SS13 Bridal and Prom Hair Styling

Big buns, and plaits with more of a “lived in" tousled texture have been in high demand this season and I am thoroughly enjoying creating them!

My top tips for creating beautiful on trend plaits is to start them sleek then ruffle them up a bit with a styling dust or powder. My favourite is Evo’s Haze. Powders create a matte finish and texture to the hair and also help to hold shape and volume. Don’t be afraid to mess it up a little and ruffle out the hair. It’ll help the style breathe and feel more effortless, and it’s gorgeous to see the hair move and come to life on your client or model.

A big bun is such a statement, I think of it as smart meets glamorous! You can create them to be simple or to be embellished with plaits or accessories. My favourite was combining it with a plait.

I like to play with sectioning when creating updo’s and those Hair Bungee’s you’ve walked past in your local cosmetics departments and thought, “What are they for? Just use a hairband!“ (Something I’ve witnessed and had to restrain myself from correcting :D ). Well, next time pick some up and start enjoying a much fre-er way of tying up hair without snags, lumps and bumps!

Now most of the styles above I created using my clients own beautiful locks, but two ladies in there have extensions for a little help. Clip in extensions or hair wefts are perfect for adding extra length, volume or shape to your updo’s. I have even been able to cover up a super short asymmetric haircut using them (because we felt the occasion should hide this more extreme shape); and make it look my client had long hair put up into a bun. I always get my extensions from Clip Hair Ltd. The quality is superb and the price is perfect for those on a budget. And you can absolutely use them again and again to create other styles, just look after them!

Big thank you to all my clients for being so fabulous this Spring/Summer and letting me create these styles for you, and its not over yet! The sun will be back out (fingers crossed) and there are many more weddings, proms and events that require some Peachy Hair!
