pay your way

I recently saw a video of a young woman talking about all of the reasons our generation, the Millennials, sucks and that’s she’s sorry for what we’ve become. Here is my, a fellow Millennial, response:

You say we’re just ‘existing’ and not ‘contributing anything to society.’ The oldest Millennial is 34, the youngest is 12, we haven’t had time to contribute anything yet. We’re trying to survive in a world that no other generation has had to grow up in, with a tanked economy and most of our childhood hearing nothing but war in the Middle East on the news while also being profoundly connected. We didn’t do that.

You say we’re no longer polite, we don’t say ‘no, sir’ or ‘no ma’am’ anymore and we no longer hold the door open for our elders or women. We also don’t expect low-paid workers to break their backs for us, or at yell at them when they make a mistake, like my 60-year-old grandfather does. We say ‘no problem’ when there’s a mistake in order, and politely stand by while the 40-something-year-old soccer mom huffs and rolls her eyes as the new girl struggles to punch in the correct code.

You say our music objectifies women and glorifies drugs and criminals. There has been no significant change from the songs that were once sung or the singers who sang them. Many of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s performers were drug addicts, womanizers, and criminals in their own right. Elvis Presley was child abuser, John Lennon raped his many girlfriends and most of the music I grew up listening, which was 80’s rock, were performed by habitual drug abusers. Let’s not pretend like human nature took a drastic turn when 1983 rolled around.

You say we cuss to prove a point. We, as a generation, have learned it’s not the words we fucking use, it’s the passion in them that we care about. As a generation, we’ve become more interested in politics and the world around us, cursing is minor problem when we consider the political climate the older generation has plunged us into.

You say we use ‘bae’ to describe the ones we love. Bae, originally, means ‘before anyone else’ which is incredibly romantic in my opinion. Bae is also hardly ever taken seriously, it’s a jokey way to talk about someone you love. Language changes, I doubt people were happy when we changed ‘wherefore’ into ‘why.’ The greatest injustice we can do to our language and culture is not allow it to evolve and grow with us.

You say we idolize people like Kim Kardashian and shame people like Tim Tebow. Kim Kardashian is a business woman who had a private video she made with a lover illegally revealed. Instead of fading into obscurity, she stood tall and did not let the sexual shaming she endured stop her and now runs a multi-million dollar industry, is married to one of the richest men in the world, and had two beautiful children. Tim Tebow is a Christian who was criticized by a few people for praying in an open stadium while most people just wanted to see a game.

You say we’re lazy and entitled, we want to make a lot of money and get a free education but we’re not willing to put in the work. We are not lazy. I cannot tell you how many people I meet who have gone to school full time while working a part or even full-time job just to make ends meet. We’re not entitled, we’re bitter. In the 70’s, you could work a part time job over the summer and pay your way through four years of school because tuition was $400, now just to walk in the door of your local community college you need to drop $14,000. We have kids who aren’t even old enough to drink, yet are already $20,000 deep in debt. Debt that won’t go away because even filing for bankruptcy won’t erase it. And even with that education, there’s no guarantee you’ll find something in your field. I have a friend who has a degree in microbiology and she’s making $9 an hour selling $15 candles. I have another friend who has a masters in Sport Psychology and Counseling. She’s a bartender. My parents bought a three bedroom house in the suburbs in the late 90’s while my generation is imagining apartments with breezy windows and trying to get enough money to get food while we scrounge up less than $8 a week.

You say we spend more time online making friends and less time building relationships and our relationship’s appearance on Facebook is more important than building the foundation that relationship is based on. We are a generation that is profoundly connected and no other generation has seen this before. We have more opportunities to meet people from all over the world and better chances to understand other worldviews and lifestyles. Being able to stay home and talk to people over the internet is cheaper and more relaxing than having to force yourself to interact with people in public settings after a long day of minimum wage labor. The people I talk to more over the internet are people I have been friends with for years. It’s easier to talk about the day’s events over Skype or Facebook Messenger than arrange a day to meet in person when you have conflicting schedules. I truly don’t believe most people care what others think of their friendship or how their relationships ‘look’ on social media. Most often what you are calling ‘our relationship’s appearance on Facebook’ are documented and searchable memories.

You say our idea of what we believe in is going on Facebook and posting a status on Facebook. Not everyone can join in with the crowds of protesters. It’s easy to see what others have to say through the comments and argue back without the threat of violence. And when this generation does organize events to stand up for ourselves, it’s met with childish name-calling or being reduced to a ‘riot.’

You say we believe the number of follows we have reflects who we are as a person. It’s nice knowing there’s 20 or 50 or maybe even 100 people who care what you have to say or think. We live in an age where we can and will be heard.

You say we don’t respect our elders, that we don’t respect our country. Our elders grew up in one of the greatest economic booms in history and in turn made it the worst economic situation since the 1930’s all while blaming kids who were only five at the time for it. We stand on our flag because it means nothing, it’s a pretty banner for an ugly lie. We’re a country that says you can make it if you just work hard enough while, in the end, that will almost never happen. We’re a country that becomes irate at the idea of 20-something college kids standing on some canvas dyed red, white, and blue but seem to shrug off the millions of homeless, disabled veterans.

You say we’re more divided than ever before. Ever before what? When black folk couldn’t drink from the same fountain as white folk? When women couldn’t vote? When white southerners fought for the idea that they could keep black people as slaves? We’re a generation that is done with injustice and when you fight for social change, you will divide people.

You say everything that was frowned up is celebrated. What does that mean? We frowned up gay marriage. We frowned upon wives being able to say no to sex with their husbands. We frowned up interracial marriage. We frowned up black folk being allowed to go to school with white folk. We frowned upon women being allowed to vote. Are those things not worth celebrating?

You say nothing has value in our generation, that we take advantage of everything. We value friendship more, we value the fists of change, we value social justice and family and the right to marry those we love. We value the right to be yourself, wholly and fully. We value the right to choose and we value the idea of fighting what you believe in, even when everyone older than you is telling you you’re what’s wrong with the country.

