peanut hummus

How To: Get Out of a Magical Slump

This post is brought to you by my own current magical slump that I’m going to be working at pulling myself out of. So let’s all go at this together. Please feel free to add whatever ideas you have when you reblog! :)

- find a challenge online to do something everyday. Whether it’s witchy, tarot, religious, whatever you feel like. Add a reminder on your phone to show up every day, or leave post its on places you’ll see.

- find some songs that make you feel ethereal and add them into your current music playlist. Then they’ll show up at random and help swing your mindset to magic.

- wear an item that makes you feel powerful, like that pentacle or tree of life that’s been sitting on your dresser for a while.

- take a walk somewhere with a lot of nature. If it’s somewhere wild like the woods, bring a plant guide and a bag, forage a bit. Then you can dry them out and expand your magical components.

- Never forget about kitchen witchcraft, even if you’re not a kitchen witch. We all eat, and many of us cook to some degree. Even if you just look up the magical correspondences of hummus and peanut butter. Tape the list to the jar, then you’ll be reminded every time you grab a snack.

 - Have a movie night for yourself with a selection of movies/TV shows featuring a (somewhat)more realistic version of magic. Try Practical Magic, Mists of Avalon, The Craft, The Secret Circle, etc

-  Throw a drawstring bag of your favourite crystals in the jeans you always wear

- light incense for absolutely no reason. Scented candles, diffusers, and essential oil burners work great too

- Try to meditate once a day. Set a time if you can. Even if it’s just 15, 10 or even 5 minutes.

I’ve been doing a lot of these types of lunches lately. Since I stopped eating added sugars I’ve just automatically gravitated toward things like apples and peanut butter, peppers and hummus, celery and peanut butter (all with a side of cheese of course)… things that will satisfy me but not full on meals that bring down my energy and make me sluggish.
I’ll probably add a nectarine to this 👌

P.s. s/o to my daughter’s kiddie plates, they’re awesome portion control😂😂

murderxbaby  asked:

Yeah but now I want to talk about hummus......(no seriously, what's the deal? LOL)

OKAY SO. I have nothing against hummus as a food group, right. BUT a very silly mistake on my part has led me to be the biggest joke in all my friend groups. Because I can’t tell what hummus looks like, apparently.

Two years ago I was getting lunch with my friend in one of our school’s dining halls, right? And in the front there was free food samples which really isn’t that weird at my school. My friend went ahead, while I stopped to look at the samples bc free food is free food and why ever turn that down?

Anyway the samples were apple slices and this brown creamy substance for dipping the apple slices in- which I assumed to be hummus since there was no food label. And I really didn’t think anything of it bc I had thought I’d heard about someone eating apples with hummus so okay whatever.

Well. The creamy brown substance was not hummus.

A few minutes later my mouth started to get itchy, I felt hot and had difficulty swallowing. I immediately realized what was the problem and went to my friend.

“Did you try the samples in the front?” I asked her.

“You mean the apples and peanut butter?” she said. “Yeah, why?”

I’M ALLERGIC TO NUTS. OKAY. I was having an allergic reaction- a mild one bc I’m more allergic to other types of nuts than peanut butter- AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SAYS

She says: “WHY WOULD YOU EVER THINK THAT WAS HUMMUS NO ONE EATS APPLES WITH HUMMUS!!!!! NO ONE!!! ARE YOU GOING TO DIE BC YOU DIDN’T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BTWN HUMMUS AND PEANUT BUTTER?!?!?!”

I didn’t die of course but this story has led to numerous jokes ever since. This same friend gave me this card for Valentine’s Day THIS YEAR (TWO YEARS AFTER THIS WHOLE THING HAPPENED):

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A;LKSJDFL;AKSJFL;KJFDS;LKJL;SKJDFALSKDFJA;LKJSDF;LAKJDF;LKJDLF;KJSL;KDFJ;LKSDFJALKSDFJL;KASDJFJ;KLFDFSDJKLFDJL;K

Another friend of mine got a bunch of stuffed animals for Valentine’s Day and decided to name them after all the friends in our group. GUESS WHAT MY STUFFED ANIMAL WAS NAMED.

HUMMUS. SHE NAMED IT HUMMUS BC OF THIS STORY.

