people seem to be doing these

maniacaltoaster  asked:

Do you think it's kinda weird that even though the characters in Villainous don't TECHNICALLY have good designs, while that kind of thing destroys other cartoons, in this one, it seems to work in its favor? Like, they look ridiculous, over the top, and crazy, but that feels like exactly what they're supposed to look like.

oh sweetheart let me tell you a little secret

the people who genuinely think the Villainous character designs are bad don’t know a damn thing about designing characters for animation

STRAP IN FOLKS IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER RANT LESSON ABOUT ANIMATION CHARACTER DESIGN WITH NOVA (brought to you by SCAD: “I pay $35,000 a year to learn how to make cartoons so trust me I know what I’m talking about”)

The first thing any character design class (including the one I took) will teach you is “have a strong silhouette”

You can probably recognize almost if not every single one of these characters just from their outlines! So let’s take a look at the silhouettes of the Villainous cast…

HOLY SMOKES THEY ARE HELLA DISTINCTIVE!!! And here we even see what is probably the design reason for Dr. Flug’s paper bag and Demencia’s huge fluffy ponytail - they add to the strength of their silhouettes immensely.

Now let’s examine both the shape language of the characters AND how they’re likely divided in terms of their digital puppet rigs (as Villainous appears to use both the hand drawn and rigging techniques), because the former is the second thing any character design class will teach you and the latter is incredibly important to the modern digital 2D animation process. (Apologies if my rig estimates are off, I haven’t had as much experience with 2D rigging as I have with hand drawn.)

Black Hat has the most variety out of the cast, but broken up he’s really just a combination of rectangles, triangles and one or two circles. His hat is also kind of a shape in and of itself, one that comes very naturally when drawing his head. Like a lot of villain characters his sharpness is highly emphasized.

Dr. Flug is ALL about squares and skinny rectangles, with his only rounded shapes being his eyes and shoes. Normally when you see boxy characters they’re on the very masculine or muscular side, meant to seem strong or imposing, but Flug is a wimpy, scrawny twig. That’s really unorthodox and something I like a lot about his look.

What’s super interesting about Demencia is that next to 5.0.5, she has the most circles and rounded shapes. Sharpness is added in her details which makes her design look a lot more complex than it really is. What’s great about digital animation and 2D rigging is it makes characters who have a lot of specific details like her much simpler to animate, so she really isn’t impractical at all provided you’re animating her using a computer.

And finally we have Beariplier Markibear 5.0.5, who I’m sure surprises no one by being a big old round baby full of circles. His nose and snout are of course triangles though. I like how he’s the most intentionally simple out of the cast, even going so far as to have a different eye style that almost makes him look like something out of an ultra-cutesy anime. He doesn’t fit in with and stands out a lot from the others, which is entirely the point.

To sum up, the Villainous characters are both simple enough to animate on a budget/deadline and interesting looking enough to want to watch, the perfect combination for modern 2D digital TV animation. These designs were MADE for a 2017 Cartoon Network show in every sense, with just enough early 2000s influence to feel fresh and new as well as classic and nostalgic. I want these guys to represent and become iconic of CN the same way Finn, Jake, Mordecai and Rigby have.

i hate when straight women w short haircuts come into my salon and start joking about having a lesbian haircut/requesting short hair that “doesn’t make them look like a lesbian LOL”

today a straight woman sat down and showed me the picture of the haircut she wanted and she was like “i showed this picture to my husband and he was like ‘wow are you gonna get a girlfriend now’ haha. i love him he’s so ridiculous”

i never know what to say. it feels weird, because i know they say these things to me under the assumption that i’m straight. i don’t know how i’m supposed to respond. “oh don’t worry, you definitely don’t look like a lesbian!” or “omg don’t worry i won’t give you a LESBIAN looking haircut haha”

i can’t just out myself and play along. i do everything in my power to prevent outing myself to any of my clients.

and it feels like some cruel joke is being played on me, like this is straight humor that women laugh about behind our backs. i mean i know it is. it’s just weird being a part of it. i don’t know how to ask straight women to stop joking about butch lesbian haircuts while they’re in my chair. i don’t know what to do when straight women laugh about looking like a lesbian, i don’t really know how to take that, like if it’s a joke at the expense women like me or just harmless commentary. i don’t know what to say, and i can’t bring myself to laugh along with them.

it’s not a subject i want to talk about. i know that makes me sensitive, but i’ve been through a lot of very traumatic experiences because i’m gay. it’s humiliating to perform a service for straight women who seem to think there’s something funny about people daring to think they might be gay

transcript of the speech i gave at Vassar’s black baccalaureate service

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, honored guests, and the Vassar class of 2017.
Just saying that aloud made me feel old. Class of 2017? Most of y'all were born after dark-skinned Aunt Viv left the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. That’s wild.

