Please take a few minutes of your time to read this. I’m not asking for anything. I just think that this is something that isn’t said enough.
My mom is extremely homophobic and recently, she found out that I’m gay. I didn’t tell her. My brother was talking to my mom and let it slip. And if I was not ready to tell her, I was definitely not ready for the backlash of her knowing. I was taking a nap when my mom found out. The moment my brother let it slip, he tried to take it back but it was too late. They started arguing and it woke me up. I couldn’t really hear what they were saying and looking back at it now, I’m glad I couldn’t. I later found out that my brother was trying to explain to my mom that nothing was wrong with me for liking girls. That my happiness was all that mattered. But my mom wouldn’t listen to a word he said. So my brother begged her not to say anything to me. Not until I told her myself. And she didn’t.
I could feel the tension during dinner but I didn’t bring it up until later that night. While I was getting ready to go to bed, my mom started asking me questions about boys. What kind of boys I like and stuff like that. Instead of answering the question, I changed the subject and asked about the argument. Her expression immediately changed from lighthearted to somber. In that instant, I knew I would regret asking. She looked me straight in the eye and asked me if I liked girls. The moment I registered what she was asking, I froze. I just stood there, staring at her. Tears began streaming down my face because I knew what was coming. And I wasn’t ready for it.
I never answered her question but my reaction was all she needed for confirmation. She became hysterical. She began saying things that I mostly blocked out because they hurt too much. I tried to tell her that it wasn’t a choice, that I didn’t choose to be gay and she told me that I needed to change my thought process because my father was going to be ashamed of me. My father died of brain cancer when I was four and I always feared what he would think of me if he was still alive today. Hearing my mom say that hurt like hell. I broke down and my brother tried to comfort me but I cried myself to sleep that night.
The next day, my mom acted like she didn’t just tear my heart out. She pretended like it didn’t happen and avoided making eye contact with me for a week. Now, we’re sort of back to normal but our relationship is strained. She’s in denial, always making passing remarks about homosexuals, and it will never go back to being the same after that.
Thank you for reading this. When I told my friends what happened, they told me that it was bound to happen eventually and that it was better my mom found out now. But they didn’t understand the feeling of having your mom tell you that she would rather die than have a gay child. Let me tell you, it was the worst feeling I have ever experienced in my 17 years of life.
If you know anyone who identifies on the lgbt+ spectrum, please don’t out them. Even if they stole your crayon when you were in Kindergarten and you haven’t liked them since, don’t out them. I had it better than most people. I know children who have been kicked out of their homes for being different. So don’t out anyone. Don’t bash anyone for being in the closet. You don’t know their situation. When they’re ready, they will work things out on their own.
-A young boy yielding a pool noodle thrice his height shouted the word “penis.” He may be only three, but he is well on his way to becoming as mature a man as any.
-A child passing by Starbucks remarked, “Hot chocolate? Like in Polar Express?” I hope that their innocence and enthusiasm are never dampened and that their exposure to liquid goodness goes beyond disturbingly-animated movies.
-I have become something of an attraction to possessed children today. Throughout my shift, upwards of two infants have twisted themselves around 270 degrees in their seat to maintain eye contact with me. I am unsure how best to utilize my legion of demonic toddlers, but I am certain they will come in handy.
-Four twelve year-old girls spent the better part of an hour sprinting throughout the store, and the better part of another hour sitting in a single cart at the front. This gaggle of gals had a large bag of water and a complete lack of supervision. This has potential to be a devastating combination as any of us have seen.
-A nine year-old busted out a surprisingly sick drum solo. With nothing more than a plastic stick, she gave my life a sense of drama which I can only hope to live up to.
-A man left his bag behind. I began to shout after him. A woman behind me chimed in, echoing my calls in a soft whisper. My attempts were not enough. Thankfully, the sound level it took to get his attention was precisely one whisper above a shout, so once again partner and I have triumphed.
-A clean-shaven neckbeard spent his evening compulsively and sporadically dabbing to entertain his friends. Sadly, his attempts at being impressive were entirely in vain, as he was behind them the entire time, and he was dabbing.
Let me tell you what it’s been like being asexual.
When you’re twelve or so, and in a classroom full of tittering preteens, you finally get an explanation of what this ‘sex’ stuff actually is. At last, the elusive knowledge of where babies come from! But that’s also when you start to think about your sexual future. Will you do this sex stuff one day? It sounded like you wouldn’t have a choice—it was presented as something that everyone does.
Since your classroom happens to be in a building attached to a Church, you only learn about heterosexual sex that day, and the only real teaching apart from what it is is that you aren’t supposed to do it until you’re married.
Okay, you think, because you are twelve, and you ardently do not care.
When you’re thirteen or so, and at a sleepover, a girl tells a joke. “What do you call a girl who doesn’t masturbate?”
“I don’t know.”
And the people around you laugh, but you don’t, because now you wonder what it is that you missed. You didn’t get the joke.
When you’re fourteen or so, and among friends, a boy talks about what he did in the restroom with a girl. You listen because you’re a little curious. But others are awed.
You disapprove, because you’re in eighth grade for crying out loud, why would you do something so stupidly risky? Was it really so fun to be worth it?
You tell yourself that they’re just stupid, but then you wonder why your friends seem so fascinated by this boy’s vaguely uncomfortable descriptions.
When you’re fifteen or so, you start high school, and the social signs are telling you the time has arrived to join the dating scene. You’ve got better things to do, but when a boy surprises you with a clumsy but well-intended text asking you out, you give it consideration. You don’t really know this kid, but you’re curious about dating and don’t want to be that forever alone person. You accept.
You don’t hate dating, but it doesn’t really do much for you. After a little while, you’ve more or less forgotten that there’s someone you call your boyfriend. When someone makes a passing remark about your presumed sexual relations, you are shocked by the wave of revulsion that smacks into you at the very suggestion. Never in a million years, you think vehemently, and then you marvel at how you managed to ‘date’ the same person for four months without the thought of sex with them ever crossing your mind.
He tries to kiss you. You don’t want to. You know this isn’t going to work out. You break it off.
You feel relieved and liberated.
When you’re sixteen or so, you’re happily single. You love your friends dearly, your best friend most of all. You love her far more than you ever…well, you never really loved your ex. You wonder if you might be gay for her, but you don’t want to kiss her or anything, just squish her in a big hug on a daily basis to let her know you love her and put a smile on her face.
You have a fleeting crush on a boy. You get over it, thankful it never amounted to anything, because what were you thinking ew! Then you have another one, similar but different, and thank goodness that never happened either because it would have been so awkward. You start to wonder if you’re just not cut out for dating, or maybe you’re gay. You don’t know how to feel about that. It’d be so much simpler and easier if you were just normal.
When you’re seventeen or so, you make a new friend, a really pleasant guy. You are just friends, and that is perfect. It lasts about five months, and then one of your friends pulls him aside and hints heavily that he ought to ask you out.