And then I made the huge mistake of telling my roommates this same story last night and they put this on my door:

AND I’M JUST?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? AHHAHSDHFHSAL;KDJF;ALSKJFAKL;AL;KSJDF;AISEFJASLKDJ;FA;LKSJDF;LAKJFLSDJFLASJDFLA;KJ

So. The moral of the story is a) know what you’re eating before you try it, and b) I don’t talk about hummus unless I want this story to be retold for the millionth time in a row XDDD

(tagging @recyciedtrash and @youmeandhistory bc you know this story by heart by now damnit)

So I reached 10,000 followers last night and thought what better way to thank you groovy people than with hummus and peanut butter haha 😂

But for real though I am super grateful for everyone that reads, likes, comments and chooses to keep up with me and my food over the last few months!!🙏🙏🙏☺️

Why is it so hard to find filling vegetarian food that can be prepped ahead of time? I run 12-14 hours days regularly and have to bring all of my food with me. Finding recipes that will keep me full for more than 20 minutes and be carried around is killing me.

I’ve had this problem as well. Whenever I see ideas for vegetarian lunches to take to school/work they are almost always 90% salads. And while salad is great, it isn’t nearly enough for me.

Try adding more protein, carbs, and healthy fats to whatever you usually eat. Things like rice, sweet potatoes, beans, pasta, oatmeal, greek yogurt, peanut butter, eggs, avocado, hummus, nuts, dried fruit, lentils, etc. A smoothie made with some combination of banana, peanut butter, yogurt, ground flaxseed, avocado, and coconut oil might help you get through the day. You can also browse through my lunch tag here for recipes.

Personally, I’m very lazy when it comes to lunch so I usually just take leftovers or a smorgasbord of whatever is in my fridge/pantry. Anyone have other ideas for a brown bag lunch?

Let's Go 21 Day Fix Grocery Shopping!

Okay, you got your 21 Day Fix Challenge Pack in the mail. You’ve gotten a chance to go through some of the material. Now it’s time to get ready to prep for your first week. That’s right, it’s time to go grocery shopping!

If you’re anything like me, you probably DREAD going to the grocery store. It’s so full of people and can feel like a zoo - especially around all the good produce! My tip, try to go on any day of the week except Sunday! Sunday afternoons and evenings are always PACKED at the grocery store. If you can go after work one day or even during the day on Saturday you will have better luck zipping in and zipping out! :)

Here’s what a typical grocery lists might look like for me when I go shopping. Depending on what I make each week, this cart of items can last me 1-2 weeks, with some items possibly lasting a little longer!

I try to get to the grocery store every 1 - 1.5 weeks since items like my bananas usually need to be replenished every week. I usually only need to buy my proteins once every 2 weeks because those tend to last me longer. On a bigger grocery week I might spend closer to $60, on a smaller grocery week I will spend somewhere around $20 - $30. I will plan on posting some actual receipts and documentation of everything I purchased after my 1st shopping trip when I’m in my new apartment! :)

Low spoons shopping

These are foods I try to keep in my house, b/c they make low spoons cooking easier. These are basic ingredients that are easy to prepare or add to things I already have, or can add to leftovers.

Eggs: Breakfast for dinner is a fast and filling meal. You can microwave them and do lots of different things to 1-2 eggs to make a meal.

Prepared frozen burgers: These come in a stack and cook from frozen to complete in a frying pan in about 8 minutes if you keep turning them. Fast, filling protein.

Bags of frozen chicken breast: Similar to the burgers, but lean protein. You really should thaw them before cooking for the best flavor, but you can cook one in a frying pan covered for ~20 mins from frozen.

Crackers: Plain, like saltines, ritz, or club. You can make a meal with crackers and deli slices, or they’re good when you know you should eat but you have no appetite. Also good for night eating when you need food in your stomach but don’t want real food.

Chocolate: I keep cocoa and chocolate cookies to satisfy cravings.

Baked beans in a can: Baked beans are little protein + sugar bombs you can heat up quickly, can supplement a meal.

Frozen veggies: For those days when you need vitamins. Easy to cook in a mug with water for 2 mins. Easy to add to a recipe or throw in a pan.

Frozen pot pies and prepared salads: I only buy like 1-2 at a time, b/c they’re so fattening. If you’re on a budget, it’s worth it when you’re shopping to think “What will I do when I really can’t prepare any of this?” and buy something for emergencies rather than  delivery.

Peanut butter and hummus: They bulk up a sandwich, can be eaten with crackers or veg.

Shrimp for shrimp cocktail: Not all the time, but a good treat. If it’s frozen, they thaw in 2 mins in cool water. They’re always tasty, always refreshing, and always healthy with lots of protein, and all you need is the shrimp, the cocktail sauce, and cute dishes.

Wide array of spices: Dont’ buy if you don’t know what to do with it, but buy as you learn. Chicken bullion is fantastic for adding flavor to anything. If you make simple food, boredom becomes a problem, so spices make a difference.

Fresh fruit and veg: Because 3pm hunger means a banana with peanut butter or nutella, because if I can only make a sammich for lunch then an apple fills out the meal, because avocados make everything better. Because I feel better when I eat things that have grown on a tree.