You say we have more opportunities to succeed than those before but we don’t ‘appreciate’ them. We are a bitter generation. You can finance a boat for 3.9% but you have to pay back college tuition plus 8.9%. We may have more opportunities but those opportunities cost money we don’t have.

You say you can see why we’re called ‘Generation,’ but we’re not Generation Y, we’re Millennials and we do feel entitled. We were promised a strong economy and inexpensive education. We had the world in our hands and we were going to make it better. And it was ripped away from us because of incompetent rulers, illegal wars, and greedy corporations and we get blamed for it. Crime has gone down, abortion and unintended pregnancy has lowered, people are living longer, people are more educated, people are less likely to die from violent crime or diseases, yet my generation is touted as the worst generation and for what? Crimes that we’re accused of that happened before we could even wipe our own ass? We were raised better, and we were raised in a society that treated, and continues to treat, us like garbage. And we are done. We are not sorry, we did nothing wrong.

Massive update on safe mode

Okay, first off. I’m sorry. Everybody was in the heat of the moment and reacted terribly with the new update. I was a big part in that and I feel bad about it. But there are some new things going on with the update that they have fixed/explained to us.

#1 : Replied to my email about the issue.

(Image - Tumblr Trust and Safety replying with this:

Hello,

We appreciate you writing in about this. We’ve heard from a bunch of users that Safe Mode was filtering posts from the LGBTQ+ community even though they were completely innocuous and totally safe-for-work. Please know that was never our intention, and we appreciate you letting us know so quickly—and forcefully! We’re deeply sorry. Tumblr will always be a place where everyone is welcome and protected, so we want to explain what happened.

The major issue was some Tumblrs had marked themselves as Adult/NSFW (now Explicit) as a courtesy to their fellow users, and their perfectly safe posts were getting marked sensitive unintentionally. That should never have happened. We’re sorry.

We invite you to check out the post on our Staff blog for more details on what happened and what were doing to improve things: https://staff.tumblr.com/post/162178688374/safe-mode-update

Thanks again,
Tumblr Trust & Safety )

First off, I’d like to thank them for answering so quickly and responsibly. They fully explained the issue to me in a very adult manor and I very much appreciate that.

Second, they actually gave me a explanation for the issue unlike most staff/helpers online. Which i again, very much appreciate.

#2: They are trying to fix the issue as quickly as they can without 100% removing the feature.

This, to me, is very understandable. the update on staff’s official blog is this:

Hi Tumblr—

We’ve heard from a bunch of you that Safe Mode was filtering posts from the LGBTQ+ community even though they were completely innocuous and totally safe-for-work.

We’re making some changes that should improve things:

Changes to self-marked blogs

What was happening: Because we consider Explicit blogs to be predominantly sensitive content, we were automatically marking all their posts as sensitive. That was too broad.

What we fixed: Now each post is classified individually. As they should be.

Changes to reblog chains

What was happening: If an Explicit Tumblr reblogged a safe post, we were marking that reblog as sensitive. This was even happening to text posts. Which is silly.

What we fixed: We changed the logic so that if the OP is safe, all its reblogs will also be safe.

Changes to photosets

What’s (still) happening: When you make a photo post, a computer algorithm classifies the image as safe or sensitive. It’s a machine so it’s not perfect. And the chances go up with photosets because there are multiple images. But out of an abundance of caution we keep posts marked sensitive until the OP requests a human review (by tapping the appeal button on their posts).

What we’re working on: We plan to have photosets analyzed as a whole group, rather than as individual images. That should reduce the number of mistakes the machine makes.

Safe Mode is supposed to make sure people aren’t surprised by things may not want to see—specifically, nudity. It might take some time to get it perfect, but we’re committed to getting there with your help. Our algorithms will keep getting smarter as you give feedback on misclassified posts, and as you share your concerns and suggestions.

❤️

And finally, please stop attacking staff with this issue. They are trying to help us and do not want to hurt us. You are simply putting them under much more pressure and stress than helping. They are not trying to hurt us. Stop attacking them over this.

I will email them and contact them with further issues about this, thank you.

His uncle Gerion liked to set him on the table during feasts and make him recite them. I liked that well enough, didn’t I? Standing there amongst the trenchers with every eye upon me, proving what a clever little imp I was. For years afterward, he had cherished a dream that one day he would travel the world and see Longstrider’s wonders for himself.
Lord Tywin had put an end to that hope ten days before his dwarf son’s sixteenth nameday, when Tyrion asked to tour the Nine Free Cities, as his uncles had done at that same age. “My brothers could be relied upon to bring no shame upon House Lannister,” his father had replied. “Neither ever wed a whore.” And when Tyrion had reminded him that in ten days he would be a man grown, free to travel where he wished, Lord Tywin had said,No man is free. Only children and fools think elsewise. Go, by all means. Wear motley and stand upon your head to amuse the spice lords and the cheese kings. Just see that you pay your own way and put aside any thoughts of returning.”

They’re so cute when they’re asleep

Request:Can you do Drabble 6 & 14 combined like maybe in the avengers tower 😉😉

Okay I know I’m requesting imagines like crazy, but could I request 11, 12, and 14 with Peter Parker? Something where the Avengers tease the reader and Peter (but especially the reader) because they have crushes on each other? Thank you so, so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A/N: Okay so this is me attempting to use the prompts “I need a place to stay”, “they’re so cute when they’re alseep,” , “ this is by far the stupidest plan you’ve ever had. Of course I’m in,” , “ the way you flirt is shameful,” , “ it’s just rain you aren’t gonna melt,”………. lets see how this goes

“Mr Stark, I-I was wondering if you could help me with something,”

“Is it your Spanish homework? ‘cause you’d have better luck talking to a wall than asking me for help,”

“No no, it’s not that, I asked this girl out on a date and-”

Tony dropped everything, and finally looked at Peter fully attentive, and interrupted his spiel, “Please tell me it was y/n you asked,” he appealed. Peter scrunched his eyebrows, confused at how Mr. Stark easily guessed who. He stuttered over his words, unable to reply, “Friday, tell Nat that she owes me $10″

Peter’s confusion morphed into shock, “Were you guys betting on us?” he asked in disbelief, as the computer system replied to his request,

“I was, Natasha not so much,” Tony answered nonchalantly, “she figured you’d never work up the courage. As per-usual, I was right,”

Peter was at a loss for words. Although, he did feel a little sense of reassurance that Mr. Stark had some faith in him,

“Anyways, continue,” Tony pushed,

“Okay, so, I’m taking her out tonight, and I’m really nervous-”

“Predictable,”

“and I just don’t want to mess this up, so I was hoping you’d be willing to help me out by kind of being my, wing-man,”

“your wing-man?”

