminine and looking “like a girl”, despite knowing they entered into a relationship with a man.

So I guess all that whining was just my way of saying no. I avoid straight boys like the plague. Along with anyone who only likes pre-transition trans guys or trans guys who “still look like girls”.

If you’re someone who only likes trans boys when they look/pass as girls, or still want it to seem publicly like you’re dating a girl, then sorry, you don’t like boys, you’re fetishizing trans men.

Sorry for this rant I just have a lot of feelings about this subject lol

I keep thinking about Flint’s transformation from what felt like a realist when he met Thomas, to the idealist he was at the end of the show. It seemed such a drastic view change, but when you dissect it, it actually makes a ton of sense.

Part of it, a large portion, definitely had to do with Thomas. At first, James was the one to hold Thomas back when he flew too high, the one to point out when things would not work out. He was the one that kept their endeavor grounded.

“Thomas, he sees only the principle. The right. It’s inspiring. It can be intoxicating. It’s why I love him. But you, you see the world as it is, you see its truths and how to navigate them, how to bend them to your will. It’s why I love you. Men like Thomas need men like you, to protect them from the world and that is what I am asking you to do.”

But then he fell, and he fell hard. Or rather, what’s even more than that, he came to believe in Thomas. And perhaps at first, it was just that. But I think in time, he genuinely came to believe in the cause, through that belief.

And I think that’s where the second part comes in; James McGraw/Flint may not have had faith in the world, or England and its system, but the one thing he continually exhibits is his faith in people at their core, as individuals apart from the system. I think that’s where his weakness lies, the loophole to his often somber view of the world.

“But I cannot believe that that is all there is. I cannot believe we are so poorly made as that, incapable of surviving in the state in which we were born, grown so used to the yoke that there can be no progress without it.”

Thomas, Miranda, Gates, Eleanor, Madi, John Silver. Probably others I’m neglecting to mention. It’s what kept him going all this time, time and time again when things got out of control. His belief in them, and the fact that there are good people out there, ones that could do better if given the chance.

“I think you’re a good man. More people should say that. And someone should be willing to defend it.”

“I think that you are the best of us. The two of you together hold the world in balance.”

I think that right there is the ultimate comparison that shows this particular concept connecting James McGraw and Captain Flint. It explains how someone with so little faith in the world, someone that the world has let down so many times, could have such immense faith in people still. And I just think that’s such a beautiful character concept.

Weird Radioactive Products

The discovery of radiation and radioactive particles in the late 19th and early 20th century brought about a new line of consumer products advertised to utilize radium and other similar substances. Such products were claimed to have a wide variety of benefits, such as to improve general health, cure a disease, or improve beauty. A wide variety of products were created and marketed, including foods, clothing, jewelry, toiletries, and beauty products. At the time, people had little knowledge of the dangers of radiation. Rather, many people saw it as a new science that could only improve humanity without any possible negative consequences. Here are just a few of the more ridiculous consumer products that were available back in the day.

Doramad Radioactive Toothpaste

Produced during World War II in Germany by the company Auer Gesselshaft . Containing thorium, it was claimed to kill harmful bacteria while strengthening the teeth and gums. In 1944 Auer Gesselshaft confiscated large quantities of thorium from a chemical plant in France. Allied Intelligence believed the thorium was being used to enrich uranium for an atomic weapons program. Turns out it was just being used for toothpaste.

Batschari Cigarettes

Cigarettes containing radium produced by the A. Batschari tobacco company in Baden, Germany between 1910 and 1915.

Nutex Radium Condoms, circa 1940′s

Vita Radium Suppositories

Produced in the 1930′s, they were advertised to increase energy, vitality,  make a person more youthful, and treat impotence.

German Radium Chocolate, 1930′s

Radium Butter

Radium Beer, Terre Haute Brewing Co., produced between 1905 and 1920.

Little Blue Riding Newt

Based off of this gorgeous, adorable piece of art by @mamin-the-troll
and once the little doodles started coming, I just couldn’t resist writing it. So here it is, Little Blue Riding Newt, the smartest whatever-year-old that ever existed because I don’t know how to fucking write children. Please forgive that quirk.

Additionally, this is now evolving into a full story…so I guess more will be coming soon. XD HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? HOW DID THIS EVOLVE INTO A CHAPTERED THING, I DO NOT KNOW.

hey! :) who are your favorite korrasami writers? i saw you made a list of stories before, but do you have suggestion for writers in general to dive into?

Hey there! Sorry for the slight delay in responding, but thank you for the awesome question!

Hmmmm, my favourite korrasami writers? It’s tough to narrow down since I’ve come across so many of them, but I would choose these people as my top 5 (in no particular order):

Writerleft aka @threehoursfromtroy

paxbanana (I don’t think they have an account on here)

SimplyKorra aka @weissrose on this site

@guileheroine

@sniperct

Most of these authors have written stories for other fandoms too besides Korra (you should totally check some of those stories out if you’re interested).