I want to first thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special moment in your lives. I am honored, privileged, and a bit in disbelief that you asked me of all people to give this address. I try not to have feelings, and I’m going to do my best not to cry today, but no promises.

I’m here to stand in the gap between you and your parents and guardians and any other elders in your lives that you stopped listening to because you thought they were wack and out of touch. I remember being in your shoes not TOO long ago, and it is my fervent prayer that something that I say here today will help you avoid some of the mess I went through.
To be honest I’m a little nervous, but I figured there was no way could this be worse than when Betsy DeVos went down to Bethune-Cookman, so let’s get started.

As you transition to life after Vassar the changes will be both inevitable and swift, so I’d like to begin by giving you some well-intentioned advice and warning you about the continued process of becoming an adult.

Some long thoughts on a few #Gates

Right, I’m back and plan on reopening my asks soon-ish. Before I do that, though, I just want to address a few of the big dramas that unfolded in my absence. This is mainly so that I won’t end up addressing these questions through various ask replies, so if I don’t respond to your message it’s probably because I’ve said the last thing I’m going to say about it here. Onward!

On #RomanceGate

As we have previously established thanks to a tweet from David Kamp with the full, unedited transcript of the excerpt of the interview pertinent to romance, the published Vanity Fair article did not fully reflect what Rian was actually trying to say about the question of romance in Episode VIII. The Vanity Fair article said this:

FIVE THINGS THAT ARE NOT IN THE LAST JEDI

A big, central-to-the-plot romance. For all the fan-fiction fantasies of “Reylo” (an imagined union of Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren) or “Stormpilot” (the same, for John Boyega’s ex-stormtrooper Finn and Oscar Isaac’s pilot Poe Dameron), Johnson says that The Last Jedi offers “no one-to-one equivalent of the Han-to-Leia, burning, unrequited love. In our story, that’s not a centerpiece.”

And this is what was actually said between Kamp and Johnson in the interview:

Now, what initially seemed to rule out any inclusion of romance in The Last Jedi actually suggests something quite different - Rian seems to be saying that he was keen to include a big, sweeping romance, but that when it came to it the characters didn’t seem to be in the right place for that to happen. He doesn’t at all rule out subtle traces of romance or flirtation (as Kamp highlights in his tweet), thus the classic ‘wait and see’-style response.

It is also very important to point out that the references to Reylo and StormPilot were clearly Kamp editorialising. While terms like ‘imagined’ and ‘fan-fiction fantasies’ sting to anyone familiar with all of the misogynistic BS female fans have to deal with for daring to be interested in the human relationships in these stories, as I see it the references to popular ships are simply there to provide context for the mainstream audience and boost SEO rankings. Rian Johnson has been very emphatic about distancing himself from Kamp’s phrasing, and the full quote makes it clear that no specific relationships were raised in the context of the original interview.

So, while I still think we need to be cautious and keep expectations for an overt Reylo romance in The Last Jedi low (as Rian says, there is no central romance plot in his film), I certainly think that the full quote should relieve the anxiety that love and attraction won’t be in play to some extent. Although I don’t think that we’re going to get a Reylo kiss (that’s my opinion re. The Last Jedi - come back to me after December to get my thoughts on Episode IX), it clearly isn’t out of the question that The Last Jedi will progress Rey and Kylo so that they are ready for a full-blown romance in the next film. I can’t stress enough that Rey and Kylo end The Force Awakens on different sides, with Kylo having killed his father and Rey having just slashed Kylo’s face open. They both have huge personal journeys to go on (Rey has to come into her own in the Force, and Kylo has to wake up to Snoke’s evil and show remorse for his terrible mistakes) before they can truly go on a journey together. Essentially, to progress from the current state of affairs to a consummated love affair in the space of a single movie would, to put it mildly, be pushing it.

Speaking for myself, I would be ecstatic if The Last Jedi simply shows Rey and Kylo developing empathy and perhaps even compassion for each other. Rey has already defeated Kylo in a duel, so their journey together going forward won’t simply be one of antagonism - as J.J. said in his commentary (which was recorded after he had read the script for The Last Jedi), Kylo is “a character who [Rey’s] going to have a very interesting relationship with moving forward”. In short, I have no fear that the dynamic between Rey and Kylo Ren is going to remain static or be less important going forward. Rey and Kylo are crucial to each other’s stories, and we have every reason to believe that Rian is honouring that.

On #PlotGate

These are the tweets that started the famous #PlotGate:

Now, this actually didn’t worry me at all. But why would I - one of the people who has written thousands of words analysing the minutia of The Force Awakens - be unconcerned by the suggestion that Rian could do whatever the hell he wanted in The Last Jedi? Why am I not freaking out when there doesn’t seem to be a plan for the trilogy?

