October 27, 2015 - Pin-tailed Parrotfinch, Pin-tailed Nonpareil, Long-tailed Munia, Nonpareil Parrotfinch, or Red-bellied Munia (Erythrura prasina)
Found in Southeast Asia, these colorful finches are usually seen in groups. A wide-ranging abundant species, in 2007 they were also discovered living on Mt. Mantalingahan in the Philippines. Their diet is mostly grains and seeds, as well as small invertebrates. Large flocks can impact food crops, such as rice, and are sometimes considered a crop pest. Nesting in or near bamboo forests, they build domed nests of dry leaves and fibers.