Almost all of these writers were listed on my korrasami fic rec post as well (sorry to those writers for the little spam!), but I listed them here again for good reason.

They all do such a wonderful job of diving deep into characterization and making those characters feel real and believable. I bet its quite hard to stay true to characters that have been written by other content creators, but all of these listed authors hit the ball out of the part!

This also goes for world expansion (e.g. the Avatar universe) and elaborating more on things such as culture, adventure and/or relationship building through these use of very interesting plot lines!

I could go on about how awesome these people all are but I’m going to keep this post a little bit shorter than my fic rec one :P. But, I’ll always stand by these 5 choices because they are all awesome!

And again, if followers have some other authors to share, go right ahead!

Thanks for the question anon!!! <3

Wonder Woman is the movie every person, not just women, need to see. But for women, it’s especially empowering to see women band together to defeat a common enemy; not necessarily men, mind you. Watching the Amazons fight back to back without fear, that smirk on Antiope’s face as she charges into battle (I see now where Diana gets it), was the most glorious thing ever. They were strong, fearless, equal. It is a movie for everyone to watch, for little girls and boys to understand they can be anything they want to be if they put their minds to it, for people regardless of gender to understand that it’s not about us against them, it’s about all of us working together to help each other grow and be strong. It’s about empowering every single person on this world, it’s about holding onto goodness even when it seems all hope is lost. It’s about being the hope, the change you want to see happen.

In terms of the movie’s visuals, Themyscira was stunning. Pure and shining and bright, it was everything paradise would be. And the stark contrast Man’s World provided towards that beauty made it all the more sobering. And in that little town of Veld, where the people suffered and are poor, there could still be warmth and light and love. The movie had moments of subtle humour which everyone laughed at the appropriate times, whilst I was watching the film. The dialogue flowed beautifully and naturally, and everyone in the movie, whether it be the regal Hippolyta, or the fearsome, loyal Antiope, to each of the Amazons, contributed to the movie’s beauty and hurt and grit and wonder.

Diana’s growth throughout the movie was beautiful, and at the same time, heartbreaking. She went in, thinking all men were good, but ended up seeing the best and worst sides of mankind. In Steve Trevor, who was not perfect, but who tried to do the right thing, she saw the best that man had to offer. And in the end, she learned the heartbreaking lesson that victory in wars are made hollow by the loss of lives. And that even though mankind could be evil, they can be good and noble too. She was so pure and untainted, that I understood Hippolyta’s desire to keep her safe from all harm, but she was meant for greater things.

Gal and Chris are the two most lovely people ever, and to see them bring to life Diana and Steve was such a wonder. Neither of them were the “damsel in distress”; she helped him when he needed it, and vice versa. They were partners and equals, representing the optimal partnership between man and woman, without either belittling the other. Chris’s earnestness made Steve all the more loveable, and I cried when he died because all he wanted was to do the right thing. Gal, lovely, powerful, magnificent Gal, was everything Wonder Woman is, and should be. Her conviction, her innocence, her love for all beings; everything was portrayed to perfection by Gal, and it is an honour to call her the Wonder Woman of this, and hopefully many more, generations. When I heard Patty Jenkins was to be the director of this movie, I didn’t know what to expect. Not being a movie buff, I’ve not watched her previous work (my repertoire is a little lacking, I admit) but the moment I watched her talk about Wonder Woman in interviews, I knew the character and movie would be in safe, reliable hands. And I am so, so glad, that all of the doubters were proven wrong, and what we the fans knew to be true, was indeed a reality.

Wonder Woman may not be the first strong female character, but she is the one who can reach the widest audience, who can teach mankind to hopefully, love and not fight, to be the people we were meant to be. And I like  to think that, with this movie, we can all aspire to be just a little better, to try to do the right thing like Steve, and to try and love more, like Diana.

Anarchy is controversal and stupid it denyes itself. If only rule is that there are no rules than it's a paradox. And let us not get started on the topic of how uncivilazied the whole concept is. So my question is what makes anarchist so diffrent from somebody like caveman? They didn't have any gods, pope, bishops, laws, govorment, presidents, or any tax to pay at all just like your preachings. So what makes you better than them?

From the look of your blog you seem primarily concerned with using short replies to insult people who are trying to make the world a little better. I don’t really expect that you will take the time to read my long answer. But maybe other people do want to read it so I am writing it anyway for the people who are interested. Maybe that includes you maybe it doesn’t.