He does. You have no compunctions about saying yes, because you like him a lot, and he’s taking you to see the new Hobbit movie even though he’s not a fan and he had to watch twelve hours of movies in preparation for this date so that he’d be able to understand your interest.
You have a great time, and so does he.
About a month later, he kisses you. It was your first kiss, exciting for the seventeen years of buildup and pleasant for having happened on acceptable terms with a more-than-acceptable person.
In the following months, neither of you brings up the topic of sex. After all, you’re both to be found in the pews on Sunday mornings. That’s fine by you. More than fine, actually. The idea of sex frightens you, which you attribute to your inexperience. You would only ever consider attempting it with someone you really trusted, on level with a spouse.
When you’re eighteen or so, and at a sleepover, a girl cuddles casually with you as you talk in the hushed tones reserved for the hours after midnight. She laments the lack of available girls at your school.
You mention that you would date a girl. You instantly have everyone’s attention.
“Is there something you want to tell us?” your cuddle-buddy asks.
You say again that you’d date a girl. Not now, of course, because you have a boyfriend, but yeah, you’d have no problem with it. You probably wouldn’t sleep with a girl, but then you really don’t like the idea of sleeping with a boy either. So you don’t really care about the configuration of genitals you don’t intend to see. You just want the company of some lovely dork who will marathon Lord of the Rings with you and frequent the city’s best ice cream parlors.
Because your cuddle-buddy is a member of the queer community, she’s much more informed about sexualities and designations and spectrums than you are. She suggests “panromantic asexual” and you understand both of those terms. You’d seen them before, but never really thought you qualified. Hearing her say it makes it somehow more concrete.
You accept that you are panromantic asexual. You feel so light now that a couple of your closest friends know and accept you as you are.
You tell your mom a little while later on a whim. You regret it because she doesn’t even bother listening to you and doesn’t respect your trust. You hear her the next day telling your sister about how you said you might be a lesbian, and you’re so frustrated with her you want to hit something.
You decide not to tell anyone else. Your dad is pretty homophobic—actually, that’d be most of the adults in your family—and you have no idea how your boyfriend would take it. Your peers might not be welcoming or understanding—you just don’t know. You realize that you are sort of in a closet.
You start a blog on Tumblr and blog about your problems #ace #asexual #lgbtqa
You spend way too much time on the internet, looking for the magical solution for coming out to the rest of your loved ones. But since you don’t actually have any intention of coming out in the near future, you know you’re wasting your time.
Somehow your disinterest in sex has moved to occupy the forefront of your mind, not because it requires lots of attention in order to comprehend, but because it makes you different, and that is distracting.
One day, while you’re reading fanfiction, you come across an explicitly asexual character, and you realize that this is a first. You cannot think of a single time in your entire life up to this point when you had seen an explicitly asexual character, and that surprises you. Then it bothers you. Maybe you could have avoided a couple years of uncertainty and anxiety if you had been able to identify in yourself the familiar characteristics of another asexual.
You realize you don’t know anyone else in your life who’s asexual.
That’s a sobering, isolating realization.
When you’re nineteen or so, you presumably go to college. You start trying to navigate life with some semblance of independence. You probably feel a little more secure in how you identify yourself. You might even be all the way out of the closet.
Or at least that’s what eighteen-year-old you hopes.
A/N: This story is told as the reader is female. For my NonBinary/Male pals out there, if you would like for me to rewrite the story with genderless pronouns, just let me know and I’ll get it up as soon as possible
Jack had a new girlfriend. The internet was buzzing, his community talking about it on every form of social media. Who had managed to catch the eye of the sweet, loud, Irish boy? More importantly, how had they not noticed? The clues should have been as clear as day, not to mention all the times he mentioned you.
The first time he mentioned you, it was a passing remark. No one really took notice of it, too occupied laughing and focused on what the Irish man was doing. Smiling, he held up a handful of containers, and a small note with scribbles on it.
“So, I got my make up here that was so generously loaned to me. (Y/N) put a little list here for me so I knew what order to put them on.”
The second time was a few months later, when he was doing a new and improved house tour. Not much changed, though it was always entertaining to watch the shaky camera and the happy voice accompanying it.
“This plant is very pretty. Its not mine though, I’m just watching over it while (Y/N) visits her family.”
Yet, the fans still didn’t seem to pick up on anything. Sure, there were a few comments here and there about what he had said, but they were buried deep in the comments section, covered by links and click bait ads.
The third time sparked interest within his community, more and more people noticing your name popping up here and there, casually as if he had already told them who you were. Had he? Or was this a new development?
“What’s my favourite memory of 2015? Oh, that’d have to be the time a bunch of my friends and I went on a group camping trip. It was amazing. I never really get to hang out with people as much, not that I’m complaining or anything. It was just nice to get away for the weekend. (Y/N) and I had canoed down the river, and almost got lost if it wasn’t for her being smart enough to bring a compass.”
By now, theories began to pop up. Did Jack get a girlfriend? An old family friend? A neighbour? No one could figure it out, and Jack had given them no clues. People began writing stories, drawing art, trying to guess who you were and what you looked like. It wasn’t until the four incident, when they finally got some clue into who you were.
“Top of the morning to you laddies. My name is Jacksepticeye!”
Thousands of people watched in confusion as Jack sat in front of the screen, his face being the only thing seen, awe and confusion on his face as he looked off screen, and not the game that was put in the title. That wasn’t the only thing that was off. The voice of the intro, however, wasn’t his. It was a woman’s voice, melodic and teasing as she practically screamed the line he was known for. Jack laughed, slouching over the table slightly before quickly standing up, only the corner of his jaw seen of his face, whispering something to someone off screen. There was a laugh, then Jack getting pushed back into view of the camera, before the video reset, playing the intro as it should have been, as if nothing had happened. An arm, a hand, and a glimpse of hair was all they got, but it was enough to explode the internet.
The fifth incident was different than the others. It was a vlog, nothing too unusual for Jack to do every now and then. However, this time, he stood in front of a hair salon, his green hair faded so much it was practically yellow.
“Top of the morning to you laddies! My name is Jacksepticeye, and welcome to another vlog! I know I’ve been doing quite a few of these lately, but this time, I’ve brought you to the hairdresser! Tons of people asked me to show me going to get my haired dyed, and the process of it. And in order to not bore myself. I’ve brought along a friend!”
There was a cheerful hello in the background, but Jack hadn’t turned the camera, the voice hidden, and the person unknown. Was this (Y/N)? The girl that had started showing up in Jacks videos more and more? The audience waited in anticipation, enjoying themselves already.
The video continues, Jack doing things here and there, cracking a few jokes and introducing the lady who was dying his hair. However, it was soon obvious whom he had brought with him, as the same name rang out half way through, and a woman walking behind Jack as he filmed himself looking in the mirror. The mystery girl had returned. Fans eagerly watched, hoping to catch another glimpse of her. However, the only thing they got was Jack retelling a joke you had said, or repeating a funny comment while you laughed in the background. It wasn’t until the end, when you were revealed again.
