Now there are three kinds of music on this “Fantasia” program. First, there’s the kind that tells a definite story. Then there’s the kind that, while it has no specific plot, does paint a series of more or less definite pictures. And then there’s a third kind, music that exists simply for its own sake.

Fantasia, 1940

Take it from someone whose friends are 80% members of the clergy: pastors are human. They get nervous before preaching, they laugh with friends in pubs, they fumble through online dating and parent-teacher conferences, they binge-watch Netflix, they cry, they have sex, they nap in their offices between services. They aren’t saints; they just love people and want to tell God’s story and to work to make the world a kinder, more just place. Please don’t be intimidated of them. They’re big nerds who would love to answer your questions and learn about you.