“Yeah,”

There was a pause between the two, as Tony blinked at the young boy,

“That was a little on the vague side, so right now my answer is no, I’m not chaperoning two school kids’ date,” He said turning away from Peter, and returning to his work,

“Where is it you’re taking her?” Peter heard a feminine voice ask behind him. He jumped slightly and looked to find Natasha strutting her way towards the two. He hesitated before answering her, “I don’t know, I was thinking, dinner then a movie?” he said, more as a question than a statement.

“Boring!” Tony exclaimed, not bothering to face them.

Peter sighed and slouched, “Well y/n’s never been on a date before. If you do it right, then it’d be the perfect night,” Nat pointed out,

“Exactly, so I was hoping that, if I wore an earpiece, then Mr. Stark could kind of coach me through it,” Peter suggested warily.

Nat shook her head, “You want Tony Stark as you’re wing-man?” she asked pointing to the man. Peter nodded his head, “This is, by far, the stupidest plan you’ve ever had,” she deadpanned.

Tony swirled around in his chair, with a mischievous smirk, “And with me, being an intellectual, of course I’m in,”

You couldn’t tell what you were feeling. Some of it was happiness that Peter Parker has finally asked you out, which was followed by nervousness because of the fact that you’d be going on a date with him. A part of you felt sick, and horrible because the possibility of this date ending terribly and therefore ruining a perfectly good friendship was looming above you.

You and Peter had been friends for years, having gone to the same school together and sharing some of the same assignments that Tony gives you. You were always called in on the less extreme tasks, due to having no superpowers but mad combat skills.

You huffed yet again as you stood in front of your mirror, and smoothed down your outfit. Screw it, you thought, and waited out in your living room for Peter.

Peter took deep breathes as he approached your door. A sweat began to break out on his forehead, “Have you reached the door yet?” Tony asked in his ear. Peter sighed, this was the fourth time he’s asked, “Yes,” Peter snapped in a hushed tone,

“About time. Now knock,”

“I figured that much out for myself actually,”

“Don’t get snippy with me, you asked for my help,”

“I’m beginning to regret it,” Peter groaned, before knocking on your door.

Your head shot to the direction of the door, before getting up and slowly opening it.

Peter stood with a wide smile, cherry red cheeks and a bunched bouquet of pink roses. Your cheeks flushed to match his, as you gasped, “Peter,” you drew out. This made his smile beam a little more. You smiled along with him and giggled from his kind gesture, “Come in,” you welcomed him, opening your door wider.

You turned away, and buried your nose in the flower pedals.

“Did she like the flowers?” Tony asked Peter,

“I-I think,” Peter quickly whispered under his breath, making sure you wouldn’t notice.

You place the bouquet in a vase and made your way back to Peter, “Ready to go?” he smiled at you.

“Tell her she looks nice,” Peter’s wing-man pestered,

“You-” he began, but was cut of,

“Unless she doesn’t, then scratch that. Wait maybe you should tell her anyway,”

Looking at Peter confusingly, you cocked an eyebrow. He gave you a reassuring smile, and placed a hand on your lower back, “You look good tonight,” he complimented, “you always look good,” he emphasized more for Tony to take a hint,

“smooth, spidey,” you commented, letting him lead you out of your place,

“That compliment was more for me. I’m taking it.”

It felt unusual, to be on a date with Peter Parker. A date that didn’t involve studying with an old friend, but more so, a night with a different unusual feeling between you two with formal clothes and flattery.

Your heart pounded a little harder and breath hitched when Peter showed off his goofy smile. You weren’t sure if you had ever felt that way before, but it doesn’t matter, because you’re feeling it now with Peter.

You had finished eating and were now relaxing at the table.

“Have I already told you how amazing you look tonight?” Peter asked you, eyes glazed over in a daze,

“This is the third time probably,” you answered with a sweet smile and rosey cheeks,

The way you flirt is shameful. She’s already sick of it,” Peter heard Tony.

He pursed his lips, “Who taught you? You’re just repeating the same things. Was it May?”

“Oh wow look at it pour outside,” Peter spoke distracting himself from Tony,

“Nice try, I’m still here,”

“Do you want to wait in here till it stops?” Peter offered you,

“It’s just rain, you aren’t going to melt,”

“Tony!”

Swinging your head around from the window to Peter, you repeated, “Tony?”

Peter’s mouth bobbed, his eyes grew to saucers. You gave him a side glance, “Is he here?” you pondered suspiciously.

“um-uh-n-no”

“Think of something quick, underoos,”

“I just- uh- just remembered that Tony, offered for us to watch a movie at the tower…..tonight,” Peter squeaked

“No I didn’t,”

“He did?”

“Y-yeah, he figured that that would be better than us spending money at the theater, or just me spending money, and you fighting me to pay your way in,” Peter explained uncomfortably, unsure if what he said came out right.

“That’s a little uncharacteristic of him,” you pointed out,

He searched and searched his brain to quickly produce a reasonable explanation for “Tony’s proposal”. An unusually sly smirk skipped across Peter’s lips as he thought back to how outraged he felt when discovering that the two Avengers betting on and against him and his crush,

“Yeah well, he owes us one,”

“Be ready for ridicule,”

The Wooden Bead - Jeff Atkins x Reader

Request - “Hello can I request a very tomboy and boyish reader x Jeff?”