Well, the simple answer is that I’m not alarmed because these kinds of sentiments are far from new. From the very beginning, the narrative has always been that each filmmaker has a considerable degree of freedom to tell the story they want to tell. For a great explanation of how the early development of The Last Jedi worked, see this quote from J.J. Abrams from November 2015 (particularly the bold bits):

The script for VIII is written. I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what Larry and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going. We had meetings with Rian and Ram Bergman, the producer of VIII. They were watching dailies when we were shooting our movie. We wanted them to be part of the process, to make the transition to their film as seamless as possible. I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we’ve been as transparent as possible. Rian has asked for a couple of things here and there that he needs for his story. He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well. But you’re right—that will be his movie; he’s going to do it in the way he sees fit. He’s neither asking for nor does he need me to oversee the process.

There are endless quotes from J.J. and Kathleen Kennedy supporting this picture, and I think this is exactly as it should be. Rian is not making The Last Jedi in a vacuum - he is building it on the foundation set by The Force Awakens, and had a say on the development and presentation of that film so that it would weave seamlessly into his movie. Rian even reiterated this sentiment himself in the main Vanity Fair article on The Last Jedi:

J.J. and Larry and Michael set everybody up in a really evocative way in VII and started them on a trajectory.

Rian is insistent on stressing his independence as a filmmaker at every stage because people are keen to paint him as a slave to the Walt Disney Company’s whims. At every turn, he has to deal with people assuming that The Last Jedi will repeat the trick played by The Force Awakens by mirroring its famous and beloved antecedent - for The Force Awakens this was Star Wars, and people expect it to be The Empire Strikes Back for The Last Jedi. Understandably, Rian wants to stress that The Last Jedi is his baby - it’s infused with his own creativity rather than studio notes and nostalgia.

But, at the same time, that doesn’t mean that Rian can do whatever the hell he wants. I can almost guarantee that Rian would have received furious correctional notes if he had tried to pitch a story where Rey Rey Binks died in the second act. There will be certain strands established in The Force Awakens that The Last Jedi will nurture and evolve, and Rian will be taking pre-existing characters and relationships and building on them further. As Pablo appeased an anxious fan on Twitter:

In short, there absolutely is collaboration - between the individual filmmakers, and between the filmmakers and Lucasfilm. Rian is free to tell the story he wants to tell, but that story has a baseline in The Force Awakens and also has a responsibility to establish a platform for Colin Trevorrow to build on with Episode IX. The filmmakers are talking to each other, and there is absolutely collaboration and handoff between them so that these film will ultimately make sense as a trilogy as well as on their own terms.

In other words, I really don’t see much to worry about. I have seen nothing but praise for the script for The Last Jedi, and Rian’s filmography amply demonstrates his talent as both a writer and a director.

I’m as excited for The Last Jedi as I ever was, so I hope I’ve been able to put some people’s minds to rest with this. Bring on December!

‘Do you really think this is a good idea Jug?’ I’d never felt so out of place. I peered into the window of Pop’s Diner, it was straight out of the 50s. Not a place I’d expect Jughead to frequent. My leather jacket stuck out like a sore thumb as Jughead practically dragged me in. An old man behind the counter, the famous Pop I presumed, greeted Jughead instantly.

‘Usual order Jughead?’

‘Make it for two tonight Pop.’ He nodded back to me, I gave a little wave. He didn’t seem phased by our Southside appearance unlike the rest of the diner. I could feel daggers on me from every angle as we walked over to a booth. Jughead acted coolly, barely taking in all the passing glances. I drummed on the table anxiously.

‘Y/n, you need to calm down.’ He said, grabbing my hands to set them still on the table.

‘Sorry but I can already hear everyone gossiping in here, who’s to say your friends aren’t gonna do the same?’ I had to be honest with Jug, he was a serpent now and there were no secrets between the serpents. Well maybe one.

‘They’re different, they know I’m a serpent now and they know why I chose this path. If they have a problem, they’ve definitely kept it to themselves. They know the serpents are the only family I’ve got now.’ I twitched at the word ‘family’. You weren’t meant to have romantic feelings for your ‘family’.

The bell of the door rang and in walked Jughead’s other gang. A broad shouldered redhead came first, he wore a blazing letterman jacket and had his arm around a black haired girl, her dress looked expensive and she was even wearing heels. That would be Archie and Veronica, Riverdale’s latest sweethearts, I remembered Jughead mention. Behind them, came the beautiful blonde. Her hair was in her signature high ponytail, her face beaming as she got closer to us. She wore a white summer dress and a pastel yellow cardigan on top. While that outfit would usually make me gag, she made it look flawless. If this is what I was up against, I was screwed.

can’t get no respect

[or, how to lose the respect of each sign]

aries can’t stand those who back down from a fight. If you’re the type that doesn’t deal with shit head-on, hesitate during a crucial moment, or use underhanded means to achieve your ends, aries won’t give you no respect!

