people built these

The facade of unerring confidence Cassian had shown the others had slipped from him in the quiet of the cockpit. He played over the plan in his mind and could not stop the pragmatist inside him from recognizing all the ways it could go wrong. Instead of letting himself get lost in it he looked to Bodhi, who seemed calmer at the ship’s controls now than Cassian had ever had fortune to see him. When he first saw the pilot in the catacombs he was a means to an end but now he was here with more resolve than people who had built the Alliance itself. He was broken out of his thoughts when Bodhi spoke to flight control with final confirmation of their cargo numbers. All that was left to do was await their landing assignment. He couldn’t seem to stand the dead of calm, turning to Cassian to break the silence.

Me, whispering to myself last night as I worked on Inferno:

…I heard Katsuki Yuuri’s shredded, that he has an eight-pack…

Honestly speaking, if AO3′s cold culture had been my first introduction to writing fic? I can’t guarantee I’d still be writing it.

Livejournal was a lot of (mostly bad, towards the end) things, but at minimum it was a community of readers that were excited to read and talk about your work. Their feedback was essential to my early evolution as a fic writer. Absolutely essential.

So I’m not posting numbers in an attempt to whine or look for more attention. I just want everyone to consider dropping some Kudos if you take the few minutes to read the entire story, and maybe leaving a comment if you liked it - especially if you’ve read it multiple times. Many of these writers might not even know how talented they are, since AO3′s not the kind of place that’s very keen on revealing your worth.

But we can help change that, you know? We can all do something about it. We don’t just have to accept it as “that’s the way it is” and shrug it off. That’s how you lose writers. That’s the kind of lonely, quiet environment that makes someone facing a writer’s block instead choose to close up shop. Then you’re wondering why they never continued their epic series, when all they ever got were about 3% of people leaving Kudos and five comments for days and days of work.

And I just think that’s a damn shame.

“Because of this Hamilton fairy dust, I have so many doors open to me now,” says Tony Award-winning actor-rapper Daveed Diggs, whose dual roles as Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson were standouts in that American musical theater phenomenon. Diggs, currently on the ABC series Black-ish, is also on tour with his rap group Clipping, and has plans to start work on a solo rap album. Here, he talks with Lisa Robinson about life after Hamilton.

LISA ROBINSON: You left Hamilton this past summer. Are you sick of talking about the show?

DAVEED DIGGS: It’s a good thing that I love the show and the people who built it, because I just as easily could have been in a hit that I didn’t love. But I like that people are starting to find out that I do other things.

L.R.: Other than the attention, how did Hamilton change your life?

D.D.: In almost every way. It’s pretty rare for an actor, or artist, to be able to ask yourself, ‘What do you want to do?’ and I’m in that position now because of Hamilton. I’m able to say no to a lot of things. I’m not worried about money: I take cabs now—I never took cabs my entire life. My mantra about what a level of success would be was ‘just buy the sandwich’—not to have to worry about if I could buy a sandwich when I was hungry.

L.R.: You’re known as a very fast rapper. What is the idea behind Clipping—your rap group with Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson?

D.D.: Clipping is a very specific, concept-y thing. We have all these rules: we don’t sample drums, we create all our own sounds, I don’t speak in the first person. We come from a background of experimental music like John Cage … Philip Glass.

L.R.: How will your solo rap album differ from Clipping?

D.D.: Less formal, just rap songs about whatever I want them to be about. A little more straight-ahead. All these ideas I’ve had that I thought I’d get to someday … maybe someday is right now.

How Hamilton Changed Daveed Diggs’s Life (and Preferred Mode of Transportation)

Some people are born with an ear for music, some people are born with a talent for drawing, some people…have a built-in radar that tells them where a comma needs to go in a sentence.

wanna know how much i love the Vault-Tec guy?

i didn’t just “give him a job” in Sanctuary, i built him his own little pub.

Look at this creature. This is so Credence.

It’s legs are ridiculously long and majestic. It’s back is rather hunched, and it is overall the most beautiful of the canid family.

Like, how is this not Credence Barebones, the adorable, misunderstood boy. <3

Even Maned Wolves are poorly understood and often killed for simply being wolves, even though they rarely cause issues for farmers and people.

They are remarkably built and painted by nature. Look at those colors, the orange and black. AND THOSE EARS! That face, so full of emotion if you look into their face. The legs that just keep on going and going and going beautifully. UGH YES.

They are nature’s queens. Like, so graceful and yet not at the same time lol.

Credence is so like them, mysterious, misunderstood, and overall magnificent. Like look at those poses. They can be hella submissive, but also are super strong. LIKE OK IF THIS DOESNT CONVINCE YOU THEN….!!!

OK IM DONE. Can this be a thing, please… <3

Fanfiction Writers/Fanartists ARE REAL WRITERS AND ARTISTS.

I’ve seen so many posts and been on the receiving end of so many people claiming that people who do fan art or write fanfiction aren’t real artists or writers.

To which I say, bullshit.

Do you NOT know what the entertainment industry involves?

If you ever watch a tv show, the writers for that episode almost always change one way or another.

Have you ever stayed for the credits of an animated movie?

You will see hundreds of people who have worked on animating these characters. HUNDREDS.

And each and every one of these writers and artists base their work on what is known as a ‘bible.’

These ‘bibles’ contain character information and sketches. The character designs both visually as well as their mannerisms. And countless people get pulled on to work on these tv shows who pick up these outlines and begin creating with them.

THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY IS BUILT ON PEOPLE WHO CAN PICK UP SOMETHING PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED, AND CREATE BELIEVABLE STORIES. SO MUCH SO THAT UNLESS SOMEONE TOLD YOU YOU WOULDN’T KNOW THAT EPISODES WERE WRITTEN BY ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

Or…

Your TV shows and movies 99% of the time, ARE fanfiction and fanart (if it’s animated).