(I’m English so i don’t know if this will be any kind of inaccurate, I’ve struggled with using ‘soccer’ here instead of ‘football’, sorry if there are any mishaps. Also I hope this is kind of what you envisioned!)

“PARSONS, OVER HERE! PARSONS I’M OPEN GODDAMMIT!” You screamed at your teammate, who was refusing to pass you the ball.
“DON’T FUCKING PASS IT TO KING! Oh, you fucking did it. Idiot.” You spoke more to yourself.

—–

“What the hell, Parsons? You saw I was free but you blatantly ignored me?” You confronted the stocky girl in front of you. Although much smaller than her, you packed a mean punch and would be happy to show anyone what happens when they cross you. You weren’t really into stereotypically ‘girly’ things, you were more boyish in your mannerisms, look, and activities, but stereotypes in general pissed you off, despite the fact you probably fit quite well into the tomboy category.

“Sorry, I just didn’t feel like passing to you, L/N.” she brushed you off. You scoffed. She was unbelievable.

“You knew I was your best bet. I can’t believe you lost that for us.” You shook your head.

“It’s not my fault you can’t play soccer, L/N. there’s no hiding Coach’s charity case this year.” Romelda Parsons spat. There was no such thing as Coach letting on a charity case each year, she was just trying to intimidate you. The snooty brunette girl had been jealous ever since you’d joined the team, purely because you were so much better than her - maybe the best on the team, and coach paid far more attention to you than to her.

You were ready to show her.
“You little-” an arm eased you back, and another was put up to Parsons face.

“Easy, easy.” A smooth, calm voice interrupted your angry thoughts and soothed your boiling blood.

“Fuck off, Atkins.” Parsons gritted her teeth at the well-built honey-skinned boy holding you back.

“PARSONS! Over here now please!” Coach beckoned Romelda, and she almost snarled her teeth before walking off to talk to him.

The boy in front of you turned to face you. His blue eyes smiled at you while his lips did the same. He was wearing baseball gear, which fitted his muscles snugly. There was no denying the fact that he was insanely attractive.

You’d seen this boy around lots.

Jeff Atkins.

Loved by everyone, baseball player, popular, and you thought; way out of your league.

“You okay?” He asked with concern laced in his eyes.

“I can fight my own battles, thanks.” You muttered slightly, but stared him down nonetheless, you couldn’t let him know he phased you.

“That’s what I was worried about,” he chuckled. “1. You absolutely wreck Romelda, 2. Coach sees, 3. You get in trouble, 4. Maybe get a suspension, 5. I don’t see you playing soccer.” He smirked before continuing, “I can tell you pack a mean punch in there, Romelda wouldn’t stand a chance.”

You pretend to ignore everything he was saying, but really you were drinking in every detail.

“I know she wouldn’t.” You said defiantly.

You paused while you watched the way he grinned at your words and scratched his chin.

“I didn’t think Baseball practice was now?” You mused.

“It’s not.”

So, what was he doing nosing in your business anyhow?

“Why are you here?” You crossed your arms, your team had dissipated back to the changing rooms by now, and it was just you and Jeff on the field.

“I like to watch the girls soccer.”

“You perv!”

“Not like that! It’s just, you’re an awesome player and I hold great admiration for you, watching you play fuels me to play my own game.” He explained.

“Don’t be silly.” You scoffed.

“No, it sounds silly, but it isn’t. There’s something so clear about your passion that just makes me want to live my life.” He smirked, noticing your expression. “Don’t laugh at me, L/N.”

He knew your name??? He was just a boy from school, a boy way out of your league, who you’d never imagined knew of your existence. But instead, he was a boy who watched every soccer practice, complimented your play, and knew your name. You had to play it cool.

“I’ll keep a straight face, Atkins.”

“I should be off, we’ll be practicing soon and I wanna get a few hits in myself before the team comes, but thanks for entertaining me.” He started off, and you felt a pang of disappointment as he turned his back to you.

“Oh, and Y/N? That goal was incredible. Best thing I’ve seen in days.”

—-

It had been a few days since Jeff Atkins had saved your arch nemesis’ life, and incidentally pervaded into your life. He smiled at you in the corridors now, and you could’ve sworn he even winked once. On Tuesday, after a few judgemental comments about your clothing, you found a note in your locker;

You always look awesome Y/N. In fact, i might have to steal some clothes sometime. -J

Which you could only assume was from the man himself. On Thursday, Atkins slipped you the last chocolate muffin in the cafeteria. And on Friday, you had practice again.

Your play was slacking, your usual fire was off and you were distracted.

“L/N- pay attention! Ball coming your way!” Jess warned. You kicked your foot out just in time, but the hit was poor. You continually looked up at the bleachers, hoping to see Jeff watching you, but to no luck. His no show disappointed you.

—-

“What is wrong with you today, Y/N?” Jess caught you up after practice. She was clearly concerned.

“I don’t know, Jess, I guess today isn’t my day.” You sighed.

“You drop your lucky charm or something?”

“Something like that.”

The team left for the changing rooms and you slumped on the bottom row of the bleachers.

“So a lucky charm, huh?” You immediately knew the voice coming from above you. You turned and saw Jeff coming down the steps.

“I don’t have one.” You were blunt, you needed to remind yourself not to get feelings for a boy so out of your league.

“Maybe you should get one, you looked in need of one.” He slumped down next to you.

“Thanks, I appreciate the compliment.” The sarcasm dripped from your tongue.

“Not because you played badly by any means, but because you looked a little lost out there today.”

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me, my brain doesn’t appear to be working recently.”

Jeff dropped a wooden bead in your hand. It was nothing special, simple, wooden, spherical, with a hole in the middle. A plain wooden bead.

“Uh, thanks?” There was question in your voice.
He chuckled.

“It’s your new lucky charm. Don’t lose it, I promise it’ll help you win the match next week.” Sincerity coated his words and his eyes bore into yours, with a jokey overtone.