taurus can’t deal with impatient, temperamental, or controlling personalities. If you’re competitive, always in a hurry, and have no chill, chances are, they think you’re an idiot. Overly-emotional, impractical people get no respect from taurus.

gemini hates boring people. That’s pretty much it- you might be the most horrible person ever, like a serial killer or some shit, but as long as you’re interesting, gemini is down to clown. The second you start to bore them, you won’t get no respect.

cancer doesn’t like people who joke about emotions, lack sympathy, or poke fun at their flaws (even playfully). If you’re a sagittarius loud, flaky, and always have to be out and doing something, instead of enjoying the comfort of family and home, cancer can’t respect you.

virgos are grossed out by lots of shit egotistical personalities. If you’re the type to brag, fish for compliments, or hog the spotlight, keep away. People who are irresponsible, gloss over details, and don’t play by the rules, get no respect from virgo.

libra can’t stand selfish people. If you put yourself first, take more than you give in a relationship, or are prone to being blunt and tactless, do libra a favor and gtfo. Those who create awkward situations or hurt others, even inadvertently, get no respect from libra.

scorpio hates lots of shit, but if you’re shallow, fake, or prone to bending the truth for any reason, you’re basically dead to them. Tbh, scorpio is tied with gemini when it comes to hating boring (uncomplicated) people. If you’re not deep, or only pretend to be ‘deep’ to seem cool, scorpio will give u NO respect.

sagittarius can’t stand nit-pickers or worry warts. If you’re afraid of roller-coasters, spiders, etc, that’s fine. Sags understand fear. But, if you’re too much of a coward to try to conquer your fear, sagittarius automatically loses respect. If you’re bogged down by fear or focus on little details/flaws, just stay away.

capricorns don’t have respect for whiners or rule-breakers. If you can’t deal with your problems independently and maturely, if you stir up unnecessary trouble, and if you half-ass your work (esp in a group project) cap will give u no respect.

pisces is a lot like libra. If you’re selfish or lack sympathy, you are not okay in their book. Also, if you’re too focused on material details, like being on time, thinking too much about money, and preoccupied with fleeting, earthly issues, pisces will give u no respect.

Prompt: Dean punchs Sam for drunkenly kissing Cass and finding out only because there's a photo. He ignores Cass as well. In the end, he apologises and explains why he flipped out ;D

The hockey game had been Dean’s idea. Now he regrets even mentioning it.

“’Dollar Beer Night’, Sam,” Dean had said. “How can you say no to that? We all need a night out: you, me, Cas…”

Sam had agreed to go, as had Castiel (even though the intricacies of organized sports tended to escape him most of the time). They piled into the Impala and headed to the nearby arena to watch the local ECHL team while getting hammered on cheap beer.

That had been the plan at least.

Everything was going so well up until the end of the first period. Dean got up to drain the snake and get them all refills, leaving Cas and a visibly-tipsy Sam at their seats. He was standing in line at Concessions, watching the replays on the monitor above his head when the stadium began their “Kiss Cam” thing.

It was cute: a young couple clearly on a first date, and elderly man and woman decked head to toe in team colors, A man and a woman who don’t seem to know each other very well but play along with a peck on the cheek, a shaggy haired guy and… Wait, is that Sam and Castiel?

“What the…?” Dean mutters, watching in horror as Sam cups a hand around Castiel’s jaw, pulling him in for a sloppy kiss. Castiel looks surprised at first then  relaxes. Dean’s veins seem to harden and fill with ice water. He barely aware of  the cups of beer tipping out of his hand or the shouts of the other attendees around him.

Seconds pass like hours as Dean’s eyes remain glued to the screen. Dean has seen so much horror and awfulness in his life but it doesn’t compare with the image of his brother kissing his, uh, his…

“Fuck…” Dean hisses under his breath. Without thinking, he moves down the passage way, heading back to his seats.

“Hey Dean,” Sam says cheerily, his words a little slurred. “Castiel and I were on the-” He’s cut off by Dean’s fist connecting with his jaw. Sam lurches back for a moment and before lunging toward Dean, plowing his entire weight into his brother. Castiel calls out Dean’s name and attempts to pull them apart as Security scrambles up the steps toward them.

“What the fuck, Dean!” Sam shouts as they walk toward the Impala after being thrown out of the arena. “What the fuck is you fucking problem?” Dean stomps toward the car, any buzz from the beer now gone.

“I said I was sorry,” Dean says, not turning around. He was, too; He had no idea why he blew up that way at his brother. It was clear that the kiss had been a joke; just a drunken reaction to the Kiss Cam. Sam was laughing like an idiot the whole time he was doing it.

Castiel stays strangely quiet, trailing behind the two men. Dean can tell he’s pissed, at him in particular. That was all Dean seemed to do nowadays- piss off people who care about him and drive them farther away. Dean couldn’t even bring himself to look at Castiel.

