This amazing photo by Paul Nicklen shows a wild male orca herding herring.
Wild orcas all around the world have developed hunting techniques that are specific to prey type and their environment. Captive orcas have even been recorded using fish to hunt the birds that hang out around their tanks, though that’s considered to be out of boredom and the innate desire to hunt rather than hunger.

The orca’s incredible problem-solving skills and complex thinking abilities are the reason they are the ocean’s top predator, as well as one of the main reasons they are unsuitable for captivity.