“I will keep it close. But I might wash it first, if you found it on the floor.” Of course, you didn’t really care where it had been, and you wouldn’t really wash it, but you were curious as to where it had appeared from.

“Don’t worry, it wasn’t on the floor.” He chuckled again, and started to stand. “I’ll see you around, L/N. Keep an eye out for me at the match.” He winked before walking off.

—–

You squeezed the bead tightly before placing it back in your gym bag. The game was starting, and you were not ready.

Obviously, all your nerves went out the window after your third goal of the match, at only 20 minutes in.

You won, which was no surprise to everyone, except you. You spotted Jeff making his way down the stairs and ran up to meet him.

“You were right! I can’t believe it worked!” You shone like the sun from happiness.

“I hate to say I told you so.” His eyes sparkled at you.

“It’s insane, you’re magic!” You mocked, feigning shock.

“What can I say?”

You smiled at each other for a moment, basking in your happiness.

“Actually, can I admit something embarrassing?” His tone turned awkward.

“You’re not magic?” You joked. He laughed.

“No, um, actually I was really nervous to talk to you. Seeing Romelda and you at each other’s throats the other weeks sent me into immediate rescue mode, (not that you need rescuing), and I didn’t realise until the adrenaline had worn off that I’d actually ended up speaking to you, but by that point I was too far in my rescue.”

You laughed at the idea of Jeff Atkins being scared to talk to you.

“You’re just so cool. You don’t care what anyone thinks, you’re passionate, you’re an amazing player, I love your style, not to mention how smart and gorgeous you are.”
“What I admire most is honestly, how badass you are.”

You blushed, taking compliments was a struggle.

“Jeff stop messing, it’s not funny.” You rolled your eyes playfully.

“I’d never- this is the most embarrassing part-” he took a deep breath, “I sorta like you.”

You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Jeff Atkins? Likes you?

“You do?” Was all you could think to respond with.

“Yes.” He breathed, and moved closer to you.

“Is this-” he asked as he leaned in toward your face and cupped his hand on your cheek. You nodded forcibly in consent, before he pushed his lips onto yours.

After a while, and with regret, you broke off.

“But- you’re so out of my league.” You breathed, doubting yourself.

“I play baseball, Y/N, leagues are my thing.”

“Jeff! Please tell me you sent out the invites on your way home!” You screamed downstairs at your boyfriend.

“Of course I did!” He shouted back up.

You threw various wedding catalogues off the bed to reach the top you’d been looking for, before throwing it on.

“You ready babe?” Jeff yelled at you.

“Just coming!” You yelled back, before pulling out from under your top, a string, with a plain wooden bead on it.

Woman to woman

The short version:

If your man cant give you $100 when you need it, you shouldn’t be having sex with him. Period. And that was told to me by a man lol, this is not me being a gold digging bitch.

If you’re consistently paying your own way for everything and you’re spending your money to go see him, then you’re paying him to fuck you. Especially if he has money and knows that you don’t have it like that.

Am I lying? Think about it. Reevaluate your life. Love yourself. Recognize that there are real men out there. Someone that appreciates you will at the very gotdamn least take you on a real date and pay for your uber. It’s sad that this has to be said. Idk why y'all let men talk y'all into these type of relationships.

anonymous asked:

What would you personally do if you had a boyfriend for four years and realized he has lost all motivation, drive, ambition and all he wants to do now is sit around in the basement and smoke weed, playing video games? As you plan your future and he blames you for him having no money yet can buy $200 of weed every paycheque but can't take you out on a date unless you pay your own way? Doesn't live with you, doesn't pay for food when he visits hardly ever.... at 31 years of age

yuck I would leave. I work way too hard to waste my precious time and energy with a stagnant man and I’m worth more than to be stuck with a man who plays video games and smokes weed all day, God forbid. There’s women out there who love saving men like this, he can find one of those.

I really really love how Snow’s motifs are white. He’s very much one-sided on an issue, extreme to the absolute core. He is washed clean in an attempt to look pure- when really the white is just to cover up the blood.

I really love how Alma Coin’s motifs have always been grey. She’s neither good nor bad, just this very grey sense of morality. She’s trying so hard to keep it light, to be the good leader of District 13, but…… It’s ultimately good but… With shades of grey, you have to be careful not to fall off the deep end, to turn too dark or light a shade. When you’re operating in greys, it’s almost inevitable to shift too close to one or the other extremes. Julienne Moore does an excellent job of playing her; she just. GOSH, ends up feeling so manipulative, in very light and fairy-like ways (I’m not sure if that makes sense but wow!)

I really love how Katniss’ motifs have always been both black and red. She is both a direct opposite to Snow, and also her own. Her morals and her symbolic stance is 100% opposite that of Snow, but she isn’t just political tool, a foil. She isn’t just Black vs White, she’s also very red, full of rage and love for her family and just. Her own person. Love it.

Not sure how the yellow fits in yet, but I’ve kinda noticed that the yellow is very Effie and Haymitch. I wanna think it’s another tool for shades of grey, only yellow is good. Yellow is on the same side as red, but it’s not as fiery, it’s not as potent.

Look at Johanna? She’s all red too, isn’t she? No black, just. RED, she’s angry, and fiery and passionate without the strict moral foil that Katniss has. dfalskjfalsdjfa;klj

Gale is almost all blacks; he’s too extreme. He’s black without Katniss’ red, without the fire and the passion, and it ends up consuming him way too much.

EVEN CAESAR it’s like?? He’s blue blue blue, he’s cool, he’s calm, he’s a cool grey blue and it just. FUCK it fits so well.

I just really love how the color schemes in these movies really REALLY hammer in these personalities and the ultimate arcs of the characters by pushing certain color schemes (I honestly can’t remember how strict the color schemes are to the books; only going off the movies). It’s so good.