“Why the hell did you punch me?” Sam asks again.

“It doesn’t matter,” Dean says. “Let’s just head back to the-”

“No, no!” Sam grabs Dean by the shoulder and spins him around to face him. “You’re going to tell me right now what-”

“Is it because Sam kissed me?” Castiel asks. Dean startles and looks toward him, his blue eyes cool and a little accusing.

“I… I uh… I,” Dean stammers. A denial hangs on his tongue, but he just can’t seem to get it out.

“Is that fucking why?!” Sam blurts out incredulously. He makes a disgusted noise and scrubs a hand over his face. “Godammit! As if I don’t have to deal with the two of you and your soap opera shenanigans enough. Christ, Dean, you could’ve said ‘hey, Cas is my boyfriend. Hands off, alright?’”

“Cas, isn’t my-”

“If you’re companionable to that idea, Dean, I think I can be persuaded-”Cas interjects.

“But instead,” Sam continues, “You decide to punch first and ask questions later. That is not how healthy relationships work!”

“Sam, it’s not like -” Dean frowns, noticing the disappointed pull to Castiel’s shoulders. “I mean, if you want it to be like that, we can Cas, but-” Sam grabs the car keys from Dean’s hand.

“I’m going to the car,” he says firmly, turning to leave, “You two get this sorted out. I don’t care what you do, just do it.” Sam’s grumbles echo through the parking lot as he walked away from them. Dean can’t lift his gaze to meet Cas’, too mortified and angry with himself. He starts to follow after Sam when Cas pipes up.

“Dean?” he asks. “Dean… Is that why you punched Sam? Because you were jealous and assumed him and I were in some sort of relationship?” Dean doesn’t answer, just continues to stare at the ground.

“I can assure you,” Castiel continues, “that my interest in Sam is purely platonic.” Dean nods, but he can’t seem to shake the image of the kiss from his brain. “Unlike my interest in you which is… deeper.” Castiel moves forward, and Dean barely has time to react before Cas’ lips are on his. The kiss isn’t as quick or messy as the ‘Kiss Cam’ kiss, but there’s a level of need and intensity that has Dean sinking into Castiel’s embrace touch, his mouth opening willingly as Castiel’s tongue runs over the seam of his lips.

Dean’s hands come up around Castiel’s middle, pulling his closer and earning a soft groan. Castiel’s hand close around Dean’s chin, his cool fingers a counterpart to the warmth of his mouth.

Dean pulls back first, catching his breath and resting his forehead against Cas’ temple.

“I’m sorry,” he mumbles. “I’m an idiot.”

“A little,” Castiel offers. “But you’re my idiot.” And then a little more hesitantly. “You are, aren’t you? Mine?” Dean leans his head on Cas’ shoulder.

“Yeah,” he says. “Yeah, I am.”

Thoughts on Deadpool? Do you think he has or has a chance of developing into a good man? Or that you can't teach old dogs new tricks? I'm genuinely curious as you seem to have a lot of comic background.

hey man look,, anything is possible if the right writer is behind it. i love wade wilson. i start every rant about wade wilson with “i love wade wilson”, because i love wade wilson. wade’s a really interesting character because he isn’t really a good person. people say “oh, he’s good at heart”, but he isn’t, particularly. he has a baseline moral code he won’t compromise on, like not harming children and whatnot, but he’s generally a neutral character who makes his decisions based on personal gain – whether that be monetary or otherwise. he’s not particularly heroic, he’s any one of us if we were in his situation. he picks and chooses his battles. he admires heroes, but doesn’t always understand the sacrifices they make – and a great amount of the time, when wade goes out of his way to perform heroics, he doesn’t get the respect other heroes do. i think, with wade, a lot of the time he believes that he can only be what other people perceive him as. he wants to be respected and admired as a hero, but there’s a futility that follows his efforts, and drives him back into old habits by necessity. to me, good or bad labels won’t really fit on deadpool – it’s just whether his efforts succeed or fail. there’s no way of knowing if wade will really learn what heroism means, to the degree that other heroes do, but i think that gives an edge of realism to wade’s character that sharply contrasts against the fantasy of unwavering good that other heroes embody. what’s the saying? there are no good men, only good deeds. that’s wade.

right now in marvel is probably the closest we’ll be getting to “hero” deadpool, (which imo is still a god awful person, maybe even worse than before). me, i don’t think Marvel will ever go the Full Redemption arc because… i don’t know, anti-hero Deadpool is more… fun? i guess. to read, and probably write. also, every marvel character is under the curse of never truly being able to evolve.