Things that aren’t  worth it:

Canned soup: soup usually has HFCS and a lot of salt and chemicals. the HFCS gives me weird cravings later. Soup is ok once in a while, but it’s more expensive than it’s worth considering it takes a whole can to satisfy me.

Frozen meals: Sometimes I’ll buy a few of these, but it’s the same as the canned soup. There’s a lot of chemicals and unhealthy things, and it’s not a lot of food for the price.

Delivery: It’s never as good as I think it’s going to be. I get delivery a lot, but I really need to stop. It’s expensive, it’s not really that hard to make some egg and chips or something, and where I live, there’s only like 3 good restaurants and I get bored fast. Plus, I always think I’ll save the leftovers, but microwaved chinese or pizza is always bad.

A/N: Omg it’s been so long, but hey I’m back! I was going to make this Christmas themed but considering it’s Boxing Day I think it’s safe to say that that time has passed, so I just made it set somewhere in the Winter. It’s really dialogue heavy and feels kinda rushed in some areas, I’m kinda rusty tbh but I’m hoping to start writing more frequently again. So if anybody has any prompts/requests I’m down ;)Thank you @portable-imouto for this awesome request, I hope you like it!

Prompt: Christmas AU where the reader and Pietro get snowed in because of a sudden strong snowstorm and they are stuck at the reader’s house. :)

Warnings: Mentions of netflix and chill?

“Snowed In”

This was bad.

“Shit!” Pietro cursed as he again sped into the door. 10 feet of thick snow on the other side. Last nights storm had  taken you both by surprise.

“Would you stop?! You’re going to break yourself well before you even make a crack in that door!”

Pietro’s brow furrowed. “What do you want me to do? Just sit here and wait for the spring?!“

Rolling your eyes, you chuckled.

“Don’t be so dramatic” you teased.

Honestly, it wasn’t like you were any happier about it, but you had always prided yourself in keeping a level head even in the most stressful of situations. Pietro on the other hand, was a little more ‘free’ with expressing his frustrations.

“I have been on a mission almost everyday for the past five months. That is five months of constant moving and I am exhausted Y/N. I want at least one relaxing day this frantic year. Do not tell me to stop being dramatic” Pietro seethed.

He was right of course. Being an Avenger was not everything it was praised to be. People saw hero’s in high tech outfits punching out the bad guys and saving the day, end if story. But what they didn’t see is the countless hours of training, researching, traveling, and occasionally acting undercover for missions. Once a mission was complete, you were being briefed on your next one not 12 hours later. It meant countless nights training and briefing overtime for the safety of countless others. It was a full time job and a very tiring one at that. But you wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. You knew Pietro felt the same way, there’s no way he would have stuck with the team for as long as he did  if he didn’t. But people cracked under the tiresome efforts of your occupation sometimes. You’d seen many of your teammates go through it before, so you understood. Truth be told, you were near cracking yourself, but you were a much more private person than Pietro.

“I know Piet, but there’s nothing we can do right now. We’ve already called Steve, he said that they’ll be able to clear the snow in a few hours. All we need to do is hang tight until then, okay? Then you’ll be free to do whatever you so desire” you said, attempting to calm some of the anger you had invoked in the speedster.

He sighed and looked at the door a few more seconds, as if deliberating if it was worth trying to slam into it one last time. Slowly, he turned towards you nodding

“You’re right. I..uh…sorry” he sighed, slowly becoming more calm.

“Sorry to tease” you smiled warmly.

At that he scoffed.

“Oh please, you’re not sorry at all” he replied with a playful smile, walking closer towards you.

“Okay, no maybe I’m not” you chuckled.

Sitting down on the couch, you looked at your window completely covered in white. Although Steve said he had people coming, it would surely be awhile before help came. You weren’t the only ones in your neighborhood in your position. Avengers or not, you and Pietro would have a pretty long wait ahead of you.

“So what shall we do?” You asked

“Well we just got up, so we can’t just sleep. The T.V signals down. Do you have any movies? Or food?” He asked

“You’re asking me if I have food?” You raised an eyebrow.

“No I know you have food. I just mean good food. Something besides hummus and crackers” he teased.

“So now you’re criticizing my food choices huh? Dick.” You smiled heading towards your kitchen.

Lazily opening your fridge  you were surprised to see that you didn’t have as much food as you thought you did. A jar of peanut butter, hummus, a can of smoked oysters, kraft dinner, some soup, and a loaf of bread.

“So no then” you heard a voice say right beside your ear.

startled, you jumped back into Pietro, who was now laughing his head off

He knew you hated it when he used his powers to sneak up on you, so of course he did it as often as he could.

