party downton

Once again, people are taking BC quotes out of context 🙄 It's actually plain silly tbh (a misogynist, fat-shaming, racist? Where's the proof?) but since we're on the topic of dissecting every single word the man utters, I was wondering what are some of your favorite positive quotes of his? ... see how I took it from a - to a + 😉 because that's how it should be really.

lol. my god the recycling of the archival misquotes on this website *shrugs*

but YES; let’s look at some favourite Benedict Cumberbatch quotes! so what i did is I asked twitter. And I loved the responses:

BC being… what appears to be BC:

“What Time Does Sean Connery Arrive At Wimbledon ? Tennish…” (sorry. that fave is mine. dusky.)

“Oh shit, I’m at the wrong party”

“"Downton Abbey or some such shit. Not that Downton Abbey is shit" (lol)

“f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck”

 BC being philosophical:

“"It taught me that you come into this world as you leave it, on your own. It’s made me want to live a life slightly less ordinary.“

“Keep failing better.”

“Enjoy the journey of life and not just the endgame”

“Don’t underestimate the seductive power of a good vocabulary”

“You can’t please everyone, and you’d go mad trying.”

“… I think success is being content with yourself & be happy with what you’ve got rather than wanting what you don’t need.” (Flaunt)

“You can get through anything if you believe you can, and I believe you can.“

“I can feel infinitely alive curled up on a sofa reading a book”

“I mean, we can formulate and explain things in scientific terms but it doesn’t take any of the magic away; revealing the work, or the mechanism behind the beauty doesn’t destroy the beauty…”

“We’re not momentary specks in an indifferent universe. We’re momentary specks within a very caring, loving universe.”

“It’s absolutely fine to be different. Don’t feel that you have to apologize for it”

“"Nothing is impossible. The word itself says, ‘I’m possible’.“

"The further you get away from yourself, the more challenging it is. Not to be in your comfort zone is great fun.”

“Searching for happiness is a sure way to sadness, I think. You have to take each day as it comes.”

“A lot of idle time, wasted rather beautifully.”

 BC being… happy:

“I learned where my home is. I learned where my heart is… [Sophie]”

“I know where my home is, I know where my heart is, where my centre is, where my…now and forever more is. And she’s called Sophie Hunter.”

 And I love these ones from personal encounters with BC;

“Thank you”, said to me, to my face, while looking me in the eye and smiling…”

“I then choose “hiiii hi hi” said to my face…”

“Call me Lord Cumberbatch… and you don’t need to stand during an entire answer. I find that very sweet. Sit, my child” (lol again. Ed.)

And my favourite:

“"You ought to let go.“ - while trying to pry the Hamlet program out of my clutching fingers to sign it properly (over three rows of people)…( I’m tiny so I didn’t know it was him tugging until I heard him say that. So very English. He could have so easily just passed me by.)…”

And how can I not end with:

“Thank you very good much. See you at the loo.”

Q: Do you have a disguise that you use to stop yourself getting recognized?
A: I find that having a fringe works well–it’s the ultimate disguise. I wear my glasses too, not so much as a disguise but because I have bad eyesight. Wearing them does change the look of my face.

Q: Do you get more female attention now you’re on the show?
A: I don’t at all. I’m 37 now so I’m past it–the ladies aren’t interested in me anymore.

Q: What are the Downton wrap parties like?
A: They’re great. It’s an excuse for us to let our hair down. We work all day every day, so once it’s wrap-party time everyone’s on the dance floor moonwalking!

Q: What was it like having Richard E. Grant on set?
A: Unbelievable! “Withnail and I” is one of my favourite films ever so to see him walking on to the set was very exciting. He has such a presence about him that you knew instantly when he was on set. He’s hysterical too. I wish I could tell you some of the stories he’s told me, but they’re far too rude.

Q: What’s been your weirdest piece of fan mail?
A: I once said in an interview that I loved unicorns and then someone sent me a huge painting of me holding a tray with an apple on it, with a unicorn in the background. It’s very good actually but I don’t think it will fit anywhere in my house. For now it’s staying at my agent’s office.