Ride Till The End

Part 2:

Keith wasn’t exactly sure what to make of the guy that kept claiming to be a vampire.
He was loud for one thing, being on the road with him for a couple days now Keith found that he just never shut up talking about anything and everything .
He also never seemed to sleep, Keith had offered to take shifts driving so they didn’t need to stop but Lance turned him down and just kept going only stopping now and again to go the bathroom.
Keith had woken up really late one night to find him still up humming along to some song he didn’t recognise.
All and all Keith found Lance very strange.
Then again, considering he was now a purple freak he really was t one to judge.
They were out of the city now, driving along an abandoned highway without a single zombie in sight.
Keith was routing round the cupboards for something to eat when Lance suddenly slammed on the breaks sending him flying forwards.
“What the hell man!” He snapped
“There’s people outside…” Lance pointed to what looked like a barricade made from an overturned truck with two people standing on top holding guns.
“That’s good isn’t it? We need food and gas after all.” Keith grinned.
“Your purple and I can’t go out in the sun, how do you think they’ll react when a strange RV comes driving towards them?” Lance questioned.
“Again with the vampire bull shit really.” Keith grumbled under his breath.
Lance of course heard him but was too focused on the two figures that seemed to notice them as they climbed down and came running over with their guns raised.
“Shit” Lance cursed putting the RV in reverse and driving away from them only for the sound of gun fire a burst tire to echo through the air.
They skidded across the road, Keith holding on to the back of the seat and Lance trying to keep them from flipping over.
They managed to remain upright and came to a stop at the side of the road just as the two figures made their way to the door.
“What do we do?” Keith asked as Lance jumped up and tossed him some bandages as he began to apply a heavy layer of sunscreen.
“Put those on and if they ask your a burn victim.” He ordered in a serious tone Keith had never heard before.
As Lance pulled on as many layers of clothes as he could including a large ladies sun hat, Keith wrapped the bandages around his face using a spare hat to cover his ears and his is tail down the leg of his pants.
By time the door was kicked in the two looked strange but totally human.
“Who are you and where you heading?” One demanded pointing his gun at Lance who had stepped as daw away from the intruding sun light as possible.
“My names Lance, this is my friend Keith. We ran away from the hospital before the outbreak got bad and are headed to Cuba.” Lance lied so effortlessly that it honestly disturbed Keith a little.
“So what’s with the get up?” The other a tall blonde woman asked gesturing to them with the barrel of her gun.
“I have skin cancer and Keith was caught up in a fire, we have to be careful around the sun and dust ya know.” Lance shrugged again trying to seem casual.
The man looked sceptical but the woman nudged him in the ribs and pointed towards the built in fridge.
“Tell you what, we’ll let you pass in exchange for whatever you’ve got in there.” He smirked.
Lance paled looking to Keith slightly panicked.
Keith had never opened the fridge but Lance had told him that he would die if he didn’t get what was in there regularly.
“No can do… we kinda need it.” Lance said too quickly.
“It wasn’t a request.” The woman smirked cocking her gun and aiming at Lance’s chest.
Keith couldn’t let them take something that Lance relied upon to live.
“I’ll count to ten before I start filling your pretty little body with lead.” She glanced at the fridge almost hungrily but made no move towards it. “One, two, three, nine.”
“Wait!” Keith yelled. “Just let me get the key.” He said quickly moving towards the drivers seat with his hands raised.
“Be quick about it.” The woman spat.
Keith nodded kneeling down as if to get something from under the seat, then he suddenly jumped into the seat and slammed his foot down on the gas pedal.
The RV lurched forwards knocking the two outside as Keith sped straight into the barricade.
He head shooting and hissed in pain when a built grazed his arm.
He ignored it as they crashed right into the truck flipping right over the top.
Keith was air born for a moment before everything turned black.
———————————–
When Lance woke up everything hurt.
He was lying halfway through the wind screen with pieces of broken glass sticking out of all visible skin.
He was lucky he could heal so fast or he would surly of died.
Groaning he climbed back inside examining the wreckage.
The RV was a wreck and Lance could smell something strange.
However that smell was over powered by the scent of blood.
Lance’s eyes widened at the sight of Keith lying limply over the air bad with red blood dripping from his nose.
Lance felt his fangs descend at the sight, but shook his head to clear any thoughts of drinking from Keith.
He limped over to him trying to shake him awake earning him a small moan.
Good he was still alive.
Lance hears gun fire again, it hitting the metal creating small sparks.
It was then that Lance realised what that strange smell was.
It was the propane tank.
It must of burst in the crash.
Lance didn’t waste any time.
He picked Keith up and started to run along the highway not even stopping to grab any of his blood.
He thanked whatever God that stilled watched over his time that it was cloudy enough so that he wasn’t burning.
Lance didn’t look back when he heard shouting and gun fire on metal.
Or when the explosion sent him flying forwards falling to his knees as he fought to keep Keith in his arms.
He didn’t look back.
He just kept running.
Even though now they had lost the RV, Lance’s blood supply, all their weapons.
And most importantly, the only shelter from the sun they would likely see for miles and miles.
It was a waiting game now.
What would happen first?
Lance find shelter?
Or the Sun coming out and turning him to ash.
Only time will tell.