Respect FanFiction writers and Artists.

It’s not easy taking someone else’s characters and creating stories so in tune that you wouldn’t even notice if you weren’t told.

One of the things I really love about the HP verse is the fact that there’s no limit on it. We’re shown how magic works in the UK and in parts of Europe (but you can’t expect me to believe that all of Europe can be represented by France, Germany and Scotland? What about Scandinavia? Iceland? The Finns? They’re a completely separate people! Spain - the Moors in Spain? The Basque? Eastern Europe, where young schools have sprung up now that they have new countries and don’t send their children to Russia? Old schools in the med dating back to classical times? Rival schools in Turkey for the kurds and the turks?) BUT the vast majority of the world is open.

At least, I like to think it is.

Which means that we have pheonix and hippogriffs and dragons and unicorns sure, but Newt travelled the world. A demiguise is all very well and yes, fine, apparently it came from the far east - except that demi and guise betray a decidedly European origin for its name and I can’t find it mentioned anywhere outside Fantastic Beasts / the HP verse. (If I’m wrong, please let me know)

I want to see the Qilin. I want the bunyips. I want giant gambos swimming over in the levitated aquatic habitat in Newt’s suitcase; I want kappa and orang-bati and mapinguari.

And, you know, you’re an international lot aren’t you? Tumblr covers a fair chunk of the world. I know a decent amount about the mythology of my own country and I’m learning as much as I can about the mythology and magical creatures of other countries, but I figured I’d ask you guys. You’ve got to be better than the “top ten scary creatures around the world” list I’m currently reading.

So.

Send me mythology and magical creatures from your country (or not from your country!) and I’ll find a way to work them into a fic.

If I can’t work them into a fic, then rest assured that I’ll treasure the knowledge anyway because hell yes more magic things and more cultures to learn about. I will also love you forever more, but that’s a given.

anonymous asked:

Why are people basically saying you built up the Heathers fandom? I'm not trying to be rude but no one person just gave any fandom all its followers. I was into the Heathers before I found you. I just find it strange how many people keep saying that you basically brought the Heathers all its fans.

yeah exactly!! i dont know either :/

CANCER - Deep Inside

It is difficult for cancer to open up and have a close emotionally fulfilled relationship with someone because they are so closed off emotionally and physically to the world. This is driven by their fear of trust, Cancer has a difficult time trusting people. This causes built up anger and resentment inside, the contradictory nature really takes a toll on them and they can have a negative outlook on life, thinking that life is just too hard and miserable. This is unfortunate because when good experiences are to be had, they are sceptical of people and their surroundings and they experience tunnel vision due to their depressed outlook and they miss the nice things and happy experiences in life that make it worth living.

In addition to lack of trust for people, Cancer is deeply sensitive and easily hurt, this is another reason why they have their defence shell in place, to avoid being hurt by others. Cancer lives in the past. They hold past events close to them and often dwell on the past. They have to learn to let go and live in the present instead of spending their time being sick with nostalgia.

Cancer has a lot of emotional issues to deal with but once they overcome this large hump of shyness and insecurity, there is practically nothing they can’t do. With their strong intuition, sensitivity, powers of observation and intelligence, they will have great success in anything they undertake. Cancer is constantly feeling, feelings and emotions are hallmarks of this sign and this is the root of their problems, human beings are not as evolved in the emotional area and this is where cancer gets the brunt of their problems.

They are the ones who have to cope with their strong feelings more so than any other sign. Once properly harnessed, there is nothing that is this powerful astrology sign can not accomplish. Harmony is very important to Cancer, it keeps them happy. Conflict of any kind causes great distress.

Deep inside, Cancer is a very powerful sign, they have the ability to stand up for what they think is right and they have lots of perseverance and can be fine on their own provided they don’t let their emotions get the better of them and have the stability they need. They are not fond of change but they have the ability to do what needs to be done, they are not pushovers or lazy people.

It was painful sometimes. Sometimes they encouraged me to talk about things that made me cry so hard I couldn’t breath. Sometimes they told me stories about their lives I really wished werent true. Human connection is often painful but so so powerful. And I cannot think of one thing more important than it. But I’ve never been one to stick with what’s comfortable so I moved away from my lovely community to a small mountain town. I have met people and I have built relationships. Something is missing. Is it the obsession with their phones? The obsession with their outdoor recreation and showing off how much they do and see? Am I shutting myself off? I truly don’t know. But I have been asked “what hikes have you been on?” more than I have been asked genuinely how I am adjusting to a new life. I get that superficial conversation is less time and mentally consuming. But this has become the loneliest feeling.

Please be mindful of others. Listen to them. Ask them questions about their life. Don’t zone out the second they start telling a story. Don’t fucking look at your phone when you’re suppose to be having a conversation. Make eye contact. Follow up! Be the one who is always asking to hang out. Ask a new coworker how they are adjusting to the job. Get to know your friends depression. Don’t try to make yourself seem better or more experienced. And do NOT be afraid of asking people questions you think will be hard/emotional for them to answer. People appreciate other people’s care. Be a safe space.

Tear off your skin,
the one other people built you,
because the flowers you’ve planted
are sprouting from your bones
and they are so much more beautiful
than the translucent paper
stretched across your limbs

Take the leash off of your tongue
it’s not meant to be chained
you could start wars
you could heal nations
if you just parted your lips
and spoke

Build your own house
you don’t need anyone’s shelter
so grab a ladder and a hammer
and climb into the stars
and nail a few into a home
because that’s where you belong
you are celestial and blazing
and eternal

Forge your own happiness
fashion it out of your strengths
and your flaws too
that way it will be sturdy
constant like the sky
even if sometimes it’s a bit clouded over