I don't want to bother I'm sure you have lots of asks about the dragon s, but if you haven't received it or done it perhaps a rose quartz dragon that basically plays match maker because it can see the connections between soul mates? If that's not too silly or sappy for you

You should work with rose quartz. Rose quartz is the stone of the heart. The stone of love. More like rose quartz is the stone of the needy little dragon the size of a small cat that is decimating your flower garden and won’t leave your poor apprentices alone. Rose quartz is the dragon that steals your tools and your lunch and presents them as gifts to the gruff florist across the street. The dragon that chimes softly and tilts its head just so whenever you threaten to ship it to somewhere else. Somewhere far away. Rose quartz is the dragon that curls up contentedly on the stove when you’re done cooking dinner and okay maybe there is such thing as unconditional love after all.

Warnings: none

You were laying in bed looking at the ceiling. You didn’t have any position that was comfortable to lay down at the moment. You looked at the clock on the bedside table. 3.00 AM. “Pff.” You sat on the edge of the bed and rubbed your belly. “I know, I know I’m getting something to eat.” You stand up and made your way towards the kitchen.

You opened the fridge, there was anything in it just beer. You looked down at your belly. “I think we need to get something.”

The 24/7 shop was just a few streets down, it was 3 am but you grew up here you felt safe in this neighborhood. You made your way towards the door and got you jacket and your purse.

You locked the door behind you and made your way towards the 24/7 shop. The moon shining your way towards the shop.

You entered the shop and the cashier gave you a smile. You walked to the refrigerator to get yourself some ice cream. You took some strawberry ice cream and walked to the cashier to pay it and made your way home again.

You were almost home when you heard some voices behind you.

“Hey!” You heard a man’s voice behind you.

You looked backward and saw two men walk towards you. There were getting closer and closer. You turned forward and kept walking home, you began to walk faster and faster.

“Come on lady, we just want to ask for directions.” One of the voices said it sounded that a few seconds ago.

You don’t react to the voices and just kept looking forward. Your heart beat increasing with every step you took.

“Hey..” One of them said grabbing your arm and pulling you to look towards him.

“Let me go.”  You said looking the man in the eyes. You tried to look at him with a straight face, trying not to show any fear at him.

Am I scaring you? Sweetie” The man said, he still had his hand on your arm.

“I think we are..” the other man said.

The man in front of you just got a devilish smile on his face. His hand tightened around your arm pulling you closer to him.

“Hey, let her go.” you heard Jax voice.

“This none of your business, keep walking.” The man said.

“I said, Let her go,” Jax said again. He was now standing in next to you. His hand pulling his jacket open just a little bit just to show his gun.

The man lets your arm go and took a step back from you. “Take it easy man, we were just talking.”

“The talk is over, go away,” Jax said.

The men run away, Jax looked at you and pulled you closer to him.

“Are you okay? Did they hurt you?” He asked looking you from head to toe.

“I’m fine…” You said to him.

“What were you thinking? They can hurt you? Hurt the baby..” He says placing a hand on your belly. He looked you in the eyes. “Why were you even outside so late?”

You gave him a fake smile. “I was hungry. I’m sorry”

He shakes his head. He looked at you and gets a little smile on his face. “Next time call me, I will get you something or we will go together.”

Summary: One night you met Xiumin in an illegal casino and he made you an offer you couldn’t refuse: help him win by cheating and get part of the profit. But one day someone comes in and tests your partnership and relationship. Will you stick with Xiumin? Or will Baekhyun steal you away?

“I don’t believe you.” You shake his hands away from your face and turn to leave, but he grabs your arm.

“Please don’t go.” He pleaded, tears falling down his cheeks.

“If it’s really true that it was real for you, then you’re going to let me go.”

He lingered a bit but eventually he let go of your arm and watched as you entered the car and left him standing there alone and crying. He played dirty with you and now he was paying the price.

On your way back home to Xiumin you thought about everything that hapened in the past few days. How could you let yourself be fooled by Baekhyun? Were you really that much of a fool to think that a man would just simply give you the money he just won from you back? How could you let yourself open up to him and trust him? How could you doubt Xiumin and betray him with a man you barely knew? You were angry at Baekhyun, but you were mostly angry at yourself.

When you arrived home you heard Xiumin talking on his phone. “We have to suspend everything, I have to lay low now.”

You entered the room and cleared up your throat to announce yourself.

“I’ll give you more details when I’m safe.” He said, noticeably disturbed.

Loving him was Red. Burning Red.

Prompt: Soulmate AU. Both you and your soulmate are born color blind until you meet each other.

Pairing: Reader x Jason Todd/Red Hood

Warning: Angst, tragedy, death, blood.

Author’s note: I’m secretly the biggest Taylor Swift fan ever so I casually slipped in some lyrics. But not enough to consider this a songfic. Sorry, not sorry that this fic is so long. I thought about making this a two-part series but changed my mind at the last minute. Needless to say, I may have gotten carried away. On a totally unrelated note, I’m from Canada so writing this fic felt extremely weird since we spell the words “color” and “gray” differently. That being said, get your tissue box ready and prepare to have your heart torn out of your chest in the most gruesome way imaginable.

The idea of having a soulmate has always been very abstract to you. Though the notion of soulmates has been explained to you time and time again, you never seemed to be able to grasp the concept.

Perhaps it’s because it’s merely impossible to describe color to a color-blind person. Since it’s literally impossible to imagine a color; when your parents and teachers told you about such an obscure concept you were unable to truly understand. Sure, the theory behind it all made sense. In your physics class, you had learned all about the different wavelengths. Heck, you had even gotten a perfect score on your exam!

Maybe your lack of comprehension regarding the matter derived from the fact that soulmates were extremely rare. Only select few were lucky enough to marry their soulmates. The odds were stacked against you. Even your physics teacher couldn’t see colors. The very person to teach you about the principles behind this spectacular phenomenon had never experienced it. Ergo, how could you possibly be expected to fully understand?

Despite your dearest efforts, having never known a life that wasn’t black, white and a million shades of gray, picturing the world in color simply couldn’t be done. You’d stay up late at night trying to visualize what it would be like to acquire this magnificent gift. Whenever you came across a lucky star or a birthday candle your wish would be to one day meet your soul mate. You dearly wanted to have that fairytale ending. All you ever dreamed about was to be the exception to the rule.