To have a stellium is possibly one of the hardest things to deal with. I am only saying that based on my observation of people with a stellium. I do not have a stellium, but from my eyes, this is how I perceive you guys:

Too much personal energy is being focused into one House and that is difficult in itself. When you have so much personal energy going into one area of your life, it is far too easy for you to get tipped over. If I am being brutally honest here, you would expect someone with a stellium to be really good in that area of their life right? Someone with a 7th House stellium to be successful in relationships, attract a lot of people into their life, be focused on marriage and their relationships with other people right? NOPE! Upon my observation of plenty of people with a 7th House stellium, they do center their life around things pertaining to the 7th House, but they are anything but successful and stable in that area of their life. I’ve never seen someone have so many enemies than someone with a 7th House stellium and I have never seen someone be so emotionally invested into a relationship that is absolutely no good for them and they want out than someone with a 7th House stellium.

A stellium is, in my humble opinion, is extremely difficult to deal with.

Another observation of mine is people with a 3rd House stellium vs me being 3rd House dominant. I know far too many people with a 3rd House stellium, in fact a close family member of mine has a 3rd House stellium. I’ve noticed that communication is something that they value and, like anyone with a stellium, they base their life around this one House. But it is so difficult for them to grasp onto proper communicating techniques. They usually have trouble expressing themselves, they can grow frustrated with this inability to express themselves and they may doubt themselves far too many times regarding their written work. Some, I’ve even noticed, had a speech problem growing up or could even have a speech problem now. I do not have a 3rd House stellium, but I am 3rd House dominant. I have both my Sun and Mercury in the 3rd House and communication comes easily to me. I was and still am a fast learner and I have never really had a problem with the 3rd House. I found myself to be somewhat stable in that area of my life and that is possibly due to the fact that not so much energy is being placed there as opposed to someone with a 3rd House stellium.

I have one last observation that I want to write about and that’s a 1st House stellium. My mother has a 1st House stellium, I’ve dated someone with a 1st House stellium and I, personally, know many people with a 1st House stellium. The 1st House is the House of Self, it is what we identify ourselves with and it is how people see us. From what I’ve observed, a 1st House stellium is an identity crisis. Based on my observation from countless of people with a 1st House stellium, I observed that they are constantly switching up and happen to adapt incredibly quick to their surroundings. Now, adapting is never a negative trait! In fact, it is key to survival if I’m being honest here. What I mean by adapting incredibly quick, I mean that these people with the 1st House stellium often lose their own opinion in others. They may think one thing and then choose to identify with something else to fit the other persons standards and view points. It is almost as if they are trying far too hard to find their own identity, that they can completely lose themselves as a person through this.

i can go on and on about people with a stellium in different Houses because I feel as though I am being plagued by them wherever I go. Never has anyone said that having a stellium is going to be an easy thing, so if you have one you already know that it is not easy. It is not easy having to pour so much into this one area of your life and whenever you fall short of something or feel as though you aren’t successful enough in that one area of your life; you are failing. Everything can seem like it is crashing down on you because of all the energy into one House. I have observed and dealt with far too many people with any stellium imaginable and so I do believe that I can speak on this topic because I am well informed. I may not know for a fact what people with a stellium can deal with, but I have a good idea.

My inference is that a stellium is never good nor is it bad. Since these are personal planets and luminaries we are talking about in one House, it is ever changing like how you are ever changing. It can be good one second and bad the next. You can feel on top of the world one second and have the Earth crumble down beneath you the other.

jane4lung do u think that true trans liberation will ever come? as a trans woman who isnt out yet i dont know how i feel about it and i think that the concept of transness is just scary to cis people and thats scary to me sorry if this seems ranty?

I believe that if we haul ass and create as many great things as we can before we die, the cis will eventually have no choice but to acknowledge our value.  If we are to remain oppressed, the very least we can do is shine as brightly as possible before we’re snuffed out.

Trans women wrote and directed The Matrix. A trans woman composed the soundtracks for The Shining, Tron and Clockwork Orange.  A trans woman is currently employed in Hans Zimmer’s sound team.  The first trans woman ever to run for state rep in the U.S. did so just last year.  A trans woman spoke at the Democratic National Convention during the last election, the first ever to do so. Chelsea Manning is free and playing Forza in her own living room right now.

If you can outshine a cis person in your lifetime, you’ll be contributing to the overall social advancement of trans people.

I plan to spit out as much art as I can until I’m better than every cis person who does what I do.

That’s why my motto is “110% Every Day Forever”.

