A Hungarian folk singer is suing Beyoncé for stealing “Drunk in Love”

A Hungarian Roma is suing Beyoncé for sampling her voice without credit or permission. Monika Miczura Juhász claims that Beyoncé “illegally appropriated” one her distinctive hooks for her chart-topping hit “Drunk in Love.”

Juhász, who performs under the name Mitsou, filed the lawsuit in a Manhattan, New York, court and names Jay Z and songwriter Timbaland as codefendants. Apparently Mitsou believes that Beyoncé found and jacked a sample from her 1995 song “Bajba, Bajba Pelem,” written and performed while Mitsou was a member of Hungarian group Ando Drom. The part in question is the eerie female vocal sample that begins “Drunk in Love."