“Don’t I look soooooo pretty!”
Jack’s voice was high pitched, hands pulling your hair so it curled over his head, which was partially dyed to match his, as he smiled sweetly into the camera. You laughed from behind him, quickly stealing the camera, and your hair back, from his hands and flipping the camera to filming him. However, the camera had turned to your face, and for a split second, the world saw your face.
Twitter blew up minutes after the vlog was posted, the hashtag #WhoIsJack’sNewGirlfriend? spread like wildfire, single shots of your blurry face everywhere.
The sixth mention, wasn’t as much as a mention, but more a video. The video was titled “HAPPY WHEELS CHALLENGE…WITH A GUEST?!?!”, no mention of who it was, or if they had been on a video with him before. Fans spectated the video, starting with the intro, just as it always was. However, the camera was placed differently, so that Jack was completely visible till his waist. His arms were behind him, and two smaller hands replaced them, high-fiving the air beside the camera. Jack laughed as the hand totally failed, but continued to do his intro.
"Top of the morning to you laddies! My name is Jacksepticeye, and welcome back to…HAPPY WHEELS! I have a very special guest with me today, (Y/N)! And this is a very stupid video we decided to do, because why not?! I’m going to have my arms behind my back, and (Y/N) is going to control the game for me, but she can’t see a thing! Hopefully this wont be a total disaster!“
The video was full of laughs, screams, and Jacks new hands smacking his shoulder several times, which just made them laugh harder. It was hard not to laugh along, especially when Jack kept screaming while (Y/N) tried to do a spike fall. The fans hoped that they could at least see a small view of your face, however, Jacks back and shoulders covered everything that could have been seen.
The seventh and final instance, was when the truth came out.
Jack was filming another reading your comments video, a half a year after you were first mentioned. He started the first few as he normally did, a few silly one, a few serious ones with silly answers, and one serious one. And then, the moment of truth.
“Jack, can you please tell us who (Y/N) is? You’ve mentioned her a lot recently, and I know I’m not the one wondering. I’ve seen a lot of these comments recently, and yes, I have seen them and haven’t answered them. (Y/N) is a very special person to me, and I respect her enough not to be forcing her to do things she doesn’t want to do. She enjoys her privacy, and can be shy sometimes, so I don’t want to be forcing her to sit with me on camera, or be constantly filming what we do. When (Y/N) and I hang out, I don’t have to pretend with her. Not that I’m saying I pretend when I talk to you guys, but when I film, I constantly have to make things interesting, keep the energy going. (Y/N) is my rock, and I couldn’t imagine her not being in my life. When she’s ready, maybe she’ll introduce herself to you, but for now, please don’t pressure her into anything she doesn’t want to do. If you haven’t figured it out, (Y/N) is my girlfriend. We’ve been dating for almost eight months now, and honestly I’m so happy. I love her to death, and I hope you guys will love her just as much as I do. Okay, maybe not that much.”
He ended the question with a giggle, and that was that.
Of course you were mentioned more and more over the course of the year, Jacks face lighting up at your name and the stories he told. He apologized most of the time when a story got away from him about the two of you, but instead if receiving hate or comments that told him they didn’t want to hear stories about you, all the comments were positive. They loved hearing stories about you, about the life Jack had outside of YouTube. As soon as he started mentioning you, others did as well. Mark, Felix, and even Ken mentioned you at least once in their videos, excited for Jack and happy that he found someone to love as much as they had. Mark of course had to be the odd man out and have a whole story on one of his videos, but the fans loved it, laughing about how you got lost at the mall with them and had to huddle next to him until you two managed to find Jack again.
It wasn’t until a year and a half later, when you were finally introduced to the world. It wasn’t a video like most hoped, a picture was what revealed you. Your face wasn’t in it completely, you were turned away, just the side of your face being seen, but Jack was full center. The pictured seemed almost better than a video when everyone saw the smiles on yours and Jacks face as he held your hand up, a ring on your ring finger sparkling in the light, did they realize that they didn’t need to see you to know that you made Jack incredibly happy. And that was enough for them.
Summary: Bucky’s away on a mission, and you’re left with an apartment full of boxes to unpack.

A/N: This is dedicated to @writingruna, and she is 110% the inspiration for this (because she may or may not own a unicorn onesie and also because I can just see this happening to her). It was also written when I should have been sleeping but alas, here we are.
“Okay, but what are you going to do? You can’t just hang out in your apartment, all by yourself, all weekend.”
Wanda tugged at your arm, which had been retreating into your jacket, her bottom lip stuck out into a pout. You smiled and gently pulled away, snickering lightly when both Wanda and Natasha made noises of complaint.
“I think you’re both imagining me watching sad romance movies and listening to love ballads in my pajamas,” you said, cocking an eyebrow. “But I do actually have some unpacking to do, you know.”
Jake English likes to fight, and likes the Brobot.
TW: Physicality, Discussion of Physical combat
So, like. It’s long past time I wrote about my favorite character in this webcomic.
Jake English is the best and most interesting character in Homestuck, and it’s pretty tragic that barely anybody knows it. This is partly due to Jake’s narrative and personality being one of the most understated and subtle in the comic, but it’s also due to a Fandom Narrative building up around him that unfortunately paves over a lot of Jake’s most unique and interesting character traits.
Let’s try and rediscover this diamond in the rough as we wait for the game that will largely center around an alternate version of him, yeah? Here, I’m going to debunk some pretty common misconceptions about Jake, what he likes, and what he dislikes.
Brawls, Wrestling–Scrums and Whatnot. And the Brobot.
Let’s put it plainly: Jake English likes fights. A lot of the discourse surrounding Jake’s relationship with the Brobot seems to ignore this, or implies that the Brobot, like, Ruined Fighting for him somehow because it was outside of what he initially envisioned when Dirk sent it:
A point commonly further backed up with this quote Jake gives Jane:
There’s a few issues with this interpretation. Jake’s initial negative reaction is his very first encounter with the Brobot, and his quote with Jane is one he delivers as a passing remark. And by simply comparing Jake’s actions before and after the Brobot is sent, we can tell Jake really wouldn’t rather deal with the monsters.
Before the Brobot is sent, when Jake is 13, he explicitly avoids going outside:
Which is easy to link to being afraid of the monsters, since Jake complains about them himself…
And has no problem going outside three years later, after the Brobot is sent. To some extent, this can be put down to Jake’s increased experience and competence. But…
That clearly doesn’t account for the entire shift, since Jake does indeed need the Brobot to save him. I’ll come back to that later, but really, we don’t even need to do all this backwards story introspection to decide what Jake Really Feels. It would be easier to just listen to the guy himself.