Many people say Snape's love for Lily redeemed him. I don't really agree with it. Tbh while his relationship with Lily is too problematic to work. Snape, while he doesn't care about the quality of it, is committed to preserving life. That's something not even McGonagall has done as religiously as Snape, and definitely not Dumbledore. It is Snape who is horrified at how expendible Harry's life is to Dumbledore. I think it's this dedication to life that redeems him rather than the "Always".

The problem is, some people see the obvious and miss the wood for the trees.

Snape’s love for Lily didn’t redeem him at all.  His redemption came through him changing.

There are several examples of this, but two key ones are:

  • Young Snape freely uses Mudblood as a slur, whilst Headmaster Snape rebukes Phineas for using it.
  • Young Snape is somewhat complicit in the death of relative innocents, whilst adult Snape states unequivocally that he does his utmost to save lives.

So yes, his love for Lily motivated him to change, but it is not how he gained his redemption; he gained his own redemption.  It saddens me that so many seem to miss this - and it is this which leads to the, “Harry forgave him because he wanted to bang his mom,” claims.  It is obvious that these people do not understand the story.

hi, would you have tips on how to write a love-hate relationship? most like hate that turns into love or something like that. also your blog has been so helpful to my writing, thank you very much and i hope you're having a nice day! 💕

Hi!

Here’s one post with advice on love-hate relationships – it may help!

My advice on this is basically, know your characters inside and out, so that you can define what makes their relationship love-hate and what kind of love-hate it is. Because there are a couple, that I can think of:

  • Romantic/Lustful: in this case, either the characters’ personalities clash and their bodies live in harmony (think along the lines of friends with benefits, except it’s really more like enemies with benefits), or they have great chemistry both physically and personality-wise, but can’t be in a relationship. The reasons for not being in a relationship could be anything from that they’ve tried a relationship in the past and it hasn’t worked out (and possibly things happened in their past attempt/attempts to cause them to dislike each other) to that another set of circumstances (they’re too far from each other, one has trust issues, etc) gets in the way and causes tension between them.
  • Unlikely Allies: in this case, it doesn’t always have something to do with romance – they could just dislike each other but be forced to work together. For example, two of my characters in my current project have lived in a boys’ home for years – one, however, has been one of the administrator’s pets, while the other has gotten into loads of trouble over the years and is generally regarded as a troublemaker. The troublemaker (Conrad) dislikes the pet (Nick), because Nick claims he’s not like the administrator’s other pets and wants to help people like Conrad, and Conrad thinks he’s lying through his teeth. (Also, Nick is gay, and Conrad is a firmly-established homophobe, although he tries to hold his peace about that.) However, Nick and Conrad have to work together to get my protagonist out of a bind, and they set their differences aside to get the job done. This isn’t so much “love-hate” as “hate-but-I’ll-temporarily-tolerate-you”, but I felt it was worth including.

(And keep in mind that either of the above could work both forwards and backwards – two people could start out as enemies with benefits and then find that they actually care for each other, and two unlikely allies could find out, through working together, that they work together well, or that their opinions of each other were too harsh. By the same token, two people could like each other as they start working together, but find that they actually hate each other or drive each other up the wall.)

As for hate to love, here’s a post about its various cliches and how to avoid them. I’ve written this type of relationship before as well, and let me say that there doesn’t need to be some huge explosion of an argument to start the relationship off – it could be something as simple as one not liking that the other is a little arrogant, or one getting irritated by the sound of the other constantly tapping their feet or drumming their fingers on the table. People meet each other and dislike each other from first sight all the time, and it’s not always because of some huge difference in morals or politics or any other kind of opinion – it could just be something one thinks they see in the other’s eyes, or that one has a limp handshake, or that one doesn’t like the way the other carries him/herself.

To transition to love, you need to peel back the layers on the surface of the two people involved – they saw and disliked what was on the surface, so you need to get rid of that and reveal what’s underneath to make them start getting closer to each other. Maybe Person A appeared arrogant, but that surface arrogance actually hides raging insecurity; maybe Person B seemed annoyingly optimistic, but they’re actually afraid of the future or hopeless. The entire premise of love-hate relationships, whether they start at love and transition to hate or start at hate and transition to love, is that whatever the two people saw on each other’s surfaces peels away to reveal the real meat of the people – their true colors, if you will. You can do whatever you wish with the characters’ relationship as long as it happens through delving deeper into your characters.

I hope this helps! If you need anything else, please feel free to ask. - @authors-haven

My brother is looking for a service pokemon for my nephew, but he seems scared of most of the normal growlithe/lillipup or other canine pokemon that are often assigned as service pokemon... Do you have any suggestions? My nephew has a rather severe case of autism and sometimes needs a break from everything around him, as well as being nearly entirely blind.

I’ve heard some people have good experiences with Kirlia and well-trained Kadabra. Popplio and Clefairy are also popular, but they tend to be more favored by people with sound sensitivities or hearing problems.
