Jake Gyllenhaal And Carey Mulligan To Star In Paul Dano’s Directorial Debut ‘Wildlife’

Actor Paul Dano is currently filming Bong Joon-Ho’s latest film “Okja,” but he has another project already in the works: His directorial debut “Wildlife,” based on the 1990 Richard Ford novel of the same name. Now according to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to star in the film alongside Carey Mulligan.

“Wildlife” follows a teenage boy who witnesses the decay of his parents’ marriage after their move to Montana when his mother befriends another man. It will be co-written by Dano and fellow actress Zoe Kazan, and will be produced by Andrew Duncan and Alex Saks for June Pictures, and Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker for Nine Stories.

“In Richard’s book I saw myself and many others,” said Dano. “I have always wanted to make films and have always known I would make films about family. I couldn’t be happier to have such beautiful collaborators like Carey and Jake leading the way.”

This will not be the first time Dano and Gyllenhaal have worked together. They both starred in Denis Villeneuve’s “Prisoners,” about the abduction of two young girls in Pennsylvania, and Bong’s “Okja” will feature the two of them as well.

Dano first rose to prominence in key supporting roles in “Little Miss Sunshine” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.” He went on to co-star in Spike Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things Are,” Kelly Reichardt’s “Meek’s Cutoff,” and Rian Johnson’s “Looper.” He most recently starred as Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson in the biopic “Love & Mercy.”