So yes, Jake complains about the Brobot to Jane in one passing remark…while he’s still dancing around the tangled web of his relationships with Jane, Dirk, and Roxy. A period of time when Jake, by his own admission, is thinking very much about what other people think and not entirely being honest with the people around him.
What does Jake say when he is being honest, though? What does he tell John in his letter, which Jake wrote when he was 16, after 3 years of dealing with the Brobot?
What does he tell Caliborn–who’s opinion he doesn’t care about–after entering the session, after 6 months of dating Dirk?
And what does he tell Jane about the Brobot when he’s actually being honest with her–which he’ll CONTINUE to do for six months, complaining about all of Dirk’s myriad issues and shortcomings as a romantic partner…without ever once bringing up the specter of physical fear or discomfort?
Wait, hang on. Let’s zoom in on that one, that one’s important:
Woah. Is that Jake conceptually linking the Brobot…to the thing he was most consistently excited about for the entire comic? Interesting. Wild. What could it mean. It would almost imply that after spending three years with the thing, he doesn’t really hate the experience of having it in his life.
Again, Jake is no stranger to complaining about Dirk over the course of their session–he complains to Jane endlessly about him, as well as to Erisol and even Caliborn a little. (Though never Roxy, hmm…I wonder why…(I know why and I’ll get to it in another post.))
But he never really complains about fighting or about the Brobot in general, and his general attitude towards fights seems to be changed absolutely not at all whatsoever–right up to [S] Credits.
And he ultimate views Dirk as a figure of comfort and safety, so much so that he trusts Dirk with protecting him even more than he trusts Grandma or his own powers–after all, even after Brain Ghost Dirk tells him that he wouldn’t need him if he unlocked his hope potential, Jake still chooses to simply make Brain Ghost Dirk real rather than doing anything on his own when he wants to feel safe:
So yeah, I find the idea that Jake was bothered by the Brobot on any meaningful level pretty hard to square with the avalanche of counterevidence that is in the canon. The Brobot was an imperfect gift, but Jake still ultimately enjoyed it.
Jake English likes to fight. Plain and simple. This is weird to a lot of people, and that’s fine, but it’s not actually that uncommon.
There’s plenty of sports that center around fighting or come with the risk of physical harm, like boxing, martial arts, etc. I’m a longtime fencer, and I genuinely liked going without protective padding and getting bruised from the sword impacts. Physicality appeals to some people.
Jake’s love for fighting established, feel free to join me tomorrow and we’ll take on a smaller issue. A tighter one.
I’ve written an obnoxious amount about Dirk, but seeing how quickly I was able to put that Dirk post out, I decided I’d like to use the next couple days to put out similar smaller posts about the other Alphas–Jake, Roxy, and Jane, In that order.
I’ve got at least two more posts of Jake in me before we move on to Roxy, and I should be putting out at least one of these posts a day–the next one’s already pretty much written, so I may post it early in the day tomorrow.
Hopefully, by doing this I can help people understand just how tangled and complicated the tangles of mutual hurt and mutual love are in this group of friends, and why I love this severely underrated group of Homestuck characters.
If you enjoyed this post and think others like it would be interesting to you, well–stay tuned. If you have a counterargument or you disagree with this post, feel free to respond and I’ll do my best to get back to you. I enjoy testing my ideas so long as we’re all nice about it.
little details in fantastic beasts that i gasped/screamed at/loved:
at his macusa hearing they say newt’s older brother was a war hero
which gives me a totally different perspective on newt’s childhood and life
he’s the carefree, daring, wild younger brother who can’t fit in, living under the shadow of his amazing brother like how must that have affected his development as a person
(btw newt was friends with leta because they were both outsiders which makes my heart hurt)
“worrying means you suffer twice” A PLUS NEWT A PLUS
also newt just like casually handing jacob heavy duty protection and tossing him into the fray
grindelwald snarling at newt in the interrogation room, wondering how albus dumbledore could possibly find this young unassuming man so amazing, so likable, so defendable
(also i’m like 150% sure newt scamander was rubeus hagrid’s personal hero)
the necklace graves gives credence is the deathly hallows symbol aka gellert grindelwald’s claimed sign
i saw that lil flash and s c r e a m e d
also i find percival graves and porpentina goldstein’s relationship so interesting

percival looks the sorriest when the president orders tina out of headquarters
and he comes downstairs straightaway to see her after that incident in the dusty macusa basement
and tina looks so betrayed when he shackles her alongside newt and jacob
what must their relationship have been like? mentor and mentee? close friends? colleagues? just something that’s been on my mind

tina seeing her mother in the pool
thinking about her relationship with her mother and how much she must have missed her parents, especially since they died at such an early age
newt begging tina to trust him, that he’ll catch her, and her visible hesitation
she must have had such a difficult life but is still so capable of love and affection and trust #porpentinagoldsteinisabamf
also that spell the goldstein sisters do to change their clothes like i need that
also newt’s small concession to fashion when he changes his fun bowtie into something a tad more formal
newt casually asking jacob how people trust him so quickly
that passing remark that people generally find newt annoying, like it’s so matter-of-fact, made me :’(
the tears in newt’s eyes when he’s saying farewell to jacob
jacob’s unabashed delight at seeing all these magical creatures and hearkening back to his wild days on the expedition teams in wwi
also can we take a moment to realize that jacob is a veteran and he’s probably seen so much grief and heartbreak and death and he is still so upbeat and helpful and purely genuinely excited at seeing new amazing things
and all he wants to do is open a bakery and make people happy like :’)
“but they made us cocoa!”
jacob and queenie bonding over their grandfathers’ birds and mutual love of cooking

I anxiously stood on the front porch, hearing the rain pounding down around me, my clothes were dripping from the short run from my car to the door. “Hello-Y/N?” Monty almost gasped, seeing me standing in wet clothes and a childish grin on my face. “Hey, babe.” I laughed.
“You’re soaked.” He chuckled, crossing his arms teasingly, I glared at him, “are you gonna get me a towel or something, let me in maybe?” I raised my eyebrows as he just looked at me. “Hang on.” He faked annoyance as he left the door open, allowing me to watch as he trudged down the hall, grabbing an old towel.
Once he came back to the door he tossed it on my head and laughed when I pouted. “I’m kidding.” He pulled it off of my hair and laid it around my shoulders. He pushed some of my wet hair off my face as I towel dried myself as well as I could, I kicked my shoes off and shrieked when he picked me up bridal style.
“Monty, what are you doing?” I grinned as he kicked the door shut, carrying me through his house, “well, I’m not gonna let you get water all over the floor.” He joked. I smiled as he set me down on the rug in his room, “can I have some clothes?” I asked sheepishly, he laughed, digging through his drawers and tossing me a shirt and sweatpants.
I happily took them and went into the bathroom to change, much to his dismay. “Babe.” He whined as I took my time changing, I laughed as he continuously knocked on the door. “I’m almost done, cry baby.” I teased through the door, tugging the pants up my legs, and tightening the waist band so they wouldn’t fall right off of me.