However, you never envisioned what the cruel universe had planned for you.

After graduating high school, you decided to move to Gotham city. Your parents weren’t in favor of their only child moving across the country to the crime capital of the world. However, you had been offered a full scholarship from the Gotham University in the program of your choosing. Your parents understood that this wasn’t an offer you could refuse. It was the opportunity of a lifetime.

You moved over to the big city during summer break. You had found yourself a small apartment a few blocks away from campus and walking distance from the grocery store. It wasn’t anything fancy but it was all you needed.

That summer you began to experience something rather strange.

It all begun at the farmer’s market, one Sunday afternoon. You were out buying some fresh vegetables when you accidently bumped into a stranger in the crowd. Suddenly, you could’ve sworn that the tomato in your hand shifted from a dark gray color to a dull red for a split second. But in the blink of an eye, the tint had faded.

You weren’t sure what had just happened, you didn’t even realize that the somber blackish red pigment was a color. Since this was your very first time ever encountering it. You probably would’ve even known what to call the color had you been aware of its brief appearance.

The next time you came upon this strange sensation was a few weeks later at the library. You were reading your favorite book in the back corner of the old establishment, to avoid getting disturbed. Coincidently, that very same day Jason found himself at the library reading the same book in the adjacent aisle. Neither one of you noticed the presence of the other, since the large book shelved divided you. But it was close enough for your senses to grow faintly stronger.

You didn’t notice the effects that Jason’s mere presence had on you until a few hours later. You were at a coffee shop when you abruptly saw something odd in the corner of your eye. You swiftly turned around and immediately noticed that the restaurant’s logo had unfamiliar tone. The logo that you were staring at was the same color as the tomato that you had held in your hands a few weeks prior. A red so dark it could’ve easily been mistaken for black. The only difference was that this time it lasted a few minutes which gave you time to inspect it closely.

There was no mistaken, you knew exactly what you had seen this time. Naturally, you began to ask yourself a million questions. “Is it really happening? Who is he? Where is he? When will our paths cross again? Will they ever cross again? Where will they cross? Is he also freaking out?” Your brain was racing at the speed of light. All this excitement and intrigue made it impossible for you to fall asleep. Your mind kept playing out various scenarios of your enchanting encounter with this mystery man. You couldn’t help but wonder how it would all unravel. The only thing that you knew with absolute certainty was that your knight in shining armor was in Gotham.

The following day, you went out with a few colleagues for some drinks after a long hard week.

Since it was Friday, yourself and your coworkers stayed at the bar until last call, having a few too many drinks. The bar was located a few blocks away from your apartment ergo, you decided to walk home to avoid having to pay for a cab.

On your way home, you opted for the shortcut. To avoid lurking around the small dark alley, you picked up your pace. But it was no use. Waiting for you in the shadows was a group of lowlifes ready to ambush their prey.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” said the first shadow, eyeing you like a predator about to pounce. “Scream and I’ll cut your throat, bitch.” He threatened.

You felt shivers running down your spine leaving you paralyzed. “P-p-p-please.” You whimpered in absolute terror.

“Relax baby doll, we won’t hurt you. I promise, it’s just a game. Don’t you want to play?” Added the second creep.

By the time you realized that you had made a terrible mistake, the thugs had you surrounded. It was too late to escape and you knew it.

“I would love to play.” Echoed a voice from a nearby rooftop. “But I’m warning you, you’re going to lose.”

In a matter of seconds, the men were disarmed and knocked out by the fabled Red Hood. “Are you alright?” The red hood questioned slowly approaching you. “I can escort you back home if you’d like.”

“I-I’m just shaken up.” You replied. “I’m [Y/N], thank you for saving me.”

“It’s what I do best.” Said the masked vigilante arrogantly. “Now how about we get you home safely?” he then proceeded to wrap his arm around your shoulder for comfort.

As soon as your bodies made contact, the pair of you were hit with a jolt of pure raw energy. It was exhilarating, like fireworks! You felt your soul being kissed by a hint of magic. Colors bursting left and right. Like a euphoric symphony. It was undeniably love at first sight. It felt like finally coming up for a breath of fresh air after being dragged underwater. Neither one of you could say a word. Yet, somehow you both knew exactly what the other was feeling. While the rest of the world was black and white, you were in screaming color.

The walk home was enchanting. The raging colors were overwhelming. Not to mention that against all odds you had met your soulmate. You were in a trance. It all felt like a dream, the most exquisite dream you would ever have. You never wanted to wake up. For a moment, everything was perfect.

When you finally reached your doorstep, the silence broke. “Would you like to come in?” You offered hopefully.

“Of course. I would be delighted. Please, lead the way”

You fumbled for your keys still a little bit drunk, “Got them!” unlocked the door and waltz in, “Welcome to my humble abode!” you exclaimed.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to stay very long, duty calls. But I promise that I will make it up to you darling. How about tomorrow at 8 O’clock? I’ll pick you up?” Before you could answer, your masked vigilante had disappeared into the shadows.

If it weren’t for the alcohol in your system you wouldn’t’ve been able to fall asleep. The events that had just occurred were allot to process. You were awakened by the sound of the doorbell. You rushed down in hopes of being reunited with the mystery man but instead found a large bouquet of red roses, a beautifully golden wrapped box topped with a red bow and a note on your doorstep.

You frantically ran out in your pajamas in hopes of seeing whoever sent you these gifts but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary outside aside from a wave of lyrical colors. After giving up the hopeless chase, you walked back into your apartment with the gifts.

You set the box on the counter and put roses on the dining room table to be properly displayed. Afterward, you sat down and carefully opened the delicate envelope. Inside, read a note that said:

Remember, 8 pm sharp. –XOXO

A smile grew wide upon your face as you gently set the note down and delicately unwrapped the beautiful golden box with the red bow. Inside, laid a gorgeous red silk dress along with a second note that said:

Thought I’d help you pick out something nice to wear on our first date. –XOXO

“Who is this guy?” You thought to yourself.

