[Image: A moustache parakeet with a blue legband stands on a counter looking at the camera. She has a rose chest, light green bird pants, darker green wings and a teal face. She has two black lines visible on her face, one running between her eyes and one going from her beak to the side of her head giving the impression of a large moustache.]
Currently in for re-home is Teako the moustache parakeet.
Wow she was so beautiful. My camera didn’t do her justice, because the green fade to blue on her head and face was just so gorgeous.
Teako’s really skiddish but I spent some time with her after she was dropped off. She’s pretty timid and was not entirely pleased with her new situation. However she was quite willing to step up for me once she was out of her cage.
She would only step up and only outside the cage. Anything else and she would be screaming and nipping. Though, she was surprisingly gentle even so. She preferred to bop you hard with the front of her beak and if pushed she’d bite, but without any real pressure behind it.
Since we had to get her out of her travel cage and into her big cage right at the start (the person surrendering her was taking the travel carrier with them), I learned first hand how she defends herself and she gives so many warnings before she gets serious.
Though when I was able and had the time to sit with her and offer my company she was willing to step up without a fuss. I respected her when she indicated I pushed a boundary but we spent a good portion of the afternoon with her sitting on my arm leaning against my chest.
The others were skeptical of her behaviour. But I know with gentle handling and a quiet setting she will really thrive.
I hope Teako finds a new home and soon. She’s such an amazing little one.

Hates: Petting, large shadows, not getting any of your food, the thermostat, sudden movements.
Named after the one and only Nigel Thornberry, this little guy is spunky and unpredictable (in a good way). He’s a thinker, constantly studying his surroundings and learning new things. Although he generally stays silent most of the day, this little guy has some booming vocals when he uses them, and can even say a few phrases. He’s a very sweet bird with an interesting personality balance between calm and anxious.