I could say so many different things to this, starting with the fact that most evidence shows that cave dwelling people actually had very few wars, took care of the sick and disabled and had a far more equal distribution of food and goods than we do today. Historians have often imagined the ‘uncivilized’ caveman’s life to be full of rape and warfare but there is no evidence for that at all. Many died at 30, sure, but that was because they did not yet have the technology to do 21th century health care.

I do not want to get back to a caveman like lifestyle. All I am saying here is: the system we live in now brings out the worst in humanity. When people are not forced into a system of huge wealth unequality that forces people to work meaningless jobs for long hours under bad conditions for scraps, they’re actually pretty nice. When people have to distribute what they have in their own communities, they never come up with a ‘I keep 99% and you lot can devide this 1%’ system. You need the extensive system of capitalism to achieve that.

Anarchy is not just about ‘no rules’, that is a twisted version of the concept that is being repeated over and over again by opponents and has no basis in real anarchism. Some of the main building blocks of anarchism are:

- The systems that are currently creating massive inequality need to be destroyed. That means dismantling capitalism, the state, borders, prisons, cops, and the distribution of money as we know it but it also means we need to dismantle white supremacy, the patriarchy, cissexism, heteronormativity, ableism, neuronormativity etc.

- Distribution of goods should take place based on everyone getting what they need to live comfortably, and everyone working in ways that they want and can do comfortably. We can easily feed the world that way because we’ll no longer have to give 99% to the ultra rich.

- All organization, be it a family, a factory or a whole city, should be organized around group-decision making and should be entirely voluntary. No systems should be set up that you can not leave.

- A lot of organizing involved setting rule together, things like ‘don’t put stuff on the wheelchair ramp’ and ‘everyone on this farm who can physically do the work needs to show up for the harvest because we need to get all the food inside before the weather turns bad’. But these are not rules as laws, they are rules as communication: stuff we agree on together because it makes our lives better. If someone feels that the rules they have set with a community no longer fit there is no punishment, there is a conversation about why they don’t fit and a search for a better way to organize the rules. If someone is harmful to others, there is a focus on protecting victims and simultaneously working with the harmful person to figure out what made them act in harmful ways and what they need to change.

There is more, and there are a lot of groups within anarchism that would emphasize different aspects of anarchism, but as you can see, it’s definitely about a lot more than ‘no rules’.

I once thought that Anarchy was just ‘no rules’ and it frightened me. Without rules, how would a small, neuroatypical, queer trans person like me be safe? How would my friends be safe? But I realized that anarchism is actually primarily concerned with breaking down all the systems that are creating an unsafe world for me and that the alternatives anarchists build focus on working together to create real safety in a way that the legal systems under capitalism can never provide.

New college graduates often ask me for career advice. AI, energy, and biosciences are promising fields where you can make a huge impact. It’s what I would do if starting out today. Looking back on when I left college, there are things I wish I had known. E.g. Intelligence takes many forms. It is not one-dimensional. And not as important as I used to think. I also have one big regret: When I left school, I knew little about the world’s worst inequities. Took me decades to learn. You know more than I did when I was your age. You can start fighting inequity, whether down the street or around the world, sooner. Meanwhile, surround yourself with people who challenge you, teach you, and push you to be your best self. Like Warren Buffet, I measure my happiness by whether people close to me are happy and love me, and by the difference I make for others. If I could give each of you a graduation present, it would be this– the most inspiring book I’ve ever read: The Better Angels of Our Nature. Steven Pinker shows how the world is getting better. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. This is the most peaceful time in human history. That matters because if you think the world is getting better, you want to spread the progress to more people and places. It doesn’t mean you ignore the serious problems we face. It just means you believe they can be solved. This is the core of my worldview. It sustains me in tough times and is the reason I love my work. I think it can do the same for you.

This is an amazing time to be alive. I hope you make the most of it.

An open letter to my fellows.

My brothers and sisters,
I wish we wouldn’t look for reasons to dislike people who don’t believe what we believe.
I wish we would instead seeks ways we can invite them in on this love, truth, and joy.
I wish that we would focus on inclusion rather than exclusion.
I wish that we could act a little more like the Savior that limited Himself for the sake of outsiders.
I wish we would let go of our pride and embrace one another.
I wish we would stop acting like this is about “us vs. them” when in reality it’s “us and them vs. the world and its ways”.
I wish we would be less concerned about being right and more concerned about being righteous like Jesus was.
I wish we would remember the humility of Jesus in every interaction and the gentleness in which He handled “them”.
I wish we would stop before we speak to ask ourselves “Would Jesus say this to them?”
I wish we would try to see Jesus in the eyes of everyone who doesn’t look, act, believe, or think like we do.
I wish because I wish to be the same way Jesus was.
I wish because I fail daily and I know I’m not alone.
I wish we would remember how low we were before Jesus saved us so we could be kinder to those who are now at the bottom.
I wish to see more Jesus in the world.
I wish to see more Jesus in me.