“Finally.” He groaned when I opened the door, smiling at me in his clothes. “So I guess the game is cancelled huh?” I remarked, looking passed him and out the window, watching the rain pour down. “You really think so?” His response was sarcastic, making me slap his chest. “Sarcasm is my thing.” I reminded him, Monty looked at me with raised eyebrows as I sat on his bed, watching him pointedly.
“You’re a little shit, you know that?” He walked over, belly flopping onto his bed, “I know, it’s a full time job.” I shrugged in response, he shook with laughter at my choice of words. “Babe.” I sang horribly off key as I laid back, raising his arm so it went across me. He turned his head so he was looking at me, “yes?” He mumbled, watching curiously as I stared at him. I broke out into a laugh as I saw mascara on his cheek from when he lifted me up.
“Ew, what are you doing?” He tried to move away as I licked my thumb and wiped his cheek, “oh, please. We’ve been dating for over a year, that’s not gross.” I rolled my eyes as I showed him the black mascara that’s now on my thumb. “Oh.” He laughed, pulling me closer, or moving himself closer to me, either way he had his head buried in my neck.
“Monty.” I complained, feeling him leave wet kisses along my neck, “you’ve never complained before.” He smirked against me. “That’s different.” I stated, laughing when his head popped up, furrowed eyebrows and lips in a straight line. “You’re never purposely leaving slobbery kisses.” I grimaced as I used the shirt I was wearing to wipe my skin, “Jesus, you make me sound like a dog.” He laughed.
I smirked, using his own statement against him. “Oh! Who’s a good boy, who’s a good boy!” I patted the top of his head making him glare at me, “Monty!” I shrieked when he dug his fingers into my sides. “Stop!” I laughed, pushing against him, he was persistent as he put more of his weight on my legs so I couldn’t move around. “Babe, stop please.” I was grinning as I tried to catch my breath, “don’t talk to me like a dog, and I’ll stop.” He offered, waiting patiently as I stopped breathing rapidly.
I leaned up nodding, I kissed him, making him hover above me more, giving me room to move. I leaned back, looking at him happily, before reaching up and doing what I had done before, “such a pretty boy.” I cooed like I was talking to a dog. As soon as his smile turned into a plain face I slid out from under him, knocking one of his hands, making him fall face first into his bed as I ran out of the room.
My laughter filled the empty house as I ran down the stairs as best as I could, “Y/N!” I heard him calling out my name as I pulled the closet door shut, covering my mouth in an attempt to quiet my breathing. “Babe, seriously, where the hell did you go?” He sounded closer now, I saw his shadow at the base of the door as he walked by, entering the guest room.
I could tell he dropped down to the floor, thinking I was under the bed like usual. Soon after his shadow went by again, but then it backtracked and stood in front of the door. I shrieked when he swung the door open and I fell out of the closet since I was forced to lean against the door. “Whoa, baby.” He laughed when I stumbled into his chest. “No, no more.” I sighed when he placed his hands on my sides, “I feel like I just did a hundred sit ups.” I complained, resting my forehead on his shoulder.
“Aw, my poor girl.” He teased, putting his arms around my back and squeezing me. “Shut up.” I laughed, slinging my arms around his neck.
So a while ago I saw a post about how Prompto might brag about getting lucky, any chance you have some hcs on how the other guys would brag in their own ways? 😉
tagging @fluffysmutkitten as she was the one who gave some insight on prompto ((figured she may possibly have some thoughts on this as well))
Gladio would probably be the most outspoken on the topic. Like whereas the other guys are more lowkey about how they get lucky, Gladio’s just like “yeah we fucked” or something like that. I mean if his s/o specifically asks him not to say anything that blatant he’ll refrain, but if you’re dating Gladio you gotta be at least somewhat okay with shit like that ((he’s fine with you doing the same)). Also, this man goes around pretty much topless every damn day so you bet he’ll be showing off every scratch, bruise, and hickey that he got he night before.
We all know that Ignis loves to make passing remarks that go over everyone’s head that they don’t get until like five minutes later, and that’s exactly how he brags about getting his fuck on too. He’s gonna be the one saying shit like “____’s already eaten this morning” with this smug ass smirk on his face or somethin like that; innuendos are his shit. It’ll be during things like meals or battles too which throws everyone for even more of a loop. He’ll also leave the top buttons of his shirt undone to show off the marks that litter his neck and upper chest.
My boy Noctis over here would probs be somewhere between gladio and ignis (aye *eyebrow wiggle*) but yeah no like this boy is def not gonna be as sly as Ignis but he’s not going to be as blunt as Gladio. Also, depending on his mood, he’ll be the most candid?? Like he’ll give deets if he’s relaxed and in enough of a good mood too – usually if alcohol is involved. He’s also gonna be hella smug too, and if one of the guys makes a jab at him about being lazy he’ll say something about how after last night that his s/o would beg to differ.
How old do you think undyne is in undertale? (Im trying to piece out a timeline theory)
Undyne is probably between 19 and 28 years old. Here’s the logic:
Chara fell into the underground in 201X. Frisk likely fell a hundred years after Chara died, if Sans’ passing remark is taken literally: “then she just howls with laughter. like it’s the best joke she’s heard in a hundred years.” Sans’ mention of 100 years would mean Undertale takes place in 211X.
Undyne’s username is StrongFish91. If the last two digits indicate Undyne’s birthyear (as is common with usernames), then Undyne was born in ‘91. Since Undyne has never seen a human, it must be 2091, not 1991 from before Chara fell.
61, 75, 77, 78 you can choose I would be interested to see what ever you come up with the one you choose.
A/N: Quick one before bed I have a class at 8.15am tomorrow ugh. T_T Sorry I took so long for this, I got a couple of drafts for this and I just decided to think of a new one altogether lmao.
Prompt: 78. “You weren’t supposed to hear that.”
His lips curl upwards as he watches you raise the sunflower to your nose, a soft smile lifting your lips as you inhale the sweet scent of the beautifully wrapped flower. There’s an added spring to your step as you walk on down the path, and a faint pink colour dusting your cheeks. He doesn’t quite understand how a gift as small as this can make you this happy. It’s not even a special occasion; you just passed by a florist shop while walking and you stopped, pulling him aside to admire the sunflowers through the clear glass window with him.
Saeran isn’t one for cliche acts like giving flowers. He doesn’t even know what came over him. Maybe it was the sparkle in your eye, a glint of a child’s that reminded him of the times his spirits would soar at the mere thought of getting ice cream with Saeyoung.
And then he realises the reason you’re so happy is probably because it’s the first time he’s given you anything close to a bouquet.
Perhaps Saeyoung was right when he said that girls love flowers, no matter the occasion.
Quite absently, his footsteps slow till his feet are planted to the ground, still. His eyes follow your back as you continue on, too absorbed with fondling with the pretty golden petals of the sunflower to notice that he’s no longer walking next to you.