The rest of your day was spent attempting to find the perfect shoes and getting your: nails, hair, and makeup done. You were about to go on the most important date of your life. Naturally, you desperately wanted everything to be perfect. The butterflies accumulated in your stomach caused by a fusion of anxiousness and nervousness made you feel sick.

But all those feeling vanished, the moment the doorbell rang and you opened the door revealing a handsome blue-eyed gentleman. “Good evening Miss. [Y/L/N], you look stunning.”

“Good evening …”

“Todd, Jason Todd. But all my friends call me Jay.”

“Good evening Jay,” you say while blushing, “It’s so nice to finally meet the man behind the mask.”

“Are you ready?”

“Yes.”

Jason then kindly escorts you to the limousine awaiting you at the end of your driveway. About 15 minutes later you arrived at your destination. An elegant restaurant located just outside the city lines.

Having recently moved to Gotham and not being familiar with Bruce Wayne’s long list of adopted kids you can’t help but ask Jason the most ridiculous question. “Did the Red Hood rob a bank in order to afford all these luxurious surprises?”

Jason chuckled and replied, “No, I’m Bruce Wayne’s adopted son. My father owns this restaurant along with numerous other small companies all operating under Wayne Enterprises.”

As the night progressed you feel more and more in love with this perfect stranger as you grew to know him better. He told you everything about himself. He told you about his family growing up followed by his adventures while living in the streets of Gotham. Then he told the stories about later being adopted by Bruce Wayne, taking over the robin mantle only to be brutally murdered by the Joker and resurrected by a madman. Jason even opened up about his rough time settling after being revived and his new-found alias. Despite having numerous questions, you simply listened to every word. You wanted to capture this moment. You wanted to remember all these wonderful yet tragic stories for years to come. You wanted to assure Jason that you would be there for him from now on. You wanted Jason to know that nothing bad would ever happen again because you’d be there this time by his side. You wanted to ensure him that he would never be alone again.

After dinner, he proposed yet another activity. “I know the perfect place but we have to hurry if we don’t want to miss it.”

Roughly five minutes later, you hoped out of the limousine and thanked Alfred once more. When you turned around your jaw dropped leaving you speechless. Jason had brought you to the most beautiful spot in the world. Just outside of the city was this lovely isolated piece of land. it was perfect. You could smell the fresh air, feel the gentle blades of grass brushing up against your legs, hear the birds singing a poetic melody and see mother nature’s majestic reflection in the still water.

That evening you witnessed your very first sunset. It was captivating. The way the colors danced together in the sky was mesmerizing. You were undeniably in love. Watching the sunset with Jason spontaneously became your favorite thing in the world. It felt like all your problems were lifted. Time stood still and all was quiet. No matter how terribly life in the big city treated Jason and yourself, when you would escape to this paradise you felt nothing but peace.

Jason and yourself would take a trip here every single day to watch the seemingly infinite horizon take away pain and replace it with pure ecstasy. Together, you would admire the flares of reds, oranges, pinks and yellows harmoniously waltz in the heavens.

Alas, Tragedy struck.

Without a warning, fate intervened and robbed you of you most prized procession. It mercilessly stole your one and only source of happiness. Fate was like a ruthless wind. A cruel cold blooded murderer. A violent storm, a force of nature not to be reckoned with. It barged in uninvited and left behind nothing but soul crushing agony.

One stormy night, while you were at home sleeping you heard your bedroom window crack open. However, this didn’t startle you, Jason routinely entered your apartment through the window after patrol. Thus, you didn’t open your eyes and stayed in bed to avoid being up for the remainder of the night. But this time was different. Jason’s body fumbled through the small crack and collapsed on your bedroom’s floor.

A loud thump woke you up from your semi-conscious state. “JASON!” you cried out.  “What in God’s name happened?” you inquired running over to his lifeless body. As soon as you reached him you immediately check his vital signs. Jason’s pulse was weak and his breath was shallow. “D-Don’t worry, everything will be okay. I-I’ll make everything better. J-just stay with me, Jay. Keep your eyes on me.” You frantically said.

“[Y/N], I love you.” Comforted Jason while gently whipping the tears streaming down your face simultaneously leaving an auburn streak on your cheek.

“No, no, no. Stay with me, baby. Don’t you dare leave me like this. I’m not ready to lose you, Jay. I love you.” You cried out while struggling to acquire help. Instinctively you began applying pressure to Jason’s gunshot wounds. But it was no use. A pool of blood had already formed itself. And Jason’s limp arm abruptly hit the ground splashing your face with blood.

Just like that, you knew. You knew he was gone. The love of your life had abandoned you. The thick crimson liquid stained the cold hardwood floor. The vermilion warm fluid ran down your arms. Jason’s blood left a scarlet trace all over both of your clothes. Red. Red was the very last color you would ever see. It burned itself into your mind. From that moment to the end of eternity you would be scared by the devil’s color.

It was ironic how red had once been your favorite color. Not only was it the first color you had ever scene. But it was Jason’s color. That entrancing ruby red used to remind you of the tomato from the farmer’s market, the logo from the coffee shop, the dress you wore on your first date and the roses that Jason had surprised you with. Cherry red, the color that once symbolized love had now become the color of demise.

A few hours later, when the sun rose you came to the terrible realization that you would never be able to go back to your special spot with Jason. The place where you could see the fire burning in the atmosphere. This broke your already shattered heart. Knowing that the sun would keep on rising and setting day in and day out but you would not be capable of admiring it was devastating.

Becoming color blind made you realize just how real everything was. That this wasn’t just some sort of nightmare. That Jason was gone forever. That you would never see your soulmate ever again. That Jason’s comforting voice was nothing more than a memory that would fade away with time. That his comforting touch wouldn’t be felt when you craved his warm embrace. That the smell of old books, leather, gunpowder, cigarettes and aged scotch would slowly vanish from the apartment you shared.

After Jason’s death, the world not only became black, white and a million shades of gray but it became somber. Your world became darker than ever. It was as if someone had turned the lights off.
