Happy 100th birthday to Lassen Volcanic National Park! Underneath this California park’s serene surface lies magma, which creates volcanoes and hydrothermal features like boiling pools, gurgling mudpots and steaming ground. Lassen Volcanic is one of the only places in the world where you can see all four types of volcanoes – you can even hike each type! Sunset photo courtesy of Beth Young.

We all need space and reflection. Like ocean waves, we must retreat first before we can build more strength in what we’re doing. This reveals itself in almost all areas of life: work, love, friendship, fitness, flexibility, connection, creativity. Trust these natural cycles.

High up the the Sangre De Cristo Range you can find endless lakes to reflect towering peaks like this.  This particular valley that holds the three Macey Lakes lays off the beaten path at 12,000 feet above sea level.  I spent 3 days there a few years ago, and this was the only sunrise on that trip.  A few hours after this golden sunrise, monsoon moisture moved in and rained on us for the next two days.