It’s strange. His chest feels so warm, much like a slow, warm fire crackling in the fireplace. It’s always like this when he’s with you, or even when he’s simply observing you from a distance like this. He can’t really explain it. Words always fail him when it comes to you, somehow.
Today though, something is different.
The sight of you is breathtaking. Maybe it’s your new summer dress that you look exceptionally radiant in today. It’s like looking directly at the sun in all its glory without burning one’s eyes, like finding a lighthouse in the midst of the consuming and lonely darkness out at sea.
The words escape him without even thinking.
“You’re so beautiful.”
It was just a passing remark. It didn’t mean anything. You shouldn’t have even heard it from where you were.
But you did.
You actually did.
And he wanted to just bury himself in a hole when you turned around, your lips parted and your brow arched in an unvoiced question.
He’s panicking in his head, palms getting sweaty as you hurry back to where he’s standing like a fool, mouth opening and closing repeatedly as he struggles to find the words.
He’s always at a loss for words when it comes to you.
“Did you just… call me ‘beautiful’?”
Heavens, you need to stop staring at him with those wide, innocent eyes of yours.
“Y-You weren’t supposed to h-hear that,” he stammers, eyes darting away to avoid your curious gaze. You tend to gaze at him like you’re staring into his soul. It’s something he both hates and loves about you all at the same time.
You press your lips together and then they spread into a wide, knowing grin.
“So you admit it?
…Way to shoot yourself in the foot, idiot.
He’s about ready to slap himself when you lean in to peck him on the cheek. His eyes widen to the size of a goldfish’s and he nearly forgets to breathe amidst the insanely loud drumming of his heart, as if it’s trying to announce his pathetic nervousness around you… only you.
“Thanks, Saeran. You’re so sweet.”
He’s too focused on the lingering feel of your lips on his cheek to manage an adequate response.
It makes you laugh, much to his chagrin. Quite affectionately, you slip your hand into his to pull him along with you, and the action makes him smile despite himself. Your happiness is a contagious disease that makes it near impossible to think straight, and he turns into a complete and utter fool in the blink of an eye around you.
But he hears the tune you hum as you walk along, smiling like a fool too as you look at the sunflower in your hand.
And he concludes that you’re a fool too. A fool to have fallen for someone like him.
The only fool who could make him fall in love just as foolishly.
I love you!!!! Okay so can you imagine being Calum/Michael/Luke (pick the one you prefer)'a secretary and CEO!Ashton having a crush on you????
I can imagine that the secretary job is just something you took because you’re fresh out of college and haven’t found anything in your field yet, and Luke is a long-term family friend who agreed to hire you until something better for you comes along. So while you need the job you’re not exactly worried about getting fired so you kinda slack off and don’t take things too seriously and talk back to Luke when he tells you to do something just because you guys know each other so well and can laugh about it.
One day you’ll be at your desk hanging up from a phone call and going to type in a new meeting on Luke’s schedule when you see someone walk up in your peripheral vision and ask you to deliver some papers, and thinking it’s Luke, you’ll say something a bit too casual like, “Do it yourself you lazy oaf,” but when you don’t hear a smart ass response back you slowly look up and realize that you’ve just said that to the fricken CEO who you’ve never actually seen in person before, and he’s just staring at you with a confused expression because he can’t remember the last time anyone’s spoken to him like that. You want to apologize but you’re so struck with fear and embarrassment that you can’t get the words out, and then Luke will peek his head out of his office door and greet his boss without knowing what just happened. Ashton will pick up the papers he was going to leave with you and hand them to Luke along with instructions about what to do with them, and when Luke thanks him and disappears into his office again, Ashton will turn back to you and ask, “Happy?” since he did it himself like you told him to.
Summary: Reader has a panic attack but Jug comes and saves the day but not forgetting to make sure he sees his damsel in distress later on for dinner.
Warnings: It could be triggering but it’s really not anything too intense.
I didn’t really tell people about my anxiety because no one actually payed enough attention to notice or to care so I would just live life as normal and hope I could avoid situations that I knew made me anxious and panicky. This was hard because even though I had anxiety I still tried to be as out going and confident which made it hard to try balance the two.
But today was different, so many things were going horribly and I was actually surprised that I had held it together this long. I walked in the student lounge and set my bag on a table to try find something to eat because I felt like I was going to be sick. I wasn’t alone for long because soon after the school jock, Reggie, walked in with his little minions and a few other people like Archie Andrews and Betty Cooper walked in and sat on the couches.
Not finding anything in my bag I took money from my pocket and went to the vending machine in hopes they would have a energy bar. I just got to the vending machine when Reggie stepped in front of me, I tried to ignore it and move to the side but he kept following me and all his friends were laughing or passing around snarky remarks.
“What’s wrong (Y/N/N) am I in your way?” He slurred meanly as he stood over, getting too close in general.
“Please Reggie.” I whispered and tried stepping to one side to get past but he mimicked my move.
“Sorry princess, I didn’t hear you.” He smirked, I turned around and started walking away when he pulled me by me jacket sleeve. I got pulled back and was now leaned against the cold vending machine while Reggie snatched my money away from me, “What would you like?” He purred, I know this was just playful boy flirting but it was too much. My anxiety was over the roof and I couldn’t stop it now, I was pushed too far and there was no turning back.
I just stared at him in shock and helplessness, "Helllooo earth to (Y/N).” He mocked, all his friends started laughing and I couldn’t help it any longer, the tears just fell and there was no point in stopping them now. A confused expression came over Reggie’s face before he started laughing hysterically. I was now shaking, with tears running down my face, sobs and breaths choking in my throat and had a group of teenage boys laughing at me.
“Hey assholes! What the fuck are you doing.” I heard someone say from the end of the room, the laughter grew from the boys.
“We did nothing, she just started freaking out.” Reggie said between his laughs.
“Get out, all of you.” The voice said, I could see him in the corner of my eye, dark hair and a smallish frame. “Before I call Weatherbee.”
“Okay, calm done Mr. detective.” Reggie laughed, “Come boys, lets go.” He called and walked out the room with his friends.
I felt two hands wrap around my shoulder, they felt softer than the voice’s, I didn’t open my eyes as they lead me to one of the couches and sat me down. I opened my eyes, they burned and I was still shaking, battling to breath, my stomach doing flips, and my hair matted to my wet cheeks.
“(Y/N) it’s Betty, and Archie and Veronica and, you know what it’s the whole gang here actually,” she chuckled slightly, “Just relax, breath in… and out.” She carried on for a while until I calmed down a little. I sat there for a good thirty seconds after she got me to stop crying, the all watched me, which wasn’t making things better. I looked around the room, Veronica and Archie giving me emphatic smiles but when my eyes fell on Jughead he looked panicked himself. I looked over at Betty, she saw my shy expression and chased Veronica and Archie off to get us all food. Betty told me to stay where I was while she got me a new shirt from her gym locker because I had used mine to wipe away my tears.
