Ugh. SOPA and PIPA are postponed but not cancelled, and they’ll be reintroduced at a later time or attached to the bottom of some other bill that has to be passed. I doubt the Internet community has the attention span and patience to stop it again. Plus, the ACTA is going to screw us over since the ACTA is international and secretive (“"The negotiations for the ACTA treaty were conducted behind closed doors until a series of leaked documents relating to the negotiations emerged.”), AND the Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 may eventually get passed (Internet providers keep a record of everything that you’ve accessed in the last 18 months, perfect for privacy invasion, blackmail). Seems like we might as well give up now. :(

All Americans are Suspected Terrorists (by alisonserr)

“Only YOU have the power to change this world for the better. "If you don’t fight for your rights, they don’t exist. Our constitution doesn’t mean a damn thing if we the people don’t stand up for it.” Or just go back to sleep. Maybe we’ll get adjoining cells one day.“

Thoughts on Black March (I don't think it's enough)

Now I know the reason why we’ll be up in arms to not buy anything from the media industry, but why only March? Wouldn’t we make a larger impact with several months of the black out? Someone did make a point of saying that the companies would probably prep themselves for the month-long protest. So this has me thinking about stretching the Black March all the way to the end of spring (June 1st), or if we’re hardcore enough, to the end of summer (to September 1st) … . Or even to March 2013 if we want extreme. Think about how much bigger that profit black hole is going to be if we stretch it out longer.

If you can’t live without the media for more than a month, it’s okay. I know, it’s like a drug sometimes. You can say that it’s like taking a vacation from the media or rehab, whichever one works for you. What I want to say is that we should probably try for maximum damage for the loudest message we can broadcast to the media industry.

Not saying everyone should do it. The extended blackout idea is just an idea. The whole thing, like the original Black March, is completely voluntary.

another post because I think readmore doesn't work twice on a reblog dunno

okay i’m going to respond to this in a new thread because i legitimately do not understand the severity of government privacy invasions (also it’s a larger typing box without the link in the way)

and read more holy shit this was longer than i had expected it’d be

So I’ve been re-watching old episodes of The I.T. Crowd via Netflix. I remember when this episode first aired, thinking that at least the Anti-Piracy measures weren’t as OTT as in the clip…

Funny how times change aint it.

A sad thing is that stuff like ACTA and PCIPA have been around for a while too but a majority of us have just now become aware of their existence.

better late-ish than never in this case i guess

who knows what else might exist?

also there are a lot of issues that aren’t internet-related but let’s talk about that next time