“Fine then, no food” you shurg

“Oh c'mon Y/N, can I not have a little fun?” He said wiggling his eyebrows

Reaching into your fridge he pulled out the first thing his hand came into contact with.

“i very much like” he furrowed his eyebrows “smoked oysters? What the hell Y/N?” He laughed

You chuckled in response “they’re good. If you like them so much, go ahead and have them” you said knowing full well he hated seafood of any kind.

“Well, maybe later” he said

“We could watch a movie? How’s that for a relaxing day?” You smiled

Pietro walked closer to you, crossing his arms.

“Are you referring to…what is it called?.. Netflix and chill?” He smirked

You scrunched your face and pushed him away

“I’m not having sex with you Pietro”

“Sex with you? What are-”

“I know you like to joke but that’s a little far, don’t you think?”

“Y/N why would I have sex with you? Is Netflix not a movie provider?”

“Yes it is! And the chill…do you not know what Netflix and chill is Pietro?” You raised an eyebrow

“I..uh…is it not watching movie while ‘chilling’? Relaxing? I do not understand how you think I am asking for sex” he said, genuinely confused

Embarrassed, you felt a blush creep to your cheeks.

“Oh God. I’m sorry. I..well… Netflix and chill is a reference for sex. I thought you knew that, sorry Piet.”

He smiled “its fine Y/N, don’t worry” he paused “I mean, unless you do-”

“Oh my God” you said putting your head in your hands

The Maximoff laughed “I’m just kidding Y/N please. I’d like to think I’m more classy than that. Really, what movies do you have? We’ve only burned” he looked at the clock “7 minutes” he said.

“I have a shelf in the living room” you said, walking towards it, Pietro following not far behind.

It took you around 20 minutes to finally choose a movie. You only had about 15 in your apartment but Pietro was quite picky with what he wanted to watch. Finally, you convinced him that ‘The Outsiders’ was a good enough choice.

“How good can a movie be with a guy called ‘Ponyboy’ in it?” He asked

“Trust me Piet, its a classic” you replied putting the disc into the DVD player.

“Okay, I’ll trust you on this one” he smirked

“Good, as you should” you said, mirroring his expression.

You grabbed two blankets for each of you from the closet and you both settled in.

“This is not so bad” Pietro mumbled a few minutes into the movie

You looked over at him with a small smile

“see? I told you it was good”

“No, well..it is. I’m talking about today” he said, meeting your eyes

“Yeah, movie days are always good. Back to the grind before we know it though”

“Don’t remind me” Pietro groaned. “Though we are on a mission in Spain on Tuesday, that won’t be so bad I suppose”

“Well, someone’s gotta save the world” you smiled.

He chuckled, “yeah, someone”

Steve texted you about an hour later, saying that they’d be there within the next hour and a half, both to yours and Pietro’s excitement. But in the meantime, you were both perfectly content watching movies and laying on the couch.

Although you both were trapped by 10 feet of snow, it was looking to be a great day after all.

I’m about to go to bed but I wanted to post this real quick.
I just got home from work, and I have to be there again at 8am tomorrow.

I woke up and went for a run this morning, and it was really nice. I was supposed to work from 1-6pm but I was asked to stay until 9pm. I did not bring food or money with me so I wasn’t able to eat anything…

I ate a bunch of yummy stuff when I got home though. Apple and peanut butter, celery and hummus, and an oatmeal cookie.

I feel so tired! But it was a pretty good day. 😄

my-vegetarian-journey  asked:

I have just become a vegetarian, is there any 'cupboard essentials' you would recommend I stock up on?

Good question!! Here are some of my favorite cupboard essential items:

-peanut butter
-nuts
-hummus
-a favorite veggie, and a favorite fruit
-Cliff protein bars (they’re vegan yay!) and Lara bars
-rice/quinoa/whole grain bread/oatmeal
-eggs (unless you are vegan)
-almond milk and cereal
-beans
-canned soups
-chips and salsa/guacamole

…maybe that was more than you were looking for haha, but that’s what I came up with when I thought about things I buy every time I’m at the grocery store :)

If anybody else has suggestions please respond, I could use some cupboard sprucing up myself!

What is a healthy crunchy, lightly salted snack? I'm taking finals right now and all I want are potato chips and fries. I know I'm not going to be the healthiest this week, but I don't want to resort to that!

- mixed nuts
- pretzels with hummus
- veggie sticks with hummus
- peanut butter with apple slices
- peanut butter with crackers/pretzels
- I have a break fast cookie recipe on “my recipes” page, it’s simple. Nothing but oats, bananas, and whatever mix-ins you want. You can even add some extra salt to give a salted flavor to chocolate and berry mix ins.