As she walked out the room Jug turned to me, “Are you okay (Y/N/N)?” He got up and sat next to me carefully and handed me his jacket.
“Yes, thank you Jug.” I said and gave him a teary smile as I draped the jacket over my shoulders.
“You’re still shaking.” He pointed out, I sighed when he continued “What’s wrong, because I feel like that there.” He pointed in the direction of the vending machine, “Was the tipping point of something much worse.“ He talked with a soft tone as his gaze raked over me.
"It’s been a long day.” I said, he was clearly unsatisfied with my answer because he sighed and looked at me like I needed to explain further but when I remained silent he didn’t give up.
“Have you eaten?” He interrogated me further. I shamefully shook my head, his eyes widened slightly and he began to rummage through his backpack only to pull out a bag of chips and handed them to me. I held them as we spoke not wanting to eat his food. “You’ll be fine now right, just a sugar low? Do you need water?”
“It’s just my anxiety, Juggie.” I said quickly with a soft voice. “Relax, I’m fine now.”
He looked up, his brows furrowed together in confusion, “I never knew…”
“Because I’ve never told anyone.” I cut him off while shaking my head.
“But Betty knew, when I got up to make them stop, she knew what to do.” He stared at the ground with his elbows on his knees.
"Betty has dealt with it before…” I replied back monotonously.
“Oh.” He frowned and fiddled with his dark hair for a moment, “But you’ll be okay right?” He said taking my hand for reassurance.
“Yeah,” I said taking his hand and smiling at him, “Thanks for helping Jug.” I squeezed his hand and settled back into the couch.
“Anytime.” He said with a grin. We sat in silence for a few seconds, my heart went from racing because of fear to excitement. “Do you want to come to Pop’s tonight with me? We could talk more about this?” He motioned to in between us with a giddy smile on his face.
“And what would this be?” I smirked playfully.
“So you don’t want a this?” He acted sad but then squeezed my hand making sure I knew he was joking. “So, Pop’s tonight?” His eagerness evident in his tone.
I could feel the blood rush to my face, he arched an eyebrow waiting for an answer. Just when I was going to say yes Archie and Veronica walked in and I mentally groaned, why couldn’t they’ve waited two more seconds?
“Turkey sandwich madam?” Veronica placed the neatly packaged sandwich on my lap and Archie handed me a bottle of water.
“Thanks guys.” I said immediately unwrapping the food and taking a huge bite, I could feel my stomach settle almost instantly. Jughead had pulled his hand away from mine when they entered the room but that didn’t stop him from giving me sweet glances, every time he looked over at me I couldn’t help but get butterflies.
I looked over at Jughead because he was staring at me, he mouth Pop’s and shrugged his shoulders I then gave him a quick nod and we turned back to the conversation. I watched the grin grow on his face as he pretended to listen to Veronica. The bell went and Archie shot up saying something about forgetting his math homework and left the three of us alone.
Jughead stood up stretching and then held a hand out for me, “I’ve sorta got AP English now.” He said as I took his hand and pulled myself up next to him, “but I’ll see you later.” He smirked and fixed his hair before heading off to class. I grinned and felt the blush burn on my cheeks.
“Was that what I think it was?” Veronica squealed, I bit back a smile and nodded causing her to erupt in a fit of giggles and squeals, “Come on we have to find Betty!” she exclaimed and took my hand dragging me down the corridor.
Jamie knew it was only a matter of time before Grey found him. He thought it would be after dark and knew it would need to be private so he tried ushering Willie to bed early. But the lad was too perceptive for his own good and, not wanting to miss whatever the adults were going to talk about, had employed every trick in his arsenal to put off going to bed.
“I want to hear the story again,” Willie insisted.
“I’ve just told it to ye twice.”
“Then tell me another,” Willie pressed. “The time ye saved her when they thought she was a witch… Or how ye met the king in France.”
Jamie frowned. “Ye ken I told ye we need to be careful what we talk of when there’s men of His Majesty’s army about––even if it’s only Major Grey.”
Willie nodded but wasn’t distracted from his point. “The witch one then. From when ye first saw Murtagh coming to fetch ye.”
Jamie sighed and began to set the scene as he always did––the hunting trip with an unsettled Dougal, an unusual Duke, and himself, longing to be warm in his bed at the castle with his wife to hold through the night.
“It sounds lovely,” Grey’s voice cut in from the doorway of the barn. “I can wait until you’ve finished…”
“No,” Jamie said firmly, rising and swinging Willie up into his arms, carrying him to the ladder leading up to the loft. “To bed wi’ ye, wean,” he ordered. “And dinna even think of anything but crawlin’ ‘tween the sheets, sayin’ yer prayers, and waiting for sleep to take ye,” Jamie added sternly under his breath.
Jamie watched as Willie’s shoulders heaved a sigh and turned to climb the ladder.
“He can be a stubborn one,” Jamie remarked by way of an apology.
“Like his mother,” Grey agreed.
Jamie frowned at his own memories of Geneva’s stubbornness but the mention of his mother caught Willie’s attention. The lad turned so fast he nearly tumbled from the ladder in his over-tired state.
“You remember my mam?”
Jamie carefully held his face in check as he looked to Grey. Remember, Willie had said, not knew. Had the other man caught the word or was he too focused on his own slip to notice?
“Your mother…” Grey fumbled, meeting Jamie’s eye sheepishly. “Yeeesss,” Grey continued slowly. “I do remember meeting her. She made quite the impression.”
“Can I feel your arm?” Willie asked eagerly.
“My… arm?” Confusion washed over Grey’s face.
Jamie tried to step in. “To bed, William.”
“I wanna see if I can feel where ye broke it. I can on each of the fingers Da’s broken and his nose, though that one’s no hard.”
“How do you know about my arm?” Grey looked at Jamie accusingly.
“Mam set it for ye in the war,” Willie reminded the officer before doubt and a little fear crept into his face. He looked to his father, expecting a chastising but hoping for confirmation.
“Aye, he’s the one broke his arm. But I’ve told ye to go to bed several times now…”
Willie gulped. “G’night to ye, sir. G’night, Da,” he rattled off before hastily making his way up the ladder to the loft.
“Can we talk outside?” Jamie requested. “Inquisitive ears…”
The yard was empty and the sky dark, the sun having sunk some time before leaching color from the world as it went. They leaned against the outside wall of the barn gazing across the yard toward the house.
“You told him about our meeting during the war,” Grey stated. Jamie could hear the surprise in Grey’s voice but wasn’t sure he wanted to try naming what was paired with it.
“Casts ye in a better light in Willie’s eyes than telling him ye were my jailor,” Jamie explained with a shrug. Willie knew he’d fought in the Rising, that he’d been to prison. But he didn’t completely comprehend why they lived at Helwater––it was all he’d ever known, after all. There were things about his past that Willie was still too young to hear. He told himself that was why he indulged Willie’s desire for stories about Claire, why he’d given up the idea of forcing that truth on the lad until he was older and better able to understand. “He likes stories and there arena so many he’s old enough to hear.”
“Am I correct in understanding he believes your late wife is his mother? What the bloody hell have you been telling him?” Grey demanded, his voice low but insistent.
“I told him what I could of the truth and he’s made something of it that comforts him,” Jamie snapped. “He’s convinced my wife was taken by the fairies and that he’s the bairn she carried when I lost her. I’m not about to take that idea from him when the truth…” He broke off sharply, his indignation and desire to justify himself nearly carrying him too far.
It didn’t matter.
“What did she do to convince you to take such a risk?” Grey asked. “What did she offer you to get you into her bed? Or was she inducement enough?”
Jamie clenched his jaw as though refusing to answer might successfully deter Grey.
“The boy looks more like you every time I see him and I know Geneva was worse than a dog with a bone when there was something she wanted. She would do anything––”
“Well in my case it was threats and blackmail and it’s all the more reason I’d have Willie think his mother was a kind and gentle woman I loved more than my own life,” Jamie said quickly to stop Grey talking. He felt his cheeks warm as the confession he’d made sunk in. The growing darkness was a relief in that moment. I dinna ken why exactly ye’ve come just now but there is something I would speak to ye about.”
“I’ve spoken with Lady Dunsany and I don’t expect she’ll let this idea of hers go anytime soon.”
Jamie ground at the dirt beneath the toe of his boot creating a growing depression. “I see…”
“I have… That is… I’ve tried to… prepare her…” Grey struggled to find the right words but gave up with a sigh. “I’ve decided to speak with my brother about quietly seeking a pardon for you… with the Crown. I know it’s what you want and I’m afraid of what keeping the boy here longer might do. Everyone expects him to look like you except Lord and Lady Dunsany. It will pain them to see him go but I’m convinced it’s what’s best for everyone in the end.”
Jamie blinked while he let the words sink in. He’d be able to go home. To Scotland. With Willie.
“I… thank ye, sir.”
“John,” Grey said with a pained laugh. “If I do this you’ll no longer be under my supervision and you must promise to call me John then––if you don’t, I might change my mind.” But the threat was a hollow one.
“As ye please then… Lord John.”
Grey scoffed but smiled as he glanced at Jamie.
“It will be a while yet before anything goes through. I will tell Lord Dunsany the broad outlines of what’s going to happen to help him prepare his wife… I already hinted at it to her before supper.”
“Took it well, did she?”
“I have another idea I think I’ve settled on that will help to distract her when the time comes… I’m going to speak with Lord Dunsany about courting––and later marrying––Isobel.”
Jamie choked back what he thought at first was a laugh but actually sounded more like a strangled gasp.
“Wh––why?” he managed to ask.
“She wants to be married to please her parents but is nervous about it and leaving them. I… have family of my own that would like to see me wed and with my position in His Majesty’s army, there’s little need for my wife and I to live together––little opportunity if I get sent to the continent,” Grey rambled.
“But ye… Can ye… That is… would it truly be fair to the lass?” It was Jamie’s turn to have difficulty finding the right words.
“She needn’t accept me,” Grey insisted as though he were half hoping that would be the case. “There is one more thing I need you to promise me if I am to appeal on your behalf… and it isn’t that you call me by my Christian name…”
Grey looked to Jamie seeking the promise before offering the terms.
Jamie crossed his arms over his chest and waited for Grey to continue.
“I need you to promise me that you will keep me appraised of how the boy fares; that you will permit me to visit and see him when circumstances allow. I think it will go a way towards reassuring the Dunsanys.”
Jamie thought on it for a moment but the prospect of what might happen if a British officer were to stop at Lallybroch for an extended, friendly visit was too difficult to manage. There would be time to decide the particulars later––if and when he had his pardon from the Crown.
“Ye’d best go back inside,” Jamie suggested. “Ye can give yer report to Lady Dunsany that Willie’s on to learning a bit of Latin if ye think she’d believe that a mere groom kens it to teach his son.”
Grey let the remark pass without comment but pushed himself off the side of the barn where he’d been leaning and turned to face Jamie.
“Good night… MacKenzie.”
“Good night to ye, Lord John.”
Grey walked away and Jamie went inside and climbed the ladder.
Willie had tried to stay awake to question his father at the end of his informal meeting but the lad had fallen asleep sitting up against the wall, his chin resting against his chest and his hair loose and falling in a curtain to shade his face.
Jamie moved Willie to his cot. He wouldn’t tell Willie anything about being able to go to Scotland until he had that pardon in his hand but Jamie couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when he did tell him… or when he first looked down into the valley to see Lallybroch safely nestled there… or when he met Jenny, Ian and the bairns…
Jamie fell asleep quickly, his day dreams pulling him under to a Lallybroch where he carried Willie on his shoulders and Claire was there to meet him at the gate.

Tavvy - Never Grow Up
“Your little hands wrapped around my finger and it’s so quiet in the world tonight. Your little eyelids flutter cause you’re dreaming, so I tuck you in and turn on your favorite nightlight. To you, everything’s funny. You got nothing to regret. I’d give all I have honey if you could stay like that. Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up, just stay this little. I won’t let nobody hurt you”
Helen & Aline - Fearless
“I wonder if you know I’m tryin’ so hard not to get caught up now. But you’re just so cool, run your hands through your hair absentmindedly making me want you. And I don’t know how it gets better than this you take my hand and drag me head first fearless. And I don’t know why but with you I’d dance in a storm in my best dress”
Arthur - Innocent
“I guess you really did it this time. Left yourself in your warpath. Lost your balance on a tightrope. Lost your mind trying to get it back… It’s alright, just wait and see. Your string of lights is still bright to me. Oh, who you are is not where you’ve been. You’re still an innocent. Did some things you can’t speak of but at night you live it all again. You wouldn’t be shattered on the floor now if only you had seen what you know now then”
Cristina - White Horse
“Say you’re sorry that face of an angel comes out just when you need it to. As I paced back and forth all this time ‘cause I honestly believed in you… Stupid girl, I should have known, that I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairy tale. I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet”
Diana & Gwyn - Enchanted
“Your eyes whispered “have we met?” Across the room your silhouette starts to make its way to me. The playful conversation starts counter all your quick remarks, like passing notes in secrecy. And it was enchanting to meet you”
Malcolm & Annabel - This Love
“Clear blue water, high tide came and brought you in and I could go on and on, on and on, and I will. Skies grew darker, currents swept you out again and you were just gone and gone, gone and gone. In silent screams, in wildest dreams I never dreamed of this. This love is good, this love is bad, this love is alive back from the dead. These hands had to let it go free and this love came back to me”
Zara - Mean
“You, with your switching sides and your wildfire lies and your humiliation… With that same big loud opinion but nobody’s listening. Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things… All you are is mean and a liar and pathetic”
